Apple iPhone XR with Liquid Retina Display and A12 Bionic chipset launched, pricing starts at $749

Along with the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, US-based tech giant Apple also announced iPhone XR, which is the cheapest smartphone of the three that were unveiled at the launch event in California, USA.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with an aluminum body and glass back. Unlike the iPhone XS lineup, the new iPhone XR features a 6.1-inch LCD display with a screen resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, offering a pixel density of 326ppi.

Apple iPhone XR (Black)

The company is calling the display as ‘Liquid Retina’ and claims that it is the most advanced LCD display in the industry. It features Apple‘s True Tone technology that is claimed to offer a more natural viewing experience.

While the iPhone XS series features 3D Touch, the iPhone XR lacks support for 3D Touch. However, the company has introduced Haptic Touch, which is similar to the one introduced in the MacBook trackpad.

Just like the iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR too is powered by the latest Apple A12 Bionic 7nm chipset. Apple says that the chipset unlocks new experiences for games, photography, video editing and graphics-intensive apps while still offering great battery life. It comes in three storage options — 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Apple iPhone XR Camera

Coming to the camera configuration, the phone comes equipped with a single 12-megapixel sensor at the back, with a wide-angle lens and optical image stabilizer (OIS), same as the iPhone XS. On the front side, it has the same 7-megapixel True-Deth camera and comes with Face ID support that now unlocks the phone through facial recognition faster than ever. The camera also has support for Portrait Mode that enables you to take images with bokeh effect.

All the iPhone models announced this year comes with IP67 ratings and thus, the iPhone XR is also water resistant. This too runs on the latest iOS 12 operating system. As for the battery capacity, Apple claims that the battery on iPhone XR lasts one and a half hour more than the iPhone 8 Plus.

The iPhone XR comes in multiple color options, including Black, White, Blue, Coral (Pink), Yellow, and Product Red. It is priced at $749 and will be available for pre-order from October 19 and the company will start shipping the iPhone XR from October 26.

Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with Super Retina display and A12 Bionic chipset launched

After months of leaks, Apple has finally announced its latest iPhone lineup. At a launch event in California, the tech giant unveiled three new iPhones — Apple iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max along with the iPhone XR. Among the three new phones, the iPhone XS and XS Plus are the successors of the iPhone X that was launched last year.

Apple iPhone XS and XS Max

The iPhone XS features a 5.8-inch display while the XS Plus has a 6.5-inch display. The company is calling this OLED HDR screen as Super Retina, which provides a pixel density of 458ppi. Apple also says that it has 60 percent greater dynamic range for better colors. It is also a 3D Touch pressure-sensitive screen.

Both the phones are powered by Apple A12 Bionic chipset, which is manufactured using the 7-nanometer process and promises to launch apps 30 percent faster than 2017 iPhones. The SoC has six-core CPU, quad-core GPU, and a dedicated neural engine. The company says that the new chipset can handle five trillion AI operations per second and should provide real-time machine learning.

Apple A12 Bionic Chipset Features

It also comes with an improved camera configuration. There are two camera sensors on the back side, which includes 12-megapixel primary lens with f/1.8 aperture and a 12-megapixel secondary telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture for lossless 2X zoom. On the front side, there’s a 7-megapixel snapper with f/2.2 aperture, coupled with IR camera to enable portrait mode. The Face ID feature, which unlocked the phone through facial recognition, also works faster.

The camera can detect people’s faces and bodies, and also offers an instant red-eye reduction. There’s Smart HDR which can identify highlights and find shadow detail. An interesting feature is that you can now adjust the depth of a portrait mode photo after capturing the image.

Apple iPhone XS Max Camera

Both, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, come in three storage options — 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The devices are also IP68 rated, which means that both phones are water-resistant and can survive in water up to 30 minutes in 2 meters depth.

Another major feature of the new iPhone is the support for Dual SIM cards through eSIM technology. While the addition of Dual SIM support may not be a big deal in the US, it’s a huge deal for Asian countries. A special model for China has support for two physical SIM cards.

Running on iOS 12, the new iPhone XS and XS Max has support for stereo sound with a wider stereo field than 2017 iPhones, claims the company. As for the battery, the company has not revealed specifications but says that the iPhone XS should last 30 minutes longer than iPhone X and the iPhone XS Max should have 1.5 hours longer battery life than the iPhone X.

The pricing for the iPhone XS starts at $999 while the iPhone XS Max starts at $1,099. Both the phones will be available in three color options — Space Grey, Silver, and Gold. The iPhone XS and XS Plus will be available for pre-order from Friday, and they will start shipping from September 21.

Samsung Galaxy S10 to come in three models, one with triple cameras

Samsung launched its 2018 Galaxy flagship earlier this year. The Galaxy S9 models weren’t so impressive as they only had some upgrades over the Galaxy S8 series but not so much of what fans expected. There are indications the Korean giant is already working on the Galaxy S10. According to an insider source, the Galaxy S10 will come in three different models and one of the versions will feature a triple camera setup. This is sort of a confirmation of earlier reports that the Galaxy S10 will have triple rear cameras. The Galaxy S10 is also said to include a budget-model, targeted at consumers who consider price as a major determinant of getting a phone.Samsung Galaxy S9 Burgundy Red variant

The source hinted that all three models will pack a 12MP wide-angle lens with 78-degree FOV as well as a 16MP super wide-angle lens with a field of view of 123 degrees. The source also disclosed that the high-end Galaxy S10 Plus will exclusively pack a third 13MP telephoto lens with a 45-degree FOV. In addition, the Galaxy S10 models will follow suit with the S9 in having support for Samsung’s dual aperture (f/1.5 and f/2.4) technology.

In addition, the Galaxy S10 Plus is said to come equipped with optical image stabilization in the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, just like the setup on the Galaxy S9 Plus and Note 9. Previously, the Galaxy S9 featured a single 12MP sensor, while Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus came equipped with two 12MP sensors, one a wide-angle lens and the other a telephoto lens. Samsung will likely utilize the triple camera setup by combining the image data from all three sensors for improved clarity and light performance but we are not so sure about how it will pan out.

On the display end, the Galaxy S10 models are expected to have a 5.8-inch display on the base model, while the mainstream model will have a 6.1-inch display. The high-end Plus model will pack a 6.4-inch display. Unfortunately, the source hinted that the Galaxy S10 may not have the much-expected on-screen fingerprint sensor. Rather, the fingerprint sensor will likely remain on the rear of the device. However, the source included a caveat that Samsung’s plans for the Galaxy S10 could change between now and next year when the models are expected to drop.

Meizu apologizes for Meizu 16 series delivery delay

If you pre-ordered the Meizu 16 (or Meizu 16 Plus) from the official Meizu store, there is a chance you must have received a mail from the manufacturer. The mail is actually an official apology from the manufacturer.

The apology is for a delay in the delivery of all Meizu 16 (and 16 Plus) orders. According to Meizu, they underestimated the popularity of both phones hence the need to have to delay shipment. The duration of the delay ranges from one week to four weeks depending on the model and configuration.

Meizu 16 order delay

Those who ordered the 6GB RAM + 64GB model of the Meizu 16 in black or white will have to wait an extra week. Those who ordered the 6GB RAM + 128GB white version will have to wait for an extra two to three weeks.

Design

Before releasing the Find X this year, Oppo kept releasing upper-midrange handsets instead of flagships for 4 years. That is why even Oppo mid-rangers have a flagship-like design, and that is why we suggest you get an Oppo F9 Pro if you want the best look. It offers a tri-borderless design with a small waterdrop notch and a very narrow chin, as well as an elegant glass back which is available in gradient color variants. In the second place, there is Nokia 6.1 Plus: it boasts a notch as well, just a little bigger, and a glass back; but it is less attractive than its opponent. In my opinion, Moto G6 Plus is the worst one in terms of design, but it is splash resistant.

Display

When it comes to displays, it is not easy to choose a winner because these devices have similar displays both on the paper and in daily use. Moto G6 Plus and Oppo F9 Pro have a wider screen (note that 18:9 displays are bigger than 19:9 displays with the same diagonal), while Nokia 6.1 Plus is more compact and easy to use with one hand. I would personally choose Oppo F9 Pro due to its high surface and its great viewing quality, but the other twos are not so distant in terms of display quality.

Hardware & Software

The device I like the most for its hardware and software sides is Nokia 6.1 Plus. First of all, it offers a chipset (the Snapdragon 636) which is a perfect compromise between performance and efficiency. Secondly, the device is equipped with Android One, a stock version of the operating system supported directly by Google with fast and constant updates. Oppo F9 Pro takes the second place as its MediaTek Helio P60 is very powerful and it comes with up to 6 GB RAM.

Camera

After checking photos taken from each device, I can say that Moto G6 Plus has the most impressive rear camera. With its bright f/1.7 aperture it shoots very detailed photos and it can capture a huge amount of light. On the other hand, Oppo F9 Pro offers a better selfie snapper with a resolution of 25 MP which is also AI-backed with very interesting features. I saw less convincing photos with the Nokia 6.1 Plus.

Battery

With its big 3500 mAh battery, Oppo F9 Pro boasts the longest battery life. It is able to reach the end of the day even when used continuously. And it even has the fastest charging technology, so the fact that the battery is bigger does not mean that it takes longer to fully charge. When it comes to Moto G6 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, it is a close fight and the battery life depends on the usages, but they last more or less the same.

Price

In India, Moto G6 Plus was released a few days ago in the 6 GB RAM configuration, with a price tag of about $310. Nokia 6.1 Plus costs about $222, while Oppo F9 Pro carries a price tag of about $333. Oppo F9 Pro is the winner of the comparison, but Nokia 6.1 Plus is the one with the best value for money.

ASUS launches ROG Phone in China, starts at ¥5999 (~$875)

ASUS held an event today in China where it announced a bunch of products including the ROG Phone. The ROG Phone was first announced about three months ago but has now gotten an official launch in China along with pricing details.

ASUS ROG Phone China

ROG Phone Design

With respect to design, the ROG Phone doesn’t look like your average phone. It comes in black with copper-colored accents for the cooling vents on the back and the front-facing speakers in front. There is an RGB LED underneath the ROG logo on the back with different modes including static, breathing, strobe and color cycling. The dual camera housing and the fingerprint scanner are also weirdly shaped. It isn’t a beautiful phone neither is it ugly but it stands out.

Also, a subsequent leak had also revealed the manual slider design in a leaked video. Today, a new image of the front panel of the Mi MIX 3 has surfaced on Weibo today to reveal its redesigned appeal.

The Mi MIX 2S that was unveiled earlier this year sported improved specs. However, its design was similar to the Mi MIX 2 that was announced last year. The official Mi MIX 3 render has revealed that it will be arriving with an improved design. The image of the Mi MIX 3 front panel that has appeared today shows that its top and side bezels are quite thin. This indicates that the Mi MIX 3 will be ofering higher screen-to-body ratio than its predecessor model.

The official image of the Mi MIX 3 had revealed that it does not feature a front-facing camera on its bottom bezel. The image of the Mi MIX 3’s front panel show that it has a slimmer bottom bezel compared to the Mi MIX 2S mainly since the selfie camera is no longer present on it.

Huami’s new smartwatch details, retail box and pricing leaked; Can detect heart-related problems

It is just five days and some hours before Xiaomi’s Mi Band maker, Huami launch event which is scheduled for September 17. It has now been confirmed that the product the company will launch is a smartwatch. Since the launch of the wearable device will coincide with Huami’s third anniversary we expect it to be a flagship product. The rumour mills have been kept buzzing today as some interesting details of the smartwatch have emerged. The retail box, price tag in China and a sketch of the watch also joins in leaking out.Huami Amazfit watch

Huami’s founder and CEO, Huang Wang is the source of the details about the device. In a Weibo post published today, the CEO disclosed that the company’s R&D team has made striking breakthroughs in 24-hour real-time monitoring of cardiac health problems such as Arrhythmia, including Atrial Fibrillation. This is achieved through AI technology and new high-precision optical sensors developed independently. Huang also hinted that Apple was going to likely announce the same feature on the Apple Watch during its launch event tonight. That perhaps explains why the feature wasn’t kept as a surprise until the launch of the product. The company would not want to be accused of copying Apple.huami

Further, the retail box of the smartwatch also appeared online alongside its pricing. The device comes with an all-white packaging box that has the company’s logo at the top. The name Amazfit X is also inscribed but we can’t make out the Chinese texts at the end. It is possible the device will be called Amazfit X. The leak also suggests it would come with a 1,599 yuan (~$232) price tag. At this price, we expect nothing less than a well-studded, sleek smartwatch.Amazfit X

Also spotted online is a ketch said to be of the Amazfit smartwatch. The sketch points to a round watch face and the absence of buttons at the side. There is just a button which may be the power button just like on the sleek Amazfit Pace. On the watch face if one of the sketches, is the microphone icon. This could mean the device would come with a built-in microphone and perhaps speaker. With such features, we could be looking at smartwatch with GSM or even LTE features among others. We expect the smartwatch to pack several other features found on high-end smartwatches.

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked OnePlus 6T case images reveal rear design

The OnePlus 6T smartphone is coming and rumors surrounding it claim that it will be sporting a design that is very similar to the OPPO R17. Today, GizmoChina brings to you exclusive images of the black colored TPU case for the upcoming OnePlus 6T. The appearance of the case serves as another proof that the OP6T will borrow its design from the OPPO R17.

The OPPO R17 and R17 Pro smartphones were unveiled in the previous month. Both the handsets are equipped with in-screen fingerprint reader. The R17 features a vertical dual camera setup whereas the R17 is fitted with a vertical triple lens setup which includes dual cameras and a 3D TOF stereo camera for AR. The black TPU case of the OnePlus 6T shows that the rear design of the phone is quite similar to OPPO R17. The cutout for the rear camera does not seem to be big enough to accommodate to the triple lens system available on the OPPO R17 Pro. Below the cutout for the vertical dual camera setup, there is a pill-shaped cutout for the LED flash.

The right side of the case shows that the OnePlus 6T features cutouts for Alert Slider and power key. The volume rocker will stay on the left side of the OP6T. The bottom side of the case shows that it features cutouts for 3.5mm audio jack, USB Type-C port and external speaker.

oneplus-6t-case-2

Leaked images of the retail box of the OnePlus 6T that had surfaced around a week ago shows that it will be arriving with the new waterdrop style notch. It is speculated that the OP6T could be the first phone from the company to arrive with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. There is no news available on the internals of the phone. It is likely to borrow most of its specs from the OnePlus 6 smartphone. Hence, it is rumored to arrive with AMOLED display, Snapdragon 845, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The Chinese manufacturer is also likely to debut the Bullet Wireless V2 alongside the OnePlus 6T as it recently received approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. Just as the OnePlus 5T was made official in November, the OnePlus 6T may arrive in the same month this year.
