Motorola unveils affordable Moto Watch Fit with AMOLED display, GPS, health tracking features

Motorola dropped a new smartwatch, the Moto Watch Fit, alongside its Edge 60 Pro and Razr 60 Ultra on April 24, 2025. Priced at just £89.99 in the UK, this Apple Watch lookalike packs a 1,000-nit AMOLED display, GPS, and a 16-day battery life, making it a steal for Android users looking for fitness tracking on a budget.

The Moto Watch Fit screams value

It blends style and function without breaking the bank. Its 1.9-inch AMOLED display, protected by Gorilla Glass 3, hits 1,000 nits for crisp visibility in sunlight, though larger bezels and no digital crown hint at cost-cutting compared to pricier rivals like the Apple Watch. It’s Android-only, syncing seamlessly with phones to show notifications and control music playback. But its proprietary real-time operating system also means it won’t support third-party apps.

Fitness buffs will love the built-in GPS, which tracks runs and bike rides without needing your phone. With heart rate, SpO2, and motion sensors, it monitors steps and over 100 activities, from yoga to swimming—thanks to IP68 certification and 5 ATM water resistance. Motorola claims a stellar 16-day battery life, likely without an always-on display, perfect for those who hate daily charging. It comes with swappable 22mm straps that closely resemble Apple’s in both look and functionality.

The Watch Fit offers some customization, though it skips advanced health sensors like ECG or temperature tracking found in premium models. At £89.99 (~₹10,200), it’s a strong contender against budget trackers like the Amazfit Bip 6, especially with GPS giving it an edge over the Galaxy Fit 3.

Availability details for markets like India or the US are still under wraps, but posts on X praise its long battery and vibrant screen. For Android users wanting an affordable fitness companion, the Moto Watch Fit looks like a smart buy.

Pixel 7a battery swelling? Google is offering a free replacement

Google’s Pixel 7a, launched in 2023, is facing a battery swelling problem, prompting the company to roll out an Extended Repair Program. Affected users can claim a one-time free battery replacement or up to $456 in compensation, depending on their region and device condition. This follows a string of battery issues for Google’s Pixel A series, raising questions about safety and reliability.

Image: Google

Google acknowledges that some units suffer from “unexpected battery swelling”

The Pixel 7a, a mid-range favorite, is under scrutiny as Google acknowledges that some units suffer from “unexpected battery swelling,” causing bulging back panels, detached covers, or rapid battery drain. This issue, detailed in a support post, echoes earlier Pixel A series troubles—like the Pixel 4a’s halved battery life post-update and the Pixel 9a’s confirmed degradation after 200 cycles, per Android Police.

Eligible users in the US, India, Canada, UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore can get a free battery replacement at walk-in repair centers, with mail-in options in the US and India, subject to stock availability. Devices with liquid damage, cracked displays, or other physical harm may be disqualified, per Google’s terms. Users outside these regions, like Australia or EEA countries, can opt for “appeasement options”: a $200 payment, a $300 Google Store discount, or up to $456 for in-warranty devices, converted to local currency.

To check eligibility, owners must enter their Pixel 7a’s IMEI on Google’s registration page, followed by a physical inspection. The program, announced quietly on April 23, 2025, doesn’t extend the original warranty, and only individual end-users qualify. Reddit threads and X posts reflect user frustration but also relief at Google’s response. With the Pixel 9a ($499 on Amazon) narrowing the gap to flagships, Google’s battery issues highlight a weak spot in its otherwise stellar lineup. Act fast if your 7a’s bulging—this offer is apparently limited by supply.

While the design and features of the phone are already public, thanks to its global unveiling, the only missing piece of the puzzle is its price tag for the Indian market.

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro flaunts a 6.7-inch quad-curved pOLED display that supports a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 4,500 nits. Powering the phone is the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset, built on a 4nm process. It’s paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The device houses a 6,000mAh battery with support for 90W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging. The phone runs on Android 15, which brings along a slew of Moto AI features.

On the camera front, it sports a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom. Globally, the Edge 60 Pro is priced at £600. The phone is offered in eye-catching finishes like Pantone Shadow (leather-like texture), Dazzling Blue (fabric-inspired), and Sparkling Grape (with a unique textured finish). For reference, its predecessor, the Edge 50 Pro, launched in India in the Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 range, so we can expect the Edge 60 Pro to land in a similar pricing bracket.

Xiaomi allegedly demands up to a 15-hour workday from employees, penalizes for leave: Report

Xiaomi is facing scrutiny following reports in China alleging the company has been quietly pushing its employees to work excessive overtime. A post on Maimai, a LinkedIn-like service popular in China, claims that Xiaomi requires staff to clock at least 11.5 hours a day.

Those whose logged hours fall below 8 are allegedly asked to submit written explanations. And employees who consistently rank low in total working hours are reportedly subject to internal interviews, and in some cases, are pressured to resign.

What’s more concerning is that several Xiaomi employees confirmed these claims to Jiupai News, a Chinese media outlet. Inside accounts from employees suggest the situation varies depending on the department.

One employee from the company’s mobile phone division said each team seems to operate with its own baseline. In some groups, the minimum daily working hours are set at 10.5. While in others, it goes as high as 14 or 15 hours a day. Their own team reportedly operates with a 12.5-hour requirement.

According to Jiupai News, these expectations are not formally documented. Managers reportedly deliver them verbally to avoid leaving a paper trail.

A Xiaomi employee based in Shanghai told Jiupai News that their department enforces an 11.5-hour average, effectively creating a 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. workday.

Another employee, based in Jiangsu, claimed their team operates on a 12-hour schedule. Even then, they said, “the leader called me out because of my low ranking” in comparison to colleagues.

Taking leave can trigger overtime penalties

The system reportedly also penalizes employees for taking leave. According to several accounts, even a single day off in a month can drag the average daily working hours below 8, which triggers additional scrutiny. Workers are then expected to make up the time by staying late on other days.

Perhaps more concerning is how long this has reportedly been going on. One employee told Jiupai News that Xiaomi has been operating this way for nearly two years. The only thing new is the public attention.

Xiaomi logo

And the consequences for failing to meet expectations aren’t minor. One employee said they were required to submit a written reflection after logging fewer than 10.5 hours. In Beijing, another said that those who continue to rank low in work hours face warnings from management, and if things don’t change, their performance evaluation may be impacted.

Outsourced staff appear to face even stricter enforcement. One contract worker said that their department mandates exactly 11 hours of work each day, not averaged, but counted per day. If they work less than that, they’re called in the next morning. If it happens repeatedly, they risk immediate termination.

Xiaomi has yet to make an official comment on the situation.

Apple suggests iPhone 16 can be used without a case

Apple is breaking new ground with a bold claim: you don’t need a case for your iPhone 16. In a recent ad, the company touts the phone’s Ceramic Shield, suggesting it’s tough enough to handle drops without a scratch. This is a first for smartphone makers, who usually stay mum on going caseless—maybe to keep selling those pricey first-party cases or avoid drop-test backlash.

Apple’s latest ad is all about confidence in the iPhone 16’s durability. The video shows the phone surviving a dramatic drop, with the message that its Ceramic Shield—Apple’s fancy trademarked glass—has got your back. Unlike past ads that hyped toughness but stopped short of ditching cases, this one is saying, “Relax, it’s iPhone 16”. It’s a big shift in an industry where cases are practically a reflex buy.

The timing’s no coincidence. Chinese brands like Oppo and Realme are pushing IP69 dust and water resistance, while Corning’s Gorilla Armor 2 claims to shrug off 2.2-meter drops onto concrete-like surfaces. Apple is stepping up to match this durability arms race, signaling a new era where phones might not need extra protection.

But is it really safe to go careless?

The iPhone 16’s Ceramic Shield is “tougher than ever”, blending ceramic crystals with glass for better drop and scratch resistance. Still, real-world drops vary—think uneven pavement or a fumble onto tile. Apple’s ad is bold, but it’s also a calculated flex, banking on lab-tested strength to win over users tired of bulky cases.

The surface shown in Apple’s ad is a flat wooden platform, which is forgiving enough even for a flagship from three years ago. This ad also doesn’t clarify whether Apple would take any responsibility if the glass shatters due to a careless drop. It’s a confident message, sure, but a bit too safe in execution. We recently talked about using a smartphone without a case — even in 2025 — and you can check that out here.

That said, this news sparks a debate: case or no case? Some love the sleek feel of a bare phone, while others won’t risk a cracked screen. With Apple’s vote of confidence, more might ditch cases, but don’t be surprised if their case sales stay strong. What’s your take—bare iPhone 16 or cased up?

The Pixel a series is typically reserved for the brand’s mid range model that are more affordable than its flagship numbered lineup. So the Pixel 9a is no exception, offering cutdown specs and features that make it cheaper than the Pixel 9. One of these areas is the build quality. Unlike the Pixel 9 with a premium glass body, the Pixel 9a has a plastic rear panel, which is surrounded by an aluminum frame. It also measures 8.9mm in terms of thickness.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 13T is a budget flagship smartphone that even translates to its design. The build quality includes a metallic frame and a glass rear panel. This model is even slimmer, measuring just 8.15mm in thickness.

2. Performance

Google Pixel 9a
Google Pixel 9a

Google’s Pixel devices aren’t known for their cutting edge raw performance, with their focus being in other departments like AI. The Tensor G4 on the Pixel 9a is the same chip that powers the higher end Pixel 9 Pro, but it doesn’t compete with the Snapdragon 8 Elite found on the OnePlus 13T.

Not everyone needs top notch performance, but it does come in handy for gaming, intensive tasks, and makes the device more future proof. With Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, the OnePlus 13T is one of the fastest flagship Android smartphones on the market.

3. Battery and Charging

Despite having a thinner and marginally lighter body, the OnePlus 13T packs a massive 6,260mAh battery pack, which supports 80W wired fast charging. One of the notable upgrades the Pixel 9a received over the Pixel 8a was the bump to a 5,100mAh battery. However, this still pales in comparison to the OnePlus latest smartphone. It also lags behind by a notable margin in the charging department with only 23W wired fast charging. However, you do get 7.5W wireless charging support.

4. Competitive Pricing

Google Pixel 9a

Google unveiled the Pixel 9a last month with a starting price tag of 499 US Dollars for the 8GB + 128GB offering. While the 8GB + 256GB variant costs 599 US Dollars. In comparison, the OnePlus 13T was just announced in China for a starting price tag of 3,399 Yuan or roughly about 446 US Dollars. This is for the 12GB + 256GB variant, so you’re easily getting a much better value. We can assume a slight price hike in the overseas market release but it would still be a great value for this price range.

OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition key specifications, launch timeframe tipped

Several reports have claimed that OnePlus will unveil three smartphones in the second quarter of this year. Among these, the brand has already launched the OnePlus 13T today, and the remaining two Ace-branded smartphones will be equipped with the Dimensity 9400e and Dimensity 9400 Plus chipsets. Previous reports claimed that these devices would be called the Ace 5V and Ace 5S. However, a new leak by tipster Digital Chat Station reveals that the actual name of the Dimensity 9400e-powered device will be the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition.

OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition specifications (rumored)

OnePlus Ace 5 key specifications

According to DCS, the OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition will sport a 6.77-inch LTPS OLED display with a flat design. Under the hood, it may house the yet-to-be-announced Dimensity 9400e processor, which is rumoured to be a tweaked version of the Dimensity 9300 Plus chipset.

For selfies, the device is likely to come with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, while the rear setup could include a 50-megapixel main sensor paired with a 2-megapixel secondary lens. Additional details from the leak point to an optical fingerprint scanner embedded within the screen and the use of a plastic frame in its construction.

As per previous reports, the Ace 5 Racing Edition will feature a massive 7,000mAh battery. As far as the chipset is concerned, recent reports have revealed that the Dimensity 9400e may offer better performance than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Hence, it is expected to rival the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and the iQOO Z10 Turbo, which feature the said Snapdragon chipset.

OnePlus Ace 5 Racing Edition launch timeframe

As per a DCS Weibo post from earlier this week, OnePlus will unveil its dual Ace-branded flagship phones in the second half of May.
