Since its release, it has brought more than 1.5 billion US Dollars for the company.

Google may be working on the new Pixel Tablet Pro: Report

Google has already announced that it is working on a new Pixel Tablet model that will be launching sometime next year. But it appears that this tablet won’t be the sole model, and a higher end Pro variant is also in the works as well.

Google Pixel Tablet

The news arrives from 9To5Google, who spotted evidence of the tablet when searching through the latest Android 13 code. In the code, there was references to a “tangorpro,” which is believed to be the Pixel Tablet Pro. For those unaware, the Pixel Tablet has the codename “tangor,” so this basically means that a higher end variant is also in the works right now.

Unfortunately, there is currently no finer details available regarding the Pixel Tablet Pro at the moment. Although, it does appear that Pro variant will feature a different rear camera sensor compared to the based Pixel Tablet model. Based on what we know so far, the Pixel Tablet is confirmed to be arriving soon and will run on the same proprietary Tensor series chipsets that also power its Google Pixel 6 series of smartphones.

Furthermore, the Pixel Tablet is also believed to feature stylus support as well, however, its unclear if its included with the tablet itself. Other Android codes have also hinted at this product being an affordable tablet with decent specifications. If this is true, then the Search Engine giant would likely include more upgrades in the Pixel Tablet Pro over the vanilla tablet model.

Google Chromecast HD to come with Google TV 12, 1.5GB RAM and CPU downgrade

There have been rumors of a new, cheaper version of Chromecast being in the works, which will soon launch in the market. Now, a known developer on Twitter claims to have obtained a full software build for Google’s new Chromecast, which reveals several details about the device. So let’s check them out.

Representative image

According to developer Kuba Wojciechowski‘s findings, the device will likely be called Chromecast HD. The device will reportedly come with an Amlogic S805X2 chipset. The chip is still a significant downgrade from the 4K variant but does enable AV1 decoding, something the current Chromecast does not.

The video output is limited to 1080p and the chip also lacks the raw processing power compared to the S905X3. It also has 1.5GB RAM, which is 25% less RAM compared to the 4K model. It does come with software based on Android 12, making it the first Google TV 12 streamer.

Google will also bake in support for virtual A/B seamless updates with compression. This feature will minimize the time that a device is offline and unusable while updating and will take up almost no extra space from the storage for updates.

Apple iPhone 14 series battery size revealed

As usual, Apple did not announce the battery capacities of the iPhone 14 series at its launch event last week. Even the official listings of the iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max on Apple.com do not mention the exact size of their batteries. However, it only states that the iPhone 14 series offers an “all-day battery life.” A new report by Macrumors has revealed the battery size of all four iPhone 14 models.

The publication has obtained the battery details of the iPhone 14 models from a Chinese regulatory database. Here is the battery capacity of each iPhone 14 series model:

  • iPhone 14: 3,279mAh
  • iPhone 14 Plus: 4,325mAh
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 3,200mAh
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323mAh

In comparison, the iPhone 13 mini has a 2,406mAh battery, the iPhone 13 has a 3,227mAh battery, the iPhone 13 Pro has a 3,095mAh battery, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 4,352mAh battery.

iPhone 14 Pro series

As can be seen, the iPhone 14 Plus has the largest battery ever seen on an iPhone. The official listing of the iPhone 14 series states that the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which has almost the same battery as the Plus model, will offer a longer battery life. It is probably because the Pro model has a ProMotion display, which is said to support 10Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate.

On Friday (Sept. 9), Apple began receiving pre-orders for the iPhone 14 lineup. The Plus variant is scheduled to go on sale on Oct. 7, while the three models are all set to be available for purchase on Sept. 16.

Intel Shows Off 5 Gbps WiFi-7 Technology Coming Soon in 2024

Despite Wi-Fi 6 and 6E adoption rates still being relatively low in 2022, it seems that Intel, the leading semiconductor tech giant is already wanting to move on to the next generation of broadband internet – WiFi 7.

In their latest YouTube video uploaded on Intel’s Newsroom channel, Intel, in collaboration with Broadcom, is shown to demonstrate that Wi-Fi 7 can achieve speeds of up to over 5 Gbps, at least 5 times faster than the 1 Gbps that Wi-Fi 6 maxes out at, and 25 times faster than the average speed of Wi-Fi 5 which is only 200 Mbps.

WiFi 7 exceeding 5 Gbps Intel
Source: Intel

The demonstration was done using an Intel-powered laptop that has support for Wi-Fi 7 and using a Broadcom access point router, the 5 Gbps speed achieved was stable and steady throughout the test. Broadcom adds that the value of Wi-Fi 7 goes beyond simple speed increases to deliver greater network capacity, Wi-Fi 7 will also bring along the benefits of much lower latencies.

“The reduced latencies will be invaluable for immersive experiences over Wi-Fi, with the most obvious applications being online gaming and reduced latency for wireless VR headsets. For media streamers, it also opens up the eye-popping possibility of UHD 16K resolution high fps streaming (or more people on the network streaming 4K or 8K videos),” Broadcom explains.

In their press document for Wi-Fi 7, Intel mentions that the company hopes to deploy and supply Wi-Fi 7 modems in Intel-powered laptops starting in 2024, and the documents also reiterate the 4 main pillars of improvement for the next generation of Wi-Fi.

The 4 key advancements are respectively accelerated connectivity, rock-solid reliability, wired-like responsiveness, and enhanced privacy and security. In detail, Intel promises that Wi-Fi 7 will deliver

  1. Greater than 5 Gbps PC Wi-Fi speeds with consistent ultra-low latency – share files in seconds vs minutes.
  2. Peace of mind your PC will make and maintain the best Wi-Fi connections simultaneously.
  3. No-compromise gaming throughout the home.
  4. Trust in your connectivity.
WiFi generation comparison
Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 comparison table

As shown in the comparison table provided by Intel above, Wi-Fi 7 has new specifications standards when compared to previous generations. The new Wi-Fi 7 will feature tri-band operations, under 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz frequencies. The tri-band operations allow for more multi-device connections across Wi-Fi 7 without much interference as compared to single-band operation and dual-band operation.

The underlying technologies behind Wi-Fi 7 also include wider 320 MHz channels in the unlicensed 6GHz spectrum, higher order 4K QAM data modulation, and the upcoming WPA4 network security encryption standard. I have been using the Red variant of the Muffs A for over a month. So, here is a comprehensive review of the Portronics Muffs A. Before going ahead, let’s have a look at some of the major attractions of Muffs A as advertised by the brand:

  • Ergonomic design
  • 40mm audio drivers
  • Powerful bass
  • Bluetooth 5.2
  • Connect two devices simulatenously
  • 3.5mm connectivity
  • USB-C port
  • 520mAh battery

The retail package of the Portronics Muffs A includes the headphones, a small USB to USB-C cable, a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable that measures slightly over 1 meter, and a user manual.

Design and Build Quality

The Portronics Muffs A on-ear (supra-aural) wireless headphones sport a minimalistic design. The headband and the rectangle-shaped earpads have a matte finish on the outside and memory foam cushioning on the inside. The earpad cushion appears fairly thick but isn’t really as dense as seen on more expensive headphones. The company’s logo is engraved on both earpads.

Both earpads swivel (90-degree) to the side, allowing them to be laid flat as shown in the image. However, it cannot be folded further. There is a 5-level extender on either side that can be simply glided to adjust the Muffs A’s size for different users.

These physical buttons make a clicky sound when they are pressed. It would have been better if Portronics had provided silent buttons on the Muffs A. The headphones are entirely made out of hard plastic, and the quality appears to be good. It weighs only 168 grams.

Comfort

The Muffs A’s earpads are suitable for most ear shapes and sizes. The fit is comfortable. Since they are lightweight and do not feel hard on the ears, one can use them for a longer period, wear them during workouts, or walk around with them. However, if the weather is very hot or humid, some may experience sweating around the ears. Thankfully, they are sweatproof.

Features

The MFB button can be used to play or pause a song. It can also be used to receive or end the call. It can be double pressed to activate a voice assistant like Google Assistant. The volume + key can be long pressed to change songs, while the volume key can be long pressed to listen to the previous song.

On the connectivity front, the Muffs A comes with support for Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. There is no official word on the supported codecs. It can simultaneously connect to two devices via Bluetooth.

Once Muffs A is turned on, it instantly connects with the paired device. I had no problems connecting it with a Windows PC or an iPad. I noticed a slight latency while playing games, but it’s not a major concern.

The Muffs A comes with a big 520mAh battery. Even if the battery dies, the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable that comes with the Muffs A can be used to connect the headphones to a smartphone, tablet, or laptop so that music can still be played. There is no wear detection feature onboard, meaning that the Muffs A will continue to play music even if they are taken off. Hence, users need to manually pause before taking it off.

Sound and Call Quality

The Portronics Muffs A feature 40mm audio drivers and offer a good listening experience no matter what music genre you pick. The audio performance is impressive with the right amount of bass and offers clarity when listening at high volume levels. When the bass is played, listeners may feel slight vibrations on the earpads. I did not experience any rattling while listening to the bass. The Muffs A also produce a balanced output with trebles and vocals. It offers an immersive experience while watching movies.

As for the call quality of the Muffs A, I was able to hear the other person’s voice without any problem. However, the recipient could hear my voice but with less clarity. Sometimes, he could not understand what I was saying, and I had to repeat myself. However, I believe the quality is manageable for a device, and I can’t expect more from wireless headphones priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000.

There is no ANC support on the Muffs A. However, the company claims the wireless headphones are equipped with noise reduction technology, but it has not said anything more about it.

Battery Life

The Muffs A pack a 5,20mAh battery, which can be charged using the USB-C port. It took me around an hour to achieve a full charge.

According to Portronics, it can offer up to 30 hours of playtime. For me, a fully charged Muffs A was able to last around 10 days. I believe users will be impressed by its battery life.

Verdict

The Muffs A is surely something to recommend for people who are interested in purchasing affordable wireless headphones. I particularly liked it to listen to music while working and watching Formula 1 races. The build quality is fine, the audio quality is good, and the battery life is excellent. It’s not only me, but even people who have used it have left good reviews about the Muffs A on Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 fails JerryRigEverything’s bend test but excels in other aspects

A new YouTube video by JerryRigEverything detailing the durability test for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 has surfaced. The video shows that the Galaxy Z Flip4 showed some cracks when it was put through the bend test. Overall, the Z Flip4 performed well, matching the track performance of its predecessor but the cracks call for concern.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 are the refreshed 2nd-gen Samsung foldables. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is smaller than the Z Fold4 but it is also a beautiful device. The Z Flip4 has a unique ability that wasn’t featured in its predecessor. With the device, its rear cameras could capture and display the activity on its secondary display while the display was undergoing Zach Nelson’s stress test. The dirt shower test has been incorporated into the JerryRigEverything tests for smartphones with foldable displays. The Galaxy Z Flip4 came out pretty unscathed after the test.

The highlight of the YouTube video was during the final bend test for the Galaxy Flip4. Several popping sounds and cracks were heard when an attempt was made to fold the smartphone the wrong way. It then became difficult to close the phone with the usual snap. The screen, however, remained seemingly intact although with more of the crease than previously.

The $1,000 Galaxy Z Flip4’s (Amazon) bend test failure seems to have taken some gloss off its overall performance. But then, no one expects a flip phone to survive such an extreme usage scenario without taking a hit. Overall, the smartphone remains an elegant and durable device with a more compact form factor than its bigger sibling.
