Geely Galaxy A7 Hybrid Sedan Launched with 2.67 L/100km Mileage, 2,100 km Range & 21 Aerodynamic Upgrades

Geely Auto has launched the Galaxy A7 hybrid sedan, its latest model built on the new Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA). It features the EM Super Hybrid 2.0 system and was unveiled at the Geely Science and Art Museum in Chongqing.

The Galaxy A7 delivers fuel efficiency of 2.67 liters per 100 kilometers and offers a driving range of over 2,100 kilometers. The hybrid engine has a thermal efficiency of 47.26%. It also includes the Xingrui AI Cloud Power 2.0 system and is the only model in its class with backup power from P1 and P3 motors, which keeps the car running even if the engine fails.

The A7 is the largest in its class. It has a wheelbase of 2,845 mm and a body length of 4,918 mm. The total cabin space is 4.2 square meters. Rear passengers get 950 mm of legroom and 132 mm of knee space. The seats have 10 layers and include a 14-point massage system for the waist, back, hips, and legs. There are 28 storage compartments and a 535-liter trunk.

The car keeps a classic sedan look with modern upgrades. It has 21 design elements to reduce drag, giving it a low drag coefficient of 0.229. The front has an integrated headlight bar with a 180-meter range. The rear has a “Sunrise” LED light bar. Inside, it has a layered design using leather, wood, and matte metal. Other features include 2,360 mm ambient lighting, music-enabled headrests, and large rear window panels for better light.

The A7 is the first to use the Flyme Auto system. It runs on a 23.5 EFLOPS AI platform and supports voice control, lane navigation, traffic light info, and full mobile connectivity.

The Short Blade Battery passed more than 100 extreme tests, including fire, water, and drop tests. The car body is reinforced with a high-strength frame and MacPherson suspension.

The Geely Galaxy A7 is set to launch in China in Q3 this year, with an estimated price range of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (approximately 13,910 to 20,870 USD).

Ford is making waves with the introduction of its first-ever plug-in hybrid Ranger—except, it’s only for Europe. The 2025 Ranger PHEV is slated for production later this year, promising a mash-up of traditional fuel efficiency and electric power. The announcement has left some Americans scratching their heads, wondering when or if the eco-friendly version will make its way across the Atlantic.

The 3.0 liter V6 diesel version generates 443 pound-feet of torque

The Ranger PHEV isn’t just any truck; it’s based on Europe’s top-selling truck model. Equipped with a 2.3-liter plug-in hybrid system, Ford claims the truck will boast greater torque than any other Ranger produced so far. For context, the existing 3.0-liter V6 diesel version pushes out 443 pound-feet of torque, indicating that the PHEV could be a real powerhouse.

For those concerned about mileage, Ford aims for a fully electric range of up to 28 miles on one battery charge. That’s not the only trick up its sleeve—the new Ranger will also have a braked towing capacity of 7,716 pounds, and it features Pro Power Onboard, a system that allows you to plug tools and appliances directly into the truck’s cargo bed.

China’s Plug-In Electric Car Market Sees a New High, BYD Shines at the Top

As the trend of growth in electric vehicles keeps booming, China’s plug-in electric car market also experienced remarkable growth, especially in the month of May. This is solidifying its position as a global leader in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. According to data from EV Volumes, an impressive 614,361 new passenger plug-in electric cars were registered in China during May, marking a staggering 54 per cent increase from the previous year.

What’s even more astounding is that plug-in electric cars now represent over a third of the total car market in the country. Rechargeable cars accounted for approximately 35 per cent of all new passenger car sales in May, surpassing the figures seen in Europe and the United States. China’s dominance in the global plug-in car market is undeniable. The nation contributed to a remarkable 60 per cent of the total global plug-in car registrations for the month of May alone.

The data also reveals that Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are the preferred choice among Chinese consumers, outselling Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) by more than 2:1. In May, BEV sales exceeded 400,000, capturing a significant 24 percent share of the total market.

The year-to-date results further reinforce China’s EV prowess, with over 2.5 million new plug-in electric cars registered in the country so far. This accounts for approximately 35 percent of the total volume and represents an impressive 41 percent increase compared to the previous year. BYD, a Chinese automaker, emerged as the clear winner in the electric vehicle market. The BYD Qin Plus family of BEV and PHEV versions dominated the top-selling models list for May, followed closely by the BYD Song Plug plug-in family. Tesla’s Model Y ranked as the most popular all-electric car in the country.

BYD’s exceptional performance extended to the brand level, as it emerged as the most popular brand and automotive group in China’s EV market. With a share of 36.0 percent, BYD surpassed its competitors, including Tesla, GAC Aion, SAIC-GM-Wuling, and Li Auto.

BMW Expands its Electric Car Lineup with New Models and Advanced Operating System

BMW is set to make waves in the summer of 2023 with the introduction of several new electric models, further cementing its commitment to sustainable mobility. The i4 xDrive40, an all-wheel drive variant, joins the successful i4 lineup. With an 80.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, the i4 xDrive40 offers an estimated range of 307 miles (282 miles with optional 19-inch wheels) according to preliminary tests. Starting at $61,600, this model is set to hit the US market in the third quarter of 2023.

The 7 Series will also see electrified enhancements with two new models. The 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid combines a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a maximum output of 483 horsepower and an estimated electric range of over 35 miles. Priced at $107,000, this impressive sedan will be available in the fall of 2023.

In addition, the single-motor, rear-wheel drive i7 eDrive50 will join the 7 Series family, providing 449 horsepower. More details regarding the i7 eDrive50’s performance and range will be released closer to its market launch. The 740i will also get an upgrade with the introduction of xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, enhancing its acceleration and providing confident handling in various weather conditions.

Alongside these new models, BMW will introduce the BMW Operating System 8.5, which represents a significant evolution of the iDrive operating system. The Jeep brand has unveiled a new collection of innovative concept vehicles that are designed for impressive terrain-traversing capabilities. The Jeep Magneto features a custom-built axial flux electric motor that operates up to 6,000 rpm and connects to a six-speed manual transmission for ultimate control. This year, updates include a more efficient motor that boosts torque output and updated programming, which results in a 20% increase in usable energy and range. The vehicle also features three driver-selectable functions that capitalize on the benefits of a fully electric powertrain in serious off-road situations, including output select, which allows the driver to choose between two power settings.

Lamborghini unveils hybrid supercar Revuelto with an electric range of 6 miles

With the automobile industry moving to include more eco friendly offerings, top luxury car brands have also began building electric and hybrid models. The latest one to offer such a model is Lamborghini, which has just announced its new hybrid supercar, the Revuelto.

The Revuelto directly translates to “scrambled” and features a hybrid design. Meaning, it can run on electric energy as well as conventional fuel. Lamborghini’s latest supercar can run in an all electric mode, but it won’t get you very far. As per official notes, the Revuelto offers a maximum electric only range of just 6.2 miles on a single full charge. In other words, it is clear that the hybrid vehicle is not meant to be driven as a pure electric only vehicle.

But there’s a twist, as the combustion engine can charge the small 3.8kWh battery on its own in just six minutes thanks to the regenerative braking system on the front wheels. The humble electric range isn’t a deal breaker since customers of such supercars don’t opt for these luxury sports cars for their range. The engines on these sports cars are designed to push the limits of speed and acceleration, and the one on the Lamborghini Revuelto can offer an impressive 814 horsepower at a 9,250 rpm.

It also houses a multitude of air intake ducts that are located throughout for improved airflow to the engine. This enables a power level of 126 horsepower per liter. According to the official press release, the Revuelto offers the “highest output in the history of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder engines.” Talking about its design, we can see that the company took inspiration from the aerospace industry with its engineering, with hexagonal exhausts and angular lines across the body. The vertically opening scissor doors also made a return on this car.

On its 23 December Winter Flagship Launch Event, besides officially announcing its premium foldable, the Huawei P50 Pocket, Huawei also took the opportunity to launch its first-ever HarmonyOS powered electric hybrid car, the Huawei AITO M5.

According to a Chinese business media outlet, the 21st Century Business Herald, Huawei held a press media conference on January 9 at 2 pm CST at its Shenzhen Headquarters to discuss matters related to its growing smart electric car business. The conference was headed by Richard Yu, the executive director and double CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group and the intelligent automotive unit.

“At Huawei, we want our car manufacturing partners to become the industry’s most profitable car manufacturing company. We are saying this here and today to let the future know whether history has been accomplished by Huawei, a smartphone manufacturer.” Yu exclaimed.

Huawei collaborated with the famous car manufacturer, Seres, to launch its premium hybrid electric smart car series, AITO, with the first model being the AITO M5. The production and assembly of the car are handled by Seres, whereas Huawei’s role in the collaboration is in the car’s exterior design, interior comfort as well as in the marketing of the product. Richard Yu emphasized again that Huawei is not a car manufacturer, but the company wants to lend its expertise in marketing and trendsetting design to a rapidly growing car manufacturer like Seres.

Richard Yu mentioned that by diversifying Huawei’s product catalog to include cars, its retail business could survive in China, as the profit margins per unit for cars are generally higher than its premium smartphones.

Second, the economic landscape has changed after the pandemic. Customers nowadays use online retailers as their all-in-one center for all their purchasing needs, and if an unknown car manufacturer just came into the scene without building its audience, it will be a challenging task to be accomplished. With Huawei’s retail and sales network across the country, car manufacturers can save on the expensive concept store rentals, human resources as well as product marketing for their cars because Huawei is an established brand in China, and can be the one in charge of these after-sales services.

Third, collaborating with car manufacturers also helps to accelerate the adoption of a fully Huawei smart IoT ecosystem, ensuring convenience for Huawei users in China. Richard Yu mentions the HarmonyOS powered AITO M5 as an example. With HarmonyOS, one can forget the worries of losing their car keys, and unlock their keys anytime with just a tap on their phone; one can connect and sync their phone’s navigation with the car’s navigation system; one can even activate seamless hands-free mode on the car with video calls and voice calls because both are synced to same Huawei account. Richard Yu emphasized again that this is the advantage of HarmonyOS.

“With the appeal of the Huawei AITO M5 smart cars and paired with its countywide sales network, Huawei will be able to sell 300,000 smart cars in 2022.” Richard Yu boldly claims.

“With at least 1000 stores across the country, if each store sells 30 units of smart cars monthly, we can sell at least 30 thousand cars in a month. In about 10 months, Huawei will be able to reach its annual target if the pace keeps up. The car manufacturer would also receive revenues of over 100 billion RMB (~ 15.72 billion USD), and Huawei would have achieved its promise of building the most profitable car manufacturer in the Chinese market.”

Huawei Releases the World’s First Bluetooth and NFC Supported Digital Car Keys in China for its AITO M5 Smart Car

At the Huawei Winter Flagship Launch Event last week(Dec 23 2021), Huawei did not only release the Huawei P50 Pocket, the premium flagship flip-phone rival the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, but the Chinese tech giant has also launched the brand’s second electric hybrid SUV vehicle in China, called the Huawei AITO M5 Smart Car.

The Huawei AITO M5 is AITO’s first luxury smart electric plug-in hybrid SUV, a bold move by them in its venture into the Chinese electric vehicle market. Inspired by the Porsche Macan, its design is very sleek and modern, with a spacious interior to boot. The SUV was jointly developed by Huawei and along with another Chinese brand Seres, which is under the Chongqing Sokon conglomerate company.

However, the unique and highlighting feature of the Huawei AITO M5 smart car, is that it comes with Huawei’s own in-house operating system, HarmonyOS. If you are not aware of HarmonyOS, HarmonyOS main function is to provide seamless integration for Huawei IoT products which includes its smartphones, laptops, smartwatches and starting as of recent, for its smart cars as well!

In a press announcement recently, Mr Yu Chengdong, Senior Vice President of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Smart Car Division, mentioned that Huawei has developed the industry’s first Bluetooth and NFC supported digital car keys for its newly announced AITO M5 smart car.

Mr Yu explains that on HarmonyOS 2.0 supported smartphones, the digital smart car keys are located within the Huawei Wallet app. With the digital keys, you can do pretty much everything a pair of physical car keys do, without having to worry about misplacing the keys or finding the keys during an emergency. To illustrate the technology, the digital car keys use Bluetooth to unlock and lock the car from a distance away, and if Bluetooth does not work or the phone battery runs out, the car keys also support NFC(even without phone battery) for unlocking the car so you’ll still have access to the car even when Bluetooth is not working.

The NFC and Bluetooth encryption of the digital keys are also present in the smart car, and it is compliant with the China ICCE standard as well as the road safety and privacy of the car drivers and passengers. As of today, the digital car keys are only available on HarmonyOS 2.0 Huawei smartphones, however, Huawei is planning to add this functionality to its Huawei Watch 3 series too as it would be more convenient for drivers to unlock their cars with a twist of a wrist compared to taking your smartphone out and clicking a button.
