This Dimensity 9400 GPU performance might disappoint you

MediaTek has constantly been on the headlines recently, mainly due to benchmark news about its upcoming Dimensity 9400 processor. It recently set a new record for the highest score on an Android phone in AnTuTu. Now, its GPU has made a run on another benchmarking platform, Geekbench.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 GPU Geekbench

The Dimensity 9400 features the Arm Immortalis-G925 MP12 GPU, which scored 16,257 points in Geekbench’s OpenCL benchmark.

While the score is higher than the Dimensity 9300, the new SoC is just 10% ahead of its predecessor. ARM, the GPU maker, has been touting the Immortalis-G925 as “the highest performing, most efficient GPU” to date. This Geekbench performance suggests otherwise, though.

However, before we write off the Dimensity 9400’s graphics prowess, important to consider the limitations of benchmarks. Geekbench offers a good starting point for gauging overall performance. However, it doesn’t always tell the whole story.

In this case, a previous leak suggests the Immortalis-G925 might perform better in real-world scenarios. According to the leak, the Dimensity 9400 might even outperform the Apple A18 Pro in the GFXBench Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulkan benchmark.

So, there’s still a chance the Dimensity 9400 could perform significantly better in real-world games and other intensive tasks.

Even if you walk through the raw specs, the Immortalis-G925 has some impressive specs. It has 12 compute units and a peak clock speed of 1.62 GHz, making it one of the fastest smartphone GPUs.

The benchmark was also conducted on an unreleased Vivo X200 series phone, so the test environment might not have been optimized for the Dimensity 9400.

The official launch of the Dimensity 9400 is scheduled for October 9th. This will hopefully provide a clearer picture of the Immortalis-G925’s true capabilities. Until then, it’s best to hold off on any definitive judgments based solely on Geekbench scores.

Snapdragon 8 Elite: More Than Just a Fancy New Name?

Qualcomm might be considering a new name for its flagship processor. The company was expected to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset next month, but new teasers showcase the chipset as the Snapdragon 8 Elite. But is it simply a name change or does the company have bigger plans?

Snapdragon 8 Elite

1. Snapdragon 8 Elite: What we know so far

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the direct successor to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is touted to be a major upgrade, considering it is moving from the 4nm to the 3nm, the first from the chipmaker. Reports have hinted that the new chip will offer a sizeable 56 percent improvement in performance compared to its predecessor. This bump in graphics performance is thanks to the new Adreno 830 GPU, which may have a 1.25Ghz clock speed and Ray Tracing support.

While a GeekBench listing showed a 4.09GHz boost clock speed, later rumors pointed at the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s two prime core offering frequency as high as 4.37GHz. Meanwhile, there are six efficiency cores that are expected to have a 2.78GHz clock speed. The GeekBench tests also showcased its synthetic benchmarks, scoring 3011 points in the single core test and 9706 points in the multi core test.

On the CPU front, these benchmarks suggest a 35 percent boost in single core performance and a 30 percent upgrade in multi core performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Xiaomi 15 and OnePlus 13 are the first to debut with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processors next month, so stick around for more updates.

2. Is “Elite” hinting at something more?

Just a while back, the chipmaker launched the Snapdragon X series of processors for ultrabooks. These include the Snapdragon X Elite for high end performance and battery efficiency on thin and light laptops, while the Snapdragon X Plus launched for more affordable notebooks. Looking at this name, it seems like Qualcomm might be developing chips across different products with similar names just like Apple.

To recall, Apple’s ARM based chips are spread across the A and M series for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. So the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon X Elite might be Qualcomm’s first step in bringing its different chip lines closer. In the future, the newer processors between the mobile and notebook processors may share cutting edge technologies.

For example, Qualcomm showed off impressive NPU scores on the Snapdragon X Elite which is great for AI powered features. Smartphone makers are launching their latest offerings with various AI functions, so even the Snapdragon 8 Elite should likely offer new hardware and optimizations for AI.

iQOO 13’s triple camera setup leaks in detail

It’s no surprise that iQOO is working on its next performance-oriented flagship, the iQOO 13. We have been hearing about it through leaks and rumors, and in a new one, tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed details about its camera setup.

iQOO 13 camera specifications

DCS keeps the phone’s name under wraps in the leak, but its likely that these specs belong to the iQOO 13. According to the tipster, the phone will feature a 50MP Sony IMX921 main sensor. It will replace the same resolution Omnivision OV50H sensor of the iQOO 12.

iQOO 13 camera specs

The ultrawide sensor will remain the same as its predecessor, a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1. For telephoto, iQOO will replace the 64MP 3x OmniVision sensor with a 50MP Sony IMX826 that will offer 2x optical zoom support.

The tipster, however, didn’t share details on the selfie camera. Rumors suggest it will be a 16MP sensor on the punch-hole cutout in front. Additionally, the tipster mentions the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, internally codenamed “SM8750.”

Rest of the specs

Apart from this, a previous report suggests the phone will feature a 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, likely manufactured by BOE.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip will be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. And on the software front, the iQOO 13 is tipped to run OriginOS 15 based on Android 15.

iQOO 12 Pro
iQOO 12

The phone is also expected to pack a hefty 6,100mAh dual-cell battery with support for 120W fast charging. Wireless charging is expected to reach 50W.

Additional features mentioned in earlier leaks include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, a metal middle frame, a signature Halo light strip, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. iQOO 13 may launch in India by early December price tag of around Rs 55,000.

Is buying the Motorola Edge 50 Neo Over Edge 50 Pro a smarter choice?

Motorola has recently launched two new smartphones in the Edge series: the Edge 50 Neo and the Edge 50 Pro. Both phones target different consumer segments with distinct price points and features. The question for most buyers comes down to this: is the Edge 50 Neo a better value proposition than the Edge 50 Pro? Let’s break it down.

Motorola Edge 50 Neo

1. Display and Design

The Edge 50 Pro features a larger 6.7-inch 144Hz curved pOLED display, which boasts Pantone validation for accurate colors, HDR 10+ support, and a peak brightness of 2000 nits. The Edge 50 Neo, on the other hand, offers a slightly smaller 6.4-inch flat pOLED 120Hz LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution and a brighter peak of up to 3000 nits.

While the Pro’s higher refresh rate and Pantone validation might be appealing to display enthusiasts, the Neo’s flat display is more practical, especially for those who prefer flat screens for ease of use and reduced accidental touches.

Both phones come with MIL-STD 810H and IP68 ratings, making them highly durable and resistant to dust and water. Alongside the Pro model, the Neo also has a vegan leather finish, which adds to its premium feel and may appeal to users looking for a stylish yet functional design.

Please Note: When you buy something using the links in our articles, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

2. Performance and Software

The Pro model is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and offers up to 12GB of RAM, while the Neo features a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor with 8GB of RAM. For daily tasks and casual gaming, the Neo’s Dimensity 7300 is more than sufficient, but if you’re looking for more robust gaming or intensive multitasking, the Pro’s Snapdragon chipset will likely provide a smoother experience.

Both devices run Android 14, but the Neo offers an edge with 5 OS updates and 5 years of security updates, compared to the Pro’s promise of 3 OS updates. This means the Edge 50 Neo offers better longevity, making it a more future-proof choice for users who plan to hold onto their phone for a longer period.

3. Camera

When it comes to cameras, both phones are no slouches. The Edge 50 Neo packs a 50MP main camera with a Sony LYT-700C sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 30x hybrid zoom, and a 32MP front camera offering a solid array of options for everyday photography.

The Edge 50 Pro on the other hand also features a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 50x hybrid zoom, along with a 50MP front camera for better selfies.

While the Pro has better camera capabilities, including AI photo enhancement and a Pantone-validated camera for true-to-life colors, the Edge 50 Neo’s camera is more than adequate for users who want great photos without the need for advanced features like the 50x zoom.

4. Battery and Charging

The Pro holds a slight edge in terms of battery life with its 4500mAh capacity compared to the Neo’s 4310mAh. However, both devices support fast charging, with the Neo offering 68W Turbo charging and the Pro supporting an impressive 125W wired fast charging.

The Neo also includes 15W wireless charging, while the Pro supports 50W wireless and 10W reverse charging. For most users, the difference in wired charging speeds may not be significant enough to justify the Pro’s higher price.

5. Price Consideration

One of the most significant factors when deciding between these two models is the price. The Edge 50 Neo is priced at Rs. 23,999, whereas the Edge 50 Pro starts at Rs. 31,999 for the 8GB/256GB version and goes up to Rs. 35,999 for the 12GB/256GB model. For most users, the 8GB/256GB Edge 50 Neo offers more than enough storage and power at a significantly lower price point, making it the more economical option.

6. Does the Edge 50 Neo Make More Sense?

For users who don’t require extreme performance or advanced camera features, the Motorola Edge 50 Neo is a better value proposition. It offers a fantastic display, solid camera setup, sufficient performance for daily tasks, and a more attractive price. The 5 years of OS and security updates also make it a long-term investment.

On the other hand, if you need better camera features, faster performance for gaming, or extreme charging speeds, the Edge 50 Pro might justify its higher price. But for the average user, the Edge 50 Neo makes more sense as the smart choice.

We have also discussed recently why Motorola phones are great, but some software fixes could make them unstoppable. Read our article to know more.

Another Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagship spotted in Real-Life Image

An image of a smartphone in a protective case recently surfaced on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging site), which netizens initially speculated to be the Huawei Mate 70.

However, Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station now claims that the phone in question is actually the Nubia Z70 Ultra, citing its design elements. He pointed out the red power button and another button positioned similarly to the iPhone 16 series’ capture button, which he referred to as a ‘photo button.’ This suggests that Nubia’s upcoming flagship might feature a similar addition to the iPhone 16 series, potentially making the cameras more accessible.

Nubia Z70 Ultra: what we know so far

Apart from the buttons, the phone also adopts a 1.5K display along with an under-panel camera, which makes it the first phone to offer the combination. It should offer a more immersive display experience as compared to the Nubia Z60 Ultra and most other flagships in the market at present.

To improve the image quality of the under-panel camera, the company has reportedly reduced the pixel density of the translucent area. The more pixels the tiny display panel in front of the lens will have, the less light will pass through it. So manufacturers have to keep the pixel density very low to allow as much light as possible.

Nonetheless, the Nubia Z70 Ultra reportedly offers improved picture quality with its under-panel selfie camera as compared to its predecessor.

Not to mention the phone will equip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which will likely be released next month. The phone is also expected to be released sometime in Q4 this year.

What to expect?

Last year Nubia launched the Nubia Z60 Ultra around mid-December with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 50MP+64MP+50MP camera setup on the back. A notable aspect of the camera system was the 35mm focal length for the main camera, which is very unique for smartphones.

While details about the successor are still unclear, we should expect a similar or more capable camera setup alongside improved performance.

These are the first phones outside of Samsung and Google to support Circle to Search

After a flurry of leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has finally launched the successors of their well-received 13T series – the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro. The duo sticks to a familiar formula, offering flagship-level specs at a more affordable price.

Along with the expected hardware upgrades, they are also the first phones outside of Samsung and Google to support Android’s Circle to Search feature. Let’s take a closer look at their specs and features.

Xiaomi 14T / 14T Pro Specifications

Both the 14T and 14T Pro feature vibrant 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate. This year, Xiaomi has bumped up the peak brightness to an impressive 4,000 nits and you also get 3840Hz PWM Dimming, 10-bit color depth and HDR 10+, and Dolby Vision certification.

Both phones also boast IP68 dust and water resistance, so you don’t have to worry about accidental splashes or spills.

Xiaomi 14T Pro Specs Launch Price

While the display is the same, the main difference between the duo is the processor. The 14T Pro is powered by a flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip with a high-performance 3.4GHz Cortex-X4 core and an upgraded Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU for smooth gaming and demanding tasks. It comes with either 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, ensuring seamless multitasking.

The standard 14T opts for the Dimensity 8300-Ultra, which still offers solid performance for everyday use. It comes with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM for a smooth user experience.

Fueling the phones is the same 5000mAh battery but the 14T Pro charges faster with its 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The 14T stays behind with 67W wired charging and, unfortunately, lacks wireless charging entirely.

The camera setups also differ between the two models. The 14T Pro features a triple-camera system with a larger 1/1.31-inch 50MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens with a slightly longer reach, and a 12MP ultrawide sensor.

The standard 14T, on the other hand, uses a smaller 1/1.56-inch 50MP main sensor and a slightly shorter 50mm telephoto lens paired with the same 12MP ultrawide sensor. While still capable, it offers a slight step down in image quality compared to the Pro model.

Both phones run Xiaomi’s HyperOS based on Android 14. It’s the first phone outside of Samsung and Pixel-bubble to support Google’s Circle to Search feature, although it will go live on October 6.

There are other Google Gemini-powered AI tools as well, including AI Film editing, AI Interpreter, AI Notes, AI Recorder, and AI Subtitles.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 14T starts at €650 for the 12GB/256GB variant and comes in Titan Gray, Titan Blue, Titan Black, and a unique faux leather Lemon Green option. The 14T Pro starts at €800 for the 12GB/256GB model and comes in Titan Gray, Titan Blue, and Titan Black. Both phones are available for purchase now with pre-orders shipping in a few days.

As a launch promotion, Xiaomi is offering a free Redmi Pad Pro (6/128GB) with the 12/256GB 14T and an 8/256GB Redmi Pad Pro with the 12/512GB 14T. The 14T Pro gets a Redmi Pad 6 (6/128GB) with the 12/256GB model and an 8/256GB Redmi Pad with the larger storage variants.

Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 FE brings first Exynos e-processor, 7 years of updates

Samsung‘s Galaxy S series “Fan Edition” (FE) has become a reliable option for those seeking a taste of flagship features without the flagship price tag. The company has introduced a new member in the line, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, which offers a familiar design but with some key upgrades under the hood. Let’s get into the details here.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE Overview

Visually, the S24 FE doesn’t stray far from its predecessor. It retains the sleek, near bezel-less design with a centered punch-hole camera for the 12MP selfie shooter. The display remains a large, 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a smooth, up-to-120Hz refresh rate. This means you’ll get excellent viewing angles and a responsive experience for browsing, gaming, and watching videos.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

The biggest change comes with the processor. The S24 FE is powered by an all-new Exynos 2400e, the first e-series Exynos processor. Samsung didn’t spill the details on its core configuration or clock speed, but it’s likely a slightly downclocked variant of the regular Exynos 2400. Most importantly, there are no regional variants in the chip, Samsung will ship the phone with Exynos 2400e everywhere.

As for the camera, you get three of them at the back headlined by a 50MP main sensor. The wide-angle camera comes in at 12MP while the third sensor on the back is an 8MP 3x optical zoom telephoto lens. Selfies are handled by an 10MP camera on the front.

The S24 FE also brings Samsung’s ProVisual camera engine for the first time in an FE series phone. It improves Nightography, optimizes colors in Super High Dynamic Range photos and videos, and improves the quality of the 50MP main sensor.

Not to forget, you also get the complete suite of Galaxy AI photo editing features like Generative Edit, Portrait Studio, Edit Suggestions, and Instant Slow-mo out of the box. The software side is handled by One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. It will get 7 years of the platform as well as security patch updates.

Samsung Galaxy S24 FE
Samsung Galaxy S24 FE

The Galaxy S24 FE packs a larger 4,700mAh battery compared to the previous model. And when it comes time to recharge, the phone supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Following the trend of the S24 series, the S24 FE incorporates recycled materials in its body. This includes plastics, aluminum, glass, and even rare earth elements. It has IP68 dust and waterproof resistance for protection and comes with 5G, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), and Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity.

Availability and Pricing

You can now pre-order the phone and it will hit store shelves on October 3rd. The base model with 128GB of storage comes in at $649.99. It’s a $50 increase from last year’s S3FE which start at $599.99. Color options for the device include Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint, and Yellow.
