OnePlus EB2103 appears on Singapore’s IMDA ahead of launch

Last month, 3D CAD renders of a OnePlus smartphone codenamed Ebba were released by reliable leaker @OnLeaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer). A couple of days later, a OnePlus phone with model number EB2101 was certified by BIS. Now, another OnePlus handset with model number EB2103 appears on the IMDA certification bureau.

OnePlus Ebba featured

The OnePlus EB2101, which was spotted on India’s BIS is expected to be the OnePlus Ebba. That’s because OnePlus usually uses the first two letters of its device’s codename in its model numbers.

Hence, the newly discovered OnePlus EB2103 on Singapore’s IMDA could also be the same phone. However, we do not have concrete proof of this.  Anyway, according to this certification, the handset will have support for 5G, LTE, VoLTE, WCDMA, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, VoLTE, and GPS.

That said, as per the renders by Steve, the OnePlus Ebba will feature a 6.49-inch flat display with a single punch-hole at the top left corner. The device’s glossy plastic rear panel will house a vertically aligned triple camera setup.

Further, this smartphone will sport a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker grille at the bottom. Also, it will include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor but no alert slider.

Last but not least, the OnePlus Ebba, which is said to be the successor of the OnePlus Nord N10 5G will measure 62.9 x 74.7 x 8.4mm in dimensions.

Huawei Wireless Mouse GT gets certified by Wireless Power Consortium

Huawei has had to pivot to other businesses following the massive blow it was dealt by the U.S. ban. One of the areas the Chinese giant has focused on is computers and related devices. It already sells its own monitor and keyboard, and now it may also begin selling a gaming mouse that supports wireless charging.

We came across a Huawei mouse in the database of the Wireless Power Consortium. According to the listing, the input device is called the Huawei Wireless Mouse GT and it has model number AD21.

Huawei Wireless Mouse GT

The attached image shows the mouse has a black matte finish and a design that is akin to gaming mice. There is a scroll wheel in the center along with two buttons. We also believe the mouse has RGB lights judging from the type of plastic used for the V-part of the design.

The Huawei Wireless Mouse GT supports Qi wireless charging and should work with any Qi wireless charging mat/pad.

Q Wireless Mouse Pad
3rd-party wireless charging mouse pad sold on Vmall

We don’t know when Huawei will announce this gaming mouse and if it will be announced globally. Also, while it has its own wireless charging pads for phones, it doesn’t have a wireless charging mouse pad. There is actually a 3rd-party one listed on Vmall but only a small part of the mouse pad is the charging area. Maybe we will get a proper wireless charging mouse pad when the Huawei Wireless Mouse GT is announced.

OPPO F11 Pro gets ColorOS 11 (Android 11) stable update

Back in December 2020, OPPO started recruiting beta testers for OPPO F11 Pro Android 11-based ColorOS 11 update. Months later, this smartphone has finally started receiving the stable update.

OPPO F11 Pro Featured
OPPO F11 Pro

OPPO announced ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 in September. Since then, the company has been delivering beta and stable builds for eligible devices worldwide.

Going by the schedule, OPPO opened beta registrations for OPPO F11 Pro and OPPO F11 Pro Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition in December. However, even after four months, the company did not make an official announcement regarding the stable release.

Instead, the firm vaguely mentioned in ColorOS 11 April 2021 update plan that the stable update for the OPPO F11 Pro, the OPPO F11 Pro Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition, and the OPPO F11 has been released.

But now, we can confirm that the Android 11 stable build has been indeed released for the OPPO F11 Pro. Since Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition runs the same software, the update should be also available for this variant of the phone.

This information comes from a reply tweet by ColorOS official Twitter handle (via PiunikaWeb). Unfortunately, the tweet does not mention the firmware version.

Anyway, if you own an OPPO F11 Pro, then head over to Settings > Software update to check whether your unit has received the ColorOS 11 stable update. If you did not get it, then wait a bit further as it may take some time since it is being rolled out in batches.

OnePlus sees a whopping 388% YoY sales growth in Europe: Report

OnePlus has recently seen explosive growth in the western region. The company’s sales have seen a whopping 388 percent year on year growth in Europe, as per an official announcement.

OnePlus

According to the official notes from the Chinese tech giant (Via 9To5Google), the smartphone maker saw a 388 percent sales growth in the first quarter of this year in Europe. This is reflected by the 10 million global users of the company’s smartphones. A major part of the growth is likely due to a number of factors, including growth in confidence of the brand and rise in spending by people post the Coronavirus pandemic that affected the world back in 2020.

Furthermore, the growth of the company in the region is also likely linked to the decline of Huawei after its smartphone operations were crippled due to US sanctions, especially outside of China. For those unaware, the brand faced restrictions coupled by the lack of access to Google Play Services caused the company. Thus, the company saw impressive growth in the region, which was further backed by the launch of the latest OnePlus 9 series.

OnePlus

Despite the major growth, the company only holds a 2 percent market share within Europe with a proposed 85 percent figure. As per a Counterpoint Research report, this still puts the brand in third place in terms of year on year growth after Realme and Oppo that recorded 183 percent and 94 percent growth respectively.

Indian smartphone market witnesses 26% YoY growth in Q1 2021: Report

India is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world and the market witnessed a surge of 26 percent in the first quarter of this year with shipments of 38.8 million units of smartphones in Q1 2021.

A report from Strategy Analytics claims that the surge in demand is a result of eased lockdown restrictions in the first quarter and increased demand for new 4G smartphones.

Xiaomi remained the leading smartphone brand in the country with a 26.5 percent market share. The company is facing tough competition from Samsung which has captured an 18.6 percent market share in India.

Indian Smartphone Market Share Q1 2021

Last year, in Q1 2020, Xiaomi had a massive 32 percent market share while Samsung had only 16 percent during the same time. Now, Samsung is trying to surpass Xiaomi to become the leading smartphone brand in India.

The new devices coming from the South Korean giant, including the Galaxy M-series, A-series, and F-series are in demand given that they offer a smartphone from a famous and premium brand at affordable prices.

Vivo managed to grab the third position in the Indian smartphone market in Q1 2021 with a market share of 18 percent, an increase of two percent compared to the same period last year. It is just behind Samsung and could pose a threat to the South Korean giant’s position in the Indian market. It is also spending heavily in India to boost its brand and in line with that, Vivo has become a title sponsor of IPL.

Another Chinese company OPPO got the fourth position in the Indian market with a 12 percent market share. The company is gearing up to boost its position in India and is reportedly set to launch its own online store next month.

Realme, which started off as a subsidiary of OPPO, is the fifth most-selling smartphone brand in India with an 11 percent market share. The company’s market share slipped from 15 percent a year ago, mainly because of the lagging offline presence.

The Indian smartphone market remains highly volatile and it will be interesting to be seen how the market share of these brands changes in the second quarter as India again imposes lockdown-like restrictions amid surging COVID-19 cases in the country.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 could launch in June without ANC

Late last month, news broke out that Samsung could be soon debuting a new pair of truly wireless earphones called Galaxy Buds2. Now, another report reveals more details about these earbuds along with their price and launch timeline.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Sketch
Samsung Galaxy Buds2 | Source: Yogesh

The new information about the Galaxy Buds2 comes from an emerging tipster – Yogesh. He has partnered with MobileSyrup to bring these details to the public.

According to the leakster, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Buds2 will have a similar design as the Galaxy Buds+. However, the case of these buds will be slightly larger (pictured above). Hence, we can expect even better battery life.

Further, these new pair of truly wireless earphones from the South Korean tech giant will reportedly compete with sub-$100 earbuds. In other words, they could be cheaper than the launch price of Galaxy Buds+.

Unfortunately, these buds will lack ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). Also, they might not have the new 360° audio feature that debuted on the Galaxy Buds Pro.

Lastly, according to Yogesh, the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 could launch in June in pastel color variants. Therefore, we can expect them to match with the new Galaxy A series of smartphones.

According to the previous report, the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 are codenamed ‘berry’ and they will have multi-device connection support. This feature will be compatible with non-Samsung products as well.

Huawei seeks to take control of small Chinese automaker’s electric unit: Report

Huawei Technologies is apparently in talks to take control of the electric unit of a small automaker that is based in China. This would imply that the company is diving deeper into the electric vehicle market.

Huawei

According to a Reuters report, the Chinese tech giant is in talks with Chongqing Sokon to acquire a controlling stake in the automobile maker’s Chongqing Jinkang New Energy Automobile, as per sources close to the matter. In other words, this move will enable the consumer electronics maker and telecom equipment maker to make smart cars that are branded with its own name. Notably, Jinkang counts US electric vehicle producer Seres as its primary asset.

Acquiring controlling stake would also allow Huawei to look beyond just offering more than just self driving softwares and related hardware technology. Meaning, this could also allow the company to have an end to end presence in the electric cars market. Unfortunately, both Huawei and Sokon did not offer any statements regarding this matter. If the news is true, then this would mark a major shift for the company and its business focus in the EV market.

Huawei

For those unaware, the company has primarily been a smartphone, telecom, and consumer electronics manufacturer. But recent US sanctions have crippled its handset unit, while it faces pressures from various governments for its telecom equipment. Thus, the deeper dive in to EV market could signal a shift in its business focus as a whole. One source added that “The supply chain for the auto industry is very long and complicated. Huawei does have its strength in software and platform but its ideas can’t be realized without solid technology improvements in the supply chain.”

Apple iPhone 12 is the most popular model from the series in Q2 2021: CEO

Apple CEO recently revealed that the base iPhone 12 model was the most popular handset from its latest lineup during the second fiscal quarter of this year, while its ‘Pro’ models still see strong demand as well.

Apple

According to an AppleInsider report, chief executive Tim Cook revealed that the iPhone has been in high demand since it first went on sale back in late 2020. While the Cupertino based giant refrained from offering any specific sales figures, it did hint at how customer demand was shared between different models of the 5G enabled iPhone lineup during its second quarter’s earnings call earlier this week. The quarterly revenue for iPhone was 47.9 billion US Dollars, which is a rise of 65.5 percent from the same period last year.

As per the CEO, the iPhone 12 was the most popular model, while the demand for the iPhone 12 Pro and even the iPhone 12 Pro Max remained high as well. On the other hand, the senior official did not mention the iPhone 12 mini. Previously, analysts had also reported that the “Pro” models of the iPhones saw robust sales, especially during the first quarter of this year. A few analysts even believe that the base iPhone 12 could even see a resurgence of demand.

Apple

Notably, Tim Cook refraining from mentioning the iPhone 12 mini is indicative of its lagging performance to its higher end siblings within the series. From the start, the company saw low sales of the smallest iPhone 12 model, with the company even slashing production capacity to make more room for higher end variants. Recently, Apple even launched a new purple color for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini to drive sales.

Samsung retakes smartphone market lead from Apple in Q1 2021: Report

Samsung Electronics has retaken the lead and overtook Apple as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. The former now accounts for more than a fifth of overall global sales during the first quarter of this year.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Series Plus Ultra Featured

According to a Canalys report (Via Reuters), other smartphone OEMs like the Chinese brand Xiaomi has also recorded its best quarterly performance ever. The company’s shipments surged by 62 percent, reaching 49 million units and accounting for 14 percent of the market share. With this, the South Korean tech giant leads the market, with the Cupertino based firm arriving second, and Xiaomi following close behind on third. Meanwhile, the overall global smartphone sales also rose by 27 percent during this period, reaching 347 million units in shipments.

The news also arrives as the Chinese economy opened up after the pandemic while vaccination roll out in the US has raised the hopes of an economic recovery. Furthermore, Samsung shipped 76.5 million smartphones in the first quarter with a market share of 22 percent. This marked a surge of 66 percent in quarterly profit in its smartphone business, which is likely due to strong sales of its latest flagship Galaxy S21 series.

Samsung

During this same period, Apple shipped 52.4 million iPhones with an overall market share of 15 percent. The company saw strong sales due to a positive reception of its 5G enabled iPhone 12 lineup in China. While the overall market saw great performance in Q1 2021, this momentum is expected to slow down in the arriving quarter as ‘supply of critical components, such as chipsets, has quickly become a major concern.’

Black Shark 4 Teardown: Internals easier to take apart than predecessor

The Black Shark 4 has just been spotted in a recent teardown video. The device was taken apart, which revealed key parts and components of the latest gaming smartphone from the brand.

In a new video from JerryRigEverything, we can observe the internals of the device as Zack methodically breaks down the handset. Since it has a plastic rear panel, the gaming smartphone is easier to open, using heat to get past the adhesive. One of the first thing that can be seen after removing the back panel is the shoulder mounted buttons that works through a magnetic mechanism. As the device is a gaming handset, we can also find a heat pipe that helps dissipate heat that seems to be aluminum rather than copper.
