Last week, OnePlus announced that it will be releasing the OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition in China today (May 24). As scheduled, the company has officially launched this special edition of its first smartwatch in its home country.

The OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition is identical to the original OnePlus Watch in terms of specifications. It only differs with regard to looks and price.

The special edition watch is themed after the popular video game – Cyberpunk 2077. This wearable was supposed to launch alongside the similarly themed OnePlus 8T. However, the release of the smartwatch got delayed for unknown reasons.

The watch comes with a yellow-accented bezel and strap. The latter even has the ‘Cyberpunk’ branding. Further, the wearable features Cyberpunk 2077-based UI, watch faces, and bootanimation. Weirdly, the bootanimation mentions ‘Android’. For those aware, the OnePlus Watch runs a customized RTOS (Real-time Operating System).

Most importantly, this special version smartwatch ships with a holder-cum-charger, which is designed after the hand of ‘Johnny Silverhand’, a popular character played by actor Keanu Reeves in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.

Last but not least, the OnePlus Watch Cyberpunk 2077 Limited Edition is priced at ¥1,299 (202). For comparison, the regular OnePlus Watch and the OnePlus Watch Cobalt Limited Edition retail for ¥999 ($156) and ¥1,599 ($249) respectively.

The smartwatch is already up for pre-order and it will be available for purchase on June 1 at 12 AM (local time). As of now, there’s no official word on this wearable’s availability outside mainland China.

Realme Smart TV 4K confirmed to launch in India on May 31

Realme last month released a teaser pointing to the launch of the Realme Smart TV 4K 43″ in India in May. Just when the month is about to come to an end, the Chinese tech giant has released another teaser poster showing that the smart TV will be launched on May 31.

The Realme smart 4K TV comes well kitted as a truly smart home appliance that guarantees a true 4K cinematic experience for viewers. Both models come with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology to give an excellent viewing experience. The company has also announced two sizes of the smart TV 4K (50-inch and 43-inch versions).

Some of the early visuals show that the smart TV 4K will have Voice Assistant compatibility as well as a slim and beautiful exterior. The Realme smart TV 4K packs lots of power and performance. We expect a strong processor and memory (both system and internal memory) and innovative graphics and audio outputs. The sound output of the new gadget is bound to be several notches above the earlier models. The 50-inch model is a new entrant, while the 43-inch version is an improvement of last year’s model.

More specific details about the two models will become available as we inch towards the launch date next week. We will also get to know the pricing details of the Realme smart 4K TVs as we move closer to the release date next week. Realme will also be unveiling the Realme X7 Max 5G smartphone on the same day.

Chinese startup Pony.ai gets the nod to start testing its driverless vehicles in California

The US state of California has granted permission to Chinese firm Pony.ai to carry out a pilot run of its driverless vehicles in three cities in the state. Six Pony’s autonomous vehicles will be allowed without a safety driver at the wheels in Fremont, Milpitas, and Irvine, within designated roads in these cities.

The permit was issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, which is the statutory regulator for issues relating to autonomous vehicle testing on public roads. The new permit is an extension of the earlier permit already granted to Pony.ai since 2017 when it started testing autonomous vehicles with a safety driver behind the wheel in California. The vehicles will operate on roads with speed limits below 45 miles per hour, and testing will commence first in Fremont and Milpitas on weekdays between 10 am and 3 pm, while the city of Irvine will follow suit later.

Some stringent conditions must be met before companies are granted these permits, and any collisions or crashes involving these driverless vehicles must be reported to the regulator within 10 days. In addition, the company will submit an annual report of disengagements to the Department of Motor Vehicles before re-issuance of the permit. There is also the tiny requirement to provide evidence of insurance or a bond of $5 million.

Currently, more than 50 companies have active permits to test autonomous vehicles with a safety driver in different cities in California. Pony.ai joins a growing list of companies that have active permits to test driverless vehicles in California without a safety driver. There are currently eight companies with such permits, including Baidu, AutoX, WeRide, Cruise, Nuro, and Zoox, although only one of these companies (Nuro) has a permit to operate commercial services.

Since 2016 when Pony.ai began operations, it has continued to expand in its scope of operations, attracting investments from important quarters. This has seen the company come out stronger this year as it continues to evolve new partnerships and collaborations with automakers and suppliers. Pony.ai’s agnostic virtual driver system could be applied to vehicles of all sizes and purposes and could provide a revolutionary approach to driverless technology.

It’s been a few months since Xiaomi-backed Redmi launched its latest K-series smartphone in the market — Redmi K40. Now, the top-end variant of the model, featuring 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, has dropped its pricing by 200 yuan (~$31).

The device is now available for purchase in China for a price of 2,499 yuan which roughly converts to $389. The pricing is the same as the 8GB + 256GB variant. The Redmi K40 series has been quite popular as it sold 1 million units in just 23 days.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone feature a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED True Tone display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display has a DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR10+, and a maximum brightness of 1300 nits. It also has MEMC and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor along with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. On the back, there’s a 48-megapixel f/1.79 Sony IMX582 primary camera, a 5-megapixel telephoto macro camera with a 50mm focal length, and an 8-megapixel 119-degree ultrawide angle camera.

On the front side, the device features a 20-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling. The phone can record slow-motion videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p and at 960 frames per second and can also record in 4K at 30fps.

The Redmi K40 runs MIUI 12 based on Android 11 out-of-the-box. It comes with features like side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, and Hi-Res Audio Wireless. It is powered by a 4520mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

Xiaomi has expanded its home robot vacuum cleaner lineup with the launch of the MIJIA Ultra-thin Robot Vacuum Cleaner. The product happens to be the thinnest model compared to previous models with a 5.5cm body thickness. It also comes with several top-notch features that are not impeded by the thin build.

The MIJIA Ultra-thin Robot Vacuum Cleaner utilizes the popular LiDAR technology to achieve full-scene intelligent obstacle avoidance. As a result of the thin build, the vacuum can navigate to hard-to-reach places in the home. Xiaomi claims to have conducted some research before the design of the product. One such research shows that if the height of the vacuum is controlled within 6cm, more than 80% of the bottom of furniture can be cleaned. Interestingly, the research also shows that the minimum limit of traditional robot vacuums is basically above 8cm or even higher, and the height of the bottom of the furniture in most households in China is about 7cm. Thus, this new vacuum cleaner solves a peculiar problem.

It also deploys a ToF sensor and a front camera which all aid the visual navigation capabilities. The robot vacuum also offers a four-fold increase in scanning range and a five-times increase in the mapping accuracy. After the device has been used for some time, it then automatically generates a zone map.

The MIJIA Ultra-thin Robot Vacuum has two sets of dust boxes, with one having a 500ml large-capacity. There is also a two-in-one drawer combination design made up of a 200mL dust box and a 220mL water tank. With these designs, users can switch between sweep and mop integration and separating sweep and mop functions.

Further, the robot vacuum is equipped with a brushless motor which achieves an ultra-large suction force of 2000Pa. Compared with the ultra-thin mainstream suction nozzle design, the roller brush design deeply absorbs common trash such as lint, particles, and hair. The suction power can be graduated in 4 levels depending on the intensity of the dirt. The base level has less noise while the super-powerful level is ideal for sucking carpets and other dirty areas.

For the mopping function, there is a 200ml intelligent electronically controlled water tank with 3 levels of water volume adjustment. You also get the option of selecting the mopping pressure level.

As with other Xiaomi smart products, the MIJIA Ultra-thin Sweeping and Mopping Robot (if we’ll call it that) can also be remotely controlled via the MIJIA app. The vacuum cleaner can also be set to sweep through a custom cleaning mode when no one is at home. The robot vacuum can also be used to control other home gadgets via the XiaoAI voice prompt.

Talking of the pricing and availability, the MIJIA Ultra-thin Robot Vacuum carries an original price tag of 2,499 yuan (~$380) but is presently available on Jingdong (JD.com) for 1999 yuan (~$310) which is 500 yuan off.

POCO is the fastest growing brand in India, registers 300% YoY growth

POCO has become the fastest growing smartphone brand in India. The company saw a year on year growth of a whopping 300 percent in the first quarter of this year, as per a new report.

According to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Track that was released in May 2021. The report added that the Chinese smartphone maker saw an “immensely” positive reception for its product portfolio in the region. Its various offerings that have offered stellar performance have enabled it to become the fastest growing smartphone brand. Back in November 2020, the company had ranked third in the online smartphone brand category. This had it overtake the likes of Realme and OnePlus in a short span of just 10 months.

Now, the brand has achieved another milestone. Just last year, the POCO X2 had been the best selling smartphone on Flipkart, a local e-retailer giant, under the price segment of 15,000 to 20,000 INR in March. Similarly, its successor the POCO X3 was also featured as one of the best smartphones under the sub 20K category. This model sold around 500,000 units in just 45 days of its launch in India. Furthermore, the brand soon launched the high end POCO X3 Pro that targeted users that wished for more performance.

Red Magic, the company is known for making gaming smartphones, has now officially teased a new upcoming device on Weibo — Tencent Red Magic 6R. Along with that, the brand has also revealed some details related to the phone.

The teaser also revealed that the smartphone will feature 400Hz dual-touch gaming shoulder button, which is specifically designed for games. Prior to this, the company had confirmed that the phone will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC.

Further, it’s confirmed that the device will have LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage, ensuring better performance. The AnTuTu benchmark score of the smartphone has reportedly reached 845,210 points. Additionally, it has been revealed that the phone measures just 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 186 grams.

Last week, Xiaomi confirmed the existence of a new smartphone called the Redmi Note 8 2021. The Chinese firm has released new tweets to confirm some of the key features of the smartphone.

In the below-shown poster, the Redmi Note 8 2021 can be seen sporting a waterdrop notch display on the front, and its rear features a vertical camera system. Like the original Redmi Note 8 phone from 2019, its newer version has a 6.3-inch LCD display and a 48-megapixel quad-camera system. Rumors have it that the main snapper will be joined by an ultrawide lens, a macro camera, and a depth assist lens.

It appears that the Redmi Note 8 2021 will be available in at least two colors such as Neptune Blue and Moonlight While like the original model. A fingerprint scanner can be seen on the backside of the smartphone. The Chinese firm has confirmed that the Helio G85 chipset will be present under the hood of the Note 8 2021. To recollect, the older version was equipped with the Snapdragon 665 chipset.

The Redmi Note 8 2021 was recently spotted at the FCC certification platform. It revealed that the phone will ship with MIUI 12.5 and a 4,000mAh battery. It is speculated that the phone will carry support for 22.5W fast charging. It may come with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB / 128 GB of storage.

Earlier today (24th May 2021), Oppo announced that it will be partnering up to with NIO complete the joint development and testing of the standard digital car keys, which are based on CCC 2.0.

This digital car keys will be compatible and work with the wallet app on smartphones and even smartwatches from the Chinese tech giant. Furthermore, the company also announced that it will be working with a number of automobile manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers as well to offer broader support that includes multiple car brands from across the globe in the future. Thus, it is closely working with the Chinese car maker NIO, to complete the development of the CCC 2.0 based standard digital car keys, as per an ITHome report.

Through the CCC 2.0 version of the digital car keys, Oppo is aiming on eliminating the need for users to carry a physical car key when going out. Customers can simply unlock and start their cars through the NFC function that is built into smartphones or the company’s wallet application on the smartwatch. For those unaware, CCC stands for the Car Connectivity Consortium, which is a cross industry alliance dedicated to solving the problem of standardization of automobile interconnection.

In simpler terms, this is a group comprised of car makers, suppliers, and even smartphone makers and app developers that are working together to develop a single universal digital car key standard. The CCC 2.0 digital car key standard works through NFC technology and also adopts advanced information security technology as well, which utilizes cloud computing, secure interaction, and other advanced technologies like independent security chip to safely authorize the unlocking and starting of the users’ car.

Redmi will be unleashing the Redmi Note 10 5G series of smartphones on May 26 in China. The Redmi Note 10 5G could be the same device that went official in March in global markets. The lineup is said to include two other models such as Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 10 Ultra 5G. The Ultra variant’s key specs had appeared last week. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has shared key details of the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G handset.

Shown below is an official poster of the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G that has appeared in a JD listing. The retailer has listed the handset for reservations, but it has no information on its specifications.

The frontside of the phone features an LCD panel with a centrally aligned punch-hole. According to a popular Chinese tipster, it features a 6.6-inch LCD FHD+ screen. The company confirmed today that the Note 10 series supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and DCI-P3 color gamut.

The rear appearance of the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G seems to be inspired by the Xiaomi Mi 11 5G Signature Edition. Its rear-facing triple camera system has a 64-megapixel primary camera. Rumors have it that the Note 10 Pro 5G is equipped with the Dimensity 900 chipset.

The company confirmed today that the Redmi Note 10 5G series will come with support for Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and X-linear motor. The Note 10 models will also feature the Razer mechanical keyboard app, which comes with RGB lighting. Redmi is also offering the same keyboard as the Redmi K40 Gaming smartphone. Similarly, BTC.TOP also announced the suspension of its Chinese business due to the regulatory risks in the region. Founder Jiang Zhuoer further added that “In the long term, nearly all of Chinese crypto mining rigs will be sold overseas, as Chinese regulators crackdown on mining at home.” Back in 2017, China had lost its position as a global cryptocurrency trading center as it faced a ban in Beijing. Jiang now predicts that “Eventually, China will lose crypto computing power to foreign markets as well.”

Xiaomi has just announced that it would be launching a new smart TV at the beginning of next month. This is the Mi TV 4A 40 Horizon Edition which will be launched on 1st June 2021.

As per a recent tweet from the Chinese tech giant, the new smart television will feature the Horizon Display, which is offered with minimal bezels on all sides. The company is advertising it with a bezel less design and also showcased the TV in an image poster as well. Looking at the tweet, Mi India stated that the TV would offer an “Immersive experience. Beautiful visuals. Truly a work of art.”

Unfortunately, the company refrained from mentioning any specific details and specifications regarding the upcoming product. Although, the new smart TV is likely to be similar to the Mi TV 4A Horizon Edition, which was launched back in September 2020. This model was launched in two size variants, including a 32 inch and a 43 inch variant. So, we can expect this TV to fill in the size between both models with its 40 inch display.

Both of the previously launched TVs offered more than 90 percent screen to body ratio and sported up to FHS (1920x1080px) resolution. These also ran Android Pie and shipped with Xiaomi’s PatchWall. While the pricing of the upcoming Mi TV 4A 40 is unknown, it is expected to be between the 180 to 315 US Dollar price tag that the 32 inch and 43 inch model shipped with, respectively.

Recent reports have revealed that the OPPO phone with model number PENM00, which was recently seen at China’s TENAA and 3C certification site is the forthcoming OPPO Reno6 Pro+ flagship. The handset is set to go official with the Reno6 5G and Reno6 Pro 5G on May 27 in China. Ahead of the launch, the PENM00 handset has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking site (via) with some of its key specs.

Reports have claimed that the Snapdragon 870 chipset will be present under the hood of the Reno6 Pro+ 5G. The SoC is mentioned with “kona” codename and 1.80GHz base frequency on Geekbench 4.2.

The Geekbench listing further mentions that the device has 12 GB of RAM ahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngyc3YNVWQInd it runs on Android 11 OS. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the handset scored 4649 and 12712 points, respectively.

Last week, the Reno6 Pro+ 5G was found listed on popular Chinese retailer sites such as JD.com and Suning. The listing revealed that the 12 GB RAM variant of the Reno6 Pro+ 5G will ship with 256 GB of storage. Its base model will offer 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The OPPO Reno6 Pro+ 5G is expected to arrive with a 6.55-inch AMOLED FHD+ display, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging support. It has a front camera of 32-megapixel and its rear camera setup has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 primary camera, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 13-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. At present, there is no word on its pricing.

Reports have revealed that the Reno6 will be arriving with the latest Dimensity 900. On the other side, the Reno6 Pro will be equipped with the Dimensity 1200 chipset.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G will be getting a successor in the form of the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G on May 26. Ahead of it, Xiaomi is updating the older device to the latest version of MIUI. In other words, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G has started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G launched in late November 2020 with MIUI 12 based on Android 10. The phone was updated to Android 11 at the end of March 2021. Now, two months later, Xiaomi, the parent company of Redmi is rolling out MIUI 12.5 update for this handset.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G MIUI 12.5 update arrives with build number V12.5.2.0.RJSCNXM. Just like any other new MIUI public release, this build is currently in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase.

In simpler words, the new software build is being seeded out in batches. Hence, at the moment, the latest system update is only available for a select few users. But it should be available for everyone in the coming days.

That said, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is sold as Mi 10i in India. The smartphone is also known as Mi 10T Lite (64MP primary camera instead of 108MP) in other markets. Therefore, these two phones could also get the MIUI 12.5 update in near future.
