Huawei recently trademarked the Mate X moniker, which makes us think that the company has planned the launch of a brand new high-end device. Well, the company may have decided to trademark this moniker just to defend itself from the competition, because other companies using similar names for their products might cause an issue to its branding. But recent leaks have suggested that the Mate X may really exist. A new page spotted on TENAA websites contains some info about a device with the model number NEO-AL00, which is said to be the Huawei Mate X.
According to some firmware files which recently surfaced, the Huawei device identified by the model number NEO-AL00 is a flagship phone. It sports the most powerful SoC ever released by Huawei: the octa-core Kirin 970, which is also the same as the Huawei Mate 10 and the upcoming P20. According to rumours, the letter A inside the model number stands for the configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. If it is really so, the alleged Huawei Mate X may be a high-end device, but note that it may not be the best flagship by the company.
Besides performance, it may also focus on the quality-price ratio, given that nowadays every flagship has at least 64 GB of internal storage. Recently, the customer service of Huawei mall hinted at the arrival of new a series of smartphones, and this is another info which makes us think that Huawei Mate X is in development.
At MWC 2018, Huawei released a device with a similar name. We are referring to the flagship convertible tablet MateBook X Pro, which comes with an Intel Core i7 8th gen CPU in its most powerful configuration. Everything seems to be suggesting that if a Huawei Mate X does exists, it will be one of the most important handsets by the Chinese giant.
New alleged promotional images of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S which have just been shared online are hinting at a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio. In fact, unlike previous renders, we can’t even see the front camera in these renders, which makes us seriously doubt its authenticity. These images may be showing the long-awaited Full Screen 3.0 technology, with the highest screen-to-body ratio ever. The bezels of the phone are as narrow as the ones of the iPhone X (more or less), but there is no notch to house the earpiece and the front camera: this means that the STB ratio is even higher than iPhone X.
Even though a leaked schematics and several images hinted at a little notch on the top right corner for the selfie camera, these alleged promotional images are not showing any notch. In the promotional image, we can see the rear side of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S as well. It should be made either of glass or ceramic and in the image, we can see the White variant of the handset which hints at a fully ceramic design. On the back cover, there is a dual camera setup in a vertical configuration, a dual LED flash and a fingerprint reader under the secondary sensor.
At the unveiling of the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro in India last month, Xiaomi also announced the Mi LED TV 4 55”. Unfortunately, the TV was out of stock before buyers could even click “Buy Now” on the first sale day. Next sale is on the 6th of March by the way.
Xiaomi must have seen the success of the Mi LED TV 4 hence its plan to launch a new TV – the Mi LED Smart 4C 43” on March 7. Although the launch is still a few days away, the TV has been seen on the official Mi India website.
The product page is actually not available but the purchase page is what is visible. The specs are also not listed but the price of the Mi LED TV 4C is put at Rs. 27,999 (~$430).
The Mi LED TV 4C is available in China as the Mi TV 4C. It has a FHD screen with a 1920 x 1080 display. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage and is powered by a quad-core Amlogic T962-HX processor.
There is Dolby Audio and DTS-HD audio decoding. For connectivity, the TV has 3x USB 2.0 ports, 3x HDMI ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an ethernet port.
This year, Huawei will be making a huge jump in the naming of its main flagships. Its upcoming P-series flagship which should be called the P11 will launch as the Huawei P20. It turns out the same will happen to the Mate series as well.
It was reported earlier that Huawei wants to keep the naming uniform on both of its major flagships hence its decision to change the Plus model of the P-series to Pro.
A new leak has now revealed that the Mate series will also be getting a name change. The leak comes from a Weibo user by the name @lumisky.
According to him, the next Mate phone will be called the Huawei Mate 20 (and Mate 20 Pro) and not Mate 11 (and Mate 11 Pro).

Huawei will release the Nova 3S in December and it will pack nearly the same specs save for the display which has a 1200p resolution and the chipset which is the Kirin 970. Price will be the same as that of the Nova 3.

Honor 9
Honor 10 and Honor 10 Lite

The Lite variant comes 6 months later with the same display but the Kirin 670. It will have 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variants and pack dual cameras on both sides.
It will also sell for much less, starting at ¥1299, ¥1599, and ¥1899 for all three variants.
Honor V10

The Honor V11 will pack a 6” 2K display, a Kirin 970, and up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It will have dual 12MP rear cameras and a single 8MP selfie camera.

Xiaomi has added a new 40 inches model to the Mi TV 4A lineup. The new 40 inches model will likely be a Jingdong exclusive and is already up for reservation on the e-commerce platform. With this new version, the Xiaomi Mi TV 4A is now available in 32, 40, 43, 49, 55 and 65 inches. Most of all, this version comes with a cheaper price tag and an added feature which is voice control.
The Mi TV 4A 40 inches features a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels just like the 43-inch and 49-inch models. The display uses direct type backlight and has a viewing angle of 178 degrees, dynamic response of 8ms, a static contrast ratio of 5000: 1, and a refresh rate of 60Hz.
The new model equally packs a quad-core 64-bit high-performance Amlogic T962 processor clocked at 1.5GHz while the graphic is powered by a Mali 450 750MHz GPU. The processor paired with just 1GB of DDR4 RAM. The device also offers jus 8GB eMMC5.1 flash memory on this version. It should be noted that the RAM and storage size of this model is lower than those of the other Mi TV 4A models but that also makes the price tag cheaper.
In addition, the Mi TV 4A comes with support for HDR10 and the latest UHD HLG while also supporting the Dolby Vision format. The Smart TV also sports a dual-band WiFi connection, PatchWall OS as well as Bluetooth 4.2. The Bluetooth connectivity allows the TV to connect with accessories such as Bluetooth mouse, speakers, keyboard, gaming pad and others. The Mi TV 4A come with Artificial Intelligence voice control which allows its users to switch to a particular TV program with voice command, activated via the remote control.
The Xiaomi Mi TV 4A 40 inches is available for just 1699 Yuan ($268)on Jingdong and seems to be an exclusive product. Reservations are already ongoing on JD.com. Sales would commence on March 6 and those who preorder before then will get a 100 Yuan price cut and pay 1,599 Yuan.
Blackview has released quite a few phones over the time and the company does not seem to stop. In fact, they have released a lot of new phones at MWC a few days ago and I had a chance to check them out.
Blackview BV9500
The BV9500 is one of the latest editions in the rugged phones lineup. The phone is water, dust, and shock resistant thanks to IP68 certification and rugged design. One of the highlights of the device is a whopping 9180mAh battery. The key specs include the dual-camera setup on the back, MTK6763 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM. In the hand, the phone feels nice and sturdy. I especially like a sturdy metal frame and a dedicated camera button.
Blackview BV5800 Pro
The BV5800 Pro is a rugged phone geared towards budget-minded users (price is not yet released). The design of this phone reminds me of the Blackview BV7000 Pro that was released quite a while ago. Again, we have a combination of metal and rubber on the back and sides. Since this phone will most likely be cheaper, it ships with a less powerful MTK6739 chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. The device has a huge 5000mAh battery and Android 8.1 is running the show.
Blackview A20
If you take a look at the specs of the A20, you would presume a low price of the device. This phone has 18:9 aspect ratio display, plasticky build and it rocks a good old Mediatek 6580 chipset. In fact, this is one of the Android GO phones, meaning that it runs on a simplified version of Google’s OS. That may be the reason why the A20 has just 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
Blackview P6000 Plus
The P6000 Plus is one of the most beautiful phones Blackview has announced at MWC. The standout features include the 6″ in-cell 1080p panel that rocks 18:9 aspect ratio. Also, I love the blue color glass backplate and round edges on the back and on the front. The overall build quality seems to be pretty good. Other key specs include MTK6750T chip, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM and a huge 6180mAh battery with the quick charge support.
Blackview P10000 Pro
As the name implies, this phone rocks a massive 10000mAh battery with the quick charge support. As for design, you can feel the weight of the phone. The device has a metal frame on the sides and metal design elements on the back. Speaking of the back, it is made of genuine leather. As for specifications, the phone has a MTK6763 chipset, 6″ 18:9 1080p+ display, dual camera setup on the back, 64GB ROM and 4GB RAM.
Pricing and availability on these phones is not yet disclosed. We will surely keep you updated on that, so stay tuned to Gizmochina.
Besides re-launching the Nokia brand with Android phones, HMD Global, the Finnish company which acquired the former leader of the phones market, has also started revamping some of the best old feature phones by the brand. We saw a new and more advanced version of the Nokia 3310, and a few days ago HMD Global also launched a revamped version of the old, banana-shaped Nokia 8110 at MWC 2018. A lot of factors are making us think that many more old Nokia phones will be revived thanks to HMD Global.
After the success garnered by the revamped 3310, and the launch of the new 8110, several companies are aiming to enter the feature phones market (further thanks to KaiOS Technologies which announced a new operating system for feature phones). There is still no info about the upcoming feature phones to be launched by HMD Global, but in this article, we are trying to guess which will be the next revamped devices basing on their popularity in the past.
Nokia 1100
Nokia 1100 is a very old device. It comes from an age in which phones were only used to call and send/receive text messages. It had a black and white display and a very low amount of additional features. It was possible to set the ringtone, browse some drawings included by default, play a few pre-installed games and a few more. But it is the most sold phone ever, and that is why HMD Global may decide to launch a new version of this device. Obviously, expect a more advanced device with a possible 3G / 4G connectivity instead of the same and obsolete 1110 that we saw in the past.
Nokia Ringo
Nokia Ringo was one of the first pay as you go phones. In case you don’t know, a pay as you go telephone is a phone which allows you to talk after purchasing the credit in advance, just like we do now. Indeed, in the early times of mobile phones, this service did not exist and calls worked in a different way. First, you would make your calls, then you had to pay a bill basing on how much you talk or other kinds of promotions. Nokia Ringo is the oldest phone in this list (but not the oldest Nokia phone ever) and it wa launched back in 1995. Seeing its importance in history, HMD Global might revive this phone or even adopt its name like it did with the Nokia 8 “Sirocco”.
Nokia N90
Nokia N90 was a very innovative feature phone. It was a clamshell device, but its display could be rotated in several ways, and it was even possible to transform it like a professional camera to record video. Depending on your use, you could set the phone and also rotate the camera in different positions. In the smartphones market, given that keyboards are gone, a device like this wouldn’t make much sense, but in the feature phones market, it may still be worth trying out again.
Nokia N-Gage
After the launch of Razer Phone and its success, other companies are thinking about releasing a smartphone dedicated to gaming. Just to make an example, Meizu is planning to launch a new gaming phone with Game Mode 2.0, and Xiaomi should be planning to do it as well, with the help of a company known as Black Shark. If gaming phones become a thing in the market, even HMD Global may plan on bringing back the N-Gage brand.
The first N-Gage device was a phone focused on video games: it has a design which reminds a lot of mobile consoles like Game Boy Advance and PSP. On the left side of the screen, it sported a directional pad which was very comfortable to operate while playing games, while on the right side there was a 3×4 keyboard with two highlighted keys dedicated to games. Nokia has already exhumed the N-Gage brand once, during the age of the famous Nokia N95, with much more advanced video games than the ones based on Java available at that time.
So, why shouldn’t it happen again?
Nokia 6630
Not everyone liked the shape of this phone because it was not very suitable to keep it in your pocket, but its design still became iconic. It was appreciated by young people thanks to its wide key design which was very good to type quick messages. The camera too was very good for its time. The phone had Symbian OS and all the connectivity options available at the time, except for Wi-Fi. Given its iconic status, it is not hard to imagine that HMD Global may bring it back in a new design.
Nokia 5300 XpressMusic
This phone was an icon for multimedia in its time. In a few words, it was designed to replace the old MP3 players. It had a sliding design, but it could be used as a music player when the slider is closed and this way the phone becomes very compact. This is possible thanks to the multimedia keys placed on the sides of the display (Play/Stop, Back, Forward and the volume balancer) and the navigation pad that you can see under it. Some rumors and concept surfaced online in the last year have already suggested that an ExpressMusic phone may be released soon, but until now, no official info have come out.
Nokia N95
A feature phone, an MP3 player, and a device for productivity. Nokia N95 was one of the best devices released by Nokia before the smartphone age. It had a sliding design which could be opened in two ways: the classic vertical mode like every other sliding phone and a landscape mode with multimedia keys to watch movies, videos and listen to music. This device was cool to navigate the internet thanks to its wide display, even though it had no touchscreen. And thanks to its accurate GPS and the Symbian OS, it could even be used for car navigation.
Nokia Lumia 1020
Nokia Lumia 1020 is the most recent phone in this list and it ain’t a feature phone. It is a smartphone released in 2013 based on Windows Phone and it is one of the most impressive devices ever in terms of camera performance. It can shoot photos at a massive resolution of 41 Megapixels, it sports Carl Zeiss lens, optical stabilization, and a Xenon + LED flash which could illuminate the dark. After HMD Global acquired Nokia, the brand kept focusing a lot on the cameras, so the arrival of a camera phone like the Lumia 1020 in the future cannot be ignored.
So which iconic Nokia phone would you like to see come back in 2018?
HTC is one of the major manufacturers that didn’t announce a new phone at the recently concluded MWC 2018. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as its most recent flagship, the HTC U11+ is just a few months old. However, it has been revealed that its next flagship will be called the HTC U12, and its full specs and price have been leaked.
Alleged HTC U12 at a 5G conference in Taiwan
A Twitter user who goes by @Ikadmy is the source of the leak. According to his tweet, the HTC U12 will have a 6” 18:9 display with a 2K resolution. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.
On the rear will be dual 12MP cameras arranged vertically, and up in front is an 8MP selfie camera. It will also have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The HTC U12 will come with Sense 10 based on Android Oreo. HTC will also ship it with Edge Sense 2.0 – an improved version of the squeeze feature of its recent phones. Like the HTC U11+, it will have a hybrid dual SIM slot (nano only).
With respect to design, the HTC U12 will have glass on both sides and will be IP68 certified. Under the glass back is a 3980mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
When it comes to the Android market, manufacturers have different opinions about the software side of their handsets. Some companies prefer to implement a custom UI with additional features in order to distinguish themselves from the competition and provide a richer user experience. Other brands prefer to launch their devices with stock Android for better performance, a bloatware-free user experience, and faster updates. The ZTE sub-brand Nubia has always implemented a custom UI on its devices, but starting from 2018 it will ditch the Nubia UI and release devices with stock Android.
According to the company, the decision made sense because it provided faster updates of the operating system.Upcoming Nubia phones will also have the support for Project Treble by Google, which indeed means quick updates. This decision will interest the Global versions of the upcoming Nubia devices, as the Chinese versions should still be shipped with a custom UI, without Google apps and services.
It has also been confirmed that future Nubia devices will come with Android Oreo out of the box.
Which is your favourite firmware based on Android? Stock Android with better performances and faster updates or custom UI with many additional features and apps?
With each passing day, we draw closer to the launch of the Huawei P20 series. There are already so many leaks on the three devices, but with 3 more weeks of waiting, more are expected. Today’s leak is live photos of the blue variant of the Huawei P20 Lite.
The Huawei P20 was seen on TENAA last week and the pictures provided show the phone in a blue coat of paint. The other two phones – the P20 Lite and P20 Pro are also expected to come in the same blue color, and live photos of the former have surfaced online.
[envira-gallery id=”176738″]
The Huawei P20 Lite is shown rocking dual rear cameras. Although, the camera housing is black, it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb as seen on Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro.
The back appears to be made of glass judging by its reflective nature but the fingerprint scanner is a different material with a different shade of blue.
Even though the picture of the front of the device is taken in the dark, its bezels are most likely black.Thankfully, the display is on and we can see the notch at the top.
The Huawei P20 Lite is expected to come with a 5.84” display with a FHD+ screen. It will be powered by the Kirin 659 and have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is already officially confirmed as coming on March 27 but we may not have to wait until the D-day to scoop some juicy details of the device. Xiaomi has hinted that some interesting details of the Mix 2s would be announced next week.
The upcoming flagship Mi Mix 2s is already known to feature Qualcomm latest Snapdragon 845 processor which pulled a total score of 273,741 points on AnTuTu benchmark as revealed by the tech giant. Apart from this, all other details out in the open were based on speculations and rumours. But seems the tech giant will share some teasers of the device from next week. The Weibo post from Xiaomi phone’s official Weibo page of some important announcement seems to suggest that.
We have absolutely no idea what important news would be announced next week but we are certain it has to do with the Mi Mix 2S considering the hashtag attached to the post. As stated, the first teaser we saw was for the Snapdragon 845 chip and next week could be time for more teasers. Keep a tab on this page for more news on the Mi Mix 2s.
When a search is conducted to collate the premium flagship models, Samsung would definitely be at the top of the list. The same thing applies to the midrange category and now, Samsung seems to have got the budget cadre covered as well. The Galaxy J-series is more or less a budget series and Samsung has got quite a number of J-series models in the works. The Galaxy J3 2018 has made an appearance on Geekbench which is an indication that the device is in the works.
The Galaxy J3 variants are listed with the model numbers SM-J337A and SM-J337P which is an indication that one would be the Galaxy J3 and the other is the Galaxy J3 Pro. Both models don’t have the same processor onboard, as the SM-J337A comes with an Exynos 7570 processor with a base frequency of 1.4GHz which is the same SoC on the Galaxy J3 (2017). On the other hand, the SM-J337P model features an Exynos 7885 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz. Both models pack 2GB of RAM and will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
No word yet on when the models would be unveiled but we expect them to drop soon. Since Samsung is now trying to gain lost ground on the mid-tier/budget segment, we could see these models launched at affordable prices.
MediaTek unveiled the Helio P60, its latest processor, at MWC 2018 on Monday. However, there was no mention of the OEMs that have signed on to use the chipset in their phones.
While MediaTek has kept mum on its clients’ names, one leaker has decided to disclose not only the name of one of the OEM’s but also the exact phone coming with the chipset.
According to Twitter leaker – @MMDDJ_, the OPPO R15 will come with MediaTek’s new Helio P60. Surprised? So are we.
The R-series is OPPO’s flagship series and it has always settled for Qualcomm’s upper mid-range chipsets. At the moment, the Snapdragon 660 is the most powerful chipset in Qualcomm’s mid-range line and it already powered the OPPO R11/R11 Plus and OPPO R11s/R11s Plus. So, it doesn’t make sense to use the chipset again.
OPPO R15 render leak
What about the Snapdragon 670? Qualcomm has not announced it yet and rumors say it won’t arrive till the second half of the year. But with the timing of the leaks of the OPPO R15, it appears OPPO won’t be waiting till then to release its new phone.
Although, it did release the OPPO R11/R11 Plus in the second half of 2017, let us not also forget that the OPPO R9 was announced in March in 2016. With the Snapdragon 660 out of the way, MediaTek’s Helio P60 is the chipset to turn to and for good reason.
The Helio P60 as we saw in benchmark tests offers the same performance as the Snapdragon 660 but unlike the SD660 which is a 14nm processor, the Helio P60 is a 12nm chip. As we already know, a smaller node process brings improvements in performance and power management.
Oppo is not the only BBK company which is planning to release new upper-midrange devices focused on camera and innovation. Right after OPPO teased its upcoming R15 and R15 Plus, Vivo X21 has received the official Chinese 3C certification. According to the listing, the upcoming handset will be released in four different variants: Vivo X21, X21UD, X21A and X21 UD A. We guess that the first two variants will be the most powerful and expensive ones, while the third and the fourth one will be their affordable alternatives.
The two UD variants will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner just like the Vivo X20 Plus UD, thanks to the chip launched by Synaptics around the end of 2017. So, with the Under-Display versions of the Vivo X21, it will be possible to unlock the phone just by touching the display. According to the latest rumours, the device will have a custom borderless display supplied by Samsung. At least the first two variants of the handset, i.e. the X21 and the X21 UD, are expected to come with the octa-core Snapdragon 670 SoC by Qualcomm.
This processor is still not official, but given that Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 700 series at MWC 2018 we guess that SD670 too will be unveiled soon. Vivo X21 is also tipped to come with 18W fast charging, but it was expected given that Snapdragon 6xx usually support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology. We do not know whether the X21 and X21 A will come with a notch.
Recent leaks have already shown a Vivo V9 with a notch, which is similar to the upcoming Oppo R15 and R15 Plus, at least in its front panel. The V9 will offer a 24 MP selfie camera according to a poster spotted in Indonesia. However, considering that there will be a UD version of the X21, expect a very high screen-to-body ratio.
