iPhone Shipments Dominated The Premium Smartphone Market in Southeast Asia

The smartphone market continues to grow. The biggest contributor to this growth is usually mid-range and entry-level models, but according to the latest report from Counterpoint, the number of premium smartphone users in Southeast Asia is increasing significantly. The region’s shipment of premium smartphones (more than $400) increased 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2022.

Premium smartphone shipments grow 29% year-on-year in Q3 2022 in Southeast Asia markets

According to Counterpoint Research’s Southeast Asia Monthly Smartphone Channel Share Tracker, premium smartphone shipments (more than $400) in Southeast Asia increased 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2022. iPhone 14 series and the other flagship models have a large share in this rise. Unfortunately, the high sales of expensive phones could not prevent the decline in the market.

Samsung shipments fell 13% year-on-year, while Apple’s shipments rose 63% year-on-year in all major countries. 5G technology was another factor affecting sales in some regions. Demand for 5G is slow in some countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam, while it is much faster in Thailand and the Philippines, where the network is better. However, features such as the processor, RAM, internal storage, battery capacity and charging speed are much more important for users. Most people look at these features while shopping and choose the most suitable model for them.

Total smartphone shipments fell 10%

Total smartphone shipments fell 10% year-on-year in the third quarter. Economic problems are behind the decline; Southeast Asia is still facing macroeconomic headwinds, and some countries’ investments have slowed down, including FDİ (foreign direct investment) volumes. Unfortunately, the high sales expectation in September was also not met, but positive developments are expected in the last quarter due to Black Friday.

Commenting on the economy, Senior Analyst Glen Cardoza said, “Most Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines raised interest rates in Q3 2022 to ease the blow of rising prices on the common consumer. Inflation during the quarter was an average 5% in most SEA countries, which is not alarming but did take its toll on consumers.

“Prices for fuel, overall logistics and staple items went up, causing consumers to hold on to their wallets and defer big expenses like smartphones. The majority of such consumers are blue-collar workers or from economically weaker sections. While a country like Thailand is struggling to regain pre-COVID volumes due to depleted tourism levels, Vietnam has shown a 13% GDP growth in Q3. The effect of the same is reflected in the smartphone shipments in the last few months.”

Partnerships between technology companies continue to increase, resulting in better products and less time and money wasted. The last of these partnerships is between ZTE and autonomous driving computing processor developer Black Sesame Technologies. The two companies will work together on ZTE’s first autonomous driving chip and shape the future together.

Black Sesame Technologies partners with ZTE for self-driving cars

Self-driving and other modern features continue to spread in the auto industry. This situation attracts the attention of big tech companies. Companies like Apple and Huawei are entering the auto industry, challenging decades-old manufacturers, one of these brands is ZTE. While the company has been investing in self-driving technologies for a while, it will speed up the process thanks to its collaboration with Black Sesame Technologies.

Apple iPhone 15 May Feature a Curved Titanium Frames

A new rumor has just revealed some interesting details regarding the next gen Apple iPhone 15. While the iPhone 15 series launch is almost a year away, there have already been a number of reports regarding the series. Now, the latest leak talks about its design.

The news arrives from known tipster ShrimpApplePro who shared the information on Twitter. Looking at the online post, the Cupertino based giant plans on making minor design changes on its iPhone 15 series next year. The company will reportedly have a new border design, with the back edge corner being rounded. In other words, the Apple iPhones might just be moving away from its sharp edge design in exchange for rounded corners. This change could possibly make the device more easier to hold.

Apple

The Pro models of the iPhone has been criticized for being too unwieldy. So the brand could be planning on making such a change. We had also previously reported on a rumor that hinted at the next gen iPhone models to feature titanium material for its build, and this leak has also backed up the side frames being built with titanium. Interestingly enough, the tipster stated that this is still very early information and is subjective to change. Keep in mind that this still just an unconfirmed leak, so take this leak with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates.

Xiaomi 13 Key Specifications Emerge Online Ahead of Launch

Xiaomi 13 series is expected to debut next month in China. The lineup consisting of standard and Pro variants have been spotted in leaked renders. The smartphones will arrive as the successors to the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro. Recently, there were reports that Xiaomi might skip the number 13 and jump to the 14 series. However, the company executive has denied such information. Now in a new development, reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has leaked key specifications of the Xiaomi 13 on Weibo.

As per DCS, the Xiaomi 13 is expected to pack significant upgrades over its predecessor. The tipster says that it will come with a 6.2-inch AMOLED display bearing a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the upcoming offering will be powered by the recently announced flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor based on a 4nm process. The smartphone will feature a new 50MP Sony IMX8-series sensor. The Xiaomi 13 is also tipped to support 120W wired charging compared to the 67W found on its predecessor.

This is everything we know about the Xiaomi 13 at the moment. As per leaked renders, the device has a compact form factor with a boxy design. The display has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout and slim bezels. The back panel sports a square camera module housing three sensors and an LED flash.

Samsung Says That Android 14 Update Will Roll Out Faster Than Android 13

Samsung is apparently planning on keeping its momentum of quick updates into next year as well. The company has claimed that it will be offering the new Android 14 update, even faster that the Android 13 roll out this year.

For those unaware, the Google Pixel series of smartphones are still the first handset models to receive the Search Engine giant’s latest Android OS upgrade. There is then a rush in the smartphone market as company’s rush to get the update out on their respective offerings, which also usually run with a custom skin on top of Android. Samsung has had a very quick response time with its Android 13 OS based One UI 5.0 update bringing the latest Unicode 15 emoji to Galaxy users before it even arrived on Pixel phones.

Samsung

The South Korean tech giant has also been showing off its fast Android 13 update release, with most of its higher end phones and even the Galaxy Tab S8 tablet series have also receiving the update. Now, the company stated in a new press release that it had “drastically reduced the time interval” between the release of the Android 13 and the One UI 5.0 roll out. With Android 13, the company has shown major improvements in its process of rolling out software upgrades.

So apart from Google phones, we can expect Samsung phones to be one of the first to receive new Android operating system builds since typically it takes a couple of months before an update hits phones that are not Pixel models. Back in the early days of smartphones, Samsung users had to wait for quite a few months before being update to the latest version of Android, but this no longer appears to be the case.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro to launch with exclusive features to help brand sell more Pro series model

Despite Apple launching its latest iPhone 14 series just two months ago, there have already been rumors and reports regarding the next gen iPhone 15 lineup. Now, a new report has revealed that the company is putting more efforts into attracting its customers to choose its Pro series models.

Known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated back in September that the Cupertino based giant is looking to push more buyers towards its higher end smartphone models after seeing the strong sales of the iPhone 14 Pro series. For this, it is apparently planning on bringing many exclusive Pro only features on the next gen iPhone 15 models. As of right now, there have been rumors and reports regarding five of these exclusive features, so let’s have a look.

Apple

One of the first exclusive new features will likely be the latest A17 Bionic chipset. The iPhone 15 Pro is expected to be equipped with an A17 chip that will be based on TSMC’s 3nm process. Similar to the iPhone 14 series, only the Pro models will feature a new chipset while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature the iPhone 14 Pro model’s A16 Bionic chipset. The 2023 iPhones will also house a USB Type C port as well, which would help raise data transfer speeds as well as charging speeds on the new iPhones.

Apart from this, the iPhone 15 Pro models will also be equipped with an increased 8GB of RAM, which will be higher than the 6GB RAM that the company currently offers. Another notable exclusive Pro feature is the solid state buttons that we had recently reported on. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are rumored to feature two additional Taptic Engines that provide haptic feedback to make it feel like you’re pressing the buttons, despite no buttons being actually moved. Lastly, it is also believed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a periscopic telephoto lens that might offer up to 10x optical zoom.

Huawei’s Last Foldable With Kirin Chip & Leica Cameras Is Likely Discontinued

Huawei has delisted the Mate X2 from its online store in China, reports ITHome. The company has removed both the original 5G model as well as the 4G variant.

The smartphone is likely discontinued. The firm is yet to make an official statement.

HUAWEI Mate X2

The Huawei Mate X2 is the company’s first-generation inward-folding foldable smartphone. It was announced in February 2021.

Most importantly, it is the company’s last 5G foldable smartphone. It is also the last Huawei foldable with a Kirin chipset and Leica cameras.

Hence, it is sad to witness the discontinuation of this phone. At present, it is not known whether the company will bring it back under its refurbishment program, as it does with other handsets.

The Huawei Mate X2 was the thinnest foldable smartphone when it was released. This title now belongs to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. It was also the most feature-rich, especially in terms of cameras. But the Vivo X Fold took over this mantle when it got released, followed by Vivo X Fold+.

The Mate X2 featured an 8-inch 90Hz horizontal inward folding foldable display and a 6.45-inch 90Hz cover screen. It was powered by HiSilcion Kirin 9000 chipset. The original model even had support for 5G.

Either way, both 4G and 5G variants came with Leica-powered cameras. The rear quad-camera setup comprised a 50MP primary snapper with OIS, a 16MP ultra-wide unit with autofocus, a 12MP 3x telephoto shooter with OIS, and an 8MP 10x periscope camera with OIS. The cover display housed a 16MP front-facing camera.

The device was backed by a respectable 4,500mAh battery with support for 55W wired fast charging.

New Google Pixel 7, Pixel 6 Bug Causes Auto Rotate, Tap To Wake, and More Features To Stop Working

The Google Pixel series of smartphones appear to have been cursed with never ending bugs in the last several months. With the launch of the Pixel 7 series, it appeared that the mistakes on the Pixel 6 were improved upon. But it seems that there are still some minor bugs that have caused inconveniences for both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 lineup users.

The news regarding the latest bugs comes from Pixel users who shared their grievances on Reddit. A Redditor stated that it “Seems to be when I’m using YouTube mostly but auto rotate doesn’t kick in. Have to manually activate it myself which is frustrating.” Apart from this, other users have also found that by sliding up from the bottom on YouTube would cause the image to automatically flips into landscape. Other Redditor users also joined in with similar complaints.

Google

This bug appears to be affection both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series of smartphones. Similarly, there has been other new issues on these smartphones as well. One Reddit users stated that his Pixel 6’s modem doesn’t start working after he goes through an area without cellular service. He has to manually switch the airplane mode on and off after going into an area with no network, like an underground parking. There have been people also complaining of the Tap to Wake feature not working consistently or sometimes never working at all on the new Pixel models.

All in all, it appears that the major issues have been fixed while new minor bugs have been surfacing on the Pixel branded phones. Although, some of these issues might be related more towards the Android OS than the Google phones itself. Other Android phone users had claimed that the auto rotate bug was a more general issue as well. So stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Moreover, if you are a camper, RV rider, or adventure enthusiast who likes to spend time outdoors and off-grid, then the F2400 can be a great device to power your appliances on the go.  With FOSSiBOT F2400 you can easily power up to 99% of your home appliances, gadgets, and tools, including microwaves, projectors, electric grills, electric kettles, mini coolers, space heaters, drones, hair dryers, lawn mowers, etc.

HIGH-CAPACITY BATTERY:

FOSSiBOT F2400 solar generator is one of the most powerful and high-capacity generators available in its price segment. It features a capacity of 2048Wh which can easily power your house for almost half a day. Your lights, LEDs, projector, laptop, coffee machine, router, smartphones, etc can be easily kept running with this power station.

If you are planning a camping trip then this is one of the best power solutions as it can easily power your RV for almost a day (an average RV uses 2.0kWh power per day). The device can suffice the needs of an average camping trip of say 8 people and power all necessary and life-saving gadgets during your trip.

SUPER FAST CHARGING:

It’s all good to have a powerful and high-capacity generator. But the biggest drawback of a power generator is the time taken to recharge it. On average it takes anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to recharge a 2048Wh battery. However, with the advanced bi-directional technology, you can recharge the FOSSiBOT F2400 faster than an average generator.

The device comes with 3 charging options viz. Solar panels, AC outlet, and Car outlet. F2400 can be fully recharged within 2 hours by a 1100W AC charge. By AC and 500W max solar panels charge simultaneously, it only takes 1.5 hours to charge from 0%-100% which is over twice faster compared to similar products on the market. With a 2400W total AC output, the Fossibot F2400 can power 99% of your devices. Moreover, when the total load exceeds 2400W power, the F2400 can continue to power all the loads by decreasing the voltage until the peak power reaches 4600W and the voltage below 78V.

DESIGN:

We can find many power stations in the market. But not all of them are designed to be portable. Before selecting a generator it is important to focus on its design and portability as you have to carry and use the device in the harsh and unpredictable outdoors.

Keeping in mind the usage scenarios and extreme outdoor conditions, the designers of Fossibot F2400 have added some special features to the device to make it optimum for outdoor usage.  The generator comes with fan covers which keeps the dust, dirt, and insects and flies away from the fan blades thereby decreasing the chances of short circuit and blockages. Fossibot designed rubber plug covers for the DC and USB ports making them water-resistant and dust-proof. Also, on the top of the machine, there is a dedicated space for collecting the charging cables which helps to collect and arrange all your cables in one place.

PRICE, AVAILABILITY, and DISCOUNTS:

FOSSiBOT F2400 solar generator is now available for sale at the official FOSSiBOT website, Amazon Japan and Rakuten Japan. The power station is launched for a retail price of $1699. This is the same processor that powers a number of mid-range smartphones, including the Oppo A58, POCO M4 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, and others.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G MySmartPrice

In the single-core round of the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, the upcoming entry-level A-series smartphone scored 522 points. In the multi-core round, the smartphone received 1710 points. Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro Gets WeChat App

The Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro is the company’s latest smartwatch. It was unveiled in August at the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 launch event. Even after months, the wearable still remains exclusive to China.

Earlier today, the brand announced that it has released WeChat app for this smartwatch. Let’s check out the features offered by this application.

Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro

WeChat is the most-used instant messaging application in China. It is what people use to stay communicated over the internet.

This application is now available on the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro. Thus, the company’s new smartwatch becomes one of the few RTOS-powered wearables to have support for WeChat.

Users can pretty much use all the basic functionalities of WeChat on their wrists. The app allows them to reply to messages in multiple formats. They can not only use text but also voice and emojis. Also, they can view the images they receive in chats.

Users will likely have to install the WeChat application through the companion app on their smartwatch.

The Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro is the most premium wearable sold by the company right now. It is priced at ¥1,499 in China. At launch, the watch already had support for a few third-party apps like Baidu Map, NetEase Cloud Music, QQ Music, and more.

More third-party apps for the RTOS platform could arrive. Because almost all Chinese OEMs use RTOS for their affordable as well as premium smartwatches. Unfortunately, we cannot say whether this trend will catch on outside mainland China.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will also feature an overclocked GPU

A recent Geekbench listing for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra revealed that the device will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, featuring an overclocked CPU. Known leaker Ice Universe claimed that these are “exclusive high frequency version” of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Samsung

For context, the CPU frequencies of the Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips are 3.36GHz for the prime core, 2.80GHz for the performance cores, and 2.02GHz for the efficiency cores. In contrast, the official frequency for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 prime core announced by Qualcomm is 3.1872GHz.

Now, the leaker has come back with more news regarding the Samsung-exclusive chipset, saying that not only the CPU on the SoC will be overclocked, but the same will be the case for the GPU. According to Ice, the Adreno 740 GPU on the Galaxy S23 devices will be clocked at 719 MHz compared to the 680 MHz unit on the regular variant. It is currently unknown if there will be a change in the naming scheme for these higher frequency chips or if they will simply be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Talking about generational improvements, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s CPU is 35% faster than its 8 Gen 1 counterpart, and the GPU is 25% faster. Additionally, the GPU also has hardware-backed ray tracing capabilities. This new chip version ought to be significantly quicker given the overclock to both. However, it is difficult to determine how much faster it will be in real-world scenarios.
