Realme is entering China, Weibo page goes live

By

Apr 23, 2019

Realme made its debut last year as a sub-brand of Oppo. However, within a couple of months, Realme split from its parent company Oppo to become an independent brand. The company was launched with a focus on the Indian market but has expanded its presence to other regions as well.

However, Realme has stayed away from the world’s biggest smartphone market — China. But that is about to change as it seems that the company is all set to enter the Chinese market. In fact, the brand’s Weibo page also gone live.

The Weibo page of the Realme doesn’t reveal anything regarding its plan in China but the fact that the page is already live suggests that the launch of Realme in China is about to happen very soon. The company is also expected to enter the Middle East and the Europen market by the end of this year.

Currently, the Realme brand has a presence in seven countries which includes India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, and the Philippines. Realme has now started listing China and Taiwan on its website.

Thanks to the value-for-money smartphones from the company, it has managed to achieve an unpretending success in the Indian market. In just about one year of its launch, the company has grabbed 8 percent of the smartphone market share in India.

While it’s still far behind its major competitor Redmi in India, Realme has been rapidly growing in the market and its device offerings also pose as a major threat to the Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup in India as well as budget phones from other brands.

Although the company has not officially confirmed anything, it seems that the Realme 3 Pro could be among the first smartphones to be available in China when the brand officially announces its entry in the world’s largest smartphone market.

Realme 3 Pro is the company’s latest smartphone which comes with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ waterdrop notch display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 AIE processor with up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

The phone features a 16 MP + 5 MP dual rear camera setup and a 25 MP front-facing AI-powered snapper. It runs Android 9 Pie-based ColorOS 6 and is powered by a 4045mAh battery with VOOC 25W fast charging support.

Huawei announces 5G roadmap, Huawei Mate X confirmed to launch in June

By

Apr 23, 2019

At the Huawei Global Analyst Conference, the China-based giant has announced its 5G roadmap. As per the company’s plans, the Huawei Mate X — the company’s first foldable as well as first 5G smartphone, will be launched in June this year.

The report further states that the China-based company also has plans to launch another 5G smartphone in October this year. This could be Huawei’s third 5G smartphone after the Mate X and Mate 20 X 5G that was recently announced.

The news about Mate X launching in June this year, as it was previously confirmed, comes at a time when the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold has been postponed because of issues related to the phone’s display.

Further, the company says that the first Huawei wireless CPE will be launched around June this year, and will be followed by the launch of a mobile Wi-Fi router later this year. There’s a possibility that the upcoming Mate 30 series and Nova series could also have 5G compatible smartphone models.

The development about the 5G roadmap comes just a day after Huawei announced its financials for the Q1 2019. It reported that the financials of the first quarter of this year stands at 179.7 billion yuan, which represents a 39 percent year-on-year growth.

Further, the company has revealed that it managed to ship 59 million units of its smartphones in the first quarter that ended in March 2019. This is a significant development given that Huawei has set the target of shipping over 250 million smartphones this year.

Samsung officially announces the postponement of Galaxy Fold release

By

Jed John Ikoba

-

Apr 23, 2019

There were reports, which could pass for rumours, that Samsung had postponed the proposed Galaxy Fold China launch scheduled to hold on April 26 due to issues with the display. Samsung has now officially released a press statement intimating that the Fold’s release has been postponed indefinitely.

Recall that the Galaxy Fold was released last week to reviewers andthe feedbacks were all not so good. A couple of the units were damaged due to some sort of defective displays. A few of the reviewers damaged theirwhen they attempted removing the protective film on the display, which was easily confused with a disposable screen protector pre-installed on many smartphones nowadays.

Here’s the full statement from the Korean tech giant below:

“We recently unveiled a completely new mobile category: a smartphone using multiple new technologies and materials to create a display that is flexible enough to fold. We are encouraged by the excitement around the Galaxy Fold.

While many reviewers shared with us the vast potential they see, some also showed us how the device needs further improvements that could ensure the best possible user experience.

To fully evaluate this feedback and run further internal tests, we have decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold. We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks.

Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance.

We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.

We value the trust our customers place in us and they are always our top priority. Samsung is committed to working closely with customers and partners to move the industry forward. We want to thank them for their patience and understanding.

Samsung will take the same to properly ensure that users understand that the protective display layer is not to be removed from the screen. At the same time, it will figure out how to strengthen the display’s protection.“

Xiaomi is keeping true to its plans to expand further in Europe. The Chinese tech giant has reportedly opened its first Mi Store in Romania. The Mi Store is located at Mega Mall in Bucharest, the country’s capital and the grand opening was greeted with pomp as lots of Mi Fans trooped out to check out the products on display.

The store is well stocked with Xiaomi products ranging from smartphones to headsets, electric scooters, and home appliances. The products were offered at amazing discounts, especially for the early birds. For instance, the first 50 buyers had the opportunity to buy the Mi Mix 3 for RON 2,199 (€460) or the Mi M365 electric scooter for RON 1,799 (€380) and even the Mi 8 Pro for RON 2,099 (€440). There are also special offers on the available products until May 5.

With this new store, we are gradually losing track of countries where Xiaomi officially sells. The tech giant has Mi Stores in Italy, Spain, France, the UK, Germany, Russia, etc. We expect more stores in newer clime to follow in the coming days. We must point out though, that the products that are available on the Mi Store far surpass our expectations. The products extend beyond smartphones, smartwatches to other smart home gadgets, electric bikes etc.

Xiaomi has launched the Populele 2 Smart Ukulele. The musical device is a successor to the Populele smart Ukulele that was first launched in February 2017 under the MIJIA crowdfunding platform. The product was well received with almost six times more than the set goal achieved and this may have spurred XIaomi to develop an improved version.

The Populele 2 comes with a more streamlined design which looks modernized and sort f digital rather than like the traditional Ukulele. The first-gen Populele was made from Indonesian rosewood with imported nylon strings. This time around, the Populele 2 Smart Ukulele’s bod is made using high-purity T700 carbon fiber composite material, supplemented with ASA resin, to reconstruct the body process. The body is 360-degree arc rounded and comes in two stylish colour options; Matt Black and White.

This model comes with similar features as the first-gen model and more. It comes with Bluetooth which can be used to interact with the smart “Music CP” app on a smartphone. The app shows the chord that is struck and actually records the same for future reference. It also provides a quide to take beginners through the steps of learning to play the Ukulele.

The app provides video demonstrations for tasks such as fingering, chord progression. It comes with seven pop songs that can easily be learnt in a matter of days. There is also a metronome counter that moves at a rhythm that the player can catch up with learning a new song. If there are persistent errors, the counter slows down the tempo of the song. The training guide is said to have been developed in conjunction with the Berklee College of Music.

The new Populele 2 Smart Ukulele comes with a 599 yuan price tag ($89).
