On the Chinese social media website, the Founder praised Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G which is a 5G processor. He stated that the chipset had an impressive CPU, GPU, and AI performance. Alongside this, the senior executive also revealed that the name of the fifth-generation artificial intelligence engine (AIE) used by Qualcomm came from a private dinner between the Founder and Qualcomm’s Product manages at the CES conference last year.

This is yet another example of the strong partnership between the smartphone manufacturer and the chipmaking giant. Historically, the Chinese company’s smartphones have prominently featured Snapdragon processors of every segment in low, mid to even high-end flagship models. Hence, it is not surprising that the Xiaomi Founder played a part in the naming of Qualcomm’s product.

Meizu is launching something on December 13 related to OMA

Today, the company has shared a new teaser image with words “OMA” written over the poster. It also confirms that the launch event for the same will take place in China on 13th December. However, guessing the product getting launched next week is proving to be more difficult this time.

Meizu OMA Poster

It remains a mystery what the three letters “OMA” means. Given that the poster showcases a crowded place in the background, some are claiming that the device is question should have something to do with active noise cancellation. However, others are suggesting that it could be hinting at One Mind Aicy smart stream, enhancing the capabilities of the company’s own smart voice assistant system.

To know for sure what’s up the company’s sleeves this time, we’ll have to wait for the official launch event to take place in China on 13th December. Since there are still few days left for that, we expect the company to share more details about this in the coming days.

Huawei’s ARM-based chips may arrive for desktop PCs soon enough

Recently we’ve seen a resurgence in popularity for Windows on ARM. Microsoft themselves made a big deal about by announcing the Microsoft Surface Pro X running on a Qualcomm ARM chipset. Since then, we’ve only seen more ARM-powered Windows devices appear. The only provider for these chipsets was Qualcomm, but Huawei seems to want in now.

Huawei recently introduced the Kunpeng D920S10 desktop motherboard. What this does is allow Huawei’s Kunpeng 920 processor to power PCs, which increases the likelihood of Huawei launching an ARM PC pretty soon. Technically nothing is set in stone, but there’s no way the company isn’t at least slightly interested in an ARM PC with their own chipset.

The Kunpeng 920 chip is a 7nm ARMv8 processor with a top speed of 2.6 GHz that will be available in quad-core or octa-core varieties (although the server versions of the chip can come with up to 64 CPU cores. Huawei’s D920S10 board will support up to 64GB of DDR-2400 RAM (with four slots for memory) and up to six SATA 3.0 hard drives. It also has two M.2 slots for solid state storage, and three PCIe slots.

While Windows 10 on ARM was initially referred to by Qualcomm as “Windows 10 on Snapdragon,” it is now referred to as “Windows 10 on ARM,” which leaves things open for other chipset manufacturers in the future. Whether Huawei’s ARM-PC actually materializes in the future remains to be seen, though we’d definitely like to see it.

Xiaomi Youpin teases product launch, possible new alarm clock

Earlier today, the Xiaomi Youpin official Weibo announced that it will be launching a new time related product at 10 am on December 11. For the uninitiated, Xiaomi Youpin is the company’s crowdfunding platform, responsible for all the wonderful odd products that get released by them on an almost biweekly basis. Now we’ve got something new coming up.

As we can see from the teaser poster, the new product is probably going to be some sort of clock, possibly an alarm clock. The post mention that the clock supports 16 settings, which they don’t elaborate on. The interesting thing is that Xiaomi already has an alarm clock. It’s one of their most popular products on the crowdfunding platform.

The Xiaomi XiaoAI Smart Alarm Clock, which is possibly one of the most feature-rich alarm clocks in existence, launched in September last year to great reception. It can set 30 separate alarms, use dynamic alarms, broadcast the weather in real time, generate good white noise, setup snooze reminders and even syncs with your phone for reminders.

What we’re getting at here is that the Xiaomi XiaoAI Smart Alarm Clock is an excellent device, so whatever Xiaomi launches will need to improve on it. It’s a high barrier, but it’s also not too hard to imagine an incremental update to the device. We aren’t sure it really warrants a big launch announcement otherwise, so we hope it lives up to the hype.

He said: “As part of the business focus in India for the coming years, OnePlus is building India as a global export hub for the brand and is already manufacturing 5G devices and exporting to overseas markets, such as North America.”

OnePlus and another Chinese smartphone brand Oppo have co-invested to setup a manufacturing facility in the State of Uttar Pradesh’s Noida to produce 5G smartphones. It’s noteworthy that both OnePlus and Oppo are owned by the same parent company — BBK Electronics.

The company’s 5G ambitions are not limited to India as OnePlus is also testing 5G capabilities for carriers in the US and Europe countries at its research and development centre in Hyderabad.

The company forayed in the Indian market in 2014 and since then the company has grown rapidly. The company’s smartphones have been attracting major customer attention and has managed to grab the leading spot in India’s premium smartphone segment, defeating Samsung and Apple.

Huawei President reveals HarmonyOS is coming to smartphones in 2020

HarmonyOS

In Huawei‘s recent conference, Huawei President Dr. Wang Chenglu revealed that starting next year, HarmonyOS will finally be making its long awaited appearance on smartphones. Dr. Wang emphasized that Harmony won’t be replacing Android. On top of that, Android is still Huawei’s preferred OS of choice and remain as the basis for most of their devices.

Other interesting points were also brought up regarding the operating system. HarmonyOS will be marketed internationally instead of just locally in China like before. To further push this fact, he also announced that HarmonyOS would officially be fully open source for the public by August next year, which makes sense considering Huawei’s recent stance.

Not long ago, Joy Tan, Huawei’s senior vice president of public affairs, said in an interview that the HarmonyOS code has fewer lines of code and higher security. Counterpoint Research also claims that HarmonyOS is expected to surpass Linux by the end of 2020 and become the fifth most popular smart digital terminal operating system.

The question now is, will HarmonyOS actually make an appearance on Huawei’s flagship devices, or will it be relegated to side devices? Samsung’s Tizen also saw an appearance on mobile devices, but it was only on the company’s Z-series devices. The operating system seems to hold a lot of potential, so it’d be interesting to see it make an appearance on an important device. Perhaps Huawei can even dual boot it, like was reported before this.

Xiaomi patents a smartphone with an in-display camera setup

Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 flagship smartphone has been in the rumour mills for a long time. When the company was expected to launch the phone, we instead got the Mix Alpha concept device. However, the rumors and leaks about the Mi MIX 4 are still going strong.

The Chinese smartphone maker has filed a new patent which is believed to be for the upcoming Mi MIX 4 smartphone. The patent titled “Dispaly Structure and Electronic Equipment” describes a hidden camera under the phone’s screen that does not take up any space on the display.

Xiaomi In-Display Camera

In the patent, it is shown that the display structure includes a screen and a light adjustment part located on a light emitting side of the display screen. The working state of the dimming component includes a light transmission state and a polarization state. It also includes a first region and a second region that can be independently controlled.

The display also includes multiple independently controllable pixels. In addition, when the first region of the light adjustment component is in a light-transmitting state, pixels corresponding to the first region in the screen are disabled to allow light emitted from the first region to pass through the display screen.

A few months ago, in June this year, the company had shared a small video clip showcasing the company’s new under-display camera technology. It was revealed just moments after Oppo’s video of the exact same tech was shared online.

The video showcased Xiaomi Mi 9 smartphone next to what appears to be a notchless Xiaomi Mi 9. The video shows the lack of a notch, and then continues to showcase that the invisible selfie camera works just fine.

Since the company has been making progress with regards to this under-display or in-display camera technology, we expect to see a smartphone featuring the same tech in the coming months. It is widely believed that the Mi MIX 4 will come with this technology and we’ll have our eyes set for the launch during CES and MWC in the coming months.

Realme’s TWS earbuds to officially launch as Realme Buds Air

A few days ago we reported about the official launch date of Realme’s TWS earbuds.  However, despite all the hype and marketing, we don’t even know the Realme TWS earbuds real name, at least until now. According to known tipster Mukul Sharma, the upcoming Realme TWS earbuds will simply be known as the Realme Buds Air in India.

It’s not a very appealing name, but we suppose calling them the Air Buds would be a bit too close to AirPods for many. We already know that the Realme Buds Air lift a lot from the Cupertino company in design, let’s hope the name doesn’t follow suit. The leaks also show us some technical specifications for the upcoming Realme Buds Air.

First off, we get a better look at design renders for the device, as well as all three colour options. We do like the yellow chosen, but we wish they had a more distinct look. We also learn that the Realme Buds Air get 12mm drivers, which is the standard for this size. There are touch controls on the stems of the Buds Air for controlling music and voice assistant activation.

The Buds Air come with Bluetooth 5.0 on board, as you’d expect from a pair of wireless earbuds. The charged carrying case is also here, and it’s still very reminiscent of a certain fruit company in terms of design. Honestly these leaks seem pretty accurate, though we can’t know for sure until the earbuds actually launch on December 17.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 to launch in India by January 2020; pricing leaked

Xiaomi’s Mi Note 10 smartphone has already been launched in Europe and in China as Mi CC9 Pro. Now, the company is all set to launch the phone, which is the world’s first to feature 108-megapixel camera, in India.

The company had previously teased the arrival of the Mi Note 10 smartphone in the Indian market through a tweet. Now, several reports hint that the device could go official in India pretty soon, by January 2020.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10

Xiaomi is running a global photography competition as per the its terms and conditions, winners will get the Mi Note 10 smartphone worth “Rs 46,832.” It’s not clear whether this is the final India pricing or just a tentative pricing based on the European model.

However, if this turns out to be true, then the Mi Note 10 will be the company’s most expensive smartphone in the Indian market. Since past few years, Xiaomi has been focusing on entry-level and mid-range segment in the Indian market and has stopped selling the premium devices in India.

With the launch of Redmi K20 Pro smartphone in India, it seems that the company is once again testing waters for bringing its premium devices into the market. For this, the Mi Note 10 seems to be a great choice and its success could forge way for upcoming premium flagships from Xiaomi in India.

Apart from the powerful camera setup, the Mi Note 10 comes with a sleek design and powerful specifications, marshalled by Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset. The smartphone comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage.

The smartphone features a 6.47-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a fingerprint reader underneath and a waterdrop notch at the top housing a 32MP selfie camera. The device also comes powered by a massive 5,260mAh battery along with support for 30W fast charging technology.

As for the pricing, the Mi Note 10 series is priced much cheaper in Malaysia than the phone’s pricing in Europe. Thus, we expect the Indian pricing of the Mi Note 10 to be in line with the Malaysian pricing.
