OnePlus Android 16 (OxygenOS 16) update: release date, eligible devices, and everything you need to know

OnePlus Android 16 OxygenOS 16 update

OxygenOS 16 is shaping up to be a major upgrade, bringing UI refinements, useful features, and improvements across the operating system. The update will also bring several new features and enhancements directly from Google’s Android 16. The latest upgrade is already live for Google Pixels, and should start rolling out to OnePlus phones very soon. This time, it’s arriving a lot earlier, and that’s because of a quick turnaround time from Google, releasing Android 16 in June 2025.

Whether you own a flagship OnePlus phone, a mid-range Nord device, or a more budget-friendly Nord CE or Nord N model, you’re likely looking forward to the next version of Android. Here’s everything we know about OxygenOS 16.

When will OnePlus release Android 16 (OxygenOS 16)?

OnePlus has been a reliable brand when it comes to software updates, and it’s usually one of the fastest to release new versions of Android. For OxygenOS 16, the brand hasn’t announced a release date yet, but if past rollouts are anything to go by, the rollout should kick off in the coming weeks.

OnePlus kicked off the Android 16 beta in April 2025, meaning testing has been underway for several months. That’s another solid indication the stable rollout is just around the corner. We anticipate an official announcement very soon.

OnePlus devices that are eligible for OxygenOS 16 (Android 16) update

The brand hasn’t confirmed which devices are going to get the Android 16 update, but we have a very solid idea about that, thanks to a transparent update policy. Based on that, we have prepared the following list.

OnePlus flagship phones

  • OnePlus 13
  • OnePlus 13s
  • OnePlus 13R
  • OnePlus 13T
  • OnePlus 12
  • OnePlus 12R
  • OnePlus 11
  • OnePlus 11R

OnePlus Nord series

  • OnePlus Nord 4
  • OnePlus Nord 3
  • OnePlus Nord CE 4
  • OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite

OnePlus foldables and tablets

  • OnePlus Open
  • OnePlus Pad
  • OnePlus Pad 2

This list is based on OnePlus’ update policy and should be fairly accurate. That said, we still recommend waiting for the official confirmation, which we’ll update here as well as soon as it’s available.

What to expect from OxygenOS 16 and Android 16?

OnePlus has already released several Android 16 betas, giving us a good preview of the upcoming features and changes. Starting with the lock screen, notifications now stack with an app-icon preview and count indicator. This works with both classic and split modes. The update introduces six new clock designs (previously two) in the Shelf section to further customize the lock screen and home screen.

The Quick Settings panel also gets some nice visual changes. It shows text labels for many icons, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and media control. When you tap the “+” button, the screen displays available tiles organized by categories, making them easier to find.

The battery charging limit is now more customizable, allowing users to set a cap at 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, or 100%. Previously, you could only set it to 80%. There’s also a new AI VoiceScribe feature, which lets users enable captions, create a summary, or record VoIP calls in apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and more.

The app drawer no longer displays texts such as “All apps” and “Manage”; instead, a new three-dot icon has been added in the upper-right side with Select and Sort options. The Select option allows users to select apps to uninstall or add to the home screen. The Sort option allows users to sort apps by name, usage, and installation time.

The Android 16 update also adds support for predictive back gestures, but currently, it only works with several Settings pages (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Settings & Privacy). We might see a system-wide integration in the final build. There are a few additional changes to the Settings app, including a colorful preview for the Home screen and thicker sliders for volume controls.

We also spotted a new game dashboard in the beta versions, which is quite similar to the one on ColorOS, featuring options such as Power Saving, Balance, Pro Gamer, adjustable refresh rate, and more. However, we are not sure if this will be included in the final version of OxygenOS 16.

OxygenOS 16 is still under active development, and more features could be added to the final release. We’ll continue to track all changes related to Android 16 and OxygenOS 16 and keep you updated. Be sure to check out our Android 16 section for the latest news and updates.

Galaxy S25 FE enters software testing—but will it live up to expectations?

Samsung’s next Fan Edition phone is one step closer to launch. The Galaxy S25 FE has entered the software testing phase, hinting that an official debut isn’t too far off. But while the FE lineup has always aimed to bring flagship features at a lower price, early leaks paint a mixed picture this time around.

Spotted on Samsung’s firmware servers, the S25 FE (model number SM-S731B) is now being tested with firmware version S731BXXU0AYFB, according to @Alfaturk16 on X. The device is expected to run Android 16 with One UI 8, in line with the Galaxy S25 series, and include newer software features like adaptive lock screen clocks and enhanced Galaxy AI tools.

There’s no confirmed launch date yet, but based on the S24 FE’s release timeline—unveiled in September and sold in October—there’s a good chance we’ll see the S25 FE hit shelves in late 2025, possibly October.

However, the hardware story is a bit more complicated. Rumors suggest Samsung may reuse the Exynos 2400e chip from the S24 FE rather than upgrading to the Exynos 2500 found in the Galaxy Z Flip7.

Still, it’s not all bad news. The front camera may get a bump to 12MP, up from 10MP, and the rear camera setup is expected to include a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto lens—according to 91mobiles. Some fan-made renders also show thinner bezels surrounding the phone’s 6.7-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, though it’s too early to confirm how accurate those images are.

Battery-wise, the phone may stick with a 4,700mAh cell and 25W charging, which is unchanged from the previous FE model. That suggests Samsung may be focusing more on refinements and software improvements rather than major spec leaps. In fact, the upcoming S Ultra flagship is rumored to retain the 5,000mAh capacity in favor of a slimmer form factor.

NxtQuantum OS goes official as India’s own mobile platform

NxtQuantum Shift Technologies has announced the launch of NxtQuantum OS, a new mobile operating system built entirely in India. Shared officially by the company, the OS aims to deliver a secure, transparent, and privacy-oriented experience for users in both public and private sectors. The AI+ Nova 5G and Pulse smartphones, which are set to debut on July 8, will be the first phones to come preloaded with NxtQuantum OS.

NxtQuantum OS: A made-in-India OS focused on privacy and control

NxtQuantum OS

Developed from scratch within India, NxtQuantum OS is engineered to give users full control over their data. It stores all personal information—preferences, history, backups—on MeitY-approved Google Cloud servers located in India. With no third-party access or foreign routing, it adopts a consent-first approach backed by Google Cloud’s zero-trust security model.

The operating system is built to serve a diverse audience, from individuals to institutions and government departments. According to Madhav Sheth, Founder and CEO of NxtQuantum Shift Technologies, the OS represents a move toward digital independence, where privacy is not a toggle but a core value. Sheth adds that the system architecture ensures even the developers have no access to user data.

The OS features locally trained AI engines that enable smart, context-aware functionalities while maintaining data privacy. A custom-designed interface further enhances transparency and user control. With compliance to Indian regulations integrated by design, it’s ready to support sectors like education, defence, and public services.

A dedicated India Design Centre now manages the full lifecycle of the software—from updates to patches—without leaving Indian soil. The first AI-powered smartphones running NxtQuantum OS, named Nova 5G and Pulse, will be introduced on Flipkart, marking the beginning of a new, privacy-first mobile experience.

Samsung achieves higher energy density; but S26 Ultra opts for thinner design instead of bigger battery

Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, is already making headlines ahead of its expected January 2026 launch—and not all the news will please fans.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra mockup (modified image of S25 Ultra)
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra mockup (modified image of S25 Ultra)

Samsung has reportedly achieved higher energy density with the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s battery, which essentially means one of two things: either a larger battery can fit in the same space, or the same capacity can be housed in a smaller volume. While many users may hope for the former, the leak suggests Samsung is opting for the latter—prioritizing a thinner design instead.

Tipster @UniverseIce claims the S26 Ultra will once again feature a 5,000mAh battery—unchanged from every Ultra model since the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020.

Why isn’t Samsung upgrading the battery capacity? Safety plays a role? Samsung has more than just the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco to remember. Here are a few recent incidents worth noting. The South Korean giant now seems especially cautious with battery chemistry.

However, there is a silver lining. According to the tipster, the change allows Samsung to shave down the phone’s overall thickness—potentially following the design language of the Galaxy S26 Edge.

Charging speeds are also reportedly getting a significant bump. @UniverseIce suggests Samsung is introducing upgraded thermal management, possibly raising the charging speed to 65W—up from 45W on the S25 Ultra. If true, that could mean a significant reduction in the downtime.

Other expected features include Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. Unfortunately, the camera setup is rumored to remain mostly unchanged until 2028.

While battery capacity purists might be disappointed, Samsung’s focus on a thinner build and faster charging could still make the Galaxy S26 Ultra a compelling upgrade.

Samsung quietly leaks its first tri-fold in One UI 8 animations

Samsung may have accidentally given the world an early look at its upcoming tri-fold phone through its latest One UI 8 software. According to a report from Android Authority, new animation files embedded in the software update depict a multi-panel foldable device that doesn’t resemble any of Samsung’s current foldable.

The device in question appears to fold in a G-shape, with two inward-folding hinges. It’s shown in multiple animations, suggesting a three-part design: the left panel houses a triple-camera module; the middle section includes what looks like an external display and a front-facing camera; and the rightmost segment appears to be a blank panel, likely used to close the fold rather than serve any display function.

Samsung’s tri-fold folds unlike Huawei counterpart

Based on this layout, the phone folds like Samsung Display’s earlier “Flex G” prototype, with both hinges closing inward, unlike Huawei’s S-shaped foldable, which uses both inward and outward hinges.

The asymmetry of hinge sizes is more visible in darker versions of the animation. This difference may be deliberate, possibly to reduce strain on the screen when folded.

One of the included warning animations even suggests the user should avoid folding the camera-side panel first, implying a delicate balance in the folding mechanism.

Interestingly, Samsung refers to the fold as “Multifold 7” in the One UI 8 build. It’s likely a placeholder or internal code name as the retail unit is expected to go by the “Galaxy G Fold” moniker.

There’s been no official confirmation from Samsung on the existence of this device, beyond a teaser at a previous Unpacked event. And with the next major launch just around the corner — expected to feature the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the Flip FE — it’s unclear whether this tri-fold design will make a full appearance or stay behind the curtain for now.

Even so, these One UI animations give the strongest hint yet that Samsung’s multi-fold ambitions are more than just concept demos.

Trump’s Vietnam tariff deal softens the blow for Samsung fans—for now

Samsung fans in the US can breathe a little easier—at least for now. A looming tariff that threatened to drive up the price of Galaxy phones has been scaled back, thanks to a new trade deal between the US and Vietnam. While the outcome isn’t perfect, it’s a big relief for anyone eyeing Samsung’s upcoming releases.

Galaxy S25 Ultra with S Pen
Galaxy S25 Ultra with S Pen

Back in April 2025, former President Trump announced a steep 46% tariff on goods imported from Vietnam, where Samsung manufactures the bulk of its smartphones and tablets—including the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the soon-to-launch Z Fold7. The proposed tariff raised alarms, as it would have left Samsung with two costly options: absorb the financial hit or pass it on to consumers through higher prices.

A 90-day pause in the tariff rollout gave both countries time to negotiate. The result? A new deal that lowers the tariff to 20%. It’s still a sizable bump, but far less damaging than the original plan. For consumers, this likely means Galaxy devices will avoid major price hikes—at least for now.

Samsung, preparing for the worst, had started exploring alternatives, including shifting production to India, where tariff rates were initially lower. While India’s own trade terms with the US are still being hammered out, the option remains on the table.

However, moving production is easier said than done. Samsung’s operations in Vietnam are massive, with factories reportedly churning out 120 million devices a year. These plants are deeply integrated into the company’s global supply chain, making relocation a costly and complex process.

Adding to the uncertainty is the lingering threat of a blanket 25% tariff on all foreign-made smartphones—a move that would hit not just Samsung, but also Apple. For now, analysts say that’s unlikely, given the lack of large-scale phone manufacturing in the US.

Even with the 20% tariff, there may still be slight price increases—possibly $100 to $200 for some premium models. But Samsung is already working to cushion the blow, with strategies like using in-house Exynos chips to keep costs down.

Galaxy Z Flip7’s stylish cases leak ahead of Unpacked event

With just days to go before Samsung’s big Unpacked event on July 9, new leaks are giving us a closer look at what to expect—this time, it’s all about the accessories. Fresh renders show off official cases for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7, offering a mix of style and function designed to match the phone’s slim, foldable form.

Shared by Android Headlines and leaker @evleaks, the images reveal three case styles: a clear case, a silicone ring case, and a more premium Kindsuit case. Each one is tailored to the Z Flip7’s thinner folded profile (13.7mm) and larger 4.1-inch edge-to-edge cover display.

The clear case, available in a regular version and one with MagSafe-like magnets, lets users show off the phone’s design while improving grip and wireless charging alignment. It also highlights what appears to be a new Coral Red color option.

The silicone ring case brings a more playful touch, designed for easy one-handed use. It features a sturdy ring attachment and will come in black, blue, coral red, and a mint shade—likely tied to an online-exclusive color variant.

For those looking for something more refined, the Kindsuit case wraps the Flip7 in a faux leather finish, available in black, taupe, and camel. Despite the added protection, all the cases keep the phone’s slim design intact, with raised corners for extra drop protection and minimal bulk. An anti-reflective screen protector was also leaked, complete with cutouts for the cover cameras.

Interestingly, the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip7 FE—expected to be a slightly tweaked version of the Z Flip6 with an Exynos 2400 chip—will likely support these same accessories. That model is rumored to offer a more budget-friendly option, possibly priced between $700 and $800, according to Android Central.

With its new cases and fresh color options, the Z Flip7 is shaping up to be as stylish as it is functional. We’ll find out soon enough whether these accessories help Samsung stand out even more in the foldable space.

Samsung Unpacked teaser hints at surprise tri-fold reveal alongside Z Fold7

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9 is already shaping up to be one of the brand’s most exciting in years — and not just because of the slim Z Fold7. A cheeky new teaser has sparked speculation that Samsung could finally show off a long-rumored tri-fold device.

The event will see the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, and likely a more affordable Z Flip7 FE. Also on the docket: the Galaxy Watch 8 series. But it’s the teaser — filled with food puns, flashy visuals, and layered messaging — that has fans reading between the lines.

According to leaker Setsuna Digital (via Weibo), Samsung may preview its long-rumored tri-fold phone at the event, though a full launch isn’t expected until October — similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge’s staggered reveal earlier this year. If true, it could be the Galaxy G Fold, a device Samsung has shown off at trade shows like CES but never brought to market.

The tri-fold could sport a titanium frame and new silicon-carbon battery tech — and may cost over $3,000, putting it head-to-head with devices like Huawei’s Mate X Ultimate.

As for the confirmed foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite ‘for Galaxy’ chip, a 200MP main camera, and one of the slimmest middle frames of any book-style foldable yet. The Z Flip7, on the other hand, could switch to Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chip in most regions and feature a larger 4.1-inch cover screen. Pre-orders are likely to open shortly after the event, with shipping expected in August.

Samsung is also expected to announce enhanced Galaxy AI features during the event, with tools like “Selfie Studio” possibly baked into One UI 8.0.

With all signs pointing to a foldable-heavy event — and a possible look at Samsung’s next big leap in smartphone design — Unpacked 2025 might just live up to its name.

The light supports adjustable brightness and color temperature and meets TÜV RGO blue light safety standards. The system includes 94 drying slots in total. This covers 40 open hanging slots, 20 retractable rod slots, 32 rotating hook slots, and 2 quilt rods. Xiaomi claims the system can support up to 35kg of laundry. The rods use 6063 aluminum alloy and 304 stainless steel wire for strength and corrosion resistance.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 may have quietly outclassed Vivo & Honor in the slim foldable race

The highly anticipated launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, expected on July 9th, is already facing stiff competition as Honor has unveiled its Magic V5, claiming the title of the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone. This development, just a week before Samsung’s Unpacked event, casts a shadow over one of the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s anticipated key selling points.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Teaser

The Honor Magic V5 boasts an impressive slim profile, measuring a mere 8.8mm when folded and an even more svelte 4.1mm when unfolded. This significantly undercuts the rumored dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is expected to be thinner than its predecessor but not quite as groundbreaking as Honor’s offering. While the Magic V5 is currently exclusive to the Chinese market, its eventual global release poses a direct challenge to Samsung’s dominance, particularly in the premium foldable segment outside the US.

According to prominent leaker Ice Universe, the battle for the thinnest and lightest foldable is nuanced. While the Honor Magic V5 achieves its “thinnest” status in a specific white version (8.8mm folded, with other colors at 9.0mm), and the Vivo X Fold 5 boasts a lightest-only black version at 217g (other colors near 230g), the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is tipped to achieve both lightness and thinness across all its versions, coming in at a reported 8.9mm and 215g. This suggests that while Honor and Vivo might have niche “extreme” versions for marketing, Samsung aims for a more universally accessible and optimized design.

However, the news isn’t all rosy for Samsung. Another major concern for potential Galaxy Z Fold 7 users is the apparent lack of improvement in dust resistance. Leaker PandaFlashX suggests that the device will retain the same IP48 rating as its predecessor, the Z Fold 6. This means that while the phone offers decent water resistance (up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes), it provides only limited protection against dust, specifically larger particles.

In stark contrast, the newly launched Honor Magic V5 comes equipped with IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, offering a higher degree of protection than Samsung’s anticipated offering. Beyond the IP rating, Honor has also focused on other durability aspects, including scratch-resistant outer glass and a hinge tested for an impressive 500,000 folds. Adding to its robust design, the Magic V5 even incorporates AI-based debris detection to prevent screen damage, showcasing a more comprehensive approach to foldable durability.

As the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s launch date approaches, the spotlight is firmly on Samsung to see if it can surprise with additional features or address these competitive concerns, particularly regarding the crucial aspect of device longevity and resistance to environmental factors. The foldable market is rapidly evolving, and while Samsung maintains a strong hold in certain regions, the aggressive innovations from competitors like Honor and Vivo are certainly shaking things up.
