HMD may be preparing to expand its product lineup beyond phones with what looks like a very budget Bluetooth speaker. A new leak suggests that the company is working on a portable speaker called the HMD Boom E1, which is a basic sound piece. 

The leak comes from a known HMD tipster on X who goes by the name HMD_MEME’S, who shared both the specifications and images of the upcoming speaker. 

HMD Boom E1 Specifications (Rumored)

According to the information, the HMD Boom E1 uses a 4-ohm horn paired with a 52mm driver. It is capable of delivering a maximum output of 5W. That’s modest power by today’s standards, but fairly typical for compact speakers.

One notable feature is its IPX7 waterproof rating, so the speaker should be good to survive splashes, rain, and even brief submersion in water. This makes it suitable for outdoor use, whether that’s at the beach, near a pool, or during a short hike. 

Connectivity options appear simple but practical, with Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless audio and an AUX line-in for wired playback. There’s also a built-in microphone, which could allow the speaker to double as a basic speakerphone.

Moreover, the Boom E1 is said to pack an 800mAh battery and charges via a USB Type-C port. 

The leaked images show a fully blue, circular design. The front is covered by a fabric mesh, while the top carries the “HMD” logo. We can also spot physical controls — including power, volume up and down, and play buttons — on the bottom. There’s also a lanyard on the side to add a bit of portability.

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on pricing or launch timing. Based on specs, the HMD Boom E1 looks like a no-frills speaker aimed at the budget segment.

According to the report, HMD Global produces Nokia feature phones in India and China, with India serving as the largest market. The country not only absorbs the highest demand but also acts as an export hub for Nokia-branded devices.

Market data from IDC shows HMD dominates India’s feature phone landscape, with a 22.4 percent share by volume and about 30.7 percent by value. Shipments of feature phones in the country reached nearly 54 million units in 2024, underscoring the scale of demand that sustains Nokia’s presence.

For Nokia, extending the agreement secures its brand relevance in a segment it once defined worldwide. For HMD, the continued access to Nokia branding strengthens its presence in rural and urban markets where the name still resonates deeply.

Sources added that HMD’s future strategy involves expanding into HMD-branded smartphones, tablets, and potential collaborations with other companies, reducing its reliance on Nokia while continuing to build on the heritage of the brand. The extension effectively allows both companies to maintain operational stability in a market that remains central to global feature phone sales.

HMD Global, the Finnish company behind Nokia-branded smartphones and tablets, is stepping back from the US market. Citing ongoing economic and geopolitical challenges, the company has shut down its US web store and paused all device sales in the region — a significant retreat for a brand long associated with affordable, reliable phones.

HMD stated it is “scaling back” operations in the US. While the company didn’t go into specifics, it pointed to a “challenging geopolitical and economic environment” as the key reason. Industry reports suggest this likely refers to tariffs and trade policies that have squeezed profit margins for foreign manufacturers selling in the US.

As of now, HMD’s US storefront is offline. Some product pages remain up, but with either disabled “Where to buy” buttons or no purchasing options at all. A few devices, like the modular HMD Skyline, can still be found on third-party platforms such as Amazon, but it’s unclear how long those will remain in stock.

HMD says it will continue to honor warranties and provide support for existing devices through its global customer care network. However, there’s no word yet on how the move might affect US-based employees. The company only stated that it remains committed to supporting staff through the transition.

HMD was founded in 2016 after acquiring Nokia’s feature phone business from Microsoft. Over the years, it built a reputation for bringing back the Nokia name with modern twists, offering budget and mid-range Android phones aimed at value-conscious users. These aren’t smartphones and make no attempt to be. They’re deliberately simple, button-based devices built for users who either prefer minimalist phones or are seeking refuge from the overload of modern apps.

HMD has a history of reviving Nokia’s classics, and the 5710XA is a good example. Originally launched in 2022, it came with a clever design—true wireless earbuds hidden in the back and physical music controls along the side. The 2025 version is expected to keep the same charm but finally ditch Micro USB in favor of a USB-C port.

Nokia 130 and 150 Music editions were recently refreshed for the Indian market, now carrying the HMD branding. Both models are designed with audio in mind, featuring a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a powerful 2W rear speaker, dedicated music playback buttons, Bluetooth 5.0, and a 2,500mAh removable battery rated for up to 34 days of standby time. HMD Global has launched the HMD Aura², a successor to the Aura launched in Q2 last year. While this phone doesn’t pack impressive specifications (which we’ll explore shortly), it is made to last, which makes sense for many users.

You’ll be able to repair the phone yourself (like replacing a broken screen without having to buy a new one) with parts from iFixit.

HMD Aura² specs and features:

The phone is powered by the UNISOC SC9863A, which is paired with 4GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. HMD is using Android 14 (Go edition), which is designed to ensure a smooth and efficient user experience on low-end smartphones. So, while the core specs are not impressive, the lightweight software suggests it will be able to handle basic smartphone tasks like video streaming just fine.

Speaking of streaming, it comes with a 6.52″ HD (576 x 1280) display, which supports a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The display reaches 460 nits peak brightness, which means you’ll be able to use the phone in direct sunlight. The refresh rate could have been at least 90Hz for smoother scrolling. But the stock UI means no heavier animations, which often makes things worse in entry-level hardware.

One of the standout features of this phone is its 3.5mm headphone jack, which makes sense because otherwise, you’d have to invest in expensive Bluetooth earphones or leave without one. As for the cameras, it keeps things simple with a 13MP shooter on the back and a 5MP one on the front. Notably, the image samples shared by the company look impressive considering the price range and hardware.

HMD has just announced an interesting new smartphone during the IFA 2024 event. The company’s latest device is the HMD Fusion, which arrives with a unique modular design. This model was unveiled along with new Smart Outfits that are special cases that bring style and functionality. So let’s check it out.

HMD Fusion: What makes it special?

The HMD Fusion looks quite similar to the HMD Crest (review). Similar to the Skyline and Crest, the Fusion also comes with repairabilirty in mind, allowing for easy display, back cover, charging port, and battery repairs through iFixit. But what sets the Fusion apart is its modular design. The rear features a six-pin conector that allows it to take advantage of special cases, which HMD is calling ‘Smart Outfits’.

The overall design seems quite similar to the Moto Mods. But HMD is bringing another twist with these cases, since each Outfit not only brings a function but also brings changes in the software. Snapping on a new case, users get access to new hardware functions and software on the phone. HMD claims that certain cases unlock new interfaces and enhanced performance.

This includes a Flashy Outfit that adds a ring light around the front and rear cameras with a new camera effect on the camera app. A Rugged Outfit brings further protection with an IP8 rating for water and dust resistance. Users can even charge their devices wirelessly and the case offers an ICE button (in-case-of-emergency). There is also a Casual Outfit, which is a stylish case that arrives in multiple colors and minimal aesthetic.

The HMD Fusion sports a 6.56-inch HD+ LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, it is equipped with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, which is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 1TB via a microSD card slot. This model runs on the Android 14 and is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 33W wired fast charging.

For optics, ther rear has a 108-megapixel dual camera setup, while the front houses a 50-megapixel selfie shooter. Other notable features include an IP54 rating, a side mounted fingerprint scanner, Dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB Type-C port.

Pricing

The HMD Fusion was announced in a single black color options, which is priced at 249 Euros. Its release date has yet to be announced. The Flashy, Rugged, Wireless, and Gaming Outfits will be sold separately later this year and will cost between 39 Euros to 99 Euros.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 was considered one of the best camera phones of its time and HMD could also focus on the imaging capabilities of the upcoming device.

To recall, the Lumia 1020 comes with a 41MP rear camera and a 1.2MP selfie camera. For comparison, the iPhone 5s (from 2013) had only 8MP resolution for the back camera, whereas Nokia utilized the resolution to offer 4x lossless zoom at that time.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the internals of the upcoming HMD smartphone yet.

The recently released HMD Skyline packs a 108MP main sensor that has a sensor size of 1/1.67″. This is accompanied by a 50 MP 2x telephoto and a 13 MP ultrawide. On the front, the phone packs another 50 MP sensor for selfies. Speaking of the overall imaging capability, it has been well-received, especially for its price range.

The 108MP main camera is praised for capturing detailed and sharp images in good lighting conditions. It also includes Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to reduce blur in photos.

Given the upcoming device is largely inspired by the camera-centric Lumia 1020, it may offer similar if not better imaging capabilities as compared to the HMD Skyline.

After parting ways with Nokia’s branding, HMD made its smartphone debut in India with the Crest series and I finally got the chance to review the base model of the new lineup, the HMD Crest 5G. The sub-15K INR category is a segment for budget phones and the Crest is one of the latest contenders.

At this price point, value is king, and the HMD Crest 5G aims to deliver it all. Despite the tough competition, HMD has managed to include some standout features and a pretty nifty gimmick. So is it actually worth your money? Let’s find out.

HMD Crest 5G Review: Solid start with Robust Body & OLED Display

HMD wanted to make a strong first impression in this price range, which is reflected in the Crest’s design and display. While the design is subjective, this affordable phone does not feel cheap. HMD Crest might not stand out visually, nevertheless it makes up for it with build quality. This is thanks to the flat glass panel on the back which isn’t common in this range.

I received the sober Midnight Blue color option but the glittery effect adds some much-needed visual texture. It weighs 205 grams and measures just 8.4mm in thickness. Water splashes pose no threat to the HMD Crest since it has an IP52 rating.

On the front, the Crest sports a 6.67-inch OLED display that is protected by Dragon Trail glass. Bezels appear uniform at first glance till you see its chin. It offers FHD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 20:9 aspect ratio.

The screen is one of the phone’s strong points with sharp visuals and good colors, which is expected on an OLED. For those who frequently watch shows on streaming platforms, the HMD Crest supports Widevine L1 and HDR, ensuring a great viewing experience.

The OLED display certainly gives this phone an edge over the competition. However, it has one notable drawback. It lacks the option to switch between natural and vivid tones. This is a basic feature that many users would expect. The only tinkering allowed is with the white balance, which is somewhat disappointing.

The Big DIY Repair Gimmick

The feature that sets the Crest series apart from the crowd is DIY self-repairs. Even during the announcement, the ease of repair was a highlight. The company offers repair kits, genuine spare parts, and free guides, all available on their official website.

The repair tool kit is sold separately for 999 INR, although HMD included one in the review box. The guides provided on the website were useful, and the initial steps were straightforward. However, the process may still seem daunting to beginners, who might prefer having a professional handle the repairs.

Even I struggled a bit while putting it back together since the fingerprint reader’s cable refused to sit in its right place. Making smartphones easier to repair and providing access to parts for self-repair is already a couple of steps ahead of what most brands offer. While repairability is a valuable feature, it typically isn’t a major consideration for most buyers when choosing a phone.

Performance: Was Unisoc the right decision?

Addressing the elephant in the room, the UNISOC processor. The chip from UNISOC is often seen in entry level phones, but surprisingly, it wasn’t a dealbreaker here. UNISOC introduced affordable yet capable 5G processors in 2023, and our report found these chips to be quite underrated.

Based on synthetic benchmarks, the UNISOC T760 in the HMD Crest performs comparably to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and the Dimensity 7025. However, both Snapdragon and Dimensity processors remain strong alternatives in this category. So considering a switch to Qualcomm or MediaTek chips could be a strategic move in the future.

Performance throttling wasn’t an issue and the phone handled every day use and multitasking without any stutters. The 90Hz display made things feel pretty snappy as well. While the HMD Crest did get a bit warm during gaming, it didn’t get unconfortable or impact the overall experience. Playing BGMI,the phone maintained a stable 40FPS on the Ultra framerate setting. Since the HMD Crest isn’t designed as a gaming phone, it’s best suited for casual gaming.

Battery & Software

The Crest houses a large 5,000mAh battery pack that is fairly standard for this segment along with support for 33W wired fast charging. Combined with the stock Android 14 OS, the phone easily lasted through most of my day on a single charge. Charging took around an hour so there was no prolonged downtime either. I averaged just under 6 hours of screen-on time with moderate use. Decent all things considered, but not class-leading.

Aside for HMD’s “My Device” and Google’s preloaded apps, the phone is free from bloatware. However, the clean UI of stock Android can be a double-edged sword. While the experience is streamlined and straightforward, it lacks the customizability and additional features often found in the custom versions of Android offered by established companies like Samsung. So while the experience is clean, the software lacks unique flair that other manufacturers might provide.

A smartphone isn’t all about hardware and also blends software to establish brand identity. For a budget phone, this approach seems like a calculated choice by the company. Hopefully, HMD has more planned for us in this area. Additionally, the phone is promised only one major OS update and two years of security patches.

Camera

You should never base your smartphone purchase solely on camera resolution, and the HMD Crest demonstrates why. While the 50MP primary camera on the rear may sound impressive, similar to those found on flagship phones, the image quality is not on the same level.

In bright or well-lit conditions, the camera captures sharp images with plenty of detail. The HDR settings effectively enhance contrast in daylight scenes, providing a generally good experience. However, there were occasional issues with overexposure from the rear camera, even after adjusting the focus and exposure levels. Future software updates could address these issues to further improve photo quality.

In comparison to other budget phones like the Moto G64, the Crest falls short in one area. While the G64 features an ultra-wide-angle lens as a secondary camera, the Crest includes only a 2MP depth sensor. This depth sensor primarily aids in portrait shots and lacks a distinct function beyond complementing the main camera.

On the front, the phone features a 50MP sensor designed to ‘level up’ your selfie game. The front camera delivers decent performance with good detail and color in favorable lighting conditions. However, the shots often come out warmer than intended and occasionally suffer from blown-out highlights. With future software updates, HMD could address these issues to enhance the overall selfie experience.

Another area where this phone falters is in low light scenes from the front and back cameras. Night mode (including Night Selfie mode) raises exposure to brighten up shots, however, you trade it with flat colors, visible noise, and loss of details. There are times it works as intended, though, it’s a hit or miss for me. Videos are a hurdle as well. HMD Crest can shoot at 1080p@30fps from the selfie and rear camera. The videos captured are passable but stabilization is sorely lacking, leading to shaky recordings.

Verdict: Worth Buying on a Sale

HMD Crest has an official price tag of 14,999 INR but the discounts offered by the company bring it down to just under 13,000. Right now, it is listed on Amazon India for as low as 11,999 INR. So if you’re on a tight budget, the HMD Crest 5G offers a compelling value proposition in the budget smartphone segment.

Its vibrant OLED display, durable build, and focus on repairability set it apart from competitors like the Redmi 13 5G. Overall, the phone is a competitive choice for those seeking a reliable and affordable smartphone. The only phone I’d choose over this is the CMF Phone 1, but it is slightly more expensive with a 15,999 INR price tag.

The Nokia 235 4G (2024) is equipped with a 2.8-inch IPS display and a 2MP rear camera. It operates on a Unisoc T107 processor and the Nokia S30+ operating system. As previously reported, HMD Global is working on a new smartphone called the HMD Skyline. Renders of this new device were leaked earlier this month revealing a Nokia Lumia 920-inspired design. That said, the smartphone has now been spotted on Geekbench, revealing details about its inner workings.

As per the Geekbench listing, the smartphone comes with a motherboard codenamed “Tomcat”, which hosts 8GB RAM along with an octa-core processor that has 4 cores running at 1.96GHz, while the other four are firing at 2.40GHz. Based on these details, the processor is expected to be a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.

In addition to the processor, the Geekbench listing confirms that the device will launch with Android 14 onboard. Talking about its performance, it scores 1027 points on the single-core test and 2857 points on the multi-core test. Unfortunately, the Geekbench listing does not provide any further details about the device. Luckily, some specifications have previously leaked.

Going by a previous report, the HMD Skyline will feature an FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC. For optics, the device is said to debut with a 108MP main camera, paired with an ultra-wide camera and a third lens, which can either be a macro or a depth sensor. On the front, it is said to come with a 32MP selfie snapper.

The device is said to be powered by a 4,900mAh battery paired with 33W fast charging. The device is said to come with stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and IP67 water and dust proofing. While the pricing is not confirmed, rumors suggest that it could cost in the neighborhood of cost €520 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. We’ll have to wait and see if these leaks pan out since reports suggest that the brand is planning on launching the Skyline sometime in July.

HMD Global, the company currently in charge of Nokia smartphones, seems to be really leaning into nostalgia. Just last month, the company brought back the 90s classic Nokia 3210 smartphone with modern twists. And it seems they’re at it again with another phone.

We’ve heard before that HMD is cooking up something called the Skyline. Now, the first renders for the HMD Skyline have surfaced on X, courtesy of user @smashx_60. 

The renders show a phone reminiscent of the Fabula design language first introduced with the Nokia N9. But with its bright yellow color scheme, I can’t help but be reminded of the iconic Nokia Lumia 920.

While the design might be a trip down memory lane, the specs seem firmly rooted in the present. According to a previous report, Skyline will sport a modern FHD+ OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, a capable mid-range chipset.

On the back, the Skyline will flaunt a triple-camera system, featuring a 108MP main sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a macro or depth sensor. Selfies will be handled by a 32MP front-facing camera.

The phone will have a sizable 4,900mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging. Additionally, it is said to be IP67-rated for dust and water resistance.

Modern conveniences like an under-display fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers are also reportedly on the table. The software side is expected to be covered by Android 14, the latest iteration of Google’s mobile operating system.

After releasing the entry-level HMD Pulse series and the more affordable HMD Aura with the Unisoc T606 chipset, the company is seemingly focusing on a bit more capable mid-range devices that will boast relatively more capable chips and other equipment.

Today, the Twitter account HMD MEME’S has shared details about three new devices from the company – Nighthawk (codename), Tomcat (codename), and the last one from its Project Fusion (a prototype model). Reportedly, the Tomcat and the Nighthawk will bring some similarities in design and some other specifications with the existing Pulse series. But let’s take a look at the devices one by one.

HMD Tomcat:

We have previously seen the HMD Tomcat surfacing on Geekbench with an octa-core chipset that was alleged to be the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. It scored 965 and 2625 on single and multi-core tests respectively.

Now HMD MEME’S also claims that the phone will come with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip. While this is still not going to compete with others on its price range based on raw power, a new design with vibrant colors (which was one of the specialties of Nokia devices) paired with a high-resolution display and better cameras should be a welcome addition.

HMD Global previously released the entry-level repairability-focused Pulse series with three different models in Europe, all of which use the 12nm Unisoc T606 chipset. Now the company has launched a more affordable phone called the HMD Aura in Australia.

HMD Aura key specs and features:

HMD Aura comes with a 6.56″ 900 x 1600 resolution IPS LCD display on the front with similar bezels as the Pulse Pro. However, it comes with a water drop notch instead of a punch-hole-style cutout for the front camera. The phone offers a wider display than most in the market (16:9 as compared to 20:9).

The Aura is available in two different colors – Glacier Green and Indigo Black, which you can see in the images above.

The phone uses the 28nm Unisoc SC9863A1 (also used by the Nokia C31) chipset. For those interested in benchmarking, it scores around 160 in single-core and 725 in multi-core in the GeekBench 6 CPU test.

It comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 4GB RAM should be enough for regular web browsing, video streaming, and similar tasks.

HMD Aura equips a 5000mAh battery and supports 10W charging through a USB-C port. This phone also offers a 3.5mm headphone jack.

You get a 13MP main camera on the back with an auxiliary lens (like for depth mapping, which you shouldn’t care about) and a 5MP selfie camera on the front.

For security, the phone offers a back-mounted fingerprint scanner below the flash module. The phone comes with Android 13 out of the box.

Pricing and availability:

The HMD Aura is priced at AUD 180 (~$118) in the country. For reference, the HMD Pulse (4GB+128GB) is available for AUD 230 (~$150).

Nokia is one of the few brands offering a close-to-stock Android experience on its smartphones. This means that the brand doesn’t need to change much when Google releases a new version of Android OS. In other words, Nokia devices can get software before devices from many other brands, but the story has not played out that way in recent years.

Nokia hasn’t been impressive with the software rollout in recent years. But, like every year, we hope for some improvement from the brand. Anyway, if you have a Nokia smartphone, you must be wondering if that is eligible for the Android 15 upgrade; after all, the new OS is the talk of the town, for good reasons.

So, here are the Nokia phones that are most likely to get the Android 15 update:

• Nokia XR21
• Nokia X30
• Nokia G60
• Nokia G42

This is not the final list by any means. It has been prepared based on the software update policy for Nokia smartphones. We’ll update it once we have official information on the same.

Nokia’s owner, HMD Global, typically offers two major OS updates and two or three years of security updates for Nokia smartphones. Sadly, this doesn’t apply to budget and entry-level phones. They hardly receive any Android OS updates.

Android 15: When Will It Start Rolling out to Nokia Phones?

Android 15 is currently in the development phase, with multiple developer previews and beta builds out for the testers. As per the official timeline by Google, the beta phase should last until June 2024, and then it will undergo a platform stability phase for bug fixing and final touches.

Although we don’t have an official release date for Android 15 as yet, everyone is expecting it to drop around the same time as last year, sometime in October. It’s likely to be announced alongside the Pixel 9 series, which will be the first phone to run the latest Android OS out of the box.

So, can you expect HMD Global to start rolling out the new OS in October? Well, it doesn’t seem to be happening if we consider the company’s past OS rollouts.

Android 14 was released in October last year, and many smartphone brands started rolling it out to their phones in the same month. However, HMD Global was too late to join the party in January this year. Since then, the brand hasn’t made significant changes to its software rollout plan, so expect a lazy roll out again.

Biggest Changes Coming to Android 15

Android 15 will bring plenty of exciting features, and I can confidently say it will be a much better upgrade than Android 13 and Android 14. Here are the major features in Android 15 discovered so far:

Circle to Search

Google might integrate the “Circle to Search” feature natively into Android 15. This feature lets you search for anything on your screen by drawing a circle around it.

Circle to Search was first available to the Galaxy S24 series models, and Google later adopted it for the Pixel 8 series. Now, it seems all Android 15 devices might support this exciting feature.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Android 15 adds support for satellite connectivity. This means you’ll be able to send texts to your friends even if you don’t have cell towers nearby, as long as you have access to the open sky. The new OS supports satellite connectivity for SMS apps and preinstalled RCS apps. In other words, this feature on Android 15 will not be limited to emergency uses only.

On-Device AI Capabilities

During the Google I/O 2024 event, the tech giant confirmed that Android 15 will bring on-device AI capabilities without revealing the actual usage. So, we’ll have to wait and see how it plays out. 

Find My Phone Network

With the new Find My Phone network, all Android 15 phones can ping each other via Bluetooth and contribute to the network to help someone find their lost device. The nearby Android device part of Find My network can pick up Bluetooth signals from the broadcasting device and upload the encrypted location details to Google’s servers, which can be decrypted by the broadcasting device owner.

Google is also expected to introduce an offline device finding feature that will allow users to locate their device even if it is offline. As of now, It’s only a rumor, but even if it arrives, only selected models will get it because of hardware limitations.

Gemini Assistant

Android 15 says goodbye to Google Assist, as all devices running the new OS will have Gemini as their default assistant. 

App Archiving

The app archiving feature lets you uninstall apps while keeping the user data around. So, the next time you reinstall the app, you can continue where you left off.

Google already offers the app archiving feature through the Play Store, which means you can archive and restore apps only through the Play Store. However, Android 15 removes this restriction by allowing any apps, including those installed outside the Play Store, to be archived.

Notification Cooldown

Another helpful addition to Android 15 is the “Notification Cooldown” feature. It is designed to stop people from getting overwhelmed by too many notifications from the same app. This new feature lowers the volume of successive notifications from the same app.

Partial Screen Sharing

Android 15 will allow users to share and record a single app rather than the entire screen. This feature is already available on Pixel devices and now extends to all Android 15 devices. 

High-Quality Webcam

Android 15 introduces a new high-quality webcam mode that significantly improves video quality. You must tap the “HQ” symbol in the webcam preview to enable it. It disables power optimizations on the device to offer better video quality, resulting in increased battery drain.

HMD, the parent company of Nokia has recently launched three new self-branded repairability-focused entry-level smartphones – the Pulse, Pulse+, and Pulse Pro. The Pulse series is powered by the UNISOC T606 processor. But soon after the release of the entry-level phones, a new GeekBench listing reveals that the company is working on a more powerful device as well.

HMD Global Tomcat could be powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 2

HMD’s new phone codenamed ‘Tomcat’ has appeared in the Geekbench benchmark library scoring 965 in single-core and 2625 in multi-core. The listing reveals that it is an octa-core processor with a 4+4 core cluster. The base frequency for the two clusters is 1.96GHz and 2.4GHz.

While the name of the chipset is not mentioned in the listing, the above-mentioned parameters match with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. The single and multi-core score is also similar to the alleged chipset. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 equips 4x Cortex-A78 and 4 x Cortex-A55 cores. For graphics, it equips the Adreno 710 GPU. This 4nm chipset from Qualcomm supports a 200MP camera sensor, 4K video recording at 30fps, 1080p video recording at 120fps, and Multi-frame HDR. However, the implementation is up to the manufacturer.

While the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is not particularly a high-end chipset, it is still significantly powerful as compared to chips like the UNISOC T606 or the Snapdragon 680. This Snapdragon 7s Gen2-powered smartphone could be positioned as a mid-to-high-end device as the Nokia 8.3 from 2020, powered by the Snapdragon 765G 5G chipset.

Gen 1 repairability means that users can get extra parts from sites like iFixit and fix their own devices, such as by replacing the screen or battery.

While this is an excellent feature, when these phones went on sale, the first customers noticed a small issue. Much to their surprise, the bottom bezel on the real model turned out to be way thicker than the promo images.

HMD Global, the company that holds the license over Nokia smartphones has recently launched its first series of smartphones using its own name. These devices are called the HMD Pulse, HMD Pulse+, and HMD Pulse Pro. All three are budget-friendly devices that come with “Gen 1 repairability” allowing users to swap components like batteries and screens.

That being said, early customers noted a discrepancy between promotional images showcasing uniform bezels on the Pulse and Pulse+ phones while the actual devices come with a thicker chin bezel.

HMD has since apologized and updated its website with accurate renderings. Lars Silberbauer, the Chief Marketing Officer at HMD Global, has released a statement addressing the issue. Lars expressed regret, stating that the company did not intend to misrepresent the device, and assured that the website now accurately displays the smartphones. You can check the differences between the early promotional image and the updated images below.

All three new HMD phones feature the Unisoc T606 processor, 6.65-inch display, and 5000 mAh battery. They differ mainly in camera specifications. The HMD Pulse is priced at €139 ($150) with a 13 MP main camera and an 8 MP selfie camera. The HMD Pulse+ costs €160 ($171) with a 50 MP main camera. The HMD Pulse Pro, priced at €180 ($193), features a 50 MP main camera and 50 MP selfie camera, along with a 2 MP depth sensor. The Pulse Pro also supports faster 20W charging compared to 10W for the others.

HMD recently announced the Boring phone in collaboration with Heineken and Bodega. Now, a new smartphone is also in the works, with a fresh listing confirming a bunch of information like its specs, pricing, and launch date. So here is everything you need to know.

HMD Pulse Pro listing surfaces online

The company is gearing up to launch a new HMD Pulse series that will consist of the Pulse and Pulse Pro models. Thsee devices are set to launch in India as well. But now, we have finer details regarding the Pulse Pro thanks to a Finnish retailer called Gigantti. Looking at the listing, the HMD Pulse Pro will sport a 6.56-inch IPS LCD panel that offers HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, it is equipped with the UNISOC T606 SoC that is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. This can be further expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD card slot. A large 5,000mAh battery pack will power this device via a USB Type-C port. The rear packs a 50-megapixel main and 2-megapixel depth sensor, while the front houses a 50-megapixel selfie shooter.

Other notable features include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, side mounted fingerprint scanner, and IP52 rating. The HMD Pulse Pro was listed with a 179 EUR price tag, which is roughly around 190 US Dollars or 15,900 INR. It can be seen in a long Black color option. In other words, it has a mid range price tag. The retailer listed the device with a release date of 24th April 2024.

It is pushing this forward with its new dumb phone that is dubbed the Heineken x Bodega Boring Phone. This limited edition phone comes without any of the modern features and instructions. Talking about its most highlighting aspect, it features a unique transparent housing and color scheme, mixing bright orange and green hues. The device features a flip design with holographic stickers at the back. The design mixes the early 2000s technology with a design inspired by Gen Z aesthetics. HMD Global, the company that owns the license to produce Nokia-branded phones has recently refreshed three of its classic feature phones for 2024: the Nokia 6310, 5310, and 230. These new phones carry the classic Nokia designs, however, they also have some modern features like USB-C charging ports, making charging quite convenient. That being said, they still only offer 2G connectivity.

The new Nokia 6310 inherits its predecessor’s rugged design but now features a 1,450 mAh battery and a USB-C port for up-to-date charging needs. It retains the original’s basic features such as a VGA camera, 2.8” LCD screen, and dual-SIM capabilities, offering a straightforward user experience.

Similarly, the Nokia 230 remains faithful to its original form but is updated with a new battery and USB-C port. It offers a 2.8” TFT display and a 2 MP camera with an LED flash, ensuring the phone’s simple and reliable use.

The 5310 model comes with a focus on music and has a larger size to accommodate a bigger battery (1,450 mAh) and a 2.8” LCD screen. The phone is powered by a Mediatek to a Unisoc 6531F chipset and features a dedicated play button on the right side and large volume control buttons on the left. It has a dual speakers system for audio and in-built FM radio functionality.

HMD Global has not revealed the pricing of these feature phones yet.

HMD Global has just hinted at the arrival of a new feature phone from Nokia. The company shared a new teaser that may suggest that a refreshed model of the Nokia 3310 could be in the works. So here is everything you need to know.

HMD working on the 2024 edition of the Nokia 3310?

The brand shared a new teaser on its account on X (formerly Twitter). In the official tweet, the company even shared an image that showcases an 8-bit version of what appears to be a Nokia feature phone. This device is placed next to a balloon, with a link directing us to the birthday page of an upcoming phone. In other words, the new feature phone is likely a brand new edition of a classic Nokia handset.

But while official details and the name of the phone weren’t revealed, the official HMD website has a pixelated image of the upcoming device. This device is expected to be the Nokia 3310, which was a pretty iconic Feature Phone. The device was available in bright color options, with one of them being a bright yellow variant that is also seen in this teaser as well.

A couple of years back, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro was even pitted in a drop battle against the Nokia 3310. As of right now, there is no official word on a Nokia 3310 refresh but stick around for more as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

At the end of last month, HMD confirmed that it will be soon releasing self-branded products. At least 9 smartphones are expected from the company shortly.

One of these was recently leaked revealing its design and main camera. Now, two more have been spotted on Geekbench. 

Two upcoming HMD-branded smartphones codenamed Legend and LegendPro have appeared in the Geekbench database. Their listings disclose a common chipset and different RAM capacities.

These handsets will be powered by an entry-level Unisoc T606 chip. The Legend will house a 4GB RAM module, while the LegendPro will arrive with 8GB RAM.

As for software, both of them will boot Android 14. They will likely offer a near-stock Android experience as Nokia-branded phones.

Unfortunately, that’s all the information we have on these forthcoming products. We expect to learn more about them in the next few days.

Apart from these handsets, HMD is expected to release a smartphone featuring a 108MP camera with OIS. Prolific tipster Evan Blass also shared the codenames of 6 HMD phones recently.

Two of these products are the aforementioned Legend and LegendPro. The others are Pulse, Pulse+, PulsePro, and Legend.

HMD (Human Mobile Devices) has scheduled its MWC 2024 event for February 25. Some of these or perhaps all of these handsets could be announced at the conference.

Also, it is worth noting that HMD has confirmed that it will continue to release Nokia-branded smartphones. In fact, more than 17 models are expected in 2024.

Nine new HMD smartphones have been spotted on the IMEI database. Initially, two HMD-branded phones had surfaced. Now 9 more models have been revealed, indicating that the brand is working on 11 products in total. Although the exact specifications of the smartphones are not known, their appearance on the IMEI database confirms the existence of the products.

9 HMD smartphones coming soon

Recently, the NokiaMobile account was renamed HMD, signaling an end for Nokia. A few days after this change, there was an important development. The folks at GSMChina spotted 9 new HMD phones. The IMEI database does not provide information on specifications, but it reveals the existence of 9 HMD-branded products.

HMD branded products model numbers are indicated above. These products are tested internally by HMD Global Oy. HMD can regain Nokia’s former popularity with new smartphones. But first, they need to launch models that suit the needs of every user.

HMD stands for Human Mobile Devices. The brand’s goal is to create useful mobile devices for humanity. Let’s hope that HMD will achieve significant success with the new HMD phones and that Nokia’s old title can be reclaimed with HMD. We’ll take some time to see, but it’s important to remember that HMD still has a good chance.

Although not much is known about HMD’s new phones, it was revealed earlier that an HMD-branded phone will have a 108MP triple camera with OIS. Also, codenames were leaked by Evan Blass. We will probably learn the details of the devices at MWC.

Now, the renaming of Nokia Mobile accounts to HMD is a sign of an important change. Nokia is no more, and the new name is HMD. This not only confirms the availability of new products from HMD in the future but also gives some insight into what the brand is capable of.

Over the last couple of weeks, it was revealed that HMD Global is gearing up to launch new smartphones under its own branding. The company has released Nokia branded devices, and is now planning on expanding its very own Android phone portfolio. Now, the latest sighting has revealed a key camera spec of the upcoming device.

HMD Smartphone Spotted with 108MP Primary Camera

To recall, two HMD Global smartphones surfaced on the IMEI database back in November 2023. These devices were expected to launch sometime in April 2024. Earlier this month, a render leak also offered us a first look at the upcoming HMD phone. But while these were leaks or certification sightings, the fresh report from Suomimobiili (a Finnish publication) shared the product render that were spotted on the brand’s official website.

Unfortunately, following the link shared by the original report shows a 404 Error, which likely means that the image was taken down soon after it went live. But the image was still shared and offered us a look at the rear camera module. The design appears to be in line with our previous report. A notable aspect spotted in the image is the 108MP OIS etching that confirms the primary sensor’s resolution and Optical Image Stabilization support.

The HMD smartphone can be seen in a Cyan color option. Finer details regarding this device like its specs and pricing are still unclear. Although, we do know that the device has a dual camera setup on the back. Just last week, known tipster Evan Blass also shared a series of codenames for HMD-branded devices that are set to launch soon. These include, Pulse, Legend, Pulse+, Legend Plus, Pulse Pro, and Legend Pro. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more updates.

HMD Global has been the owner of Nokia brand for its smartphones since 2016 and their contract expires in 2025. Recently it was reported that the company is undergoing significant changes. Previously, it was also learned that HMD Global would launch their own-branded devices. Now, the first phone from the company has surfaced in leaked renders giving us a good look at the design and what to expect. 

HMD Global branded phone surfaces in leaked render

As per the leaked render, the HMD Global seems to be a budget smartphone. It has a basic design language with a rectangular camera module on the back panel. It houses two sensors and an LED flash unit. The rear panel also has HMD branding in the center. The device appears to have a slightly flat frame with the right edge having power and volume rocker buttons and the SIM tray located on the left side. 

On the front, the HMD Global-branded phone has a center-aligned punch-hole cutout display. It is seen in a Black color option with matte finish in the leaked render. The report does not reveal any additional details about the smartphone.

Two HMD Global phones were spotted on IMEI database with model numbers N159V and TA-1585 last November. One of them could be the device that has emerged in the leaked render. However, their key specifications remain a mystery as of now. As rumoured previously, HMD is tipped to launch its own branded phones in India as soon as April. We can expect more details to surface in the coming months.

This strategy includes removing the “Phone” section from Nokia’s official website, now only accessible through a specific link.

Nokiamob reports that starting February 1st, Nokia‘s website will no longer feature the “Phone” section, and HMD Global will provide all related content. This change is part of HMD’s strategy to redefine its brand identity, as evidenced by the launch of hmd.com. This site is expected to host a range of products including original HMD devices, classic Nokia phones, and items from new partnerships.

In addition to these website changes, HMD has also rebranded its social media presence. Their Twitter handle has changed from @nokiamobile to @HMDglobal. This shift raises questions about the future focus on Nokia phones and the Nokia community’s engagement.

The new HMD website is anticipated to become the primary platform for both classic Nokia phones and new HMD products. This suggests a potential end to Nokia-branded smartphones, with only feature phones continuing under the Nokia name. The last Nokia smartphone was the Nokia G42, and it appears HMD may limit future Nokia-branded smartphones to a few models per year, covering different market segments.

HMD Global is gearing up to launch new smartphones in India early next year. However, it appears that these new models won’t fall under the Nokia branding, but will rather feature HMD Global’s name. So here are all the details.

HMD Global-Branded Phones to Launch in India in 2024

For those unaware, HMD Global is the license holder for Nokia-branded smartphones in the global market. This means that it is behind all the recent Nokia smartphone launches. However, the brand has seen a rather unsteady footing in the market due to inconsistent releases in an oversaturated market. But now, a new report from 91Mobiles hints that the company is working on new models, but these will feature the HMD Global branding.

According to industry sources close to the matter, the brand is planning on launching new smartphones in India by April 2024. These models will reportedly arrive with competitive pricing and availability will be focused on online channels like Amazon, Flipkart, and others. The report adds that HMD Global will focus on selling Nokia phones through offline channels. The company will also sell both HMD Global and Nokia branded devices till 2026.

The sources added that the brand will launch these devices in both the budget and mid range category, but there are plans for flagship models as well. These models will offer more OS updates compared to market rivals and will reportedly run on stock Android OS. Interestingly, this report is also in line with one of our recent reports.
