In mid-June, Xiaomi confirmed the MIUI 12.5 update for a bunch of yesteryear flagship smartphones. All those models have received the promised update in the past few weeks, except for the Mi MIX 2S. Now, it has also started receiving the latest version of MIUI.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S
MIUI 12.5 was unveiled at the Mi 11 launch event at the end of December 2020. Xiaomi began to release the stable update in late March 2021. Since then, it has updated most of its portfolio in China.
The Mi MIX 2S is one of the last few older flagships eligible for the MIUI 12.5 update. Hence, it is getting the update only now. The latest system update for the handset in China arrives with build number V12.5.1.0.QDGCNXM.
The software build is currently in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase. In other words, it is being rolled out in batches for a select few users. At the end of the day, the update should be available for all users in the coming days.
Since Xiaomi released Mi MIX 2S outside mainland China, the device also has two other regional software builds – ‘Global’ and ‘Russia’. Handsets running these builds will be also getting the new update soon.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S launched with MIUI 9 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone has received three MIUI updates (MIUI 10, MIUI 11, MIUI 12) and two Android updates (Android 9.0 Pie, Android 10). Hence, it will most likely not get MIUI 13 and Android 12.
Xiaomi has just applied for a new trademark application that could be an upcoming consumer electronic product. The application is for the “XIAOMI MAGIC CONTROL,” which could possibly be a new smart universal remote controller.
This trademark application for Magic Control was filed for multiple categories including advertising sales, design research, scientific instruments, and communication services. At the moment, the trademark is still waiting for registration. Unfortunately, apart from the name of this product, we have no real information to go on as of right now since it is just an application (spotted by ITHome). Although, we can make certain speculations regarding the nature or function of this device.
The name ‘Magic Control’ is quite similar to a previously launched gadget from the Chinese tech giant dubbed Mi Magic Controller. This was practically a cube that will function as a standard remote controller. It offered users various forms of controls and actions and worked with a number of Xiaomi products including lamps, TV sets, Air Purifier, along with smart TVs and other smart products as well.
The most notable aspect about this product was that certain actions were input through simply shaking the cube, moving it, and even rotating it 90 degrees or 180 degrees, or by making a double tap on it. So, the Magic Control might be similar to this product. However, it might also arrive with additional features like gesture support or even air gestures as well. But we have no way of knowing for sure.
Earlier today (20th July 2021), Redmi had held an online launch event in India in which it unveiled its latest smartphone, the Note 10T 5G. During this live stream on YouTube, the company also teased the launch of its RedmiBook series of laptops in the region.
At the end of the live stream, the Chinese smartphone maker teased the arrival of various products. This includes smartphones, power banks, Redmi Audio, Fitness, upcoming smart TVs, and right before the end it spelt out the incompleted “RedmiBoo,” which clearly implies the brand’s own lineup of notebooks. Unfortunately, this is all the information the company shared regarding this matter as of right now.
In other words, we have nothing but this split second teaser to go on at the moment. Although, this does mean that the company is finally bringing its laptops to the region, which could be beneficial to the company as work from home/ remote working along with online education lifestyles are still common amid the pandemic. Furthermore, if Redmi follows its value for money philosophy with laptops, we might see capable hardware in aggressively priced notebooks.
Previously, Xiaomi had also launched its Mi Notebook 14 laptops in India that saw strong sales at its price point. So, this could’ve been one of the reasons why even its subsidiary will be launching its own RedmiBook series as well. We had also recently reported that the new RedmiBooks arriving in India and are rebranded Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Notebook Ultra 15 that have launched in China.
Handset maker realme has been working on releasing the realme UI 2.0 update for its devices since September 2020. Ten months later, the brand is yet to update its portfolio to the latest version of its software based on Android 11. The next model to receive this update is the realme narzo 20 Pro.
realme narzo 20 Pro
Smartphone brand realme kicked off realme UI 2.0 Early Access program for the realme narzo 20 Pro at the end of December 2020. This means the company took almost 7 months to deliver stable Android 11 update for this handset.
According to a tweet by @thegadgetshub (via PiunikaWeb), the realme UI 2.0 stable update for the realme narzo 20 pro arrives with firmware version RMX2161_11_C.09 and weighs a whopping 3.04GB in size.
Like any other OTA system update, this one is likely being rolled out in batches. As a result, it may take some time to reach every unit. At the end of the day, the update should be available for all users in the coming days.
At the moment, it’s not known whether the realme narzo 20 Pro will be updated to Android 12. Going by realme’s slower update rollout, the smartphone may not be eligible for the next version of realme UI.
Scientists in India have recently developed the world’s hardest known substance that is also capable of self healing. The scientists are from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
According to a TelegraphIndiareport, the Bengal scientists collaborated in synthesizing an organic crystalline material that has a unique internal molecular structure, which is capable of repairing itself when damaged. To demonstrate this self healing capability, the scientists used a trigger mild to severe cracks in on this material. After making these cracks, the material begins to automatically reverse the damage within a fraction of a second after the needle pressure was withdrawn.
While self healing materials have been in existence for a while now in various forms, but these are usually soft and amorphous. In simpler terms, these usuall have an internal structure marked by irregularities and defects and need external agents like heat, light, or other chemical products to heal. Chilla Malla Reddy, a chemical sciences professor at the ISSER who led the research stated that “Our self healing material is 10 times harder than others.”
He further added that “it has a crystalline structure, a well ordered internal structure, the favored structure in most electronics and optical applications.” In other words, the material likely has vast possible applications in consumer electronic products as well. One of the researchers also added that “I can imagine an application for an everyday device. Such materials could even be used for mobile phone screens that will repair themselves if they fall and develop cracks.”
Samsung launched the Galaxy M01s in India in July 2020. It was one of the most affordable smartphones from the company last year. Exactly after a year from its launch, the phone has now finally started receiving the Android 11 update.
Samsung Galaxy M01s
Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy M01s Android 11 update arrives as One UI Core 3.1. As per SamNext, the latest system update for the handset comes with firmware version M017FXXU2CUG1.
The new update is currently being rolled out in batches in India. Users in this region can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check whether their unit has received it.
Even users in other regions could try checking for the new software build by following the above-mentioned method. Either way, the Android 11-based One UI Core 3.1 update should reach all the regional variants of Galaxy M01s in the coming days.
A new report has revealed that the DJI Mavic 3 Pro might not be launching for a while now. A source close to the matter has revealed that the new drone might not be arriving till October 2021 or even later.
According to a DroneDJreport, a reliable source from China has stated that the Mavic 3 Pro will not launch till October, at the earliest. For those unaware, the Mavic 3 Pro will be the latest drone from the popular Chinese drone maker, which is a part of the company’s high end Mavic Pro series. It is expected to arrive with various improvements and additions over its predecessor.
While anticipation for this drone in the market is high, prospective buyers might still have to wait longer. The report further added that the source had initially stated that the Mavic 3 Pro will launch in October, but now, the source has doubts regarding this timeline. The reason for this is apparently due to the progress of the development of the drone, which is slow as of right now.
Similar to other tech based firms, even DJI is likely to prepare and test multiple prototypes of a new product before deciding on a final design and then preparing for mass production prior to its release. So, the date for the launch is still uncertain at the moment, although, we can expect a late Q3 or a Q4 launch later this year.
HONOR Magic3 series is all set to launch on August 12. Ahead of that, the company has been teasing the phones’ design as well as features on social media. The latest teaser video dropped today shows off the curves of the camera module.
As per multiple teasers released by the brand so far, the HONOR Magic3 series will come with a giant camera module, which could be either circular or squircle. The exact rear design of the phones is a mystery as of now. But we know that the front will include a dual punch-hole display.
It is said that these smartphones will be identical to the HUAWEI Mate40 series but with Qualcomm chipsets. However, we think the design will be slightly different even if the handsets come with a circular camera design on their back.
Further, their exact specifications are also known at the moment. Different sources mention different specs. As per official information, at least one of the models will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC.
Just like the HONOR 50 series, these phones will likely run Android 11 with support for GMS (Google Mobile Services). Since the launch event is labeled as ‘global’, the devices should be available outside mainland China as well.
As per rumors, the HONOR Magic3 series will comprise the following four smartphones.
OPPO silently unveiled the OPPO Reno6 Z in Thailand. It has arrived as the successor to the Reno5 Z that debuted a few months ago in some Asian markets. Like the other Reno6 series phones, the Reno6 Z features an attractive Reno Glow design. At the front, it features a punch-hole display that supports only a 60Hz refresh rate. The handset comes with other attractive features like a 64-megapixel triple camera system and a decent battery.
OPPO Reno6 Z specifications and features
The OPPO Reno6 Z has a 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ display that offers 800 nits peak brightness and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The screen is integrated with a fingerprint scanner, and the display punch-hole houses a 32-megapixel selfie camera that can capture stabilized 30fps 1080p videos.
The triple camera unit available on the phone’s back has a 64-megapixel main camera, a 119-degree 8-megapixel superwide sensor, and a 2-megapixel camera for macro shots. It supports 30fps 4K video recording and 120fps 1080p slow-motion shooting.
OPPO Reno 6Z
The Reno6 Z draws power from Dimensity 800U chip and a 4,310mAh battery that comes with VOOC 4.0 30W rapid charging support. The phone ships with 8 GB of RAM, up to 5 GB of extended RAM, and 128 GB of built-in storage. The usual connectivity features including a 3.5mm audio jack are also available on the device. The handset runs on Android 11 OS with ColorOS 11.1.
OPPO Reno6 Z pricing and availability

Oppo and its ‘family brands’ have together managed to achieve the second spot in the global smartphone market for the month of May 2021. During this month, the company and its subsidiaries managed to account for 16 percent of the total market share across the globe.
According to a Counterpoint Research report, the Chinese tech giant and its sub brands managed to secure the second spot in the global smartphone market, while Apple came in third with a 15 percent share in the market and Xiaomi arrived fourth with a 14 percent share. Jene Park, senior analyst at Counterpoint added that “OPPO and its subsidiaries’ combined global smartphone sales surpassed Apple and Xiaomi in April and May taking the vendor to second place globally.”
The analyst also stated that “OPPO family may likely be the next dominant brand to come from China since Huawei.” For those unaware, the brand often targets the offline segments, aiming at mid to low end handsets, while Realme also competes in the lower end segments. On the other hand, OnePlus is primarily geared towards the premium segments, which have recently merged with Oppo.
While the other two brands are a part of the Chinese smartphone maker, each of the firms also works independently and works to raise their respective brand awareness. This has shown great results in the market so far.
Nokia is apparently working on a new smartphone. This device will a part of the company’s G series of handsets, as a retailer listing for the Nokia G50 was recently spotted online.
According to a NokiaPowerUserreport, the smartphone maker is planning on launching a new device that will be in the same series as its G10 and G20 smartphones. The listing was spotted on a UK retailer’s website that featured a Nokia G50 Blue dummy unit with EAN and MPN. Unfortunately, the listing did not reveal any specifications or finer details regarding this upcoming smartphone, nor did it feature any image of the device.
The only thing that was discernable was that the manufacturer was the Finnish tech giant. Although, a few speculations based on its name can be made regarding this device. The Nokia G50 would clearly be placed higher than the currently available G10 and G20 devices. In other words, it might arrive with some capable hardware at a reasonable price range as it is a part of the G series.
The ‘G50’ name also implies that the company could also be working on an X50 5G model as well. For those unaware, the brand had previously launched the X10 and X20, along with the G10 and G20 in the past. Unfortunately, this is still just speculation at the moment, so take it with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned for more updates.

On the front, the display is expected to be a 6.92 inch OLED screen that houses an under display 16 megapixel selfie camera and in display fingerprint scanner.
