Nubia Z30 Pro official render reveals it has a centered punch hole, specs leaked too

This Thursday, the Nubia Z series will return with the launch of the Nubia Z30 Pro. There have been rumors floating about regarding what the phone looks like, now an official render along with specs have surfaced that confirm and clarify some of what we already know and also reveals more details.

As seen in the official render below, the Nubia Z30 Pro has a curved display and if you look closely, it has a centered punch hole. Earlier rumors reported that the phone will have an under-display camera but that is not the case. Actually, Nubia will not be launching a phone with an under-display camera this year. This info was revealed at a pre-launch event held in China last weekend.

Nubia Z30 Pro

According to the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, the Nubia Z30 Pro’s display is an OLED panel with an ultra-high refresh rate. If we were to take a guess we would say it has a 144Hz refresh rate just like the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra.

The phone will also have a Snapdragon 888 processor which was already confirmed months ago. The leaker also mentions that there will be three 64MP cameras on the back of the phone along with a periscope camera o the back of the phone. This is the same camera configuration the Axon 30 Ultra has. While the battery capacity was not revealed, Nubia has added support for 120W fast charging.

As you can see, the Nubia Z30 Pro packs pretty impressive specs even though they are similar to those of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra. However, it comes with significantly faster charging. It remains to be seen if it will have a more affordable price when it is announced later this week.

Samsung Galaxy A30 receives Android 11 (One UI 3.1) update

Samsung launched the Galaxy A30 in early 2019. The smartphone debuted with One UI 1.x based on Android 9.0 Pie. The device was later updated to One UI 2.x (Android 10). Now, two years after its release, the phone has started receiving the Android 11 (One UI 3.1) update.

Samsung Galaxy A30

The Android 11 or One UI 3.1 is the second major software update for the Samsung Galaxy A30. According to SamMobile, this update is currently live in India with firmware version A305FXXU6CUE1.

Along with new features and redesigned UI, the new system update for the Galaxy A30 also bumps up the security patch level to April 2021. That said, just like any other OTA update, this one is also being rolled out in batches. Hence, it may take some time to reach every unit.

Users of this smartphone in India can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check whether their device has received the update. As for other regions, the One UI 3.1 should be available there gradually in the comings days.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 is not eligible for three generations of Android updates. Therefore, Android 11 is the last major system update for this headset. However, it is eligible for at least four years of security patches.

Xiaomi working on parallel charging smartphone battery technology: Rumor

Earlier today (17th May 2021), a new rumor surfaced that suggested that Xiaomi is researching and developing smartphone batteries that support parallel charging technology to achieve faster charging speeds and charge rates.

Xiaomi

According to known tipster @数码闲聊站 on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, the company is working on dual cell smartphone batteries. Xiaomi is known to be one of the pioneers in smartphone battery technologies, which has enabled it to offer faster charging rates on both wired and wireless charging platforms. So, it won’t be surprising if the company is actually is researching and developing parallel charging technology as well.

Earlier this year, the Chinese tech giant had launched the Mi 11 Pro that features a 5,000mAh Silicon Oxygen anode cell that supports up to 67W fast charging. Hence, the brand might be able to offer fast charging speeds that could reach up to 120W in the near future. Fast charging rates over 100W isn’t exactly a new technology, as devices have achieved it in the past. This includes the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition that arrives with a dual cell 4,500mAh battery that supported 120W fast wired charging.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro Review 16

In other words, the company might be improving on this technology and might grow the number of smartphone lineup that feature this technology. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter.

Samsung reportedly facing production issues for Galaxy A-series due to chip shortage

The global shortage of chips has created a lot of issues for the technology companies, impacting their production cycles. While the automakers were the first to be heavily impacted, now consumer electronics companies are also facing the heat.

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers, is reportedly facing production problems for its Galaxy A series of phones. As per the report coming from Korea, the company is facing issues with procuring Application Processors (AP).

The issue is especially for the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A72 smartphones that were first unveiled by the South Korean giant in March this year. While these phones are launched in some European countries, only the Galaxy A52 5G is available in the US.

The smartphones facing issues are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G and Snapdragon 750G processors, manufactured by Samsung Foundry using the 8-nanometer Low Power Plus (LPP) process.

A report cites a person aware of the matter who works at a company that is a supplier to Samsung. Further, the report adds that the delayed production of Galaxy A-series phones is worrying other component suppliers over delayed revenues.

Qualcomm CEO-elect Cristiano Amon had said a couple of months ago that the chip shortage is expected to continue up to the end of this year. Samsung CEO for IT & Mobile Communication Business, DJ Koh had wanted about the serious imbalance in supply and demand of chips.

Xiaomi application for ‘MIX’ trademark declined, Court says its similar to Meizu MIX

Earlier this month, the State Intellectual Property Office in China announced that the litigation request from Xiaomi was rejected by the Beijing Intellectual Property Court. The company had applied for a “MIX” trademark that was declined due to clashes with an existing trademark from a different company.

According to a MyDrivers report, the Chinese tech giant had filed a trademark application for “MIX” but this was rejected. The disputed trademark is for No. 29673851 for “MIX” that is designated to gadgets like ‘computers; pedometers; mobile phones; sensors, etc.’ Now, the judgement states that the trademark for that includes “MIX” is disputed as it is already related to an existing trademark that is registered by another smartphone brand, Meizu, and is similar to its Meizu MIX trademark.

The Mi MIX Fold

Furthermore, the court also pointed out that it is also in use by other companies as well. Notably, one of the primary reasons for the rejection of the litigation request was due to the nature of the products that the term “MIX” was used on, since both Meizu and Xiaomi use it on similar products. The latter had first introduced its Mi MIX smartphone back in October 2016, on the other hand, the Meizu MIX had been unveiled two months prior. Although, unlike Xiaomi, Meizu had launched a smart watch instead of a handset.

Xiaomi patents Dual Side Slider smartphone with a secondary display

To put things simply, the device has a portion of it that slides from both the left and right side of the device, hence, the dual side sliding term. Looking at the images shared within the patent, one of the most interesting aspect of this device apart from its dual side slider is the different purpose each serves.

When the user slides the device to the right, a camera module can be observed. On the other hand, the left portion of the slider mechanism uncovers a smaller secondary display. This display is narrow but as tall as the primary display. The smartphone resembles any other device in the market but with a display that covers the entire front area. No front camera or any other seams are noticeable, which is to be expected since the camera is housed on the sliding mechanism.

Notably, there is no rear camera module on the back panel, but the image sensors are also housed on the slider mechanism as well. The front has three cutouts for while the rear has four cutouts. This gives a distinctly minimalistic and futuristic look to the device. Unfortunately, it is unknown if Xiaomi is actually working on such a device or is covering all bases. But, the brand has been known to unveil innovative smartphone designs, so we might see a concept sometime in the future, but that is just speculation and take it with a pinch of salt.
