Recent reports have revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S10 series that may go official in February next year will include Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10 5G edition smartphones. Citing information received from a major tech retailer, Gizmodo UK has shared some key information on the pricing and released date of the Galaxy S10 series.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Launch Date

Samsung is known for holding a dedicated event for unleashing its Galaxy S series flagship phone ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech expo each year. According to the publication, the South Korean company will be holding Samsung Unpacked event on Feb. 20 before the MWC 2019 to announce the Galaxy S10 series. The MWC 2019 tech trade show will be held in Barcelona, Spain between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Pre-orders and Release Date

The Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus are expected to be available on pre-orders after the Feb. 20 launch event. The S10 series will be hitting the market on March 8.

It is expected to arrive in 128 GB and 512 GB storage choices that may respectively cost 799 pounds (~$1,008) and 999 pounds (~$1,260).

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus (SM-G975F) will feature a display hole to house dual front-facing cameras. It will be equipped with triple rear cameras. The smartphone is tipped to be fitted with a larger 6.4-inch S-AMOLED display that will QHD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The Galaxy S10 Lite may feature a regular rear-mounted fingerprint scanner or an optical under-display fingerprint scanner. The S10 and S10 Plus are expected to come equipped with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The Android 9 Pie OS overlaid with One UI is expected to arrive preinstalled on the Galaxy S10 series. Depending on the market, the Galaxy S10 series will be coming in chipset variants of Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820.

Rumors have claimed that there will be a Galaxy S10 model with 6.7-inch screen and as many as six cameras. However, there is no fresh information on its existence. A 5G edition of the Galaxy S10 phone is speculated to debut alongside the Galaxy Fold foldable phone in March. It is expected to come equipped with 12 GB of RAM.

Micromax to launch its first smartphone with notch display on December 18

Indian smartphone manufacturer has started sending out media invites for a launch event on 18th December. The company is all set to launch a new smartphone and given the teaser image in the invite, it seems that Micromax will launch its first smartphone featuring a notched display.

The image shared by the company on social media platforms shows a silhouette of a smartphone with a regular rectangular notch. This comes at a time when most companies are moving away from a wide notch to the much smaller waterdrop notch.

This will be the first major smartphone release from Micromax in a while. The company, which once was among the dominating players in the Indian smartphone market, has now been sidelined as Chinese smartphone manufacturers have taken over the market.

Micromax is teasing the launch of this upcoming smartphone with a hashtag #AbovetheRest, suggesting that the phone could be a flagship device from the company. However, do not expect a premium smartphone from the company as it typically launches phones budget to mid-range phones priced under Rs. 20,000 which roughly converts to $280.

The company used to be the second largest smartphone vendor in India but was overrun by the Chinese brands which managed to establish their presence in the market, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. Sony Mobile’s Swedish office cuts its workforce in a bid to reduce costs

Sony Mobile has shrunk over the past few years from the top 3 manufacturers of smartphones. It has considerably lost most of the market to the Chinese manufacturers who are scorching most of the profits in the smartphone industry. Today, Sony Mobile has reduced the staff by 200 employees at the Lund office in Sweden. It is in a bid to reduce the overall expenses of the Sony Mobile division in half over the next several years.

Some time ago, the same office at the Lund in Sweden was serving as the headquarter. Last year, the Japanese firm moved the Sony Mobile headquarters back to Tokyo, but still, there are around 1200 employees who are serving in the Sweden office. The exact details are not out yet but in total around 200 people have been cut in order to reduce the expenses.

After this, another group of 200 people will go by the end of March 2019.

“It is clear that Lund will be affected by cost savings. But how it goes and what kind of costs it will be about, we cannot say yet, because the work is still underway to look at all cost components,” said Stefan Olsson, Deputy Chairman of Sony’s Lund operations. Further, he added, “we have announced 200 services. I see it as being at risk of being dismissed, but hope it will be fewer. The goal is for everything to be negotiated and that individual individuals are informed until March 2019″.

Honor V20 (View 20) AnTuTu listing surface; Key specs and front image leaked

The Honor V20 that is scheduled to go official on Dec. 26 has a model number of PCT-AL10. An AnTuTu listing of the same model number has appeared on Weibo. Apart from some of the key specs of the phone, an image showing the front design of the phone has also been leaked.

The Honor V20 AnTuTu listing has revealed that the smartphone has scored 291,244 points in the benchmark tests. This score is the total of CPU (106,755), GPU (109,251), UX (64,574) and memory (10,664) tests. Leaked information reveals that the Honor V20 is driven by Kirin 980 chipset and 8 GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to arrive with an internal storage of 128 GB.

The top 10 list of best performance Android smartphones for November had four Kirin 980 chipset powered smartphones ranking at the top four positions. The fourth position was held by Honor Magic 2 with a score of 300,866. The Mate 20 Pro ranked third with a score of 302,871. The Mate 20 X came second with a score of 304,807 and the Mate 20 led the pack with 309,425 score.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 ranked tenth with 292,286 which is higher than what Honor V20 has scored on AnTuTu benchmarks. It is not clear whether the 292,244 score belongs to the prototype or final version of the Honor V20 smartphone.

As shown above, the Honor V20 will come equipped with a punch-hole display design. The exact configuration of the front camera is not known. The rear shell of the phone is expected to feature a triple camera setup that will include Sony IMX586 48-megapixel as primary sensor and a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. Lenovo is now building hype around the Lenovo Z5s smartphone that is scheduled to go official on Dec. 17. Yesterday, it had teased the mid-range Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series chipset. With five days remaining for the launch of the smartphone, the company has released another teaser to take a jibe at the Xiaomi Mi 8 flagship phone. Through the new teaser, the Chinese manufacturer is claiming that the triple camera setup of the Lenovo Z5s offers better photography experience than the Xiaomi Mi 8.

Xiaomi Mi 8 is currently ranking on 9^th position with a score of 99 on DxOMark mobile photography benchmarking platform. In the photography and videography benchmarks, it has respectively scored 105 and 88 points. The smartphone is equipped with dual camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Sitting on the frontside of the Mi 8 is a 20-megapixel selfie shooter.

The images of the Lenovo Z5s have already appeared on TENAA through which it has been revealed that it is equipped with a triple camera setup. The arrangement of the triple camera sensors resembles with Huawei P20 Pro.

MediaTek has announced the Helio P90 (MT6779V) chipset through a launch event in Beijing, China. It is a 12nm SoC that comes with better CPU and GPU than the Helio P70 that was made official in the recent past. It has been designed to offer flagship performance in mid-range devices. The biggest improvement that has arrived on the Helio P90 is in the artificial intelligence department. Compared to Helio P70 and Helio P60 chipsets, the Helio P90 can deliver four times better AI performance.

The 12nm MediaTek Helio P90 is an octa-core processor. It includes a pair of ARM Cortex A75 CPUs that work at 2.2 GHz and six ARM Cortex A55 CPUs that function at 2.0 GHz. It relies on PowerVR GM 9946 GPU for graphics.

The Helio P90 powered devices can support up to 8 GB of LPDDRX RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. Phones featuring it can support 48-megapixel camera or 24-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup. It supports a maximum display resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels (full HD+) with an aspect ratio of 21:9.

MediaTek has included APU 2.0 inside the Helio P90 for handling AI tasks. The AI Fusion architecture can intelligently allocate AI tasks to the APU AI Accelerator or to the triple Image Processing Unit (IPU) which allows the phones fueled by Helio P90 to outperform other phones in the mid-range category.

The APU can recognize the type of content that is being displayed on the screen such as movies, sports or games and optimize the display performance accordingly. The benchmark tests carried out by the company revealed that the AI performance of the Helio P90 is better than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and slightly lower than the newer 7nm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.

Honor may soon announce a new entry-level/mid-range phone. The phone has appeared on TENAA’s database with model numbers JAT-AL00 and JAT-TL00.

The Honor JAT-AL00 has a 6.088-inch display with a 1560 x 720 resolution. The phone is powered by an unknown 2.3GHz octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. A MicroSD card slot will let you add up to an extra 512GB of storage.

It is unusual but the Honor JAT-AL00 has a single camera on its back and it is a 13MP sensor. The front camera is also a single 8MP camera. The phone doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner but it should have face unlock. It packs a 2,920mAh battery and runs Android 9 Pie.

Huawei is touted to have got the P Smart 2019 in the works and that the model will be launched sometime in January next year. The Huawei P Smart 2019 was recently certified by the US FCC. In addition, a couple of renders of the device have also been spotted online given us an idea of the design style that Huawei will be deploying on the model. The P Smart 2019 was listed briefly by popular French retailer Boulanger. The listing was quickly taken off but not before details have gotten into the public arena.

The listing reveals a whole lot of the P Smart 2019 specifications among which is a Kirin 710 chipset. The model comes with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is said to have a €249 price tag for the model. The Huawei P Smart 2019 features a 6.21-inch LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The phone may hit Europe in options like 3GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64 GB storage.

Design

Vivo NEX Dual Display and Honor Magic 2 are something incredible if we talk about their aesthetics. The first is the world’s second smartphone to feature two displays (one on the front and one on the back) which allow a screen-to-body ratio close to 100 percent and the use of the rear camera setup as a selfie camera as well. Honor Magic 2 is a phone which minimizes the bezels thanks to a slider containing front cameras and sensors which the user can manually open when needed. Huawei Mate 20 Pro is nothing very special in terms of design, but it has a better build quality: it has glasses protected by Gorilla Glass and it is waterproof and dustproof thanks to the IP68 certification.

Display

The device which delivers the best display quality is undoubtedly the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Indeed, it comes with a higher resolution (Quad HD+ with 3120 x 1440 pixels), it is HDR10-compliant and it supports DCI-P3 coverage, so it has a definitely better color reproduction. It even comes with loud stereo speakers, so it provides a perfect multimedia experience. On the other hand, Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is equipped with two displays and it may result more comfortable. Besides the main AMOLED screen, it has a second smaller display on the back.

Hardware/Software

Thanks to the new Kirin 980 SoC realized with a 7 nm production process, as well as an excellent software optimization, Huawei Mate 20 Pro has definitely better performances than its opponents and almost every Android device actually in the market. And it also supports expandable storage unlike the other two devices. But note that Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is the only one to boast 10 GB of RAM, so it can provide a better multi-tasking experience.

Camera

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a clear winner even on the camera side. It has the world’s best triple camera setup composed of an impressive 40 MP main sensor and two additional sensors with ultrawide and telephoto lens. It has both laser autofocus and optical zoom which goes up to 5x, and it is equipped with an optical stabilization system. Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition and Honor Magic 2 are impressive camera phones as well, but they can not compete with Huawei Mate 20 Pro in any scenario.

Battery

Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the biggest battery ever mounted on a last-gen flagship smartphone. It comes with a capacity of 4200 mAh and, even though its consumptions are not low due to the QHD+ display and other components, it lasts very long. It can easily reach one day on a single charge even when stressed. Honor Magic 2 will probably provide a similar battery life to Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition, but it is the world’s second last-gen phone when it comes to charging times as it can reach 70 percent in just 30 minutes thanks to the Magic Charge technology.

Price

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the best and even the most expensive device of the trio, it was launched with a price tag of €1099/$1250 globally but it has been on the market for a while and now you can get it for about €850/$965 thanks to online street prices, which is the same price for which you will be able to get Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition in Europe (according to leaks). Honor Magic 2 carries a €550/$625 price tag in China and it offers a definitely higher value for money.
