Nothing schedules “The Truth” keynote event for March 23

Carl Pei’s Nothing last year launched its first product – the Nothing Ear (1) and the set of wireless earbuds was an instant hit. The company has since made some moves that signaled plans to expand its product offering to include smartphones and other smart products. Last year, a partnership with Qualcomm was announced and only a few days back, Nothing CEO Carl Pei and Qualcomm’s CEO, Cristiano Amon, were spotted admiring a smartphone believed to be the brand’s first smartphone in the works. Nothing

Nothing has now officially announced that it would hold an event on March 23 at 14:00 GMT and a countdown is already running on its official website. The event tagged “The Truth” will see the brand release its product roadmap for the year 2022. Well, the company did not specifically reveal what it would unveil on that day but we suspect the brand’s first smartphone that Pei was spotted showing off to Cristiano Amon a few days back.

The only clue that can be spotted on the countdown banner on Nothing’s website is the Snapdragon logo tucked into the bottom left corner. This could be a hint that the company will indeed by unveiling its first smartphone on that day.

At the moment, nothing is known about Nothing’s upcoming smartphone except that it will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. We expect more details to emerge by way of teasers as the days go by.

Top 10 best selling phones of 2021: iPhones dominate top 5!

The smartphone market has been captured by Apple once again and this time iPhone models have dominated 7 positions among the top 10 best-selling smartphones of 2021.

Top 10 smartphones 2021

According to a new report by Counterpoint Research, the Apple iPhone 12 was the best-selling smartphone of the year 2021. People have preferred this reasonably priced non-Pro high-ender with a normal screen size in comparison to other flagship models with a total world sale of 2.9 percent.

Apple iPhone 12 All Colors Featured

On the second spot is the iPhone 12 Pro Max accounting for 2.2% of global smartphone sales in 2021. On the third position is the vanilla iPhone 13 with a 2.1% share in global sales, and iPhone 12 Pro gets the fourth position with around 2.1% share. Closing out the top five is the iPhone 11, which is still going strong despite now being two generations old.

According to Apple’s recent 1.39 billion estimated smartphone sales, the Cupertino giant may have sold around 40 million units of iPhone 12 models, and 30 million copies of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Other models on the list like iPhone 13, 12 Pro, and 11 models may have seen sales in the neighborhood of 27 and 29 million units each.

Similar to last year, the list did not feature any Samsung high-end devices but rather the budget-oriented Galaxy A12 kept the company in the sixth position.

Xiaomi took advantage of its low to mid-range models with huge success in markets like China, India, and Asia pacific. Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 featured in the seventh and tenth positions respectively keeping the smartphone maker on the top ten list.

The iPhone SE 2020 also remained a popular choice for customers, enjoying a 1.6% share of the total smartphone sales in 2021. And since Apple has just launched the iPhone SE 2022, we can expect the model to be placed higher on the table for the top-selling phones in 2022.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes in at the ninth position in the top ten list edging out the 13 Pro which did not make it in the top 10. This could be due to customers preferring the bigger screen of the Pro Max model, and if this indeed turns out to be true, then this year’s top 10 might look a lot different as Apple is rumored to launch the iPhone 14 Max, which is said to have a screen that will be equal in dimensions to the iPhone 14 Pro Max but will cost less than the iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple M1 Ultra early benchmarks surface, almost rivals AMD Threadripper 3990X

An early benchmark of the Apple M1 Ultra chipset has just surfaced online. Looking at the results, the company’s latest desktop grade processor showcased an impressive performance, which even rivaled one of the most powerful chips from AMD as well.

The benchmark was shared by @Benchleaks on Twitter and showed off some really great performance. In the multi core result on GeekBench 5, the Cupertino based giant’s top end flagship processor scored a whopping 24,055 points. For reference, the M1 Ultra almost caught up to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor. The Apple chipset was just a few percentages behind the Team Red beast.

Keep in mind, that the Threadripper is a 64 core processor. So, its quite surprising to see that the M1 Ultra that was just announced is already rivaling some of the most powerful processors in the market. For those unaware, the M1 Ultra is basically two M1 Max SoCs linked together, in what Apple calls UltraFusion. This essentially doubles the core count of the M1 Max, bringing it to a total of 20 cores. Out of these, 16 cores are high performance while 4 focus on power efficiency.

Apple M1 Ultra

It doesn’t end there as the M1 Ultra’s GPU cores also hit 64 cores, along with a staggering 128GB of unified memory that runs at an impressive 800GBps. This shows that Apple is no slouch when it comes to desktop processors, and isn’t making chipsets just for thin and light notebooks. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X was only 4.5 percent faster than the M1 Ultra chipset, which only had 20 cores in total. Keep in mind that these are still just synthetic benchmarks, and we will have to wait and see what real live performance and tests show.

POCO India shares video on Twitter teasing launch of new products soon

POCO India has just shared a new teaser video on Twitter. The company has been active with recent launches of products in the country, and now, the latest teaser hints at the arrival of even more new devices.

Looking at this video, it isn’t clear as to which type of products the Chinese company aims on releasing in India. The caption just states “Coz the mad don’t care!” alongside a “#MadeOfMAD is coming soon”. So its unclear if the upcoming products are just smartphones or any other products. Although, based on recent launches and certifications, the brand has yet to launch the POCO X4 Pro, POCO F4 GT, POCO C4, the Pop Buds, and a POCO Smartwatch in India.

In other words, the teaser might be hinting at the arrival of the new POCO X4 Pro for the Indian market. This model was launched a few weeks ago in the global market, so it may launch in the region with the brand’s Pop Buds TWS earbuds as well. The reason we believe that the new product launch is related to the X4 Pro is due to the recent BIS certification listing.

POCO X4 Pro 5G Laser Black

For those unaware, the smartphone sports a 6.67 inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, it houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC. For photography, it offers a 108 megapixel triple rear camera module and a 16 megapixel punch hole selfie shooter. So, the Redmi 10C global version may be launching in India as tghe Redmi 10 in India.

On the other hand, we had also recently reported on the Redmi 10 Prime 2022 receiving BIS certification. The Redmi 10 2022 had launched in China back in February, and the Prime model in India is rumored to be the rebadged version for India. This might be true considering the Redmi 10 2021 launched in India as the Redmi 10 Prime 2021 last year. Unfortunately, this is still just speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt for now.

Xiaomi
Redmi 10C

So, its likely that Xiaomi’s Redmi 10C will be the Redmi 10 in India, since the Redmi 9C had launched in India as the Redmi 9. Apple 2022 MacBook Air to feature M1 Chip, new design & color options: Kuo

Apple has just unveiled a bunch of new products during its March 8 event. It introduced a new Mac Studio, iPhone SE 2022, and even the fifth generation of iPad Air as well. But now, a new report has shared information regarding the upcoming MacBook Air.

Apple

The news arrives from known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (Via MacRumors). While the Cupertino based giant has just launched new products, the company is still gearing up to debut new refreshes of its existing lineup of gadgets as well. Now, the analyst states that the 2022 MacBook Air will arrive with a new form factor design and more color options. Furthermore, the new laptop will not feature a tapered design, rather, the iPhone maker will now ship it with a more MacBook Pro-like design.

Furthermore, the 2022 MacBook Air is expected to be thinner and lighter, and may even launch in color options similar to the 24 inch iMac, which is available in blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple color options. It is even rumored to offer an off white bezel and a matching off white keyboard. This is a major shift away from its typical black keyboards.

As per Kuo, the upcoming MacBook Air will run Apple’s M1 series chipset. The analyst claims that the MacBook Air will skip the Mini LED display that the company is reserving for its higher end MacBook Pro models. Notably, the mass production for the new MacBook Air will begin sometime in the second quarter of this year or possibly even the third quarter.
