Government of India Drafts A New Law To Avoid Fake Reviews on E-Commerce Platforms

To make online engagement and e-commerce more real and less deceptive for customers, the Government of India initiated a campaign against bogus reviews and unverified ratings. The government has set up a system for businesses like Google, Facebook and Meta Platform, Amazon.com, travel websites, and food delivery applications that rely on customer evaluations to verify goods and services. Sales and interest from prospective customers are increased by favourable ratings.

But often, the brand displays fake reviews that are consistently positive about the goods and services, and this undoubtedly influences the user’s purchasing choice. Consumers and other industry professionals have criticised some businesses for suppressing bad reviews or accepting fake ratings, which makes the due diligence process for buyers challenging.

Reviews

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, the Department of Consumer Affairs established a committee in June to create a framework for identifying fraudulent and misleading reviews in e-commerce.
The founder of LocalCircles, a community platform and pollster that made the initial submission to the Department of Consumer Affairs and participated in the committee drafting the guidelines, Sachin Taparia, stated that the new rules for online reviews are “designed to drive increased transparency for both consumers and brands and promote information accuracy.”

According to Taparia, “the new regulations will force platforms like Google and Facebook to verify the genuine person behind the review by established 6-8 procedures, meaning fraudulent accounts created only for review authoring will eventually disappear or won’t be allowed to review. He further notes that if the standards are made mandatory, businesses may be held liable for unfair business practices, the suppression of bad reviews, or the facilitation of the planting of false reviews.

“This should not be bulldozed, please. We shall first observe that these rules are being followed voluntarily. And should the threat persist, we may make this a requirement “Reporters in New Delhi were warned by Rohit Kumar Singh, secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs. However, there are no proper information about the draft framework yet. We will update you if the law gets imposed officially.

Moto X40 With Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Beats Out Dimensity 9200 in Performance

Qualcomm has finally announced its most powerful mobile chipset yet, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2. The chipset is expected to break many old benchmarks and set a new achievement for a mobile processor. Many brands after the official release, like OnePlus, had confirmed that they will be soon launching their smartphones with the newly announced chipset. Moto is one of them, the Moto X40 will soon land in the official market as one of the first flagships to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chipset.

Anyway, the  Lenovo Group General Manager for Mobile Division, Chen Jin, has shared the AnTuTu benchmark scores of the upcoming Moto X40 smartphone. The scores do give us an idea of the performance we can expect from both the device and the chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will compete with the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC. When we compared the AnTuTu benchmark scores of both chipsets, the former manages to score 1312901 in the test and the latter manages to score 1266101.

Moto X40

The test was run on the most latest edition of AnTuTu Benchmark, V.9.5.2. The results clearly show that the Snapdragon performs slightly better than the MediaTek. However, scores are not the only factor that can provide us with a comprehensive picture of the chipset’s performance. Because software optimization is important, various scores are visible on different devices, even while using the same chipset.

In any case, there aren’t any huge differences in the scores of the two chipsets. We should really wait for a thorough review of the devices once they hit the market. We hope that both will perform admirably and will not disappoint us. This time, the battle between MediaTek and Snapdragon will be a sight to behold. Let us see which chipset can dethrone the other.

You Must Definitely Try the Sweet Google FIFA Mini-game

The FIFA World Cup 2022 has officially begun in Qatar. The game has been riddled with controversies, owing mostly to the Qatar Government’s handling of the event. Anyway, Google, for example, generally releases a mini-doodle or other in-homepage games whenever an international gaming tournament goes live. This time, the company is allowing hooligans to score goals against one another in multiplayer battles with a sweet new mini-game.

Activating and playing this mini-game is as easy as searching for something on Google. The feature has gone live for both the Android and iOS platforms. The VP of Engineering at Google has officially confirmed this on his Twitter handle. In order to play and activate the mini-game, one must search for “World Cup” and then hit the soccer ball at the bottom. So, this is how you can activate the mini-game using Google.

FIFA

This is an excellent method to increase fan interaction ahead of soccer’s biggest event, and it appears that millions of people have already tried out the game. There are mini-games for every World Cup match, allowing fans from either team to shoot golden goals and increase their team’s count into the millions digitally. Talking about the game, it is technically a single-player game having an MMO element. However, the brand has earlier created some actual multiplayer games like the Petanque, which has 1v1 player, and a 4v4 Halloween based multiplayer.

FIFA, the world soccer governing body, was in damage control mode earlier this month, requesting participating nations to desist from criticising the host nation for their dismal human rights record, and to “now focus on the football.” Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has also stated that selecting Qatar to host the World Cup was a mistake.

Apart from the design, the report does not reveal the hardware specifications of the Redmi Buds 4 Lite. We can expect the TWS earphones to come with gesture controls, fast pairing, voice assistant support, environmental noise cancellation, and more.

As of now, the Redmi Buds 4 Lite launch timeline remains a mystery. Its predecessor was announced in July this year. The device features an in-ear design with a 6mm driver unit. It offers ENC and low-latency mode. The TWS earphones are capable of delivering 5 hours of usage and 18 hours of battery backup with the storage case.

iPhone Shipments Dominated The Premium Smartphone Market in Southeast Asia

The smartphone market continues to grow. The biggest contributor to this growth is usually mid-range and entry-level models, but according to the latest report from Counterpoint, the number of premium smartphone users in Southeast Asia is increasing significantly. The region’s shipment of premium smartphones (more than $400) increased 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2022.

Premium smartphone shipments grow 29% year-on-year in Q3 2022 in Southeast Asia markets

According to Counterpoint Research’s Southeast Asia Monthly Smartphone Channel Share Tracker, premium smartphone shipments (more than $400) in Southeast Asia increased 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2022. iPhone 14 series and the other flagship models have a large share in this rise. Unfortunately, the high sales of expensive phones could not prevent the decline in the market.

Samsung shipments fell 13% year-on-year, while Apple’s shipments rose 63% year-on-year in all major countries. 5G technology was another factor affecting sales in some regions. Demand for 5G is slow in some countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam, while it is much faster in Thailand and the Philippines, where the network is better. However, features such as the processor, RAM, internal storage, battery capacity and charging speed are much more important for users. Most people look at these features while shopping and choose the most suitable model for them.

Total smartphone shipments fell 10%

Total smartphone shipments fell 10% year-on-year in the third quarter. Economic problems are behind the decline; Southeast Asia is still facing macroeconomic headwinds, and some countries’ investments have slowed down, including FDİ (foreign direct investment) volumes. Unfortunately, the high sales expectation in September was also not met, but positive developments are expected in the last quarter due to Black Friday.

Commenting on the economy, Senior Analyst Glen Cardoza said, “Most Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines raised interest rates in Q3 2022 to ease the blow of rising prices on the common consumer. Inflation during the quarter was an average 5% in most SEA countries, which is not alarming but did take its toll on consumers.

“Prices for fuel, overall logistics and staple items went up, causing consumers to hold on to their wallets and defer big expenses like smartphones. The majority of such consumers are blue-collar workers or from economically weaker sections. While a country like Thailand is struggling to regain pre-COVID volumes due to depleted tourism levels, Vietnam has shown a 13% GDP growth in Q3. The effect of the same is reflected in the smartphone shipments in the last few months.”
