Huawei will not withdraw from global market and only increase investment, company chairman says

Huawei’s rotating chairman Guo Ping yesterday during MWC 2022 talked about the company’s plans to continue its globalization strategy and increase strategic investment in underlying technologies. Through the investment, Huawei hopes to enhance its mid- and long-term competitiveness while ensuring sustainable development of the ICT industry.

“We will not withdraw from the global market. For customers who choose us, Huawei will go all out to help them achieve business success,” he stated.

Huawei Guo Ping

The chairman added that Huawei will adhere to “globalization” and will significantly increase its strategic investment in its pivotal technologies along with working on architecture and software. This, he said, will gradually be reflected in the competitiveness of the company’s products.

The investment also aims to help other companies get closer to or even exceed the Shannon limit, which is the theoretical maximum transfer rate for error-free transmission over a channel.

On the software end, Huawei is building AI-centric full-stack software and a new software ecosystem to meet the sharply rising demand for computing power brought about by the explosive growth of AI.

MWC 2022 is being held in Barcelona, Spain and will last until March 3rd. Huawei’s booth is located in Hall 1H50, Fira Gran Via.

MediaTek is the top chip supplier for Android phones in the US

MediaTek has just announced that it has become the leading chip supplier for Android smartphones in the US. This announcement arrives along with the company’s plans for the future of its 5G chips.

MediaTek

This marks a major shift as Qualcomm, an American chipmaker, has been the dominant supplier for semiconductors in the smartphone market. According to an IDC report (Via PCMag), the fourth quarter of last year saw the Taiwanese company acquire a market share of 51 percent in the US for Android smartphone chips. The report adds that the company’s stellar performance can be attributed to its strong sales in smartphones that can cost under 400 US Dollars. This segment was previously dominated by Qualcomm.

On the other hand, MediaTek also announced that it has received millimeter wave certification “with a major US operator” (rumored to be Verizon) and will soon offer mid range millimeter wave smartphones in the US by the second half of this year. Notably, Verizon only offers millimeter wave for its 5G smartphones. So, the company’s new 5G chips would enable best selling mid range devices to also be included into Verizon’s list.

MediaTeK Dimensity 9000

Furthermore, the company has also recently announced the Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 8100 series of processors that target the mid range segment, as opposed to the Dimensity 9000, which is for premium phones. So, it remains to be seen if its new chips helps increase its market share and widen the gap between MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Purported HUAWEI nova 9 SE global launch teaser’s out, shows premium design

HUAWEI today confirmed the launch of a new phone in the global market and it’s most likely the nova 9 SE. With a couple of teaser videos, the company gave a sneak peek into its design, revealing just enough to show that the model will have premium looks.

One of the posts says that the upcoming phone will be “sleek and thin with ultra-narrow bezels” while the other says that it will be a product of “sophisticated craftmanship and design.” The teaser videos embedded therein show an oval-shaped camera design and a slim profile.

The HUAWEI nova 9 SE recently bagged certifications from NBTC, EEC, and WiFi Alliance, meaning its launch is now imminent. It is thus extremely likely that the teaser videos show none other than this phone.

Unfortunately, these certifications had barely revealed anything about the device. The only bits disclosed were that it will run EMUI in international markets and HarmonyOS in China and that it will offer dual-band WiFi connectivity.

Having said that, it’s possible that the HUAWEI nova 9 SE is nothing but a rebranded HONOR 50 SE, since the latter with model number JLN-AL00 had already appeared on TENAA in January.

TECNO Mobile brings Samsung’s RGBW Color Filter Sensor Tech to its upcoming CAMON Series

Chinese Smartphone manufacturer TECNO is already into the premium segment with its latest smartphone, the TECNO Phantom X. And now at MWC 2022, the global smartphone maker has announced it will use Samsung’s  RGBW Color Filter Sensor technology in the upcoming CAMON series. The company’s CAMON series traditionally focuses on high-quality camera phones and is specially designed for camera lovers. And now with the addition of the RGBW technology, you can expect pro-level images right from your smartphone.

Techno RGBW tech

The RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) technology allows your camera phone to capture high-definition images, especially in low light, dim and dull surroundings. Unlike traditional RGB sensors, the latest RGBW sensor adopts an innovative pixel arrangement, where it introduces the White pixels which are much more light-sensitive as compared to the RGB pixels, without damaging the original three primary colors (RGB). The beauty of this technology lies in the fact that with White pixels, you get 1.7 times better light sensitivity, which improves the overall brightness of your camera and reduces the color distortions.

Techno RGBW tech

The 64MP main camera will carry the new RGBW sensor. This will increase the light input of the CMOS sensor, which in turn will give you brighter and sharper images without affecting the contrasting dark backgrounds. Moreover, it uses Glass + Plastic (G+P) technology, which effectively increases 30% light intake, further enhancing the final picture quality.

Techno RGBW tech

When asked to describe the new RGBW color sensor technology, Samsung Electronics VP and Head of R&D Pan Xuebao said, “This technology innovation was created based on user feedback and an effort to bring brighter and clear images. Especially in the low light and super night mode. Its first launch on TECNO’s CAMON series bringing us one step closer to the dream of delivering DSLR-grade photography into the hands of worldwide consumers. ”

TECNO’s Senior Product Manager Leo Lee confirmed the use of the new technology in the upcoming CAMON 19 series. He said, “TECNO CAMON series has been always focused on bringing our users the outstanding camera experience. The use of RGBW will increase camera capabilities and increase flexibility on TECNO CAMON 19 series to respond to consumer demands, to highlight natural human features and colors to showcase aesthetics and diversity across different markets.”

We have seen RGBW sensors enable exceptional photography experience on smartphones before. So it’ll be interesting to see how the RGBW sensor on the CAMON 19 series performs.

We don’t have an official release date for the series yet but stay tuned to Gizmochina for more updates.

Nintendo Switch Pro possibly spotted in Nvidia’s leaked source code

A recent leak has offered us some interesting insight regarding an upcoming Nintendo console. The news arrives from an Nvidia source code leak that hints at a new Switch successor (Switch 2), or the Switch Pro.

Since the leak, the Nintendo Switch Pro and Switch 2 have begun trending on Twitter. There had previously been rumors regarding an Pro model for the Switch handheld gaming console, which would have offered native 4K support, although, these have never been confirmed by the Japanese company. With its rival console makers launching the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5, its only a matter of time till Nintendo unveils its own next gen console that features performance upgrades and other new features.

But despite various rumors, the only new release from the company was an OLED Switch variant. However, the Nvidia source code leak, following a cyberattack, revealed files that hint at a new Switch model. The folders in the leak are listed as “nvn2.” For those unaware, the original Switch had an API labelled as nvn. Keep in mind that this listing is not a direct confirmation that the company is working on a new Switch model, so take this report with a pinch of salt.

Additionally, it is also entirely possible that “nvn2” is being used to designate something entirely different. But if it is true, then the Nintendo Switch 2/Pro will feature support for DLSS for its games. The company has seen great success with its existing Switch lineup, even including the OLED variant, so it won’t be a surprise if it planned on launching a new Pro model to compete with the recently released Steam Deck handheld gaming console that is more powerful than any Switch version in the market.

Apple iPhone SE 2 stocks running out as next iteration draws closer to launch

The iPhone SE 3 is almost upon us now, with leaks and rumors piling up over the last couple of months. And as its launch draws closer, a new report shows that the iPhone SE 2 may already be on its way out.

The iPhone SE 3 looks to be getting increasingly harder to get and has even run out of stock at offline Apple Stores. And the places that do have stock have very little of it (via iMore).

Store surveys conducted in major cities across US show low inventories and unavailability of certain variants of the device. Key stores in Canada and popular UK stores like John Lewis and Argos have reported a similar situation.

apple iphone se 2 featured(1)

Moreover, the waiting times for deliveries in the UK through Apple’s website are now stretching beyond two weeks.

iMore says that one Apple retail source in the UK has confirmed that they’re receiving far fewer iPhone SE 2 units since early February. This is limited to this device alone, meaning that dwindling stocks aren’t related to the semiconductor shortage.

The iPhone 3 SE is expected to be priced lower than its predecessor and may recycle the same old design once again. This info comes from a report by analyst John Donovan that projected that the phone could be sold for around $300, which is $100 cheaper than the iPhone SE 2.

In addition to that, the iPhone SE 3 will also most likely be gaining 5G support thanks to it allegedly being powered by the A15 Bionic chip.

POCO is expected to launch a new smartwatch soon in the market. Last time, a POCO smartwatch with the model number M2131W1 was spotted on Russian Electronic Certification revealing its existence. Now, the smartwatch has bagged SGS certification in Belgium revealing the charging details of the device.

The listing was first spotted by the tipster Piyush Bhasarkar and it reveals that the smartwatch has the same model number M2131W1. It was certified last month and we get to learn that it has a charging speed of 5V and 0.3A. It translates to 1.5W of total charging speed support. It also confirms the European existence of the smartwatch.

Other than this, the device was spotted on Malaysia’s SIRIM and Indonesia’s SDPPI certification with the same model number. It seems that the smartwatch will have a wide availability in Asian markets.

Previously, another certification revealed that the smartwatch is manufactured by China’s 70mai. For those who aren’t aware, 70mai is a popular ecosystem company by Xiaomi.

The company has previously manufactured several products like Dash Cam, Tyre Safety monitor, wireless charger, car vacuum cleaner, and more. Now that is coming with a smartwatch under POCO branding, is quite interesting. It remains to be seen what the company offers in the smartwatch department.

POCO smartwatch

As of now, there’s no specs leak of the POCO smartwatch, nor the company has revealed any details. However, back in November last year, a POCO executive confirmed that the brand will expand its ecosystem portfolio with several IoT products. It means that there could be more wearables and other ecosystem devices apart from this POCO smartwatch.

Rumors have it that POCO is expected to launch its first TWS earbuds in the market dubbed POCO Pop Buds soon. But, it won’t be a new product, the earbuds are likely to be a rebranded Redmi TWS Buds.
