Ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event slated for August 2021, speculations have trailed the possible lineup of devices to be unveiled at the event. Much of the hype has been around some of Samsung’s impending foldable display models like the Galaxy Z Flip 3.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Thom Browne concept

Some very impressive renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 have now surfaced, and they are indeed very enchanting. American designer Thom Browne has had a strong relationship with Samsung. Both the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 2 from last year had customized Thom Browne editions. It seems that it will extend to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which sports a foldable display setup. LetsGoDigital reported the stunning renders, and the Z Flip 3 was adorned with a tri-color stripe on both the front and rear of the smartphone.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Thom Browne concept

The Thom Browne concept images of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 3 provided sufficient confirmation of much of the rumored specifications of the device. The renders reflect a visible dual-camera setup, a larger OLED display, LED flash, a side-mounted fingerprint module, and its USB-C port, among other visual features. As per earlier specs of the Galaxy Z Flip 3, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Thom Browne concept

The Z Flip 3 will come with Android 11 and One User Interface (UI 3.1.1), a 10MP selfie camera, and a 12MP dual-camera, together with a foldable super AMOLED Infinity-O display. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 will also feature all the basic wireless and connectivity components like Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth version 5.0, NFC, as well as a 3,300 mAh battery with wired 15W charging support, and possibly IPX7 rating for dust and water resistance.

We do not have a definitive price for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 yet, but industry watchers predict that it could be cheaper than its predecessor. While we await the August Galaxy Unpacked event, more details, including specifics about the pricing and possible rollout plans, could surface in the coming days and weeks.

Play Store for Wear OS gets a design revamp

Google has partnered with Samsung to develop a new operating system borne from the fusion of Wear OS and Tizen. While we still don’t know the official name of the new wearable operating system, it is expected to make its debut when the Galaxy Watch 4 series launches. Ahead of their arrival, Google has begun rolling out a design update to the Play Store app for smartwatches.

Info about the new interface was first shared by a user on Reddit and reported first by 9to5Google. The Reddit user who goes by Suunto 7 shared screenshots showing the differences between the old and new interface.

Google has ditched the rectangular blocks for a pill-shaped one that looks nicer. The app icons have also been redesigned. Not only are they smaller but they have ditched the squircle shape for a circle. The font size has also been reduced and the search icon has also been changed from green to white. These changes make the UI look more cleaner and suited for small displays.

At the moment, this seems to be the only report of an update. Google is most likely doing a test rollout, and once there are no critical bugs, we should see a wider rollout.

ZTE Axon 30 5G teaser poster confirms the second-gen under-screen camera technology

ZTE first launched the under-screen camera technology last year onboard the Axon 20 5G Extreme Edition. The Chinese company is expected to launch its second-generation under-screen camera technology this year stuffed inside the Axon 30 series. There have been several rumors surrounding the Axon 30 series but ZTE has now released an official teaser poster that suggests the launch is imminent.ZTE Axon 30

Apart from the imminent launch that the poster suggests, it also contains a render of the device, giving us a clue of what to expect. The teaser poster confirms that the Axon 30 series will feature a full-screen design without any notch or hole punch. In other words, the device will indeed feature ZTE’s next-gen under-screen camera technology. The selfie camera is under the display, giving the device an almost 100% screen-to-body ratio.

Judging from the pictures released by ZTE, the appearance of the lower version of Axon 30 is indeed very high. Without a notch or cut-out, the visual effect of the display is topnotch. Phone enthusiasts who are fans of a completely symmetrical design will find this very appealing. This should be the closest we’ve seen to a bezel-less smartphone.

In addition to the under-screen camera technology, the Axon 30 may also be the world’s first device to get a 20GB RAM version. ZTE executive,  Lu Qianhao recently hinted at a 20GB RAM phone from the Chinese brand. However, we can’t say for sure if this will be onboard the Axon 30. ZTE Axon 30

In addition, a new ZTE model with model number ZTE A2322 received network certification recently. The listing showed that the device will come with a standard 55W fast charging charger. This is also expected to be on the Axon 30.

South Korea leads the globe in 5G download speeds, 10x faster than the US

South Korea is one of the few nations that have widely adopted 5G networking. But apart from just being one of the first, it is also the nation that is capable of offering the true capabilities of the newer and faster telecommunication generation.

South Korea

According to a SpeedCheck report, the country is the number 1 in the world in terms of download speeds. The report added that the speeds in the region can reach up to 449 Mbps (5G median download speeds). This result was found as per tests conducted during the period of February and March 2021. On the other hand, the median 5G download speeds in the US only amounts to 43.4 Mbps, which is about ten times slower than their Korean carrier counterparts. Additionally, the US also has much lower 5G penetration at only 10 percent compared to South Korea’s 20 percent.

The high speeds, in turn, implies that people in South Korea are likely to have a better 5G experience with download times of big files, a more immersive VR/AR experience, and even while playing online video games. Notably, the runner up in the list for the region with the fastest 5G download speeds was Taiwan, which only managed to achieve a median speed of 135.36 Mbps. This is still significantly behind the speeds offered by telecom carriers in South Korea.

5G

The report also did a price comparison between networks of the US and South Korea. Data found that people in the US paid around 1.5 US Dollars per gigabyte, while South Koreans paid 2.3 US Dollars per gigabyte. While the number is higher, the networking speed  difference between the two seems makes up for the price value overall. SpeedCheck also believes that price is not a constraint for US citizens if they can avail much faster networking speeds.

Apple iPhone 13 may feature larger wireless charging coils and reverse charging: Report

A new report has revealed that Apple might be making the wireless charging coil on the iPhone 13 series a bit larger than the previous generation. It is also possible that the change might even bring support for reverse wireless charging as well.

Apple

According to a new rumor from Max Weinbach (Via MacRumors), the Cupertino based giant plans on housing a larger physical wireless charging coil on the rear of this year’s iPhone lineup. This, in turn, would mean the increase of the surface area of the wireless charging. Previously, Weinbach had also reported that the upcoming iPhone 13 would feature stronger MagSafe magnets as well. Now, he believes that this might be the reason for the larger coil size.

Furthermore, Weinbach also added that this could also imply of the arrival of reverse wireless charging support in the next gen iPhones. For those unaware, this technology enables users to charge devices that support wireless charging from their iPhones. For example, one could charge their AirPods through an iPhone 13 model, by simply placing the hearables on the rear of the smartphone.

Apple

As of right now, it is unsure if the company is actually aiming on bringing this feature to its products anytime soon. Although, rumors have surfaced of the 2022 iPad Pro featuring reverse wireless charging technology. Since this technology can cause a drain on a smartphone, it seems more feasible on a larger device like the iPad. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 10 Pro in India in three storage configurations – 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 128GB. They debuted for ₹15,999, ₹16,999, and ₹18,999 respectively.

But unfortunately, the company increased the price of the mid 6GB + 128GB variant by ₹500 on June 4. Hence, this version of the smartphone had been selling for ₹17,499 since then.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro is not the only phone in the Redmi Note 10 series to get multiple price hikes in India. Just a few days back, the price of the vanilla Redmi Note was increased the third time. Additionally, Xiaomi also incremented the price of its select Mi TV and Redmi TV models in the country.

The increase in the price of smartphones and televisions is a direct result of the shortage of components. If the situation continues, it may affect the rate of demand in India.

Notably, the brand also added a disclaimer that stated that “Windows 11 has not been officially released and there might be stability issues with the Insider Preview build as it has not passed formal hardware validation and qualification. The installation or upgrade to the Windows 11 Insider Preview or any third party software is done at your own discretion and risk. Xiaomi leads second hand market for smartphones made in China: Report

A new report has just revealed that Xiaomi is the leader in the second hand market for smartphones that were produced locally in the second quarter of this year in China.

Xiaomi

The news arrives from a recent report from the Zhuanzhuan Group that was titled the “Mobile Phone Market Report for the Second Quarter of 2021.” In this report, it was revealed that the Chinese tech giant overtook Vivo to become the largest domestic smartphone brand in the second hand handset market. Although, the number one brand in terms of transaction volume increase was Honor, which saw a month on month growth rate of a whopping 88.34 percent during the second quarter.

The report also noted an interesting trend, with the price of second hand Apple iPhone witnessing a steady decline in the used market. On the other hand, the prices for the second hand flagship smartphone models from Huawei saw an explosive rise, reaching 96.45 percent for the Mate 40 Pro. While 5G enabled handsets were the market leaders for the new smartphone segment, 4G was still accounted for a notable market share of the second hand market.

Xiaomi

Zhuanzhuan Group’s report also added that the second hand mobile phone market in Q2 saw a 10.76 percent rise in transaction volume over the previous quarter. Talking about the overall market, Apple still led the second hand market with a share of 36.53 percent in Q2. Xiaomi led the domestic brands in this segment, with a 13.88 percent market share. On the other hand, Vivo and Huawei followed close behind with a 12.7 and 12.04 percent market share.

OnePlus may soon enter the tablet category

The Android tablet market had been rapidly declining for the past few years. However, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, the demand for them has soared as people are continuing their job and education from home. As a result, old tablet makers like Xiaomi are expected to make a comeback in the second half of 2021. Similarly, new players are reported to enter the segment. The latest brand expected to launch tablets in the near future is OnePlus.

OnePlus Logo Green

OnePlus is part of OPLUS, which includes OPPO and realme. The latter two brands are being reported to release tablets for months. In fact, realme has even confirmed that its first tablet will be called ‘realme Pad’.

Now, out of the blue, an EUIPO trademark filing by OnePlus reveals that its tablets could be marketed as ‘OnePlus Pad’. Unfortunately, the listing does not reveal anything else.

Since OnePlus is now a sub-brand of OPPO, we can expect the tablets from these three brands to be identical in some way or another. They may run a common ColorOS fork designed specifically for tablets. However, they could ship with some additional features to differentiate from each other.

For years, there have been no good Android tablets in the budget and mid-range segments. This year, Lenovo showed us that companies can do produce affordable tablets like Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 (review) with high-end specs.

Hopefully, the new breed of Android tablets from existing players as well as new entrants make a difference in the tablet market, which is dominated by Apple iPads.

India has selected four companies to boost local IT product manufacturing

At the start of this month, India announced the names of four global firms that will be a part of its 1 billion US Dollar incentive plan that aims at producing and boosting exports of laptops, tablets, and personal computers.

India

According to a Reuters report, India named Dell Inc, Wistron Corp’s ICT, Flex Ltd, and Foxconn’s Rising Stars as its choice of global firms that would be a part of its IT product manufacturing boost plans. Furthermore, the local government also selected an additional ten brands as well, including smartphone makers Lava and Dixon, which manufactures TVs for Xiaomi Corp in India. The government revealed the list of firms in a statement recently.

In the plan, these manufacturers will get cash back of 1 to 4 percent of additional sales of locally made products over the course of years.
