HMD Global partners with Shikhar Dhawan Foundation to promote e-learning among underserved students

Nokia’s parent company, HMD Global, has partnered with Shikhar Dhawan Foundation to distribute smart devices among underprivileged students of Delhi NCR for the promotion and support of e-learning.

The first drive of device distribution on 19^th September 2022, was held at NeeV Learning Centre, Village Nangli Umarpur, Gurugram, in the presence of Shikhar Dhawan (Cricketer and Founder, Shikhar Dhawan Foundation) and Sanmeet Singh Kochhar (Vice President- INDIA and MENA, HMD Global), as well as key leaders of both the organizations. Nokia mobile phones and tablets worth 35 Lakhs were distributed in the first drive of this initiative, reads the press release.

This CSR initiative is a part of HMD Global & Shikhar Dhawan Foundation’s collective efforts to promote e-learning among underprivileged students in India who cannot afford such devices.

“Without access to proper smartphone mobiles devices & internet, school-going underprivileged students are the ones who are suffering the most,” said Shikhar Dhawan. “With this problem in mind, our team has been working towards the same to address the issue, and I congratulate my team for taking this initiative up, which is very close to my heart,” Dhawan added.

iQOO is reportedly gearing up to launch the new iQOO Neo 7 in China in October. The handset will likely debut in the country on 20th-21st October. But ahead of an official announcement, the Neo 7 has been spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking site with a Dimensity 9000+ SoC and up to 12GB of RAM. Here are the details.

An iQOO smartphone with model number V2231A has been listed on the Geekbench database (via Nashville chatter). Previous reports suggest this model is the upcoming iQOO Neo 7. It is listed to feature an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC, as evidenced by the motherboard, k6983v1_64, and the higher clock speed of 3.20GHz on the primary Cortex-X2 core.

The handset also packs 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 12. As per the Geekbench listing, the iQOO Neo 7 has received a single-core performance score of 1,231 points and a multi-core performance score of 4,251 points. The listing does not reveal many other details about the smartphone.

Reports suggest the Pro variant of the handset will come with a 2K E6 AMOLED flat display offering a 144Hz refresh rate. It may pack up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Further, the device is expected to feature a 5,000mAh battery and support 120W fast charging.

While the base variant is said to have a 6.78-inch 1080p AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will likely have only 67W fast charging. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Neo 7 could come with a triple camera unit on the back consisting of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766V image sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel portrait telephoto lens.

Govee has announced a new version of its Envisual TV Backlight T1. The new Envisual TV Backlight T2 features several improvements from the previous iteration. It has two sizes and a dual-camera setup for a more impressive backlight output.

The Envisual TV Backlight T2’s light strip has a bead density of 60 LEDs per meter for an enhanced lighting experience. The dual cameras help to provide improved accuracy and the gadget supports voice commands via Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. The T2 features the Envisual technology, enabling real-time colors to match the colors across the TV screen. It offers up to 40% color-matching accuracy over the T1 and doubles the number of light beads. The improved RGBIC lighting (up to 690,000 bits per second) implies that more natural light and vivid colors are displayed.

The Govee Envisual Backlight T2 has four light settings: Energetic, Rythm, Spectrum, and Rolling. The settings can be customized via the Govee app and the T2 can be synchronized with up to five other Govee light products. There are two sizes of the product – the smaller model for 54-65-inch TVs and the larger model for 75-95-inch TVs. They have about 3 meters and 5 meters of lighting respectively. The camera arm uses a counterweight mechanism to sit atop the TV.

As for the prices, the smaller Envisual TV Backlight T2 is priced at $139.99 while the bigger model will cost $159.99. Both models are available from Amazon but the bigger model is currently out of stock.

Toshiba is upping the stakes with its latest smart TV offering, the M550K. The Toshiba TV M550K has been announced and it comes with several improvements over its predecessor the M550 series. The new TV has a better LED 4K display with greater clarity and accuracy in the color output.

The M550K has in-built REGZA Audio Power Pro speakers and Dolby Atmos. The M550K’s audio system upscales the bass output and delivers immersive audio. The TV offers ultra-high-definition (UHD) images and provides a flawless viewing experience. The TV has a 4K Brilliance Restoration engine for UHD brightness. It also features an in-house Wide Color Gamut technology providing depth and sharpness of the images.

The release of the Toshiba TV M550K comes on the heels of a very strong sales performance of the Toshiba M550 series of Fire TVs. A 196% jump in sales year on year (YoY) was recorded recently for the M550 series.

Toshiba is yet to release the pricing details for the M550K. The release date and other availability details are also pending at this time. There are also several details of the M550K that are still lacking. The company has not specified the backlight type featured in the TV. However, Toshiba says the M550K’s 4K display significantly outshines any conventional LED panels in the market.

Samsung’s new licensing alliances will give birth to Tizen-powered non-Samsung smart TVs

Samsung is expanding the Tizen OS ecosystem. It has announced licensing partnerships with original development manufacturing (ODM) companies to deploy the Tizen OS in non-Samsung smart TVs. The ODM brands include HKC, Atmaca, and Tempo with some of these brands already out in Australia. The Tizen-enabled TVs include Bauhn, Linsar, Sonny, and Vispera, with availability in Europe slated before the end of 2022.

The Tizen OS enables a premium smart TV experience and is an open-source OS. Samsung’s partnership with Linux in 2012 heralded the birth of Tizen. Since then, Tizen has seen an exponential expansion with over 200 million people globally using Tizen-enabled Samsung smart TVs.

The Samsung Tizen TV Platform Licensing program was announced during the 2021 Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). The license allows other brands to use the Tizen OS with access to industry-leading smart features, content discoverability tools, a modern interface, and lots of apps.

Some features available with Tizen OS are Samsung TV Plus, Universal Guide, and Bixby voice assistant. Users can tell Bixby to search, watch, or perform several tasks. The global reach of the Tizen OS is expected to blossom with the opening of access to non-Samsung TV brands. Samsung says it will continue to expand the Tizen licensing program and introduce more Tizen-enabled products and brands. Apart from Australia, some other countries where non-Samsung Tizen TVs will be available include Germany, Italy, Turkey, the UK, and New Zealand.

Razer has released its Soul Eater Speed Edition and Soul Eater X headsets in China. The two headsets are PlayStation-licensed and feature the Razer HyperSpeed Wireless technology for better audiovisual synchronization. The headsets also boast a 50mm driver unit.

The Soul Eater Speed Edition headset features the Razer TriForce 50mm drivers and is equipped with the Razer Hyperclear Smart Cardioid Microphone for environmental noise management. Global PC shipments fall 15 percent YoY in Q3, 2022, Apple grows 40.2 percent: IDC

Global PC shipments in the third quarter of the year recorded a 15 percent decline year-on-year. Q3, 2022 is the period between July to September. PC OEM’s shipped 74.3 million units in this year’s Q3 compared to 87.3 million units in the same quarter last year. As per the IDC report, shipments in Q3 increased compared to Q2, 2022.

As per IDC, the decrease in shipments is due to a reduction in demand and uneven supply. However, the shipment volumes are said to be well above the pre-pandemic levels when they were largely driven by commercial refreshes due to the end of support for Windows 7.

As for the OEM’s Lenovo led the Q3, 2022 PC market with 16.8 million shipments and a 22.7 percent market share. HP is second on the list with a 17.1 percent share and 12.7 million shipments. Dell bagged the third spot with 11.9 million units sold and 16.1 percent market share. Apple is fourth on the list with 10 million shipments and a 13.5 percent market share. The company posted a jump in sales compared to Q2, 2022 which were 4.8 million. ASUS completed the top five list with 5.5 million shipments and a 7.5 percent market share. Acer which was in the fourth spot in the last quarter is nowhere to be seen.

Barring Apple, all four OEMs recorded negative growth in terms of shipments on a year-on-year basis. Lenovo declined 16.1 percent whereas HP’s shipments declined 27.8 percent. Dell and ASUS recorded a 21.2 and 7.8 percent decline respectively. On the other hand, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is the only company with positive growth YoY at 40.2 percent.

As for the Infinix 43Y1 smart TV, it will come with thin bezels surrounding the display. The television is confirmed to feature a 43-inch screen bearing an FHD resolution and 300 nits brightness. It will ship with pre-installed entertainment apps. The rest of the specifications are expected to be the same as the 32Y1 TV including 20W speakers with Dolby Atmos, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, and Android OS.

The Galaxy S23 series leaks have started pouring in. We have been hearing more about Samsung’s next-gen flagship smartphones for the last few days.

A new leak has now emerged regarding the vanilla model. It reveals the display and battery specs of the handset.

As the information comes from a reliable source, it could be mostly true.

Digital Chat Station has shared a few details about the Samsung Galaxy S23 on Weibo. The tipster says that the phone will be backed by a 3,900mAh battery.

For comparison, the Galaxy S22 has a smaller 3,7000mAh battery. Whereas, the Galaxy S21 houses a larger 4,000mAh battery.

As far as charging speed is concerned, there may not be an upgrade. The leaker merely hints that it will fall behind the Chinese small-screen flagship smartphones.

Lastly, he discloses that the device will sport a 6.1-inch flat flexible OLED display. The screen will offer an FHD+ resolution. He neither says anything about refresh rate nor LTPO technology.

Interestingly, at the end of his Weibo post, the tipster mentions that despite shortcomings, the Galaxy S23 will offer good value. Looks like the phone might offer better endurance than the Galaxy S22 with a slightly larger battery and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Redmi Writing Pad has launched in India today. As the name suggests, the device is a portable digital notepad for taking notes, making doodles, and simply scribbling without having to use paper and pen. The Redmi Writing Pad comes with an LCD display measuring 8.5-inches. Xiaomi says that the screen does not emit light and prevents eye fatigue after extended use.

The portable digital notepad is compact and lightweight measuring just 90 grams. There is a button on the bottom bezel of the device that can be used to clear the screen and start creating something new immediately. The device also features a lock switch to freeze the content from being deleted from the screen. The Redmi Writing pad comes with a stylus that offers an easy grip. A couple of months ago, One-Netbook updated its OneXPlayer mini Pro handheld console with 12th-Gen Intel processors. Now, the company has launched a new limited edition Gundam co-branded console called the OneXPlayer mini Pro Gundam Edition.

It features a 7-inch, 1,920 x 1,200-pixel display with full coverage of the sRGB color gamut. Powering the console is an AMD Ryzen 7 6800U chipset paired with 16 or 32GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAM and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD. The console itself comes with the RX-78-2 Gundam initials etched on the left side. It also features a paint job that borrows from the color scheme of Gundam, with blue and red buttons and triggers, a white body, and a hint of orange on the speaker grilles.

Weibo tipster @大白哥 (via ITHome) has shared information regarding the launch date of the upcoming device. According to the report, the iQOO Neo 7 will likely launch in China on 20th-21st October. Some specs of the upcoming device have already leaked.

The handset’s chipset and design have been officially revealed. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. It is said to offer an average frame rate of 115.07 fps, 89.71 fps, and 56.33 fps for MOBA, regular mobile, and RPG game titles, respectively.

As per the official renders and leaked live images, the HonorX40 GT’s design will be based on Honor X40. This means It will feature the iconic circular camera ring, however, the color scheme will be different. It will arrive in a black carbon-like color option with a green accent.

The front of the smartphone will be occupied by a centered punch-hole display. Digital Chat Station says that the screen will be LCD and not OLED like on the vanilla model.

The display may have at least a 120Hz refresh rate. Finally, as per 3C, the phone will support 66W fast wired charging.

Redmi K60 series fast charging speeds revealed, to feature 30W wireless charging

It seems that Redmi is finally done with the Redmi K50 series after the launch of the Redmi K50 Ultra last in August. The company has reportedly started working on the next generation of flagships called the Redmi K60 series.

Some specifications and details regarding the series have already surfaced online. And now, a new report from popular tipster DCS (via ITHome) has revealed the fast-charging capabilities of a device in the series. According to DCS, the phone will have two charging variants – 67W wired + 30W wireless, and an upgraded version of 120W wired + 30W wireless. It is not the first time that a company will launch a smartphone in two different fast-charging variants. Although it is the first time that a Redmi smartphone will offer support for fast charging, We can expect the 67W variant to have a larger battery compared to the 120W variant.

Previous leaks have mentioned that the series will feature phones with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets. The highest-end offering in the lineup will debut with a 2K display panel. It is also rumored to have a 50MP main camera sensor that is a modified version of the Sony IMX766 sensor. The series could also include an under-display fingerprint sensor as well as some impressive fast-charging technology.

Lastly, a recent report has hinted that Redmi might attempt to mimic the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island on the upcoming Redmi K60 series.

Hardkernel has just launched the new ODROID-Go Ultra, after previewing the gaming handheld device two months ago. The ODROID-Go Ultra brings technology from the previous ODROID models, so let’s have a look.

The design of the new gaming handheld is based on the ODROID-Go Super meanwhile its internals is based on the ODROID-N2 Plus. In other words, its the culmination of two other models. The ODROID-Go Ultra has been released in the market with the same color that Hardkernel had teased earlier this year. So, the ODROID-Go Ultra is available in a ‘Clear White’ and ‘Dim Gray’ color options. Looking at the images, the latter has an opaque and matte finish, while the Clear White is translucent.

Both variants weigh 299 grams with 16GB of eMMC flash storage that included to boot the OS and a microSD card slot for storing games. Under the hood, the gaming handheld features the Amlogic S922X that is paired with 2 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery pack. The front packs a 5 inch display, which has a 854 x 480 pixel resolution. The company also bundles the handheld gaming product with a USB Type-A to USB Type-A and Type-C Y-charging cable as well.

The latter is reportedly offered because of the charging issues when the battery is completely depleted. When in this state, the ODROID-Go Ultra recharges slower. apart from this, the new Hardkernel gaming device is rated to offer up to 6 hours of continuous gameplay. Furthermore, it runs on the modified version of EmulationStation, which is built upon the Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS and Linux kernel 4.9.277. A few months ago, the Red Magic brand from ZTE’s Nubia announced its first gaming monitor, dubbed Red Magic 4K Gaming Monitor, along with some other accessories and the flagship Red Magic 7S and 7S Pro smartphones.

Now, the company has officially started taking pre-orders for the Red Magic 4K Gaming Monitor. The monitor is priced at 4,999 yuan for the first sale, which is about $703 instead of its regular price of 5,499 yuan (~$773)

There’s also a Wireless Projection version of the monitor, which is priced at 6,499 yuan (~$914) for those who pre-order. The device will officially go on sale in the Chinese market on 17th October at 10:00 AM local time.

The Red Magic 4K Gaming Monitor comes with a 27-inch Mini-LED AUO 7.0 second-generation panel with 2,304 lamp beads and 1152 independent partitions along with 99% DC-P3 color gamut, 99% Adobe RGB color gamut, and color accuracy Delta E less than 1.

It has 1ms response time and supports AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync. The 4K Wireless Projection version is also claimed to be the first self-contained millimeter-wave wireless projection display, supporting lossless image quality transmission and low latency.

As for the interfaced, the monitor comes with an HDMI 2.1 along with a USB Type-C port which also supports a 90W reverse power supply. The monitor stand comes with support for height adjustment as well as rotation adjustment.
