Xiaomi Mi TV 5X confirmed to feature HDMI 2.1 ports with ALLM

Xiaomi has confirmed to launch the Mi TV 5X in India at the Smarter Living 2022 event on August 26. Ahead of that, the company has been teasing the features of this television. Just a day ahead of the TV’s official announcement, the firm has revealed yet another key feature.

Xiaomi Mi TV 5X India Launch Teaser 03

According to the latest teaser by Mi TV social media handles, the upcoming Mi TV 5X will have HDMI 2.1 ports with support for ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). In other words, the new TV will be similar to the Redmi Smart TV X in terms of ports.

Further, Xiaomi is also partnering with IMDB for its televisions. We think the company will be announcing the integration of IMDB with PatchWall. With this, users will be able to learn more about the content. Anyway, this is just a wild guess from our end. Probably, the partnership could be for something else.

As per previous teasers, the Mi TV 5X for India will sport a metal frame. The television will come equipped with 40W speakers with support for Dolby Audio. It will also have far-field microphones for accessing Google Assistant.

Last but not least, the Xiaomi Mi TV 5X is said to come with a future-ready chipset and memory. Unfortunately, the exact SoC and the amount of RAM are a mystery for now.

AutoX releases video of its unmanned Robotaxi navigating a busy Shenzhen village at night

Alibaba-backed autonomous driving leader AutoX has released a video showing its fully driverless Robotaxis, navigating through the mazes of traffic and chaos in some of China’s busy urban roads.AutoX

AutoX has been a trailblazer in the autonomous vehicle transportation systems in China. Earlier this year it began testing its Robotaxis in China, and the response was phenomenal. It remains the only RoboTaxi technology platform in China that has achieved fully driverless operations in the country.

In the official video released, the fully driverless Robotaxi was seen gracefully navigating the dense, chaotic public roads in a Chinese urban village. The car deftly maneuvered its way around various potential impediments in the form of pedestrians, pets, motorists, and static roadside barriers during evening rush hour.

The video which was filmed in a Shenzhen urban village shows several onlookers catching a glimpse of the driverless cars without passengers moving through the streets. A few of the pedestrians were seen filming or taking photos of the spectacular car.

The RoboTaxi was seen to come out tops when it was faced with a tricky situation. It maneuvered through an extremely narrow lane that is only wide enough for one vehicle while also facing an oncoming human-driven vehicle. In such situations, the RoboTaxi had acted intelligently to come out unscathed.

The RoboTaxi in the video is equipped with the AutoX Gen5 system, released last month in Shanghai. The Gen5 system has 50 sensors in total, as well as a vehicle control unit of 2200 TOPS computing power. There are 28 cameras capturing a total of 220, six high-resolution LiDAR, RADAR with 0.9-degree resolution which guarantees a 360-degree coverage of the outside of the car.

Samsung disables Galaxy Z Fold3 cameras if user unlocks the bootloader

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is one of the company’s latest foldable smartphone. While it arrives with a lot of firsts for the company like the in display selfie camera, the company has added another odd feature that disables this model’s cameras.Samsung

According to AndroidPolice, users from the XDADevelopers community have found a new change that might have enthusiasts avoid this foldable smartphone. Apparently, unlocking the device’s bootloader will cause the user to lose functionality of their smartphone’s camera system. This move from the South Korean tech giant is likely to deter people from modding its new smartphones. So, unlocking the Galaxy Z Fold3’s bootloader will cripple the camera functionality.

The report further added that unlocking the bootloader will also prompt the device to warn the users that going ahead with this will “cause the camera to be disabled and may cause your phone or apps to stop working correctly.” In other words, users looking to mod or root their smartphones will lose functionality of their camera systems. This also implies that the users will also lose the facial recognition system on their devices a well. Samsung

Although, re-locking your bootloader will bring back the full functionality of the camera systems. In the past, Sony had also employed a similar tactic with its smartphones as well. Sony devices could either be having photos taken by your camera being terrible or having the image sensors not work at all. However, the brand stopped doing this after the release of Android 9 Pie update.

Motorola Moto G50 5G (Saipan) with Dimensity 700, 90Hz refresh rate launched

Lenovo-owned Motorola has officially taken the wraps off the Moto G50 5G in Australia. The launch of the model in the Land Down Under comes after weeks of speculation which saw the model appear in leaks and benchmark database bearing the codename Saipan.Motorola Moto G50 5G

The new Moto G50 5G bears semblance with the model bearing the same iteration that was launched in March this year. However, instead of the Snapdragon 480 chipset on that model, this new G50 packs a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset. The new model also bears some differences with its sibling in the aspect of the rear cameras and the location of the fingerprint sensor. Apart from these few differences, the two Moto G50 models share the same core specs and design.

In terms of the specs, the Moto G50 5G sports a 6.5-inch  LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. The display supports a 90Hz refresh rate and utilizes a waterdrop notch design which houses a 13-megapixels selfie camera.Motorola Moto G50 5G

As stated earlier, the Motorola Moto G50 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded via a micoSD card.

At the rear aspect, the device packs a triple camera setup that houses the cameras in a square-shaped module located at the top left corner of the rear camera. The rear camera consists of a 48-megapixels main camera supported by a 2-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth of field sensor. Motorola didn’t include a rear fingerprint sensor even though the iconic logo is still located at the back. Instead, the device packs a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Moto G50 5G

The mobile phone runs on the latest Android 11 operating system with an overlay of Motorola’s My UX. Keeping the lights on is a generous 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support. The G50 also comes with support for NFC and has a 3.5mm headphone jack.Moto G50 5G

As for the price, the Moto G50 5G carries a price tag of AUD 399 (~$289). The phone will be available in Australia in two color options; Meteorite Gray and Green colors. Motorola is yet to reveal the price and availability details in other markets.

POCO M2 Pro finally gets Android 11 update in India

The POCO M2 Pro was launched in India last July. The device debuted with MIUI 11 based on Android 10. It was updated to MIUI 12 two months post-release. Now, over a year after its launch, the handset has started receiving the Android 11 update.

POCO M2 Pro Out of the Blue Featured
POCO M2 Pro

The POCO M2 Pro is a modified version of the Redmi Note 9 Pro sold in India.  Hence, when the latter got the Android 11 update in November, we expected the former to receive a similar treatment in the next few days.

Unfortunately, that did not happen and the POCO M2 Pro is being updated to Android 11 only now. In other words, the device is getting last year’s Android nine months after the Redmi Note 9 Pro got it.

What’s even more bizarre is despite receiving the Android 11 late, Xiaomi has not bundled MIUI 12.5. This means users will have to wait even more further to be on the latest version of mobile software offered by the company.

Anyway, the new software update for the smartphone arrives with build number V12.0.1.0.RJPINXM. Apart from bringing a new Android version, it also bumps up the security patch level to August 2021.

Like any other OTA system update, this one is also being rolled out in batches. As a result, some users might receive it earlier, while others will have to hold back for a while. At the end of the day, all users will get to experience the new software.

Apple Watch Series 7 rumored to arrive in larger 41mm and 45mm sizes

A new rumor has suggested that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 will arrive in larger sizes than its predecessors. Reportedly, the latest smartwatch generation from the company will launch in sizes 41mm and 45mm case sizes.AppleFor those unaware, the new Apple Watch Series 7 that will launch in sizes that replace the current 40mm and 44mm options that have been offered since the Watch Series 4. The leak was shared by known Weibo tipster UnclePan (Via MacRumors). Before the Watch Series 4, the Cupertino based giant’s popular wearable device had been offered in 38mm and 42mm case sizes before the design being shifted towards the larger sizes. Now, it seems that the brand will be making another change in sizes with the latest models.

Despite the slight rise in size, the iPhone maker has retained the iconic design of its Watches while also retaining compatibility of the bands used in older iterations of the product. In other words, the newer models would support the bands from previously launched variants of the smartwatch. The leaker further added that the Apple Watch Series 7 will also allow bands designed for 40mm and 44mm to work with its newer 41mm and 45mm sizes.

Apple

Although, the rise in size of the new Watches doesn’t arrive as a surprise considering the company is working on narrowing the bezels of the smartwatch’s display with a flat edge design. This would allow for a greater surface area of the screen. Another leaker Jon Prosser shared renders earlier this year that showcased the device with a flat edge design with a larger display. The Watch Series 7 is expected to be launched along with the iPhone 13 series later this year.

Samsung Exynos 2200 with AMD mRDNA GPU beats Apple A14 in benchmarks

Samsung has been known to be working on its next generation Exynos chipset that features a GPU from AMD. Now, an initial benchmark has revealed that the new Exynos 2200 processor with mRDNA graphics has beaten even the Apple A14 Bionic chipset as well.

The news arrives from a tweet from Tron (Via NoteBookCheck) that revealed some benchmark results between the two chipsets. Looking at these results, the Exynos 2200 achieved 170.7fps in the Manhattan 3.1 test while the A14 Bionic recorded 120fps. Similarly, in the Aztec Normal benchmark, the Exynos registered 121.4fps while the A14 only managed to reach 79.9fps. The noticeable difference in frames is also visible in the Aztec High test, with the Exynos 2200 achieving 51.5fps over the A14 Bionic’s 30fps.

These figures showcase the sizeable performance difference between the two mobile processors. Notably, the difference in performance is around the 45 percent mark, with the Exynos 2200 from the South Korean tech giant being in the clear lead. Tron further added that these results were registered back in June 2021 and the Exynos chip was running on the development beta drivers that were provided by AMD.

Samsung

In other words, these can not be seen as a direct and final representation of the Exynos 2200’s performance when it ships with the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. But regardless, this still offers us a decent estimate as to what we can expect with the next generation of Samsung flagship smartphones, which would also excite its loyal customer base.

Samsung reportedly delays new foldable smartphones shipment due to high demand

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung officially launched its latest foldable smartphones — Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. On 11th August, the company started taking pre-orders for these new phones, promising shipments on or before 27th August.

The general sales for the new foldable smartphones are also scheduled to begin from 27th August but it seems that the South Korean giant isn’t able to keep up with the demand and is reportedly delaying shipments.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3

As per the report from All About Samsung, customers in Germany who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3, and the new Galaxy Watch4 series smartwatches are getting emails from the company notifying them about shipping delays. It is also being claimed that shipment for some of the customers could be delayed till mid-September.

Samsung says that this is happening because of the high demand for its newly launched products. This seems to be in line with the previous report, which revealed that the pre-orders for the latest smartphones from the brand have exceeded the South Korean technology giant’s highest projections.

Recently, it was reported that by the end of last week, pre-orders for the new foldable phones crossed the mark of 450,000 units and were speculated to reach 600,000 units by the end of the pre-order period. If the unlocked model is also to be included in the mix, then the numbers could reach 800,000 units. For context, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 had received about 80,000 pre-orders when it was launched.

Huawei reportedly gets license approval from the US for auto chips

In the past couple of years, Huawei’s thriving business has taken a turn for the worst when the United States put the Chinese company in its Entity List, effectively banning the company from doing business with the US-based firms.

With smartphone and chipset business almost non-existent, the Chinese giant has started focusing on other businesses, including PC and auto. Now, it seems that Huawei is finally getting some long-overdue good news.

Huawei Logo MWC 2019

A new report from Reuters indicates that the United States has approved license applications worth hundreds of millions of dollars for Huawei Technologies to buy chips for its growing auto components business.

It’s noteworthy that auto chips are not considered sophisticated, thus it lowers the bar for getting approval. A person aware of the license approval claims that the company is getting approval for chips in vehicles that may have other components with 5G capability.

As noted, Huawei has taken interest in developing components for electric vehicles, which is being seen as the next big thing in technology. Earlier this year, the China-based company unveiled its autonomous driving system solution ADS, which was first showcased on the BAIC Arcfox Alpha S. The car is the first smart electric car equipped with Huawei’s lidar solution and the first model equipped with Huawei Harmony OS car system.

While Huawei didn’t comment about the license approval, the company’s spokesperson has said that the company is positioning itself as a new component provider for intelligent connected vehicles with an aim to help car OEMs (manufacturers) build better vehicles.

Samsung Logo

The company has revealed that it is setting aside 180 trillion won for its home country South Korea and aims to hire another 10,000 people over the period. It’s noteworthy that this new expansion plan includes expenditures previously outlines by Samsung.

The South Korean giant has planned to invest around $151 billion through 2030 to delve deeper into advanced chipmaking. The company is also expected to proceed aggressively as Lee Jae-yong has now been released from the prison on parole after being sentenced to jail earlier this year for bribery.

Samsung is now expected to have further development related to its semiconductor plant in the United States for which the company is spending about $17 billion. It is among the leading chipset maker in the world, competing against Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) after the withdrawal of Huawei from the market. It plans to go ahead with the long-term vision in terms of technology rather than the short-term goals.

Along with that, the South Korean giant is also looking to expand its biopharmaceutical business through its subsidiaries Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepisit. The group will build two new factories in addition to the three currently in operation with the aim of starting vaccine production.
