Latest Google Pixel 6 marketing renders are easily one of the most satisfying leaks ever

The Google Pixel 6 series is all set to make its debut on October 19 and the latest leaked renders have now given us a deeper insight into them than ever before. They’ve been leaked by none other than Evan Blass and appear to be official promotional images. They give us a glimpse into the series’ fabric case options and the new design of the second-generation Pixel Stand wireless charger.

pixel 6 case

The fabric cases seemingly have a soft squishy exterior and a hard plastic interior. They will offer protection to the camera bump and sport Google‘s familiar “G” logo.

The new Pixel Stand looks like it has gotten a bump in size, likely due to the overall larger Pixels this year, and has a curved rear frame with a non-circular base. It also seems to incorporate a fan system to boost heat dissipation. The UI that shows up on the phone when it’s placed on the Stand has been updated to show media controls and smart home device controls in a grid. There are also shortcuts to toggle performance mode and quiet mode at the bottom.

pixel 6 stand mode

Another upgrade over last year’s Stand is in terms of its charging speed with support for up to 23W. Obviously, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro should also be coming with at least 23W wireless charging support. While the speed is no match for most of the Chinese devices with wireless charging support, it does eclipse the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Next up is the star of the upcoming October event – the Pixel 6 series, of course. While we already know all that the devices will be offering, the leaks do drop a couple of new cues about its software – a new Live Space widget with a flight card and the addition of a new Pixel Security app. We also get to see the various new and colorful wallpapers Google has added.

The new promotional images further solidify the fact that the Google Pixel 6 will be settling with a dual shooter system, thus ditching one of the cameras from its Pro variant’s 50 + 12 + 48MP triple camera configuration.

OPPO A54s is heading to Europe priced around €250: Leak

OPPO is said to launch a new smartphone in Europe called OPPO A54s. This device is expected to be a new variant of OPPO A54 that’s sold in India. A few details about this handset have leaked ahead of its official release.

OPPO A54 Starry Blue Featured A
OPPO A54

Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore has teamed up with MySmartPrice to share some information about OPPO A54s. This budget smartphone from the brand is heading to Europe in the coming days.

According to him, the phone will be available in a single storage configuration. However, customers will be able to pick it up in two colors, such as  Pearl Blue and Crystal Black.

As far as price is concerned, it will cost around €200 – €250. Hence, it will be one of the most affordable handsets in Europe.

Unfortunately, the leaker has no further details about this upcoming phone. But he expects a similar set of features like the OPPO A54 with some improvements.

For those unaware, the specs of OPPO A54 include a 6.51-inch HD+ punch-hole display (LCD), MediaTek Helio P35, 13MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) triple rear cameras, 16MP front-facing camera, ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10 (upgradable to Android 11-based ColorOS 11), side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, 5,000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging.

Honor 50’s price tag leaks ahead of launch in Europe and it isn’t cheap

Last week, we reported that the Honor 50 will be heading to Europe this month. Honor itself has confirmed the launch date and has already put up listings of the phone, excluding the price tag, in some regions. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until the launch date to know how much the device will cost.

Honor 50

The Honor 50 starts at ¥2699 (~€362) in China and for that price you get a phone with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The listing on the Honor Germany website revealed that the base configuration of the phone sold in Europe will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Unfortunately, it won’t cost less just because it has a smaller RAM.

As reported by Winfuture.de, the Honor 50 will be priced at €499 which is about ¥3718 when converted to Chinese Yuan. Honor will also offer the phone in a second configuration that has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and this version will sell for €599. In China, it is priced at ¥2999 (~€402).

While it isn’t expected that the Honor 50 will sell for the same price as it goes for in Honor’s home country, the difference is quite significant. Honor will also face stiff competition from other brands such as Motorola whose Edge 20 smartphone is powered by the same Snapdragon 778G chipset. The Edge 20 Pro is priced at €499 for the 8+128GB version and it has an edge (no pun intended) over the Honor 50. Its refresh rate is not only higher at 144Hz compared to the 120Hz of the Honor 50 but it also packs better cameras. Although the Honor 50 has the advantage of packing a bigger battery capacity and supporting a faster charging technology.

Another competing device priced lower is the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE which is priced at €369 for the 6+128GB version and €399 for the 8+128GB version.

The Honor 50 has a 6.57-inch FHD+ 120Hz display with a centered punch hole that houses a 32MP camera. On the back is a 108MP primary sensor along with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and two 2MP sensors for macro and depth. It has an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 4300mAh battery, and charges at 66W.

When it launches on October 26, long-standing Honor fans who have been longing for an Honor smartphone with Google Mobile Services may overlook its high price tag and choose it over other devices.

Amazon smart refrigerator is reportedly in the works

There are indications that Amazon could be working on a smart fridge, going by feelers from some credible sources. The internal project is reportedly codenamed Project Pulse and it is being developed to help users track their inventory and purchase habits. It will help to predict what a person wants, based on his habits and preferences, and have the product delivered. Project Pulse will also help to track expiry dates, make smart suggestions on recipes based on what is available in the fridge, and interface seamlessly with Amazon’s Fresh or Whole Foods store.Amazon Logo Dark

The Amazon fridge project is believed to be at least two years old although there is no certainty whether the Amazon fridge will become a commercial product. It is also possible that the company may partner with other manufacturers to deliver the product if indeed it is primed for such.

An Amazon smart refrigerator if it becomes a reality, will seamlessly fit into Amazon’s smart home ecosystem. This will provide greater width in the number of things that could be done with the smart home system. Amazon though will not be the first tech company to delve into smart fridges – LG and Samsung have some solid niche in that area. However, Amazon’s key functionality that may showcase the fridge is the possible network functionality that will be available with such a device. Amazon’s network of grocery stores and the use of computer vision to identify items on the store will be done on the Amazon Go Stores.

As of this moment, the story remains speculative and Amazon has flatly debunked the authenticity of the story. It remains to be seen though whether an Amazon smart fridge will pop up in the future. Amazon has shown on several occasions, that it thrives on suspense and uncertainty sometimes.

Intel CEO believes a “software-first” approach will give company an edge against AMD

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, who was appointed earlier this year, is betting big on a “software-first” approach to help the company rise above the competition. He suggests that software will play a much more significant role in the future of the company as he gears up to compete against a very fast-emerging AMD.

In an interview, Gelsinger admitted that Intel wasn’t in its best shape when he took over as CEO in February, thanks to tough competition from evergreen rival AMD that has seen significant growth in the past couple of years. This is combined with the delay in its delivery of 7nm chips and Nvidia’s progress in the GPU-powered AI growth engine.

intel-ceo

But the determined CEO feels that this will be changing soon through the focus on new advancements in manufacturing and architecture over the next few years, paired with Intel’s revamped integrated device manufacturing strategy, IDM 2.0 (via: TechRadar, CRN).

The only setback in Intel’s ambitious plans could be the global silicon shortage that has impacted almost all of the tech industry alike.

However, it appears that Intel will be able to capitalize on the silicon crunch to aggressively push its IDM 2.0 strategy. This should help cushion against any setbacks due to the delay in the production of its upcoming Xeon Scalable Sapphire Rapids processors.

Intel

The strategy, along with the said software-first approach should give Intel the future-proofing that it desperately needs.

“We have to deliver the software capabilities, and then we have to empower it, accelerate it, make it more secure with hardware underneath it. And to me, this is the big bit flip that I need to drive at Intel,” shared Gelsinger.

He added saying that if there’s anything he learned from his 11-year tenure at VMWare, it is that “delivering silicon that isn’t supported by software is a bug.”

Google to launch “Quick Phrases” that activate Assistant without saying “Hey Google”

Google Assistant will soon be receiving a new update that would enable users to use certain words to interact with the assistant without needing to say the “Hey Google” voice activation command.

According to a XDADevelopers report, the search engine giant is working on a “Quick Phrases” feature, which was spotted on a Pixel 3 XL that was running on the Android 12 Beta. As of right now, it is unknown whether Android 12 is a requirement for this new feature. The Quick Phrases feature needs to be activated in the Assistant settings. After it is turned on, the Assistant will now listen for certain phrases depending on the situation.

Google

As an example, users can turn off the alarm when it goes off by simply saying “Stop” or “Snooze” without having to first say “Hey Google.” Similarly, you can even answer calls by just saying “Answer” or reject it by saying “Decline.” Other reports had also revealed a list of other such similar commands that are believed to be a part of these Quick Phrases. This includes commands like “Cancel the alarm,” “Send a broadcast,” “What’s the weather?,” “Turn up the volume,” and “Pause the music.”

AirPods Pro update adds Conversation Boost to keep users more connected to conversations

Apple has finally enabled the Conversation Boost feature it previewed at WWDC earlier this for the second-generation AirPods Pro. A firmware carrying version number 4A400 has been rolled out to the said earphones along with AirPods and AirPods Max.

For the uninitiated, Conversation Boost makes use of beam-forming microphones and has been designed to help people with mild hearing issues hear dialog better, effectively helping to stay more connected to conversations. It works by boosting the volume of a person talking in front of you, making face-to-face conversations more audible. It is joined by an optional feature that reduces ambient noise.

You also gain access to sliders using which you can modify various parameters like amplification, transparency, and tone of what you hear.

Conversation Boost on the AirPods Pro can be enabled via Settings > Accessibility > Audio / Visual and toggling Headphone Accommodations on. Next, turn Transparency Mode and Conversation Boost on as well.

Feature not available yet? Then it is likely that you are not updated to firmware version 4A400. You can check if the update has been rolled out for you through General > About. Next, find and tap on the AirPods connected to your device, and check the firmware version.

That said, Conversation Boost isn’t the only thing new with the new update. The update also adds a new Lost Mode that uses millions of other iPhones, iPads, and Macs to aid in the search if your AirPods Pro/Max go missing. If they come within the Bluetooth range of another Apple device, you’ll be alerted about their location.

Redmi K40S faces production difficulties due to chip shortage: Exec

Xiaomi usually launches its Redmi K series of budget flagship smartphones in the second half of a year. But now, a company official has revealed that the series is facing difficulties in production due to the chip shortage.

Redmi

Earlier today (7th October 2021), Wang Teng Thomas, the product manager of the Chinese smartphone maker (Via MyDrivers), revealed that the Redmi K40S series is facing issues in production. In other words, the K40S series might have its launch delayed slightly or its possible that the lineup might not be launched entirely. Although, this is just speculation as of right now, so take it with a pinch of salt.

As per previous reports, the Redmi K40S will be a rebranded Xiaomi 11T series, which is similar to the K30S being a rebranded Mi 10T series last year. The K40S lineup will apparently include three different models, despite the Xiaomi 11T series only having two models. Although, every model is reportedly set to arrive with different varying charging speeds. The base model will have support for 33W fast charging, while the standard model will charge at 67W, and the high end model will support 120W fast charging.
