Xiaomi schedules a global launch event for March 29, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G expected

The global arm of Xiaomi has scheduled yet another launch event. The conference will take place on March 29. As always, it will kickstart at 8 PM GMT+8. The company says that it will introduce a new Redmi Note smartphone.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5G Global Launch Date

According to a tweet by the official Twitter account of Xiaomi, the firm will be announcing the ‘most powerful Redmi Note.’ The company is calling the device ‘Ultimate’.

Though Xiaomi does not say anything else about the phone, we have been hearing for the past few weeks that this handset will be nothing but the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, which debuted in China in late October 2021. This smartphone also goes by the name of Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in India. Whereas, the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G available in India is the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G sold in other regions outside China.

Though Xiaomi calls it the most powerful Redmi Note, it is actually not. It may be the powerful one outside China but the world’s most powerful Redmi Note title goes to the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G. This device is also known as POCO X3 GT in some markets.

Anyway, talking about the upcoming Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G for global markets, it will arrive with a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera system, 16MP selfie camera, dual stereo speakers, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, and 120W fast charging support.

Infinix announces color changing leather technology, will be used on phones

Transsion today announced that its Infinix brand has released the world’s first light-painted leather technology that changes colors under sunlight. Using it, users can customize the back cover of their phones by drawing a personalized pattern by blocking the light.

infinix light painted leather

According to reports, the light-painted leather technology works by reacting to ultraviolet rays. A photochromic compound is integrated into leather whose molecular structure changes rapidly under sunlight, resulting in color shifting. The effect is temporary though, as the color of the leather gradually returns to its original state.

infinix light painted leather demo

Transsion says that unlike regular electrochromic technology, Infinix’s light-painted leather is a passive color-changing technology, meaning it does not require any additional energy from a smartphone to produce color changes. Simply blocking the light in different shapes is sufficient for creating different patterns, opening up the possibility of endless customization.

The new light-painted leather technology will be applied to future Infinix products soon.

A similar implementation was seen on the freshly-launched realme 9 Pro+, allowing its glass back to show different colors depending on where you are — indoor or outdoors. But unlike the realme 9 Pro+ which had a glass back, Infinix’s technology color shifts leather, which is very unique.

vivo Pad real-life images officially posted, show a clean, minimal design

vivo Smart Devices on Weibo today posted multiple images of the vivo Pad — the company’s very first tablet rumored to be released next month.

The post amusingly said that since the boss requested posters of the product on short notice, all the marketing team could manage were a few actual images. We aren’t complaining though, since the set of images is perhaps the clearest look at the tablet we’ve had to date.

Starting with the rear of the device, there is a circular camera module that looks to be housing at least two lenses inside. This circular module sits inside another island — rectangular this time. A tipster had earlier stated that vivo appears to be going big on round camera modules this year with its upcoming flagship phones, but it seems tablets will be adopting it too. Aside from that, the overall build is metallic and boxy, with squared-off edges.

A keyboard accessory is supported by the vivo Pad as customary, and it frankly looks plenty inspired by the Magic Keyboard you can stick iPads into. It has a flap at the rear which the tablet can lean on, allowing for a laptop-like experience.

Judging from the official renders, the vivo Pad will be available in sky blue and space grey color options. The tablet also supports ecosystem features such as smartphone linking, seamless file transfers, and mobile app controls.

The vivo Pad has already passed 3C certification with model number PA2170, confirming that it chargers at 44W.

Digital Chat Station earlier revealed that the vivo Pad is equipped with the Snapdragon 870 chip, has a 120Hz LCD display, supports 44W fast charging, and has a 7,860mAh battery. The price is expected to be around 2,000 Yuan, meaning the tablet will be competing with the likes of Xiaomi Pad 5, Honor Pad V7, Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro, etc.

The phone has an octa-core SoC codenamed ‘Taoyao’ and it has a base frequency of 1.80GHz. The phone has a max frequency of 2.40GHz.

Xiaomi 12 Lite

This chipset has Adreno 642L graphics that suggest that it is the Snapdragon 778G SoC. It is paired with 8GB of RAM and it boots on Android 12 OS out of the box. The device is expected to have MIUI 13 on top of it.

Apart from this, the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s specs were leaked recently. The smartphone is expected to come with a 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display with Full-HD+ resolution. It is rumored to have a 120Hz refresh rate and Always-On-Display support. The device will likely come with a 64MP triple camera system.

Apple’s rumored 15 inch MacBook may not be the MacBook Air: Kuo

Earlier this week, we had reported on Apple possibly working on a new MacBook model that will feature a 15 inch display. While this was initially believed to be a MacBook Air model, a new report has suggested otherwise.

According to a tweet from known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the upcoming 15 inch MacBook model will not be a part of the Cupertino based giant’s MacBook Air series. For those unaware, we had reported on the iPhone maker planning on launching a new MacBook with a larger 15 inch display that would sell alongside the 13 inch MacBook Air. Furthermore, the previous report also stated that this model will be released sometime next year. However, Kuo’s tweet suggests that it might not be a part of the Air lineup.

While the analyst said that its not a MacBook Air, he did not state what the 15 inch model would eventually be called. Although, Apple has used the “MacBook” for its notebooks as a standalone option outside of its Pro and Air models. However, this series was discontinued back in 2019, with the last model being a 12 inch MacBook. So, its entirely possible that this name might return for the new 15 inch version or even another new branding entirely.

Apple

Kuo also added that the brand is planning on using the same 30W power adapter for the MacBook Air as a power source, despite it having a larger display. In the tweet, he said that Although a larger display generally consumes more power, the design goal is to use the same 30W power adapter as ‌MacBook Air‌.” From what we know so far, this model is rumored to launch in 2023, and Kuo believes that the mass production will be beginning in the fourth and final quarter of next year, if all goes well.

Samsung employee arrested for stealing trade secrets & confidential information

A Samsung Electronics employee has apparently been arrested. The staff member was allegedly stealing trade secrets and some confidential information regarding the company, which is conducting an investigation into the matter right now.

Samsung

He was taking a picture since the database system blocks screen capture, prompting him to use his smartphone to record the confidential information.

As per a media report, the employee had managed to photograph hundreds of trade secrets, which hints that the employee was likely taking these pictures to sell to a competitor. Notably, the chip fabrication information may have even been related to advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes, which could be related to either its cutting edge 5nm or even 3nm chips. Unfortunately, that is all the information we have to go on as of right now, so stick around for more updates.
