Redmi gaming phone’s new leak reveals 144Hz display, gaming shoulder buttons, and more

Redmi is expected to announce a gaming-focused smartphone powered by the Dimensity 1200 chipset this month. It is believed that the M2104K10C smartphone that was recently approved by the 3C authority of China could be the upcoming gaming phone by Redmi. Sina Finance, a Chinese publication has shared a few key specs of the handset.

The publication revealed that the Redmi gaming phone will be equipped with a Samsung AMOLED E4 display with a centrally positioned punch-hole. The screen will carry support for up to 144Hz refresh rate for an excellent gaming experience. The smartphone is also expected to come with gaming shoulder buttons similar to the Black Shark series phones for an enhanced gaming experience.

The Dimensity 1200 chipset powered phone is expected to carry support for 67W fast charging. Unfortunately, there is no word on the battery capacity of the device. Past reports have suggested that the device could be sporting a quad-camera system with a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary camera. The device may cost around 2,000 Yuan (~$306).

Rumors surrounding the smartphone have revealed that this phone will be also releasing in India. The Indian variant of the phone, which has a model number of M2104K10I was recently certified by the BIS authority. The IMEI listing of M210K410I revealed that it could be hitting the Indian markets with a POCO branding. There is a possibility that this device may break cover as an F-series phone.

In related news, Redmi is gearing up to launch a couple of other phones in China. The Redmi 20X could be coming as a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 10 5G global edition. A rebadged edition of the Redmi Note 10 4G and a new Snapdragon 4-chipset powered 4G phone are also expected to arrive in the home market. It remains to be seen whether these handsets are made official alongside the Dimensity 1200 powered gaming phone.

Top stories from last week: ZTE and Sony announce new flagships, TCL’s new foldable concept phone is lit, Microsoft has a new Surface Laptop, and more

Not a week goes by without at least one product announcement. Last week was packed with the launch of new phones from TCL, Sony, and ZTE as well as a new computer from Microsoft and a few new smartwatches. If you missed out on these announcements, then here is your chance to get up to speed with this recap of the top stories from last week:

LG Wing new price

LG Wing gets a massive price cut in India (and the US)

The LG Wing was the last major device from LG Mobile before it announced its exit from the smartphone business. This dual-screen device which launched for Rs 69,990 (~$940) in India is now available for less than half the price at Rs 29,999 (~$401). In the US, you can grab the phone for $600 (from T-Mobile) which is still a significant cut from its $999 launch price.

If you are wondering if this is a good buy, maybe the fact that there is practically no device like this will convince you. Also, even though it is no longer making phones, LG has promised that it will update the Wing through to Android 13. That is three OS upgrades in total as the phone launched with Android 10 out of the box.

Microsoft Surface 4

Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop 4 comes in blue

If you are a fan of Microsoft’s Surface lineup, then you will like the new Surface Laptop 4. The new notebook is available in two sizes – 13.5 inches and 15-inches – and in Intel and AMD variants. There is also a new blue color that is exclusive to the 13.5-inch model. Microsoft also announced a couple of hardware to enhance your work from experience.

ZTE Axon 30 Pro and Axon 30 Ultra are the latest Chinese flagships

ZTE announced two new flagships last week – the Axon 30 Pro and the Axon 30 Ultra. Both are powered by the Snapdragon 888 processor and run MyOS based on Android 11, and that is pretty much where their similarities end.

The Ultra has a curved display with a 144Hz refresh rate, four rear cameras with three being 64MP sensors, a 4600mAh battery, and support for 66W fast charging. The Pro model has a flat display and drops the refresh rate to 120Hz refresh rate. It also has four rear cameras but only two of them are 64MP sensors and its battery is smaller at 4200mAh and charges slower at 55W.

Sony Xperia 1 III Frosted Black Featured 01

Sony’s new Xperia flagships bring new camera features but no price tags yet

Sony also announced two new flagship phones last week – the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III. The new phones are the first in the industry to have a telephoto camera that can switch between two focal lengths (70mm and 105mm for 2.9x and 4.4x optical zoom). They both have a MicroSD card slot and audio jack, two features you will hardly find on a flagship these days. Sony has also increased the battery capacity and charging speed in both phones when compared to their predecessors.

If you don’t want a flagship, then there is the Xperia 10 III, a Snapdragon 690-powered phone. It has an OLED display like its more powerful siblings but drops the 120Hz high refresh rate for the standard 60Hz. While its battery capacity is the same at 4500mAh, it charges slower at 18W compared to the 30W the other two support.

TCL Fold 'n Roll featured

New TCL 20 phones but the TCL Fold ‘n Roll is the device we want but can’t have

ZTE also announced a leather version of its Watch GT smartwatch.

Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 listed ahead of release

Samsung has a new wireless keyboard that it is yet to officially announce but there is already a listing of the device on its website. Called the Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500, the wireless keyboard is designed to pair with up to three different devices.

Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500

The Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 comes in two colors – Black and White. The former has some of its keys in orange which include three hotkeys for quickly launching select apps and a shortcut key for DeX. There are also three grey keys that are for easy switching between the three connected devices. On the white variant, the orange keys are light blue.

While this is a Bluetooth keyboard that should work with any device that has Bluetooth, some of its features are exclusive to Samsung devices. For example, the hotkey function is exclusive to Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 3.1 with March 2021’s security patch or later. DeX is also only available on select phones and tablets.

The Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 has 78 keys, uses two AAA batteries, and connects via Bluetooth 5.0. It weighs 412.3 grams and measures 280.4 x 127.4 x 15.4 millimeters. While it doesn’t have feet to raise it, the keyboard has an angled design and thus slopes downwards. There are also slip-resistant pads underneath to keep the keyboard in place when in use.

We do not know when Samsung will unveil the keyboard and how much it will cost but Max Jambor of AllAboutSamsung who appears to have first spotted the keyboard thinks it may be an extra accessory for the new Galaxy Book models set for launch on April 28. So maybe Samsung will announce it on that day.

The AOHi MAGCUBE 30W might be the world’s smallest 30W charger

Chargers/wall adapters/power bricks have become significantly smaller these days, thanks to a combination of new technologies and the use of new materials such as Gallium Nitride (GaN). It is not unusual to see a charger that outputs up to 120W and fits in your palm. For those with lower power output, they are even smaller. Take for example the 30W charger below which might as well be the smallest 30W charger in the world.

AOHi MAGCUBE 30W featured

Called the AOHi MAGCUBE 30W, this charger weighs 42 grams and measures 28 x 28 x 32 millimeters. According to the manufacturer, the charger is about the size of Apple’s 5W charger.

The AOHi MAGCUBE 30W has a USB-C port and also has a built-in LED indicator that turns amber when your device is fast charging, switches to blue when it is charging at a standard speed, and turns green when it is trickle charging.

While the charger has a maximum power output of 30W and can charge the iPhone 12 series at 20W, it also supports a variety of charging protocols such as Power Delivery 2.0 and 3.0, PPS, Apple 2.4, BC 1.2, and Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0+. The AOHi MAGCUBE 30W is priced at ¥199 (~$30) and is available for purchase on AOHi’s Tmall store. There is also a special bundle that includes a USB-C to lightning cable for ¥206 (~$32), saving you ¥121 (~$18) if you bought them separately.

Design

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a more sober design since it is a normal phone, while the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has aggressive aesthetics since it is a phone for gamers. The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has several pressure-sensitive zones, two of which are also known as gaming triggers. You do not get this feature with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Further, it has an RGB illumination on the rear side, a side-mounted pop-up camera for streamers and it comes with dedicated gaming accessories. However, if you want the best design and build quality overall, you should go for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. It has a sturdier body, a curved screen with narrower bezels, and it is waterproof with the IP68 certification.

Display

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 offers a display that is very helpful for gamers because it comes with an incredibly high touch sampling rate and a high 144 Hz refresh rate. Further, it has a very wide 6.92-inch panel. But if we exclude the dimensions, the refresh rate, and the touch sampling rate, Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is superior in every aspect. It has a higher Quad HD+ resolution, better color reproduction, and support to HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Further, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra comes with a secondary display on the rear side allowing to use of the rear cameras to shoot selfies.

Specs & Software

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra are powered by the same chipset: the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. It is paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 native storage. Given that the hardware side is the same, the performances these phones can reach are similar. But the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has a more advanced cooling system.

Camera

There is no challenge: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is the best camera phone of this comparison and one of the best camera phones ever. It packs a triple camera with a 50 MP main sensor and a pair of 48 MP cameras for optical zoom (periscopic) and ultrawide shots. On the other hand, Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 boasts a superior front camera (with a 44 MP resolution) that can be used by streamers while playing in landscape mode since it is side-mounted.

Battery

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has a bigger 5500 mAh battery and it can provide a longer battery life, but the difference with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is not huge. The Mi 11 Ultra has a slower 67W fast charging technology, but unlike the Legion Phone Duel 2 (90W), you do not need two cables to reach the fastest charging speeds. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra also supports wireless charging, while its rival does not.

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 and Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra: Price

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 starts from €999/$1200 in the global market, while the starting listing price of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is €1200/$1440. There is no doubt: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is a superior phone. Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ now on sale in South Korea, US rollout delayed

The scheduled rollout of the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ in the United States did not happen on April 16. There is no online availability of the device at various online platforms, including Samsung’s website. However, the Galaxy SmartTag+ has successfully berthed in South Korea, Samsung’s home turf, and is available in two color variants across online stores and platforms. The SmartTag+ is available in black or denim blue colors and sells at KRW 39,600 (about $36) via Samsung’s online store, Samsung Digital Plaza stores across the country, and other online retail outlets.Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+

The trajectory of the SmartTag+’s development was well captured when we had hinted in December 2020 of the SmartTag+ patent and a few weeks back about its scheduled rollout on April 16. The SmartTag+ is an improved version of Samsung’s SmartTag. It uses Bluetooth LE technology and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, making it have a greater range (120m) and a capacity to locate devices outside the Bluetooth range using the UWB technology and the SmartThings Find service on a UWB-enabled phone. The SmartTag+ also uses augmented reality (AR) technology to enhance its ability to pinpoint a missing item’s location more accurately.

The SmartTag+ provides a few solutions, from locating a lost item to tracking a stolen item, with the help of the SmartThings Find service. The tag can be configured to interface with your smart home devices, making it possible to operate the gadgets via your WEB-enabled smartphones. The SmartThings Find service can only be effective in places where there are a sufficiently large number of users of the service to draw from the pooling resources of users in the vicinity of the stolen or missing device.Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+

No information is available yet on the availability in the US market. We still expect that US consumers would get the gadget within a short while, possibly days.

JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector with a 27cm projection distance launched

Chinese projector manufacturer JMGO Thursday held an event where it officially announced a new home projector. The JMGO Smart Wall O1 home projector is a close-range projection device equipped with innovative projection technology developed by JMGO.JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector

The Smart Wall O1 is a brand new category from JMGO Projector and it doesn’t need to be placed very far from the screen in order to achieve a large picture size. Instead, at a distance of just 27 cm from the screen, it can project a picture the size of a traditional projector.JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector

The product adopts a brand-new design with improvements in form and function. In terms of appearance, the JMGO Smart Wall O1 draws inspiration from the arc of the runway, and the color scheme of moonlight silver brings a minimalist design style. It uses ultra-short throw technology and its biggest feature is the fact that it can be projected very close to the wall, and its projection ratio (ratio of projection distance to screen width) is as small as 0.25:1, while the projection ratio of traditional high-end projection is generally 1.2:1. This means that users can place the product 27 cm away from the wall and project an 80-inch screen.JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector

The projector has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It equally has the smallest picture distortion rate and the highest coverage color gamut so far among JMGO’s products. The company says it took their engineers 12 months to achieve a reduction of the projection distance while ensuring that the image quality is not affected as much as possible.JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector

One major advantage of the shortened projection distance is that users do not have to worry about blocking the projector when walking around at home. Also, users don’t have to rearrange the home furniture to achieve a suitable projection distance.

Further, the JMGO Smart Wall O1 is also equipped with a color temperature sensor, which adjusts the color temperature for different colored walls. In terms of the hardware, the Smart Wall O1 is equipped with the MediaTek MT9669 chip, which can realize intelligent noise reduction, support high dynamic range imaging and motion compensation. Thanks to the zero-perception picture speed correction technology, the product can automatically adjust the picture skew caused by the machine placement problem and refocus.JMGO Smart Wall O1 Home projector

For sound, JMGO partnered with Dynaudio, and the speaker is tuned by Dynaudio. The projector is equipped with two 7W speakers. The projector features four customized sound effect modes: standard, movie, event, and music modes.

JMGO also added during the press conference that there is a Smart Wall O1 Pro projector in the works. For that model, the company is teaming up with Leica for joint optimization of the optical and mechanical designs, lens selection, imaging standard formulation, image optimization, and other aspects tailored towards enhancing the picture quality experience.

The JMGO Smart Wall O1 home projector has a starting price of 3899 yuan (~$598). The product will go on sale from April 29 but is already up for pre-orders in China via Jingdong (JD.com).

DxOMark: Xiaomi Mi 11 scores 120 points, ties with the Pixel 5

Four months after its launch, DxOMark has released its camera review of the Mi 11 flagship phone. The first of the Mi 11 series which has a 108MP camera was awarded a score of 120 points, thus tying with several phones such as the Pixel 5. However, this score puts it way behind its sibling, the Mi 11 Ultra, which tops DxOMark’s smartphones list with 143 points.

Mi 11 DxOMark

The breakdown of the overall score shows the Mi 11 score 127 points for photo, 59 points for zoom, and 107 points for video. When compared to the Mi 10T Pro which also has a 108MP triple camera setup, the Mi 10T Pro 5G scores higher in zoom with 61 points and in the video category with 110 points but has a lower photo score of 121 points.

According to the review, the Mi 11 usually exposes properly but sometimes underexposes in some cases which results in clipped shadows. However, these are rarely problems due to the phone’s fairly wide dynamic range.

Mi 11 DxOMark

DxOMark praises the main camera’s highly detailed images, it even earns a new high score of 111 points for texture. The autofocus is not great when compared to some other flagships as it slows down in low light but is fast and accurate when there is sufficient light. The ultrawide camera also does a good job but some of the drawbacks are softness in the corners and color fringing.

The Mi 11 would have scored higher if it had a telephoto camera which would have helped its zoom score but Xiaomi decided to go with a 5MP macro camera instead. The side effect of this is that you begin to lose details when you begin to zoom in.

For portraits, the Mi 11 does a good job with subject separation from the background but the results can sometimes be inconsistent and artifacts often appear in the images which throw off the illusion of a shallow depth of field.

The high-resolution main camera also helps the Mi 11 with its high video score. The noise levels are said to be “impressively low” and there are lots of details when recording in 4K. Unfortunately, it suffers from a drop in color accuracy when recording in low light.

If you want more details, you can read the full review here.

The 1-year old AGM H2 gets a new color variant; company gets a revised logo

AGM is a Chinese brand known for its rugged smartphones. In December 2019 it announced a budget, rugged smartphone called the AGM H2. Now, more than a year later, it has announced a new color variant for the phone.

AGM H2 Premium Black

The AGM H2 comes in a new colorway called Premium Black which ditches the red accents of the original for a more subtle all-black look. The new color variant is available in two configurations. Below are their price tags:

  • 4GB RAM + 64GB = ¥1099 (~$169)
  • 6GB RAM + 128GB = ¥1299 (~$199)

The AGM H2 has a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 1440 x 720. Even with its aspect ratio, the phone still has thick bezels. There is a UNISOC Tiger T310 processor powering it. The chipset, which is the first quad-core LTE chip to use the DynamIQ Architecture, has one Cortex-A75 core and three Cortex-A55 cores in a single cluster.

On the back of the phone is a single 13MP camera while an 8MP sensor sits in front. There is a 4400mAh battery inside it with support for 10W charging. The AGM H2 also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 2.5W speaker. The phone is IP68 certified, has reinforced corners, and a push-to-talk (PTT) button.

New AGM Logo

In related news, AGM has also changed its logo and font. The new logo is still a combination of the alphabets A, G, and M but it drops the flat corners for rounded ones. The box the logo sits in also has rounded corners too. Surprisingly, AGM still uses the old logo on its Weibo page.

All of these phones belong to the mid-range segment and they boast great specifications offered at an amazing price. They are definitely among the best phones in terms of quality-price ratio in the Indian market. Design

The OPPO F19, the F19 Pro, and the F19 Pro+ 5G come with different aesthetics. My favorite one is the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G due to its high screen-to-body ratio, thin and lightweight body, and less invasive camera elements. All the camera elements of the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G are included in the camera module (which makes it more elegant), while the OPPO F19 Pro has a dual LED flash outside the camera module. The vanilla OPPO F19 is a thicker phone and it comes with a lower screen-to-body ratio, that is why I would discard it.

Display

The displays of these three phones come with exactly the same specifications and they are pretty good panels if we consider the price segment. OPPO F19, F19 Pro, and F19 Pro+ 5G boast an AMOLED display with a 6.43-inch diagonal and a Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2400 pixels. Their typical brightness is pretty high with 430 nits, and they can reach up to 800 nits (peak brightness). The phones also come with an in-display fingerprint reader making the authentication more comfortable.

Hardware/Software

The best hardware is provided by the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G. First of all, it is the only 5G phone of the trio and it supports the sub-6 GHz spectrum. Further, its Dimensity 800U is the most powerful one and it is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The OPPO F19 Pro lacks 5G, but its Helio P95 chipset is still an SoC with very good performance in the midrange segment. With the Snapdragon 662, SoC found on the OPPO F19, you can get lower-midrange performance. All the phones run Android 11 out of the box, customized by ColorOS 11.1.

Camera

OPPO F19 Pro and F19 Pro+ 5G have exactly the same rear camera setup. It is composed of a main 48 MP sensor with a bright f/1.7 focal aperture, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a pair of sensors with 2 MP resolutions for macros and depth calculation. Even the front camera is the same with its 16 MP resolution and f/2.4 focal aperture. We are talking about midrange cameras without optical stabilization, but they can provide good photo quality in good light conditions and a decent one even with low light. You get the same cameras with the vanilla OPPO F19 with the exception of the 8 MP ultrawide sensor which is absent on this model.

Battery

If you need the longest battery life, you should go for the OPPO F19. It has a way bigger 5000 mAh battery and, despite the production process of the SoC is worse than the Dimensity 800U found on the OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G (11 nm vs 7 nm), the battery life is way longer in every scenario. On the other hand, the OPPO F19 Pro+ offers faster charging speeds thanks to the SuperVOOC technology with a power of 50W. You get “only” 33W fast charging with the vanilla F19.

OPPO F19 vs OPPO F19 Pro vs OPPO F19 Pro Plus 5G: Price

OPPO F19 starts from about Rs. 18990, OPPO F19 Pro costs Rs. 21490 in its base variant, and OPPO F19 Pro+ starts from Rs. 23,899. The OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G is the natural winner thanks to 5G support, a better chipset, and faster charging speeds. But with the OPPO F19 Pro, you can get a higher value for money, while the OPPO F19 has the longest battery life.

Mercedes-Benz unveils the all-new, sleek 2022 EQS electric vehicle

German carmaker Mercedes has now ventured into the electric vehicle market with the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS. In a launch event held on Thursday, the exquisite Mercedes EV model was showcased with many exciting features to give established electric vehicle manufacturers like Tesla a run for the market. The design of the Mercedes-Benz EQS reflects the company’s track record of luxury and excellence combined with beauty and top-notch technology.Mercedes-Benz EQS

Mercedes-Benz hopes to redefine the EV segment for luxury sedans with the new EQS, which comes with features that can measure with some of Tesla’s premium EVs. The release of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is a bold indication that the German automaker intends to pursue the acquisition of a proportion of the market share in the EV market, as the EQS debuts in the United States next fall. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will be part of the S-Class family.

To underscore the bold intentions of Mercedes-Benz, CEO Ola Kaellenius, in an extensive release document, says that the EQS was designed to exceed the expectations of its teeming customers, and this desire is reflected in all aspects of the EQS, brimming with excellence through and through.

The interior of the 2022 EQS is adorned with gadgets and designed like the cockpit of a spacecraft, with several screens offering operational and entertainment support. The appeal of the futuristic interior of the 2022 EQS is bound to draw enthusiasts for closer scrutiny and even comparison with the overtly simplistic interiors of Tesla’s latest luxury sedans, and this could be a stand-out feature of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS electric vehicle could cost up to $100,000 according to industry watchers who expect the EQS to be more expensive than the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class and also to be marginally more expensive than Tesla’s Model S large sedans.

The 2022 EQS is the first step in Mercedes-Benz’s “Ambition 2039” initiative to get EV versions of more than half the cars it sells by 2039. The car is the first EV running on a new vehicle platform for Mercedes-Benz and features more efficient batteries with significantly higher energy density and a higher range (about 770km) before needing a recharge. The EQS is also packed with several tech, safety, convenience, and entertainment features that places it at par with current EV sedan models.

Tesla remains the industry leader in EV sales in the US and globally, expanding to other markets, including China. Hence Mercedes-Benz has its work cut out for it as it aims to prise the leaderboard position out of Tesla. The level of acceptance of the 2022 EQS in the US market when it arrives in the fall of 2022 will determine how well it has moved.

Lucky UK resident orders a basket of apples online & finds an iPhone SE inside

An online shopper at UK supermarket chain Tesco, Nick James, got a pleasant surprise this week after he made an online purchase of groceries including apples, and got his supplies together with an Apple iPhone. The iPhone is courtesy of an online rewards scheme for customers of the supermarket.iPhone SE

The incidence of misplaced deliveries has gone up since the coronavirus pandemic warranted lockdowns across the world and made shoppers embrace the online shopping model to get their supplies. The rise in online shopping has also brought to the fore the mismatch between what was ordered and what was delivered. An online shopper recently got an iPhone-like work table delivered to him after ordering what he thought was an Apple iPhone.

However, the case of the present shopper, 50-year old Nick James, was not a case of mismatched order but a pleasant surprise from the supermarket franchise. Tesco had randomly selected shoppers for rewards that link with an item they had purchased from the supermarket’s online store. James was gifted with a free iPhone SE, together with his grocery order.

James was highly ecstatic in a tweet linked to him, saying that he was pleasantly surprised by the gift of an iPhone from Tesco when he made some online purchases at the supermarket’s online store. He said his son was also very excited about the gift.

The promotional campaign was targeted at online shoppers across the UK accessing goods from Tesco supermarkets. The marketing campaign is called the Super Substitute scheme and aims at replacing a particular item within a shopper’s cart with a surprise gift for randomly selected customers while the original item will be retained in the cart. It is claimed that Tesco has doled out up to 80 such gifts to its online shoppers across its outlets in the UK.

Xiaomi explains the breakthrough heat dissipation tech onboard the Mi Mix Fold

Xiaomi has given a detailed description of the cutting-edge heat dissipation technology deployed in the design of its latest premium and exquisite offering, the Mi Mix Fold smartphone.

In an article posted on Weibo, the versatile Chinese tech company explained how it finally overcame the heat dissipation challenge highly pronounced in foldable devices. A major problem with foldable smartphones is that the heat dissipation capacity is heavily dependent on the foldability status. It has been seen that the side of the device housing the SoC tends to accumulate more heat.Mi Mix Fold

The Mi Mix Fold has begun sales in the Chinese market from April 16 and costs between 11,000 yuan and 13,000 yuan for the three variants available based on their memory capacity. Xiaomi says the Butterfly heat dissipation mechanism developed for the Mi Mix Fold enables efficient cooling from one side of the device to the other across the hinge mechanism.Mi Mix Fold

The Mi Mix Fold smartphone comes with a raft of cooling mechanisms and heat-resistant materials that combine to make the Mi Mix Fold a masterpiece in the foldable segment. In fact, product testing revealed that the bend-resistant graphite sheet could retain its strength after several hundreds of thousands of 180-degrees bending.Mi Mix Fold

The Mi Mix Fold is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, meaning that it has 5G support. The Snapdragon 888 is among the best high-end chips available. A 6.52″ and 8.01″ external and internal folding display are innovative components of the latest foldable from Xiaomi. The Mi Mix Fold has a 5,020mAh battery, capable of 67W fast charging. It features a camera system that includes a 108MP main camera with a liquid lens, a 13MP ultra-wide cam, and an 8MP telephoto camera.

There is a 5.9-inch Chinese flagship phone coming

If you want a 2021 Android flagship phone with a “small screen”, then the 6.2-inch Samsung Galaxy S21 and the 6.2-inch Meizu 18 are your best bet. There is also the newly announced Sony Xperia 5 III which has a 6.1-inch screen, but it is not yet available for purchase. However, a new leak has revealed that another Chinese manufacturer has a small-screen flagship on the way, one whose screen size is even smaller than the two mentioned above.

The source of the info is Digital Chat Station, the reliable Chinese leaker. In a post made on Weibo yesterday, he revealed that the Meizu 18 has a competitor on the way from another Chinese manufacturer. While he didn’t reveal the name of the brand, he did share the specifications of a prototype.

Chinese small-screen flagship

This unknown phone has a 5.9-inch AMOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. We know it doesn’t measure up to the QHD+ resolution of the Meizu 18 but you get a 120Hz refresh rate. There is no mention of the design of the screen, so we can’t say if it has a punch hole or if it is flat or curved.

There is a Snapdragon 888 processor powering the device and it is paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. He didn’t say how many cameras the phone has but the post revealed that the main rear camera is a 64MP sensor. This phone also has a 4000mAh± battery capacity and supports 65W± fast charging. We expect it to run Android 11 out of the box.

The specs are what we will expect to see in a 2021 flagship but the price and availability are other important factors we need to consider. The Meizu 18 is available for purchase by interested buyers outside China via AliExpress and it starts at $819. You can also grab the Galaxy S21 for a starting price of $799.

The question now is if this new phone will be able to beat them in terms of price.

Redmi 10 series tipped to launch soon in India, Redmi Note 10S India storage, color variants leaked

Redmi Note 10S launched along with other devices globally last month. Now, a report by 91Mobiles says that the Note 10S and the Redmi 10 series are coming to India. Along with this, it has also leaked the storage, color variants of the Redmi Note 10S.

Redmi Note 10S Featured 03

Redmi Note 10S India- Storage, Colors

Xiaomi brought three storage and color variants of the Redmi Note 10S globally and it looks like the same will launch in India as per the report. You can look at them below:

  • Redmi Note 10S India (Leaked)
    • colors– White, Grey, Blue.
    • memory:
      • 6GB + 64GB
      • 6GB + 128GB
      • 8GB + 128GB

The Redmi Note 10S recently appeared on Bluetooth SIG certification with model number M2101K7BI and here the ‘I’ usually means it’s an Indian variant. If the company doesn’t change the variant too much, it will fall somewhere between Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro in India.

Accordingly, you can expect a 6.43-inch sAMOLED FHD+ 60Hz centered punch-hole display, MediaTek Helio G95 chipset, quad rear cameras with 64MP mains, 13MP selfie camera, 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. Globally, the device launched at starting price of $229.

Redmi 10 series India

As per the report, the Redmi 10 number series will launch in India soon. Last year, Xiaomi brought the Redmi 9 Prime to India only after it debuted in China and other global markets. However, the Redmi 10 hasn’t yet been leaked in China so we will have to wait and see if it debuts in India first.

Redmi introduced a new EVOL design with the Redmi Note 10 series and the report says that the Redmi 10 number series could get it. Additionally, we can expect features like FHD+ display, MIUI based on Android 11 OS, and under ₹10,000 price tag for India.

As for the series itself, the report doesn’t reveal any names as such and going by last year’s records, we can only speculate things here.

Last year, Redmi brought close to 5 devices in the Redmi 9 series in India- Redmi 9, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9A, Redmi 9 Power, and Redmi 9i. Out of these, either all or some of them might get successors this year.

It’s also worth noting that Xiaomi or Redmi for that matter hasn’t confirmed anything about this yet so let’s wait for official info on the same.

The upcoming Infinix Note 10 Pro is in the news since February. The smartphone was first certified by FCC with model number X695. The certification revealed some of the features of the device. It was later spotted on Geekbench as well. Late last month, images of the handset’s retail box leaked revealing more specs. Now, renders of this phone expose its design entirely.

An exclusive report by XDA Developers brings us the renders of the forthcoming Infinix Note 10 Pro. The publication has shared three images. Two of these pictures showcase the smartphone’s front. Whereas, the third image reveals the device’s complete design.

According to these renders, the phone will flaunt a centered punch-hole display and a couple of sensors (possibly ambient light sensor, proximity sensor) along with a notification LED on the front. Further, the handset’s rear panel will house a rectangular camera array with five circles.

However, it may only sport a quad-camera setup, as per the retail box leak. One of the additional holes may nest an ambient light sensor like on the Xiaomi Mi 10T series or ‘AI’ branding.

Lastly, talking about the placement of buttons and ports, the power (embedded fingerprint sensor)/volume keys and SIM card slot will be located on the right and the left sides respectively. Whereas, a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, microphone hole, and a speaker grille will be present at the bottom. The top side of the phone will be empty.

As per previous reports, the Ininfix Note 10 Pro will feature a 6.9-inch 90Hz display, MediaTek Helio G95 SoC, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, 64MP primary camera, 16MP selfie camera, XOS 7.6 based on Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 33W fast charging.

There’s no word on this smartphone’s launch date but it could be accompanied by Infinix X693, which is expected to be the regular Infinix Note 10 without the Pro moniker.
