An upcoming realme smartphone with model number RMX3195 has been certified by Thailand’s NBTC. According to the certification, this phone will launch as realme C25s.

Unfortunately, the handset’s listing does not say much about it. As of now, we only know that it will be a 4G smartphone. Additionally, the device has been listed on the Indian IMEI database as well. Hence, it could launch in both Thailand and India, in addition to other markets.

For those unaware, the vanilla realme C25 sports a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD screen. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio G70 SoC coupled with up to 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

The phone features a 48MP + 2MP + 2MP triple camera setup on the back and an 8MP selfie camera. However, the Indian variant comes with a 13MP primary sensor.

Other features of this device include dual-SIM, 4G, dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, dedicated MicroSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11, 6,000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging.

Huawei has recently been rolling out the developer public beta version of its HarmonyOS to select smartphone models. Now, the company has announced that it is gearing up for the launch of the its proprietary operating system’s final build that will launch sometime in early June 2021.

Huawei

According to Wang Chenglu, the President of the Chinese tech giant’s consumer business software department and director of AI and smart business department, the company will be rolling out the HarmonyOS (also known as HongMengOS in China) update from the beginning of June. While the senior executive refrained from announcing the names of the specific models that would receive this upgrade, it is expected that the Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, the P40 series, and the Mate X2 series will be one of the first to receive the update.

Although, after the initial batch of smartphone models receive this update, Huawei would soon include other devices as well in following batches to receive the new update. It is also expected that a large number of older models from the company, including certain Honor smartphones will be receiving the update as well, later on during summer. This would mark a big move from the company as it shifts away from Android for its 200 million smartphones that are currently in circulation.

Huawei

The brand is aiming on moving all of these 200 million devices to its own platform by the end of this year. This new OS also supports cross platform, meaning, it was designed to be uniform and work seamlessly with the users’ other smart home products that support HarmonyOS. So stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G could launch in India after all

Samsung launched the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A72, and the Galaxy A52 5G at the GAlaxy Awesome Unpacked event in March. The former two devices made their way to India in the same month itself. However, the latter did not make the cut. But now, it seems like the Galaxy A52 5G will launch in India after all.

Samsung Galaxy A52 / A52 5G

According to Twitter user @_the_tech_guy, Samsung has started developing firmware for the Galaxy A52 5G Indian variant. This version of the smartphone will arrive with model number SM-A526B. For those unaware, the regular Galaxy A52 sold in India bears the model number SM-A525F.

But unfortunately, the timeline of this handset’s launch in the country is a mystery as of now. As far as pricing is concerned, we can expect it to sit between the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 as there’s a huge price difference between them.

Talking about features, the Galaxy A52 5G differs from the vanilla Galaxy A52 in terms of three aspects. The former is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC, features a 120Hz display, and comes with 5G connectivity. On the other hand, the latter has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, a 90Hz display, and 4G connectivity.

This is not the first time Samsung will be bringing a 5G variant of the existing model to India. Just recently, the South Korean tech giant debuted the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the country after half a year from its initial release in global markets.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series faces issues with its S Pen

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series, including the base model and the Galaxy Note 10+ is apparently facing an issue that is affecting its S Pen. A number of users have recently started complaining about this issue.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10

According to a SamMobile report, the high end devices from 2019 is facing an issue that causes the S Pen to disconnect every now and then. This can further lead to certain functions and features not being usable within the Galaxy Note 10 series, including the Air Actions. While the problem of disconnection of the S Pen isn’t exactly a new issue, the frequency at which it occurs has risen recently. A few of the Galaxy Note 10 users found that the issue started appearing after installing either the March 2021 or April 2021 security patch.

Although, there is not evidence to support this claim at the moment. But, the users are frustrated with the issue and have called for Samsung to fix the issue. As per some users, they are greeted with a disconnection error as soon as they take the S Pen out from its silo. The issue still persists even if the connect the S Pen again. Oddly, despite the S Pen getting disconnected from the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+. users can still use it to navigate, scroll, and touch the screen.

However, they can’t use Air Actions to control the camera app, volume navigating the photos in the gallery app. From the various reports, it is clear that the problem has been popping up since mid 2020 with no solutions out right now. Redmi Watch is launching with Redmi Note 10S on May 13 in India

Recently, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be announcing the Redmi Note 10S smartphone on May 13 in India. A new tweet reveals that the company will be also taking off covers from the Redmi Watch alongside the Note 10S.

The Redmi Watch will be the second wearable device from the brand after the Redmi Band, which is currently selling for Rs 1,399. It appears that Redmi Watch was originally announced back in November 2020 in China.

The specs of the Redmi Watch bear resemblance with the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite, which debuted in December 2020 in global markets. As far as differences are concerned, the Mi Watch Lite supports more sports modes than the Redmi Watch.

The Mi Watch Lite supports GPS and GLONASS positioning but lacks NFC support. On the other hand, the Redmi Watch lacks GPS but comes with NFC support. The Redmi model is equipped with a built-in voice assistant, which is absent on the Mi Watch Lite as it lacks a microphone. Both watches have a 230mAh battery, but the MI model offers longer battery life of 9 days, whereas the Redmi variant offers 7 days of battery juice. There are high chances that the global Mi Watch Lite will be heading to India with the Redmi Watch moniker.

Samsung to reportedly supply 120Hz OLED display for iPhone 13 Pro models

Samsung has been one of the leading suppliers of display panels to Apple for the iPhones and the same arrangement is expected to continue for the upcoming models as well even after the company increases orders for LG Display and BOE.

As per the new report coming from Korea, Samsung Display is now expected to ship 120Hz OLED display panels for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models. This means that the upcoming smartphones from Apple will have smoother content as well as scrolling.

Apple iPhone 12

It is being claimed that Samsung will be an exclusive supplier of 120Hz panels for the Pro models. The upcoming iPhone 13 Pro models are expected to use Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LPTO) Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) OLED panels. For those who are unaware, LTPO OLED is needed for the 120Hz refresh rate screen.

The usage of LTPO technology would result in a more power-efficient backplane, which is responsible for turning individual pixels on and off on the display, allowing for a 120Hz refresh rate without a significant impact on battery life.

The iPad Pro models from Apple since 2017 come with support for a 120Hz refresh rate as a part of its ProMotion Display. It automatically adjusts the refresh rate depending on the content. Almost all the high-end flagship Android smartphones also come with support for a 120Hz refresh rate and now it’s high time Apple introduces the same on its iPhones.

The global shipments of OLED panels reached 53 million units in January 2021 out of which Samsung Display accounted for 45 million units, capturing about 85 percent of the market, followed by LG Display with 6 million shipments.

Alleged ASUS ZenFone 8 Pro (ASUS_I007D) BIS certified, India launch could be near

The ASUS ZenFone 8 series is all set to go official on May 12. Reports have revealed that the lineup includes three handsets such as ZenFone 8 Mini, ZenFone 8, and ZenFone 8 Pro. The ZenFone 8 series will not be launching in India on May 12. Hence, the Taiwanese manufacturer is likely to hold a dedicated launch event to announce the ZenFone 8 family. The India launch may of the next generation ZenFone flagships may not be far away as one of the models has appeared in the database of the Bureau of India Standards (BIS).

The final product name of the ASUS_I007D is not known yet. It is believed to be codenamed as VODKA and it is speculated to release in the market as the ZenFone 8 Pro. As far as specs are concerned, the only thing that is known about this device is that it is a flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.

The ASUS_ZS675KW model number is also associated with the alleged ZenFone 8 Pro. Vague reports suggest that it could be sporting an OLED panel. It is unclear whether the device will be featuring a flip-up camera setup like the predecessor ZenFone 8 series.

Currently, ASUS is teasing the arrival of the ZenFone 8 Mini. Reports have claimed that it has a 5.92-inch OLED FHD+ display with a punch-hole design. It is expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate. Apple AirTag isn’t very useful for checked baggage tracking

Apple has finally launched its much-anticipated AirTag in the market which makes it easier for the users to keep track of their valuable things and objects. If you were wondering if the device can be used for tracking baggage, then you have come to the right place.

The simple answer to this is yes, the newly launched Apple AirTags can be used for the checked baggage, reports David Flynn of Executive Traveller. However, the tracking of bags won’t work in the airport conveyer belt system, despite the fact that there will be airport workers with iPhones working close to it.

Apple AirTag

This is because AirTag’s live here-I-am tracking isn’t intended for objects that are moving unless that happens at the most leisurely pace but the airport luggage belt is fast for the AirTags to work properly.

If you are concerned about the usage of rechargeable lithium-ion battery packs that have been banned by the airlines, then there’s nothing to worry about as this doesn’t apply to the tiny single-use lithium CR2023 cells.

In the future, Apple can expand the functionality of AirTag through a software update that would send a notification to the user’s iPhone once the device comes within the range of Bluetooth, such as when the bag lands on the carousel.

Currently, the scenario where AirTag can be useful for luggage tracking is when your bag has been unexpectedly directed to the oversized baggage office instead of coming out on the luggage belt or any similar situation where the bag is misplaced but is stationary.

Amazon’s Rivian Electric Delivery Vans now making deliveries in Colorado

Back in March, we reported the rollout of Amazon‘s Rivian vans in San Francisco. Denver is now the third city in the United States that now enjoys deliveries by the Rivian Electric vans after San Francisco and Los Angeles. The partnership between Rivian and Amazon is certainly blossoming with the target rollout to other cities well underway.Amazon Rivian Electric Delivery Vans

California caught the first glimpse of the prototype vans after their launch after a partnership between Rivian and Amazon worth over $700 million. The timeline of the development of the vans saw Los Angeles as the first city where actual Amazon deliveries were carried out by the electric vans. San Francisco also joined the growing list of cities in March.

Amazon hopes to have up to 100,000 Rivian electric vans in the coming years. The logistics giant seeks to have a significantly reduced carbon footprint by the time it transits fully to EVs.

The choice of cities so far chosen for the Rivian delivery vans seems to be very strategic. For one, the climate and topography of Colorado will provide a firm testing template for the vehicles as a full rollout is being worked on. The vehicles have to be well-suited to withstand the elements across the country, whether in hot or cold climes. These are variables that need to be factored into the design of these vans, to be sustainable as a business model.Rivian electric delivery vans

It is projected that up to 10,000 Rivian vans would have become operational in Amazon’s US fleet by 2022. Several other cities will also see these vans strutting across their motorways soon. The early tests in dense areas like Los Angeles seem to have been a success.

Rivian has seen a rise in its acceptability as a budding EV manufacturer. It also has a growing fan base in Colorado. The Rivan Adventure Network is an initiative the company has berthed in Colorado, with two charging stations planned for each of the state’s 42 parks. The first of these chargers will become operational as early as July.

Facebook and Instagram seems to threaten iOS users to charge unless they opt to share data

Apple has updated its privacy policy for iOS 14 which mandates app developers to notify users about the information it collects. The social media giant Facebook has been campaigning against this.

Now, as the new policy goes into effect, Facebook has added a notice for the users about the information it collects from other apps and websites which can “help keep Facebook free of charge.” The company has also added a similar message for Instagram.

The company is referring to the notices as “educational screens,” and says that they provided “more details about how we use data for personalized ads.” The notice on the screen reads: “This version of iOS requires us to ask for permission to track some data from the devices to improve your ads. Learn how we limit the use of this information if you don’t turn on this device setting. We use information about your activity received from other apps and websites to: show you ads that are more personalized, help keep Facebook free of charge [and] support businesses that rely on ads to reach their customers.”

As stated, the new opt-in requirements in the latest versions of iOS require developers to get express consent from device owners to allow their Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) to be shared and collected across apps.

Under Apple’s new privacy policy, app developers are still able to use other information a user provides for targeted advertising, even if the user opts out of letting the app track them, but that information can’t be shared with another company for ad tracking.

Facebook has been a vocal critic of Apple’s iOS 14 privacy updates, arguing that the privacy changes could hurt small businesses which may rely on Facebook’s ad network to reach customers. Facebook says Apple is encouraging new business models to rely less on advertising and more on subscriptions, which would potentially give Apple a cut.

Xiaomi shares the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition’s teardown video

The Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition was unveiled by Xiaomi on April 27 as not only the cheapest gaming phone around but as the first Redmi-branded gaming phone. The phone turned out to be a popular model as it got sold out in just 1 minute. The company over the weekend released a teardown video of the gaming phone, giving us a glimpse of the internals. Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition

The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition teardown shows that the device packs well-arranged internal components that would make for easy repairs if the need arises. The teardown also reveals the aerospace-grade hexagonal boron nitride heat dissipation material which is pasted on the back cover and is close to the mainboard for heat conduction. Also, despite the thin build, the Redmi gaming phone packs an NFC coil assembly and an infrared transmitter.Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition

Also shown in the disassembly video are the motherboard and camera sensors. The device uses a 64MP main sensor featuring ED ultra-low dispersion optical glass lens and also equipped with a resin lens in order to achieve a good shooting effect. The Samsung LPDDR4X memory and UFS 3.1 flash memory are also shown. The Dimensity 1200 chip is located under the memory and so isn’t visible.

The middle part of the phone’s back panel facing the location of the processor is covered with a large-area VC soaking plate while the upper part is coated with silicone grease for heat conduction.

The video also shows that the lithium battery which the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition uses is manufactured by a domestic manufacturer – Dongguan New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (ATL) and is code-named BM56. The battery has a typical capacity of 5065mAh and a rated capacity of 4965mAh. It comes with two cables which power the 67W fast charging current.

The phone has a shoulder button that is linked to a connecting rod. The button automatically pops up after the phone is switched to gaming mode. Furthermore, in order to achieve the ultra-narrow lower frame that is just 2.7mm thick, the OLED screen uses COP (Chip On Pi) packaging. COP screen packaging involves directly bending a part of the flexible screen to further reduce the frame, which can achieve a nearly borderless effect.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 Pro unit allegedly goes up in flame in India

Xiaomi‘s Redmi Note 9 Pro was part of the Redmi Note 9 series released last year. The phone was a cool model with several positive reviews from buyers. But one buyer in India recently had a sour experience with his Redmi Note 9 Pro which reportedly went up in flame while in use.REdmi Note 9 Pro catches fire

According to the report carried by India Today, the incident was reported by the user’s sister via the Twitter handle @PriyankaPavra. She disclosed via the tweet which has now been deleted, that her brother’s phone caught fire on April 28. The phone was purchased in December last year making it barely four months old and from the picture, it is a  Redmi Note 9 Pro. The brother then had to extinguish the fire by throwing water on the phone. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident.

Even though the post has been deleted, perhaps after Xiaomi India’s customer service reached out to her, images of the charred unit which she shared and the screenshot of her tweet can be seen above.

In response to an inquiry by India Today, Xiaomi disclosed that investigation is already underway and preliminary examination suggests that the damage may have resulted from an external force. This may be the last we’ll hear about this case, though.

This report comes barely two weeks after a POCO X3 unit was reported to have gone up in flames. Also, there have been several similar reports in the past concerning Xiaomi models and those of other manufacturers. The culprit is usually the battery and the most prominent of such stories is that of the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 which Samsung had to discontinue.

Realme has a new Bluetooth speaker, actually, this is its first one, and it packs some pretty interesting features. The Realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker as it is called is a cute little speaker that was announced a few days ago in Malaysia.

Realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker featured

Shaped like a cobble, the speaker comes in Metal Black and Electric Blue. The black variant has the manufacturer’s name printed on the grille while the blue one has a camouflage pattern. Also, only the blue one has a luminous lanyard that glows in the dark.

The Realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker has an IPX5 rating which means it will survive splashes and sprinkles. Just make sure that the flap covering the USB-C port is properly closed.

The speaker has a 5W dynamic driver that is paired with a passive bass radiator for deeper bass and clearer and more powerful sound. There are two buttons on the speaker – one is the power button and the other allows you to switch between three equalizer presets. Owners can also pair two units of the speaker together for stereo sound.

Another interesting feature of the speaker is its Game Mode. This is not a feature common in Bluetooth speakers but realme has added it to its own. According to the manufacturer, the latency drops to as low as 88ms when in Game Mode.

The speaker connects via Bluetooth 5.0, supports AAC and SBC codecs, and also works with the Realme Link app so you can manage the speaker. The Realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker has a 1500mAh battery capacity and should last up to 9 hours on a single charge.

Details about pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed.
