<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/goodix/">Goodix</a>, a prominent player in the technology industry, is set to roll out its ultrasonic under-display <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/fingerprint-sensor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fingerprint sensor</a> for mass production by the end of this year, according to Digital Chat Station. The top 5 Chinese smartphone brands are currently in discussions with Goodix regarding the sensor. This development comes with the promise of cost savings compared to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Qualcomm</a>&#8216;s similar technology.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="835" height="405" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor.jpg?x10805" alt="ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor" class="wp-image-566032" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor.jpg 835w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-300x146.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-768x373.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-696x338.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px" /></figure></div>

<h2>Affordable alternative to Qualcomm!</h2>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ultrasonic-fingerprint-sensor/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ultrasonic under-display fingerprint</a> sensors offer a range of inherent advantages over their optical counterparts. Most notably, they can unlock devices even when the screen is off, eliminating the need for blindingly bright screens during nighttime unlocks. Additionally, these sensors are adept at functioning underwater or with wet hands, enhancing their usability in various conditions.</p>

<p>The fundamental working principle of Goodix&#8217;s technology involves utilizing sound waves to scan the pores in the fingerprint area, constructing a three-dimensional model of the user&#8217;s fingerprint. When unlocking the device, the sensor compares the real-time fingerprint model with the previously recorded one, resulting in a notably higher recognition rate. This technology offers improved accuracy, making it capable of recognizing &#8220;wet&#8221; or &#8220;dirty&#8221; fingers, which are often challenging for optical solutions.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="442" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-1024x442.png?x10805" alt="DCS ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor leak" class="wp-image-566040" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-1024x442.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-300x130.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-768x332.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-696x301.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-1068x461.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak-972x420.png 972w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/DCS-ultrasonic-under-display-fingerprint-sensor-leak.png 1111w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Furthermore, the Digital Chat Station hinted at an exclusive period for a certain brand to utilize Goodix&#8217;s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor solution.</p>

<p>After this exclusivity period, it is expected that other brands will follow suit in adopting this technology. While there is speculation that the exclusive brand may be from the EU+ region, specific details remain undisclosed.</p>

<p>The brand is best known for its in-display fingerprint sensors, however, in recent years, it has expanded its portfolio by heavily investing in the development of Bluetooth LE, NB-IoT, health monitoring solutions, etc. Now, the company has released new Bluetooth LE SoC dubbed the GR5526 series and a Time of Flight (ToF) solution. So let&#8217;s take a look at what these new chips are capable of.</p>
<h3><strong>Goodix GR5526 Bluetooth LE SoC series</strong></h3>
<p>The new GR5526 series SoCs are low-power Bluetooth 5.3 supported SoCs with ARM Cortex]-M4F core at their center. The company claims that the GR5526 series “can be configured as a Broadcaster, an Observer, a Peripheral and a Central while supporting the use of the combinations of all these roles”.</p>

<p>It comes with a dedicated GPU enabling it to output display with up to 454×454 and 30FPS. It is also up to 30% more power-efficient than its predecessor making it ideal for high-end smartwatches, human interface devices (HIDs), and IoT products.</p>
<h3><strong>ToF solution</strong></h3>
<p>The newly announced Time of Flight solutions by Goodix is a 3D sensing solution combining the ToF image sensor and a laser driver allowing for more accurate photo bokeh effects, and faster-focusing capability at night or in low light situations. It also offers better ambient light suppression, anti-interference, and high dynamic range (HDR). This technology will most likely be implemented in smartphones, drones, etc.</p>
<p>Other than these launches, insiders have also informed us that Goodex&#8217;s health solution will be featured in the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi Band 7 which is set to launch on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/05/20/xiaomis-mi-band-7-launch-24-may/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">May 24</a>.</p>

The phones were revealed with extensive information and details about their specs and features. But you might&#8217;ve missed one feature of the Xiaomi 12 Pro that&#8217;s quite quirky.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-433678" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-768x1024.jpeg?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="928" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-225x300.jpeg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-696x928.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-1068x1424.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02-315x420.jpeg 315w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-Pro-02.jpeg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes equipped with a bezel-less display leaving little to no room for sensors to be fitted on the front panel. However, the company has found a way around this problem as they&#8217;ve equipped the 12 Pro with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Goodix/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Goodix</a>’s first in-display light sensor.</p>
<p>The sensor provides an interesting functionality in the Xiaomi 12 Pro enabling it to adjust brightness and color intensity by detecting the color temperature of the ambient light. Other than the usual auto-brightness and color adjustments, the sensor also helps the device when it comes to photography by minimizing the interference of screen light and allows hardware-level high-precision measurement of correlated color temperature and illuminance. Additionally, the sensor also works as a proximity detector.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-433766" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 12 Pro" width="1018" height="636" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714.png 1018w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714-300x187.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-28-213714-672x420.png 672w" sizes="(max-width: 1018px) 100vw, 1018px" /></p>
<p>The sensor adds to the impressive spec sheet of the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which already consists of a 6.73-inch 2K+ LTPO AMOLED with HDR10+, 521 ppi pixel density, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device houses a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 8 Gen 1</a> SoC, which is be clubbed together with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The device is powered by a 4500mAh battery, supporting Xiaomi&#8217;s latest 120W fast charging technology.</p>
<p>The Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with three 50MP snappers in the camera department comprised of 50MP <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sony-imx707/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IMX707</a> primary (1/1.28″, 1.22µm), 50MP telephoto, and 50MP ultrawide cameras.</p>
<p>The Xiaomi 12 lineup&#8217;s real-world performance will soon be revealed with all its quirks and features as the device is slated to go on sale starting December 31st in China. So, stay tuned for more.</p>

Notably, the heart rate and blood oxygen sensor is from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/goodix/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Goodix</a>, which has also supplied these sensors for the company&#8217;s Watch series. Goodix is also the supplier for the Band 2&#8217;s Low Energy Bluetooth SoC.</p>

<p>Interestingly, while the brand has yet to announce the availability details for the Indian market, a recent leak has revealed some information regarding its launch. According to tipster Yogesh Brar (Via <a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/realme-band-2-india-launch-timeline-strap-colours-exclusive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>91Mobiles</em></a>), the new fitness tracker will be available in the region sometime in the month of October 2021. <p>According to a <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/ce8b5a8e-214c-45c9-b972-6bdaf87fc0f9" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>FinancialTimes</em> </a>report, WaveTouch, a British based brand, has filed claims against the two Chinese tech giants. These claims have been filed in the District Court of Düsseldorf, one of the main European patent courts. For those unaware, Goodix is China&#8217;s largest developer of smartphone fingerprint sensors. WaveTouch has alleged that a system that it had developed to improve the accuracy of fingerprint sensors underneath the smartphone displays has been used by Goodix for a range of ultra thin chips.</p>
<p>Furthermore, this technology has since been shipped in millions of smartphones. Similarly, it also alleged that the Huawei has also used this chip technology into a number of its smartphones, like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-40/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mate 40</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-p40/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">P40</a> series. Unfortunately, Huawei and Goodix have decliend to comment on the matter at the moment. Additionally, both companies have until the end of March 2021 to file a defence to the claim.</p>

<p>Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, founder of WaveTouch told Financial times that he has &#8220;always been very much in favor of establishing [a] close and good cross border relationship between Europe and China as I think the mix of different backgrounds and cultures can create innovative solutions and ideas. Today, the majority of employees in WaveTouch are employed in our Shenzhen based subsidiary and in this light it saddens me even more to see this kind of behavior disrespecting intellectual property rights.”</p>

<p>The company noted that the acquisition marks a key step for Goodix as the company is working on a diversified strategy and integrating global engineering talent. It will help to accelerate <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/goodix">Goodix</a>&#8216;s ability to rapidly deliver integrated solutions for smart mobile devices and automotive applications, and expanding its customer base.</p>

<p>DCT has a strong focus on autonomous systems, and with Goodix&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/technology">technology</a> for different products in the automobile sector, the combined organization will further strengthen the company&#8217;s position in the market.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Being the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, Samsung was late to adopt in-display fingerprint technology. <p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/goodix/"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-120415" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix.jpg?x10805" alt="goodix" width="2000" height="1500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix.jpg 2000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px" /></a></p>
<p>Another Chinese tech company Goodix has unveiled its new innovative technology for mobiles which it calls in-display fingerprint sensor on the floor of MWC 2017.  The technology is the first of its kind in the world and it is integrated into the AMOLED display of mobile devices. The Goodix In-Display Fingerprint Sensor can transform a defined part of the display into a fingerprint sensor, thus removing the need for a fingerprint sensor button or a rear-mounted sensor.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/goodix-2/"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-120416" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-2.jpg?x10805" alt="goodix in-display fingerprint sensor" width="1920" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-2.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/goodix-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></a></p>
<p>The fingerprint technology also supports the latest curved displays which are presently the beautiful brides of flagships. As a result of the elimination of the need for a physical button under the display, the technology thus increases the screen-to-body ratio on smartphones using the technology. The Goodix In-Display fingerprint sensor is compact in size and has very low power consumption as well.</p>

<p>Goodix has got years of experience in the development of fingerprint recognition technologies and its solutions are used by mobile phone makers like Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, ZTE, LG, Nokia, and ASUS. So we expect the In-Display fingerprint sensor to be one great innovative technology that may find its way into smartphones soon.
