iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus Launched With New Design, Camera Button, and More

The latest-generation iPhone 16 series is here. The lineup comprises the standard, plus, pro, and pro max variants. These arrive as the successors to last year’s iPhone 15 models. Alongside the new smartphones, Apple has also unveiled AirPods 4 and Watch Series 10. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come with incremental upgrades over their predecessor. Apple Intelligence is the main highlight of this year’s models. Read on to know everything below.

iPhone 16, 16 Plus debut

The most notable change on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus is in design. Apple has gone back to the iPhone X-era by ditching the square camera island and a diagonal sensor placement found on recent-generation iPhones. The new models have a protruding pill-shaped camera module with the sensors stacked vertically. The Cupertino-based tech giant has also parted ways with the legacy mute switch in favor of the Action Button found on last year’s Pro models. Apple has retained the same frosted glass back panel on the iPhone 16 duo. Surprisingly, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus also feature a dedicated camera button (more about it below).

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus come with the same OLED screen measuring 6.1 and 6.7 inches as their predecessor. There is a dynamic island and the display packs 2,000 nits peak brightness.

On the optics front, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus feature the same cameras as their predecessor. This means a 48MP main lens with 2x telephoto and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The latter also lets you shoot macro images. The phones are also capable of shooting spatial photos and videos, which were limited to the pro models previously. The camera button will work similarly as a DSLR shutter button. A light press will focus on the subject whereas full press will capture the image. Notably, the button is also touch sensitive, so sliding on it will enable adjusting settings like zoom.

Under the hood, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are powered by an A18 processor. Both pack 8GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. The devices will also be able to run Apple Intelligence features (releasing next month) that were shown off at the WWDC this year. The smartphones come with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and are capable of running AAA titles. There is a thermal sheet for higher sustained performance for gaming. Apple says that the iPhone 16 duo comes with a ‘big battery boost’, but the exact capacity remains unclear.

Other features on the iPhone 16 include a USB-C port, emergency SOS via satellite, WiFi-7, MagSafe charging, and more.

The iPhone 16 starts at $799 whereas the 16 Plus starts at $899 for the base 128GB variants. Pre-orders start today with sales commencing September 20.

The company also announced the AirPods 4, a much-needed upgrade to the AirPods 3 that debuted way back in 2021. This time, Apple has released two models of AirPods 4 – one is an entry-level offering and the other is a regular option.

The budget model lacks ANC whereas the premium offering comes with active noise cancellation that was previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro. Xiaomi 14T Pro rendering shows a refreshed camera island with Leica branding

The Xiaomi 14T Pro is expected to launch sometime in September, aligning with the release of the Xiaomi 13T Pro (review) last year. In the latest news, PassionateGeekz has released a rendering of the device showcasing a refreshed camera island design.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro also appears to pack a total of three cameras on the back, just as its predecessor. However, the cameras and the flash module are now placed in a square layout as opposed to the triangular one of the Xiaomi 13T Pro. The Leica branding is also moved to the center from the bottom left of the camera island. The rendering also shows a relatively simpler camera island design as compared to the predecessor when it comes to the edges.

Xiaomi 13T Pro

Moving on to the front, the render shows a very similar design with slightly slimmer bezels. The placement of Xiaomi branding on the back and buttons on the sides also appears to remain identical as compared to the predecessor.

What we know so far:

According to a previous leak, the camera setup equips the LEICA VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.6-2.2/15-60 ASPH lenses. The main camera reportedly adopts the 1.1.31″ Light Fusion 900 sensor.

The 12GB + 512GB version of the Xiaomi 14T Pro is expected cost around €899, while the 12GB + 256GB version of the standard Xiaomi 14T is said to be priced at only €649. We were at IFA Berlin this year, scoping out some of the coolest tech on display. A lot of consumer brands showed up at the event, flexing their best gear and dropping new launches.

Here’s a quick look at Best standout products that we spotted at IFA Berlin 2024:

6. Switchbot Wireless Charger

Switchbot brought their A-game with an air purifier table that doubles as a wireless charger at the event this year. This multi-tasking device serves as a charger, regular table, and air purifier all in one. It’s compatible with Qi wireless charging for both Android and iOS. The whole setup looked slick and would fit right in as a bedside table.

More on the brand’s tiniest robot vacuum here.

5. Honor AI Agent

honor-ai-agent

Honor dropped news of their AI Agent at the event, set to debut on the Magic 7 series. It’s exactly what it sounds like – an AI assistant that speeds up tasks on your phone. Imagine unsubscribing from a service with just a voice command; the AI takes care of the legwork and brings you straight to the final unsubscribe button for confirmation. The brand teased a bunch of tasks during the keynote, so we’re excited to see how well this feature performs at launch.

Check out our article on the AI Agent launch here for more information.

4. Honor Magic V3

Honor-Magic-V3-hands-on

The Honor Magic V3 is hands down one of the sickest foldables out there right now. It’s the thinnest foldable you can get your hands on—stack it next to a regular smartphone, and you’ll barely notice a difference in thickness. That alone is impressive, but also factor in the massive outer and inner displays, solid build quality, and sweet color options, and you’ve got yourself a top-notch foldable.

More details in our Magic V3 launch story.

3. Honor MagicBook Art 14

Honor-Magicbook-Pro-Art-14

I wasn’t expecting much from the MagicBook Art 14, but getting hands-on with it changed my mind real quick. The sleek design, featherlight body, and matte finish blew me away. Sitting next to my MacBook, the 14-inch MagicBook felt way more compact. The cherry on top? The removable magnetic camera you can flip around to record yourself or the person across from you during meetings. Now that’s cool and innovative.

You can get more information from our launch story on the MagicBook Art 14.

2. Lenovo Auto-twist Laptop

Lenovo showed off a voice-controlled called Lenovo Auto-Twist laptop just before IFA Berlin. This prototype responds to voice commands – tell it to open, twist, or switch to tablet mode. I’m not sold on how practical this is, given how slow it moved after each command, but maybe they’ll refine it before the final product drops.

Keep in mind, Lenovo was MIA at IFA, so I couldn’t check out the prototype in action.

More details in our story here.

1. DJI Neo

DJI-NEO-hands-on

DJI’s Neo mini drone is their tiniest yet, aimed at the everyday enthusiast. Weighing in at just 135 grams, it’s the lightest in the series and comes packed with 6 shooting modes, smartphone controls, and a range up to 50m.

DJI had set up a mini arena for visitors to test fly the drone, showing how easy it is for average Joes to pilot this thing.

3 Key Reasons Why the Honor Magic V3 Outshines the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

The Honor Magic V3 made its global debut at IFA 2024, introducing new innovations to the foldable smartphone segment. But how does it stack up against Samsung’s established premium foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6? Here are three reasons why the Honor Magic V3 might just outshine the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Honor Magic V3 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
Honor Magic V3 (L) vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (R)

1. Honor Magic V3 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Design & Display

One of the biggest innovations with the Magic V3 is the improvements in design. Honor didn’t throw a “fat” jab at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 for no reason. For those unaware, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 12.1mm in thickness, while the Magic V3 is just 9.2mm thick. There is nearly 3mm in difference, which is quite a feat. You could even say that it’s a generation ahead of the competition. Honor is also claiming that the Magic V3 is rated to last 500,000 fold cycles.

This device also offers taller primary and cover screens compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Honor’s Magic V3 sports a 6.43-inch OLED external screen with curved edges offering an FHD+ resolution. The primary display is a 7.92-inch OLED panel that offers a resolution of 2,344 x 2,156 pixels. Both screens feature a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits. On the other hand, the Z Fold 6 features a 7.6-inch internal and a 6.3-inch external screen with a Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It offers a 2160 x 1856 resolution on the primary screen, while the cover display has a 2376 x 968 resolution.

Please Note: When you buy something using the links in our articles, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

2. Bigger Battery & Faster Charging

The Magic V3 packs a large 5,150mAh battery pack, which is bigger than most foldable smartphones of its kind. This cell also supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. Both the charging and battery capacity once again outclasses the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung’s flagship foldable phone packs a 4,400mAh battery unit with support for 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. So overall, you’re not just getting a bigger battery but the lesser down time since the Magic V3 charges faster. Processor and optimizing also play a role, but both models feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

3. Camera

Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with a triple camera setup on the rear with a 50-megapixel primary sensor (OIS), a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter (OIS, 3x Zoom), and a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. For selfies and video calls, users get a 10-megapixel shooter on the cover display and a 4-megapixel under display camera on the primary screen.

While these are quite capable, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 falls short of the Galaxy S24 Ultra in camera despite being more expensive. The Magic V3 arrives with Honor’s Falcon Camera system. This consists of a 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch main sensor (OIS), a 40-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (100x digital zoom, OIS). For selfies and video calls, it packs a 20MP camera on the internal and external screens.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra tipped to pack a 50 MP ultrawide; Here are the possible benefits

While the release of the Galaxy S25 series is still months away, several rumors have already surfaced, particularly about the Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to one of the precious rumors, the phone will feature an upgraded 50 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

50 MP ultrawide sensor for the Galaxy S25 Ultra

In a recent leak, tipster Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will sport a 50 MP ultrawide sensor. According to the tipster, the sensor measures 1/2.52″, with a pixel size of 0.7μm, and is paired with a wider f/1.9 aperture for better light capture.

For comparison, the current Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 12 MP ultrawide camera with a sensor size of 1/2.55″ and an aperture of f/2.2.

Possible benefits of the resolution upgrade

A 12 MP ultrawide sensor can’t meet the 33.2 MP minimum resolution requirement for 8K video recording. However, with the rumored 50 MP sensor, it would now be possible for the Galaxy S25 Ultra to support 8K video recording from both the main and ultrawide cameras. This upgrade would also enhance video stability due to the ultrawide lens’ wider field of view.

The higher 50 MP resolution brings several benefits, such as room for EIS stabilization when recording in 8K. However, a trade-off is that the field of view may become narrower. Nonetheless, pairing the ultrawide lens with digital stabilization could result in smoother 8K video output.

In addition to the 50 MP 3x telephoto and ultrawide cameras, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will retain the 50 MP 5x periscope telephoto and the 200 MP main camera from the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This setup could allow 8K video recording from all four rear cameras, with potential support for lens switching during recording.

The 50 MP ultrawide sensor will also allow for cropping photos without significant loss of detail, similar to what Samsung has showcased with its high-resolution main cameras.

Huawei’s tri-folding Mate XT already racks up 3 million reservations in China

Just hours after Apple unveils its iPhone 16 lineup, Huawei is set to launch its tri-fold phone with the Mate XT Ultimate Design. And it seems Chinese consumers are already warming up to the idea.

Huawei opened pre-reservations for the Mate XT on September 7 and within just two days, the phone has already amassed a staggering 3 million reservations. That’s a clear sign of interest, even if it doesn’t necessarily translate to sales. If you’re interested, you can grab one by reserving before September 19 for the official launch on September 20.

Speaking of grabbing one, the Mate XT comes in four color options: Dark Black, Crimson Red, classic White, and a more adventurous Green. Storage-wise, you can choose between a hefty 16GB RAM paired with either 512GB or 1TB of storage.

Now, let’s talk specs (with a healthy dose of “allegedly”). Rumors suggest the Mate XT unfolds to reveal a massive 10-inch display, complete with a punch-hole selfie camera (rumored to be 8 megapixels).

On the back, the camera system is said to boast a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a periscope telephoto lens for those zoomed-in moments. Powering the whole thing is supposedly a Kirin 9-series chipset, though specifics remain under wraps.

As for the rest of the specs? We’re still in rumor territory. The price tag is also a mystery, although whispers point to a hefty 15,000 Yuan (roughly $2,100) in China. With that price and it being a first-gen foldable, Huawei might limit the Mate XT’s availability in its home market for now.

This wouldn’t be surprising, as durability concerns have plagued the early days of foldable phones. Huawei undoubtedly knows this, and we’ll have to wait for the official reveal on September 10th to see if they’ve addressed those concerns.

Vivo X200 series will launch in early-October to rival iPhone 16 series

With the iPhone 16 launch kicking off the fall refresh cycle, Android manufacturers are gearing up for their own counterpunches.

OnePlus already confirmed the October launch of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered flagship, while the Xiaomi 15 series with the same SoC is also expected to arrive in the same month.

Now, a report by Wall Street China suggests the X200 series will land in early October as well. But unlike its rivals, Vivo will take a different chip route.

The X200 series is expected to forgo the upcoming Snapdragon for MediaTek’s challenger, the Dimensity 9400.

The leaks suggest two models in the lineup: the standard X200 and the X200 Pro. The base model is expected to come with a 6.3-inch flat OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a respectable 1.5K resolution.

Camera-wise, we’re looking at a 50-megapixel 22nm Sony sensor for the main module, a periscope lens with 3x optical zoom, and an ultrawide lens. It will be powered by a hefty 5,500mAh or 5,600mAh capacity and will support both wired and wireless charging.

The X200 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to come with a curved 1.5K resolution 120Hz panel.  The camera setup on the back will include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, a 50-megapixel primary sensor with a large aperture (likely the same 22nm Sony sensor), and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

The X200 Pro may also pack a larger 6,000mAh battery. Rumors suggest it will include water resistance (rated IP68 or IP69) and an improved X-axis motor for better haptic feedback.

On the software side, both phones will come pre-loaded with Android 15-based Origin OS. There’s not much detail on the pricing yet, even in the leaks and rumors.

Realme Narzo 70 Turbo launches in India with Dimensity 7300, up to 12GB of RAM

As expected, Realme today expanded its Narzo 70 lineup by launching the Narzo 70 Turbo in India. The new phone sits in an entry-level mid-range space with an emphasis on performance, especially for gaming. Let’s see if the Turbo lives up to its name.

Realme Narzo 70 Turbo Specifications

The Narzo 70 Turbo boasts the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chipset with a top clock speed of 2.5GHz for the prime Cortex-A78 core and Mali G615 GPU for graphics.

This is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Realme even throws in an additional 2GB of “Dynamic RAM” for a total of 14GB, although we doubt it will be any useful.

The phone’s biggest draw for gamers might be its new GT Mode. It includes performance optimization, faster game startup times, visual filters to enhance in-game visibility, and even a voice changer for some lighthearted fun.

The 120Hz refresh rate display with a 180Hz touch sampling rate further enhances the gaming experience.

The Narzo 70 Turbo isn’t all about gaming, though. Its 6.67-inch FHD+ Samsung E4 OLED display offers vibrant colors and sharp visuals for everyday use, protected by AG DT Star 2 glass for added scratch resistance. It has a Moto-Sport-inspired design on the back.

A 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging ensures you can stay powered through the day, while the inclusion of a microSD card slot provides expandable storage.

The camera system is a bit modest, featuring a 50MP primary sensor with a secondary 2MP sensor. While it won’t compete with high-end flagships, it should be sufficient for capturing decent everyday photos. A 16MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.

Realme throws in some bonus features to sweeten the deal. The phone boasts IP65 water and dust resistance for added peace of mind, and a 6050 mm2 stainless steel VC cooling system promises to keep things from overheating during intense gaming sessions. There’s also a rain-detection mode that adjusts touch sensitivity for wet conditions, dual stereo speakers for immersive audio, and a TUV SUD certification for lag-free gaming.

Price and Availability

The Narzo 70 Turbo starts at Rs 16,999 for the base 6GB/128GB variant. The higher 8/128GB and 12/256GB models have retail prices of Rs 17,999 and Rs 20,999 respectively.

Realme is also offering a Rs 2,000 discount coupon, bringing the effective starting price down to Rs 14,999. The phone goes on sale from September 16th via Amazon and Realme’s official website in three color options: Turbo Yellow, Turbo Purple, and Turbo Green.
