Alleged Vivo NEX 2 revealed in new video once again

Vivo NEX that was announced in June was an astonishing flagship phone that offered a very high screen space through its large-sized notch-less display. It also came with some advanced features like in-display fingerprint reader, screen sound casting technology and pop-up selfie shooter. The company now seems to be prepping up to astound the tech world by launching yet another flagship phone with advanced features. It is speculated to arrive as a new Vivo NEX series smartphone from the company. However, there is no confirmation on whether it will be called Vivo NEX 2. The handset has been recently teased in an unboxing video. Today, a Chinese video blogger has shared a new video which teases the alleged NEX 2 smartphone once again. Here is the video:

The alleged Vivo NEX 2 shows that it is equipped an in-screen fingerprint reader. The phone also features a triple camera setup on the rear, but it is not clearly shown in the video. It is speculated that the third sensor could be a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor for 3D sensing. The major attraction of the phone is that it equipped with a secondary display on its rear panel.

The RGB-lit Lunar Ring that is placed on the rear side of the phone is also visible in the video. The vlogger has done his best to reveal some of the key features of the phone while keeping it secret.

Popular designer and industry expert had recently shared the following renders of the alleged Vivo NEX 2 smartphone. The front view of the phone reveals that it does not feature a selfie camera. Hence, the smartphone is equipped with a large-sized display that seems to offer more than 95 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The renders show that the secondary display of the phone is smaller compared to the main screen on the front. The Vivo brand name is placed on the bezel below the secondary screen. The RGB-lit Lunar Ring, an LED flash and camera sensors are placed above the display.

The smartphone is speculated to go official in December. If the rumor is true, Vivo may start teasing the phone’s features and eventually confirm its launch date in coming weeks.

Apple removes another 700+ apps from its Chinese App Store

China is the biggest smartphone market in the world bar none. However, it is also one of the most aggressively competitive marketplaces where even the likes of Apple are marginally small players. But Apple cannot afford to overlook the market, even if it means low hardware sales for the company. That’s because Apple rakes in huge cash through its App Store sales each year from China. The Cupertino giant, however, has to keep a tight vigil on its online marketplace as China also happens to be the place where a lot of security is needed when it comes to these online app stores. Fresh information is that Apple has removed as many as 700 applications from the store earlier this week.

As regards to why these apps were removed, it is said that they were in violation of Apple’s rules regarding app updates. According to laid out guidelines, any updates have to go through an iOS App Store so Apple can verify the integrity and safety of the new versions being rolled out to the public. It appears as these apps have violated that condition as they must have rolled out updates without getting it passed through the App Store. Now, this isn’t anything new in China but Apple wants to curb the habit and thus the big purge wiped out 700+ apps from the huge online marketplace.

None of these excluded apps belonged to a single category. In fact, some of these apps were also big and popular like the ones owned by search giant Sogou and e-commerce platform Pinduoduo. The current development happens after Apple ran a massive clean-up program a few months ago to take action illegal gambling platforms on its App Store.

Nubia Red Magic Mars vs Xiaomi Black Shark Helo vs Asus ROG Phone: Gaming Phones Comparison

Even though it is not one of the most important companies in the global market, Nubia keeps releasing innovative phones every year. After the incredible Nubia X with two displays, the Chinese company released the successor of its first gaming phone: Nubia Red Magic Mars. As it is meant for gamers, it features flagship-class performance and gaming-centric features, but it is offered at a very modest price. Here, we compare it with the latest phones from its category: the new Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and Asus ROG Phone.

Design

What makes Red Magic Mars’ design wonderful is the RGB strip on the back side and the fact that it is offered in a very attractive camouflage edition with a fingerprint-resistant coating. Xiaomi Black Shark Helo is attractive as well with its LED strips at the sides, and Asus ROG Phone is another great device with a very original gaming-centric device. I would Asus ROG Phone because of its touch area on the rear side (with three ultrasonic pressure sensitive zones) and because it is water-resistant.

Display

Asus ROG Phone has the best display because it provides a better color accuracy and a higher refresh rate. It supports up to 108.6 percent DCI-P3 coverage, 90 Hz refresh rate with 1 ms response time, and the AMOLED and HDR technologies. Xiaomi Black Shark Helo takes the second place with its AMOLED panel with 100 percent DCI-P3 gamut.

Specs & Software

These handsets are very close in terms of performance, so it is essentially a draw. They all feature the octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm running at a max frequency of 2.8 GHz, but on the Asus ROG Phone it is overclocked and it reaches 2.95 GHz. On the other hand, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and Nubia Red Magic Mars were launched in a configuration with 10 GB of RAM.

Camera

You should not choose one of these phones if you want the best camera performance, but they are not bad at shooting photos. The most convincing one overall is the Xiaomi Black Shark Helo with its rear 12 + 20 MP f/1.8 dual camera and its 20 MP selfie camera, but Asus ROG Phone’s rear camera is more or less at the same level and unlike the Xiaomi’s flagship it features OIS and a wide angle lens.

Battery

Asus ROG Phone and Xiaomi Black Shark Helo have the same battery capacity: 4000 mAh. Both can provide an above-average battery life, but at the end of the day, Xiaomi Black Shark Helo lasts a bit more (about 25 percent of remaining charge at the end of the evening). Nubia Red Magic Mars has a smaller 3800 mAh unit but we are yet to see how it is optimized as the phone is still not on the shelves.

Price

Asus ROG Phone is the best gaming phone of this trio because it has a better display, stereo speakers and a lot of additional accessories to connect to its secondary USB-C port, which are very interesting features for gaming. But it costs a lot more than its opponents. That is why Xiaomi Black Shark Helo has the best value for money. Asus ROG Phone costs about €900/$1023, while the launch prices of Xiaomi Black Shark Helo and Nubia Red Magic Mars are about €450/$511 and €420/$477, respectively.

Vivo 1814 images surface as its bags NCC certification

Vivo could be planning to launch a new entry-level smartphone in Taiwan. The reason behind it is that an unidentified Vivo 1814 has been approved by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) authority. The NCC certification of the Vivo 1814 hasn’t revealed any details on the specs of the phone. However, the entire design of the phone has been revealed since its images have been found in NCC documents.

Vivo-1814-Rear

The Vivo 1814 features a plastic rear. Apart from the red model seen in the NCC documents, the smartphone could be also available in some other colors. The top-left corner of the back panel of the Vivo 1814 features a vertically arranged dual camera setup. A fingerprint reader is also slotted on the rear shell.

Vivo-1814-NCC

Vivo-1814-connectivity

The SIM card tray is placed on the right side of the Vivo 1814 whereas the buttons for volume and power are on the right. The top edge of the smartphone is barren while a speaker grille, a microUSB 2.0 port and 3.5mm headphone slot. The frontside of the Vivo 1814 features a waterdrop notch.

Vivo-1814-front

The Vivo 1814 could be confused with Vivo V1814A that was launched as Vivo X21s in China and Vivo V1814T that was announced as Vivo V11 Pro in India. Both the phones feature in-screen fingerprint scanner. However, the images of the Vivo 1814 show that it is an entry-level phone. Moreover, a shot of the 5V/1A charger suggests that it will be a low budget device. Hence, the newly spotted Vivo 1814 seems to be a different device than Vivo V1814A and Vivo V1814T.

Vivo-1814-charger

Apart from NCC, the Vivo 1814 has been also approved by Malaysia’s SIRIM and Europe’s Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and Indonesia’s TKDN bodies which indicates that it will be released in multiple markets. The specifications of the Vivo 1814 are still under the wraps. Probably, the handset may go official as a Y-series smartphone before the end of the year.

It also has the feature of capturing video clips of any object within its field of view as soon as motion is detected within 3 meters outside the door. Notification is sent to the owner’s smartphone when that happens. We believe this feature can be turned on and off so as not to constitute a nuisance. However, it utilises Xiaomi’s XiaoAI face recognition technology and so can accurately identify family members and strangers, and distinguish them in the notification. You can know who is behind the door without looking at the picture.

The smart doorbell can even be controlled from wherever you are if you left your child at home alone. In that case, you can take over the video conversation with the visitor outside the door and you can also set the Xiao AI speaker to sound the doorbell message, reminding the child not to open the door to strangers. The smart doorbell also comes with a feature known as “SafeSound” which when turned on, can change the child’s voice to that of an adult when he or she is responding to the doorbell.

Furthermore, the Xiaomi Zero Smart Doorbell is power efficient and runs on four AA batteries which can last up to six months. This is possible because the device enters sleep mode when not in use and wakes up as soon as the bell is triggered. When the doorbell is triggered, the doorbell quickly starts shooting and completes the video upload, and quickly enters the low power mode.
