After the recent launch of the Honor 9X, Honor president George Zhao accepted an exclusive interview with some media interviewers. Of the questions asked, one particular question was particularly interesting, where the interviewer asked whether we’d see anymore Max and Note devices in the future. According to George Zhao, it’s definitely possible.
He claims that while the Max and Note devices aren’t exactly their typical type of devices, the market for larger devices like these is also relatively stable. They don’t want to consistently keep releasing larger devices into the market every year however because as stable as the market is, it’s still a fairly limited and niche market. Thus, they’ve been spacing out the launches of big devices to keep things from becoming oversaturated.
He goes on to reassure fans of the Honor Max and Note series that both these lines won’t be cut off anytime soon. The only changes are their update frequency, and there will definitely be device for both product lines in the future. This is actually nice to hear after the recent news of Xiaomi killing off their Mi Max and Mi Note product lines.
What this means for us is that there will probably be a span of at least 1 – 2 years between each Honor Max and Honor Note device, which honestly isn’t too bad. It might actually be a bit refreshing compared to the current climate where devices get replaces mere months after launch. This allows for bigger changes to be made between iterations, and gives better incentive to upgrade to a new model when it eventually launches.

A popular Weibo blogger recently shared an interesting piece of information about Li Nan in the WeChat group. Apparently Meizu has had plans to release a full screen device since 2017, but the idea and product never came to fruition. To this end, we’ve actually got some sketches that show early concepts for a bezeless device from Meizu.
The photo of the design sketch shared by Li Nan was taken on November 12, 2017 in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City. It shows the concept design of three different takes on full screen devices. They’re very rough takes, but they get the idea of a bezeless device across. We also get a thickness of 8mm on these, and a possible price of 3299 yuan.
According to the blogger who broke the news, the device was going to be called the Blue Charm Zero, but the idea was unfortunately cut early. It’s a shame, because according to Li Nan, Meizu had the idea for pop-up cameras long before Vivo, and they simply didn’t act on it. If they had, it’s fully possible the current smartphone landscape could look very different.
Unfortunately, it seems like Meizu’s slowing down steadily recently, and they haven’t got much to show for it. Just a couple of days ago Meizu’s system engineer, Hong Hansheng, left the company, and before that we also had Li Nan leave. As of right now, the company has yet to make any big announcements, though we hope we hear something from them soon.

Peng has further stated that India being second largest market after China for the company, it aims to gain 10 percent market share by next year. The company also wants to offer users with top notch after-sales service.
In May, the US government had imposed trade ban on Huawei which disallowed U.S. companies to work with the Chinese firm. Earlier this month, the ban was lifted with multiple restrictions. Samsung is reportedly working on two smartwatches under its Galaxy lineup — Galaxy Watch 2 with codename Renaissance and Galaxy Watch Active2. While the pictures of the Galaxy Watch Active2 were leaked earlier, now some of the device’s specs and features have surfaced online.
Samsung’s smartwatches have this attractive rotating bezel for navigation but the South Korean giant ditched it with the launch of Galaxy Watch Active earlier this year. But if the latest reports are to be believed, then Samsung will bring a similar feature with its successor — Galaxy Watch Active2.
As per the report from SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 will use a touch sensor around the bezel of the display to simulate that rotating bezel. When the user slides his/her finger around the screen, the software would accept the input just like the physical rotating bezel used to.
Along with this, some specifications of this upcoming wearable device have also leaked online. The report adds that the Galaxy Watch Active2 will come in two models — 44mm and 40mm. The 44mm Active2 will have a 1.4-inch display while the 40mm variant will see a 1.2-inch display. Both the devices will come with 360×360 AMOLED panels with DX+ glass. It also adds that the case will be built to MIL-STD-810G durability standards.
There will be two models based on the connectivity options — Bluetooth and LTE which will apparently have 768MB and 1.5GB of RAM respectively. Also, it will be the company’s first smartwatch to have support for Bluetooth 5.0, which should consume less power along with having improved range.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 will be available in Stainless Steel and Aluminium finishes for both sizes and will come in Black and Silver color options. Also, Pink Gold color will be offered for the 44mm and 40mm in Aluminium while Gold will be available for both sizes in Stainless Steel.

The router is designed for home as well as medium-sized enterprises to provide high-quality broadband access. With Wi-Fi 6 technology, it can achieve up to 4.8 Gbps speeds as it supports 4G and 5G networks.

It comes with dual-height thermal fins and fluid mechanics design, which improves the Huawei 5G CPE Pro’s thermal efficiency by 30 percent, reducing its volume by 45 percent and offers 5G peak performance by 60 percent compared to the previous generation.

In the photos, we see the Mate 30 Pro alongside some other devices. There are actually two units of the phone in the images and both are in a case that hides their rear design but which give us a good look at the screen which is said to be called a “Waterfall Display”.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro live photo
The Mate 30 Pro’s display is curved on both sides so there practically aren’t side bezels. The top of the display is home to a notch – a long but narrow notch that packs the front-facing camera and a bunch of sensors. A previous leak showed the phone’s screen protector and there are a plethora of sensors, some of which should be for a highly secure face identification system.
The images also show the phone has a pretty thin chin which should contribute to a higher screen ratio.
Mate 30 Pro screen protector
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro should launch in October and be the first to be powered by the yet-to-be-announced Kirin 985 processor. It is reported to have a 6.71-inch QHD+ screen which draws power from a 4200mAh battery. It is also said to support 55W fast charging which is much faster than the upcoming Galaxy Note10 Plus’ 45W fast charging.
The Mate 30 Pro will have a quad-camera setup on the rear and will launch alongside a non-pro model. There will also be a Mate 30 Lite which has already been certified by TENAA and should launch soon.

Design
All of these devices feature a full bezel-less design with a pop-up camera on the upper part. So they all have narrow bezels and notch-less displays. But even though it is hard to recognize from the images, there are important differences between the aesthetics of these devices. They are not all built with the same materials. The Redmi K20 looks like the most premium device as it rocks a rear glass as well as an aluminum frame. It is even a more compact device than its opponents, so it fits better in a pocket and it is more comfortable to use with one single hand. Just like the Realme X (and unlike the Honor 9X) it even has an in-display fingerprint reader.
Display
Redmi K20 and Realme X have a more brilliant display as they both come with an AMOLED panel, while the Honor 9X has a classic IPS display. If I had to choose between the Redmi K20 and the Realme X, I would go for the first because it is HDR-compliant, so it is able to show richer and more realistic colors, especially with multimedia content. Note that while Redmi K20 and Realme X have an in-display fingerprint reader, Honor 9X has a side-mounted scanner in order to keep the rear design clean and attractive just like its rivals.
Specs & Software
Here it is a very close fight because the chipsets found on these handsets come with very similar performances. But there is a chipset in this trio which is slightly more powerful than both its rivals: we are talking about the Snapdragon 730 inside the Redmi K20. There is no Qualcomm’s chipset better than this if we exclude the Snapdragon 800 series. And it has a really amazing GPU, so it is very nice at gaming. Further, the Redmi K20 comes in the most powerful memory configuration with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. In each case, there is a customized Android user interface on board.

It may sound weird given that its price tag is similar to the ones of its rivals, but Redmi K20 wins even the camera comparison. It has one more camera than its opponents: a useful ultrawide sensor with a 13 MP resolution. Further, it has a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a main 48 MP Sony sensor which captures a lot of light even in low light conditions. The Redmi K20 even has a higher 20 MP resolution for its selfie snapper.
Battery
The presence of a bigger battery and a smaller AMOLED display lets Honor 9X win even the battery life comparison. In most of the scenarios, it lasts more than both its rivals. But they still come with amazing battery life.
Price
Redmi K20 starts from about €260/$290, Realme X has a €160/$178 base price, and Honor 9X starts from €180/$200. We recommend you to spend a bit more and get a Redmi K20 because it is definitely the most powerful mid-ranger of this trio and it overclasses its opponents in almost every specification.
The OnePlus 5 is over two years old already while the OnePlus 5T still has a few months to go before its 2nd year anniversary. Both phones are scheduled to get the update to Android Q but that will be much later. At the moment, they are getting an update that brings some of the new features that launched with the OnePlus 7 series.
The update arrives as Oxygen OS 9.0.7 and it brings Fnatic Mode and Screen Recorder to both phones. Both of these features came bundled with the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro but OnePlus promised it will be available for older devices. With this new update, you can also record internal system audio with the screen recorder app which wasn’t available if you side-loaded it initially.
The changelog also says the update brings June’s security patch, quick reply in landscape mode and fixed an issue with Speed Dial.
The update is rolling out gradually but you can download the update and install it manually if you do not wish to wait. There is the incremental one which is just 480MB. You also have the full system update that is much larger in size. The download links are available in the source link.
Other features coming to the two phones are DC Dimming and RAM Boost. Hopefully, these will come with the next update.

Being a tech addict is something that most people reading this article would understand. No matter if it is a smartphone, smartwatch or laptop, most of us would love to keep changing devices all the time. The company that mostly drew my interest this year is the established in 2014 XIDU that specializes in researching, developing, manufacturing and selling laptops and tablets. They’ve released several models until now and I went ahead and ordered 2 of the same Series to check out their differences. I’m talking about PhilBook and PhilBook Max. The first is focused on portability and performance whereas the second is more suitable for business office and multitasking.
Similarities
Both models come with the 2in1 convertible design that the Chinese manufacturer is very fond of. The 360° flexible hinge allows you to enjoy four modes: laptop, tablet, stand, and tent. In addition, equipped the multitouch display offers maximum functionality, especially when using the tablet mode. The display on both hosts an IPS FHD panel that offers wide viewing angles. The FHD resolution should be a minimum standard to every laptop out there but unfortunately, some manufacturers use inferior panels to cut costs. Well done XIDU.
I was a bit worried about the available ports and if they could cover my daily needs though, but that worry quickly went away since the basic ports are all there: mini HDMI, USB 2.0/3.0, microphone jack, memory card slot, and Bluetooth 4.0/4.2.
Differences
Now, there are many differences as well. If there weren’t any, the company wouldn’t have a reason to launch a second model, would it? Hence, there are differences concerning color, screen size, processor, and memory. The PhilBook Max, for example, comes with a strong aluminum-alloy body and low weight for its size, unlike its smaller sibling. What’s more, the Space Grey color makes it look more “businessy”.
The PhilBook is powered by an Intel Atom CPU backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage but the PhilBook Max comes with a more powerful, Intel Apollo Lake CPU together with 6GB RAM and 128GB SSD, making it much faster than the budget-friendly PhilBook. What was really cool and useful was the backlit keyboard that helped me work in the dark, just like I like it. Considering that, the PhilBook Max is definitely a better choice but if you are short on budget, the 11.6″ PhilBook may be more appropriate thanks to its more affordable price and not bad performance.
The PhilBook Max currently costs $339.99 on Amazon while the PhilBook $269.99. If you are interested, you can get both on discount using the coupons below.

The Red-crowned Crane is the national bird of China and this limited edition Honor 20 shows that. The phone comes in a blue box with a similar color to the Mi MIX 3 Forbidden City/Palace Museum edition. However, unlike the Mi MIX 3 Forbidden City edition, the Honor 20 inside the box isn’t customized. It is the regular Sapphire Blue variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Inside the gift box are a notebook, a phone case, a power bank, a pen, and a golden crane bookmarker. The notebook, case, and power bank come in the same blue color with the golden crane embossment as the box.
This limited edition is priced at ¥2699 (~$392) and is available for pre-order on Jingdong.com. It will go on sale on the 8th of August.
Honor isn’t the only one with a limited edition phone. The iQOO Neo also has a limited edition that adopts the same design as the Honor 20 Golden Crane edition. Called the iQOO Neo Four Calves edition, it comes in a blue box too with a customized power bank, phone case, bull-head phone stand, and fridge magnet. There is also a carbon black iQOO Neo with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The iQOO Neo Four Calves edition is priced at ¥1998 (~$290). It is available for pre-order on JD.com and will also go on sale on the 8th of August.
Huawei‘s pop-up camera-totting mid-range smartphone dubbed Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 has already gone official is some markets and was recently teased by Amazon India as “coming soon” with no specific release date. Amazon India has now gone specific with the release date. In a recent teaser poster, Amazon hints the phone will be launched in India on August 1 which is next week Thursday.
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 has as its major highlight a pop-up selfie camera and a triple rear camera setup. The device equally packs an expansive 6.59-inch LCD display with tiny bezels on all sides due to the absence of a stationary front camera. The pop-up camera design also ensures the device doesn’t have the notch which most of us hate so much.
At the rear, you’ll find a triple camera setup aligned vertically at the top left corner. Two of the sensors are housed in one module while the third sensor sits on its own module. The camera is teased to have AI feature, obviously for better performance. The device also packs a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The device will be powered by a Kirin 710 chipset paired with 4 GB RAM with 128GB of storage.
In addition, you get a 4000mAh battery with USB-C port for faster charging. The phone will be available in Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue colours. We’ll have to wait until the release date to find out the price in India. Don’t expect it to be under $200, though.
Huawei first announced its latest EMUI 9.1 update back in April. Since then, a total of 27 Huawei models have received the public beta update of the features-packed ROM, with the latest batch getting the update a couple of days back. With the rate at which updates were rolling out, we suspected it was just a matter of days before the stable ROM gets released. Indeed, Huawei is now set to push EMUI 9.1 Stable version to 10 models. The models consist of seven Huawei models and three Honor phones.
The affected models include; Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design, Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design, Huawei P20, Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei nova 3, Honor 10, Honor V10, and Honor Play. The update is expected to be for the China version since the announcement comes from Weibo. We expect Huawei to push the update for the global version in no distant time.
Huawei’s EMUI 9.1 is based on Android 9.0 Pie and adopts a minimalist design, thanks to Android 9.0’s deep customization optimization. This version also brings improvements in wallpapers, themes and icons. There are also several improvements to the overall user apps which makes it easier to use the UI. There are also improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) features covering various aspects such as health, office, entertainment, travel and more.
EMUI 9.1 also comes with GPU Turbo 3.0 an upgrade to the GPU Turbo graphics acceleration technology. The feature adds support for 51 domestic games in addition to the already supported 60 domestic games, bringing a low-power full-frame gaming experience. Furthermore, EMUI 9.1 brings improvements to Huawei’s voice assistant as well as smart dual 4G SIM card switching, automatically switching SIM cards based on the one with the best internet coverage. It also comes with EROFS (Extendable Read-Only File System) that should increase read speed by 20% and save about 2 GB of system storage.
