For those unaware, the Edge 20 was set to launch on 24th August 2021 while the Edge 20 Fusion was set to go on sale on August 27. However, the company has now delayed the launch for the former with pre orders now beginning from August 24 rather than its first sale. Furthermore, it is currently unknown when the American smartphone maker will officially start selling the new Edge 20 in the region.

Apparently, the Edge 20’s sale has been indefinitely delayed, although, the Edge 20 Fusion will still launch on August 27. This handset will be available in the country through Flipkart and other major retail stores. The company stated that “We are glad to see the overwhelming response that we have received from media and consumers for both our recently launched Edge 20 series products. However, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to defer the sale date for Edge 20, which we will announce shortly.”

Notably, we had recently done a comparison between the Motorola Edge 20 and the OnePlus Nord 2 regarding which smartphone you should buy. While the latter had launched back in July, the Edge 20 was expected to launch a month after and compete with the Nord 2 since the Edge 20 arrives with a price tag similar to the Nord 2, which is 29,999 INR (roughly 404 US Dollars). Although the Edge 20 brings various features that makes it quite competitive at this price point, the device has yet to launch in the region.

Motorola Edge 20 series Indian launch

Motorola’s Edge 20 series made its stop in India last week. The Lenovo-owned company announced the Motorola Edge 20 and the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion. The former is one of the lightest and thinnest phones in its class. Both phones have a 108MP primary camera and a high refresh rate display. Motorola India has also confirmed that the Edge 20 Pro will launch later.

Samsung’s Galaxy A-series added two new members last week. While the Galaxy A03s will appeal to those on a constricted budget, the Galaxy A52s 5G is for those with more money to spare but not enough for a flagship. The A52s 5G doesn’t offer much over the Galaxy A52 5G announced back in March but you do get a more powerful processor and new colors to choose from.

iQOO 8 series – a head-turning balance of power and style

The launch of the iQOO 8 series was one of the major highlights of last week. The new smartphones from Vivo’s iQOO come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888+ processor, fast wired and wireless charging, Samsung’s brand new E5 display, and a custom version of OriginOS developed for the sub-brand.

These new phones are not just beasts under the hood, but also feature impressive designs. Alongside custom editions that wear the BMW Motorsport colors, the standard model also has a photochromic version that can switch from silver to bright orange!

Pixel 5A 5G – same but better in some ways

Google announced a new Pixel phone, but while it is not the one we are all looking forward to which is the Pixel 6, the new Pixel 5a 5G has been getting a lot of attention since it launched. The mid-range phone takes over from the Pixel 4a 5G as the flagbearer of the Pixel a line. While some key specs have been carried over from last year’s mode, the Pixel 5a 5G brings a significantly bigger battery, an IP67 rating, and a price tag that is $50 cheaper than that of the Pixel 4a 5G. The Pixel 5a 5G will be exclusive to Japan and the U.S.A. but Google did launch a Pixel for the Indian market in form of the Pixel Buds A.

Design

Both phones are rocking flat displays with hole punches, albeit in different positions, and triple rear cameras stacked vertically. Both are also available in multiple colors. However, there are some pretty significant differences in the way these two phones have been made.

The Motorola Edge 20 is one of the lightest and thinnest phones in its class, weighing just 163 grams and measuring 6.9 millimeters in thickness. It also has an aluminum alloy frame, but settles for a plastic back panel. The OnePlus Nord 2 settles for a plastic frame but gets a Gorilla Glass 5 back and is heavier and thicker too, but for justifiable reasons.

Display

This is another area where both devices differ significantly. OnePlus has equipped the Nord 2 with a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that has a 90Hz refresh rate. There is also Gorilla Glass 5 for protection.

No matter how much OnePlus likes to brag about its smooth display, it definitely can’t match the 144Hz refresh rate on the Motorola Edge 20’s 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED screen. This is also a 10-bit panel and with HDR10+ (no HDR on the OnePlus Nord 2). There is protection for the screen, but it’s Gorilla Glass 3.

Processor

Both the Snapdragon 778G and Dimensity 1200-AI are 6nm chipsets, but one of them is the king here and it is not the Qualcomm chip.

OnePlus has not only chosen MediaTek’s most powerful mobile chipset for the Nord 2, but it has also tweaked its AI features, putting it miles ahead of the Snapdragon 778G in terms of AI performance.

However, that isn’t to say that the Snapdragon 778G is not a good processor. It is actually very good and offers impressive performance. If you want to know how well it measures up to the Dimensity 1200, MySmartPrice has done a good comparison.

Cameras

This is one of the features that can either be a dealmaker or dealbreaker for buyers.

Motorola goes all out with a 108MP f/1.9 primary rear camera with 9-in-1 pixel binning technology. There is no optical image stabilization, which is a feature the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor on the Nord 2 boasts of. While a camera shootout will determine which phone has the better main camera, the Nord 2 has the odds in its favor.

For the other cameras, Motorola clearly wins. It has an ultrawide angle camera with a higher resolution and can also take macro photos. Further, its third camera, an 8MP telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom and 30x superzoom which is vastly superior to the 2MP sensor on the Nord 2.

Both phones have a 32MP front-facing camera and similar app features such as dual capture, night mode, and portrait mode.

Battery and Fast charging

The OnePlus Nord 2 not only has a bigger battery at 4500mAh but also charges significantly faster at 65W, leaving the Motorola Edge 20’s 30W TurboPower in the dust. Thankfully, both phones ship with a charger in the box.

Connectivity

The OnePlus Nord 2 has NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, dual SIM support, and even more 5G bands than the OnePlus 9. The Motorola Edge 20 also has NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual SIM support but adds the improved Wi-Fi 6E and packs a total of 11 5G bands!

Software

Both phones run Android 11 out of the box but are significantly different. Motorola’s My UX is close to stock Android with the addition of useful features such as Attentive Display and Moto Actions. OnePlus on the other hand ships the Nord 2 with OxygenOS 11.3 which uses the integrated ColorOS codebase. There are lots of customizations available and features such as AOD, One-handed mode, Super Resolution, and an optimized Game Mode.

However, what is more important is software support. Both companies have their issues with this, but OnePlus is promising two OS upgrades for the Nord 2 and three years of security updates while Motorola, which is worse at updates, says it will provide OS upgrades and security updates for two years.

Other features

Both phones have some unique features that are also worth mentioning. The Motorola Edge 20 has Ready For, a feature that allows you to connect it to an external display and use it as a desktop computer. You can also use the phone as a webcam with movement tracking for video calls while connected to your TV or for a console-like experience to enjoy your mobile games on your TV with a connected Bluetooth controller.

Motorola Ready For

Motorola also says the Edge 20 has an IP52 rating and there is a dedicated Google Assistant button too.

The Nord 2 has stereo speakers with custom Dirac drivers for an improved audio experience. OnePlus also brags about the new Haptics 2.0 which it claims is significantly improved. There is also an Alert Slider for easily switching between ring modes.

Conclusion

OnePlus and Motorola have made pretty impressive phones with outstanding features. However, there are significant differences that will determine the one you buy.

If you prefer a phone that is lightweight and slim, boasts the best-in-class display, packs all-around better cameras, offers a near-stock Android experience, and moonlights as a desktop computer, then the Motorola Edge 20 is the device for you. Let’s also not forget that with its 11 5G bands, there is no reason to worry about supported bands. However, Motorola’s poor attitude to software updates is something you should keep at the back of your mind.

For those who want performance, a great primary rear camera in its class, longer battery life, incredible fast charging, better speakers, and more reliable software support that will end in 2024, the OnePlus Nord 2 is the device for you.

Motorola has now confirmed the Edge 20 will be launched in India on August 17. The Edge 20 will be accompanied by the Edge 20 Fusion!

Recall that the Edge 20 was launched alongside the Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 Lite. However, there are indications that the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion is a rebadged Edge 20 Lite. The major difference is that the Edge 20 Fusion will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC whereas the Edge 20 Lite features a Dimensity 720 SoC.

In other aspects, the Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion will both feature a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The Edge 20 Fusion will support a 90Hz refresh rate while the Edge 20 will support up to a 144Hz refresh rate. The premium model will also arrive with an in-screen fingerprint scanner while the Fusion will utilize a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Motorola Edge 20 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. The Edge 20 Fusion will also come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

The two smartphones will run Android 11 without any bloatware and Motorola has promised to provide at least 2 major android OS upgrades and 2 years of bi-monthly security updates.

New Nokia phones

HMD Global announced a trio of new Nokia phones. Top of the line is the Nokia XR20, the first Nokia-branded 5G rugged smartphone. There is also the Nokia C30, an entry-level Android smartphone, and last but not the list is the rebirth of the classic Nokia 6310.
OPPO Watch 2

OPPO made its foray into the wearable market last year with the OPPO Watch and the OPPO Band fitness tracker. It has now followed up the former with a successor called the OPPO Watch 2 and it comes with a dual operating system and dual-chip design and a starting price that converts to about $200.

No OnePlus 9T?

Starting with the OnePlus 3T in 2016, OnePlus has made it a tradition to announce a T-variant of its flagship phone(s) for that year. It turns out that may not happen this year as a trusted leaker has revealed that OnePlus isn’t going to announce a OnePlus 9T.

MediaTek Kompanio 1300T

MediaTek announced a new chipset in its Kompanio series, its line of processors designed for Chromebooks. However, the new Kompanio 1300T won’t be appearing first in a Chromebook but the upcoming Honor V7 Pro tablet.

The new earbuds from Carl Pei’s new company bring a new design to the earbuds space. It also offers a lot for $99!

Nokia is making a tablet

Remember the Nokia N1 tablet released in 2015? It wasn’t much of a success but Nokia wants to give tablets another chance. Who can blame them considering the market has seen renewed interest. The new tablet will launch as the Nokia T20 and will have a 10.36-inch among other features including its price tag that leaked last week.

More than 10 million PS5s sold but I still don’t have one

Sony revealed that it has sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 units since the console went on sale in November last year, making it its fastest-selling console. That is pretty impressive considering supply issues have caused a scarcity.

Huawei P50 series – a latecomer with no 5G

Huawei’s P50 series finally launched last week but the two new phones don’t have 5G support. The Huawei P50 (powered by the Snapdragon 888), and the Huawei P50 Pro (available in Kirin 9000 and Snapdragon 888 variants) are proof that Huawei’s problems are far from over. They feature a new design and pack impressive cameras (that already top DxOMark’s list) along with other flagship-grade specs but their lack of 5G support may make them a tough sell. However, a 5G variant of the pro model is expected to launch later.

Huawei also announced a new smart speaker, a smart display for kids, the Watch GT2 Pro, Band 6 Pro, and new TVs including its largest yet.

Motorola Edge 20 series – flat OLED displays and 108MP cameras

The trio of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Edge 20, and Edge 20 Lite were announced last week in Europe. The phones share some similarities such as a 6.67-inch OLED FHD+ display (albeit with different refresh rates) as well as 108MP primary rear cameras and the same fast charging technology but that is pretty much where it ends. You get different processors across the board, different battery capacities, and more.

The phones belong to different price segments: the vanilla version is an upper-midrange device, the Pro is a flagship, and the Lite variant is a mid-ranger. But besides the hardware department, are there other difference which is worth knowing before considering the purchase of one of these three phones? This comparison between their specifications will clear your ideas in regards.

Design

The most beautiful design belongs to the Motorola Edge 20 Pro. It comes in color options made of different materials: there is a version with a glass back and a version with an eco leather back. With the Motorola Edge 20, you get an aluminum frame, but the rear side is made of plastic, while the Motorola Edge 20 Lite is entirely made of polycarbonate, so it is less attractive. All the phones have a water repellent coating but there are different kinds of protections for the glasses. The Pro variant has Gorilla Glass 5 for the display, the Edge has Gorilla Glass 3, and the Edge 20 Lite does not seem to have strong protection for the front glass, so a screen protector is recommended.

Display

Motorola Edge 20 and 20 Pro have the same high-end OLED display which is able to show up to one billion colors, supports a 144 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification improving the image quality. There is only one single difference between this panel and the one found on the Edge 20 Lite: the refresh rate. The Lite variant has a lower 90 Hz refresh rate. All the phones feature an in-display fingerprint reader for authentication.

Hardware/Software

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro is a flagship phone as it is powered by the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform: not the best by Qualcomm, but close to it. The SoC is paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage. The original Edge 20 has an upper-midrange Snapdragon 778G and two memory configurations available: 8/128 GB and 12/256 GB, while the Edge 20 Lite has a midrange-class Dimensity 720 5G paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. All of them run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

If you need a real camera phone, go either for the Motorola Edge 20 or the 20 Pro. They have the same main rear camera that is a 108 MP sensor, as well as a 16 MP front camera. Only one sensor is different: the one that provides the optical zoom feature. While the standard version has an 8 MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, the Pro version has an 8 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. Unfortunately, no optical zoom on the Lite variant which includes a 108 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP macro camera.

Battery

The Motorola Edge 20 Lite wins the battery comparison as it features a bigger 5000 mAh battery providing a longer battery life on a single charge. The Motorola Edge 20 is pretty disappointing with just 4000 mAh, but it is one of the thinnest phones in the market. The Pro variant sits in the middle with 4500 mAh.

Motorola Edge 20 vs Motorola Edge 20 Pro vs Motorola Edge 20 Lite: Price

Motorola Edge 20 is priced at €500/$593, the Edge 20 Pro sells for €700/$830, and the Edge 20 Lite will be available with a listing price of €350/$415. These are the prices for Europe, but they vary depending on the region.

In case the lesson didn’t stick, it has now announced three new Edge phones and none of them has a curved screen. However, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Edge 20, and Edge 20 Lite do have some pretty interesting specs including a 108MP camera on all three models.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro and Motorola Edge 20

The Edge 20 Pro is the leader of the pack and it gets all of the best features. It has a 6.67-inch 10-bit OLED display with DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR10+, Amazon HDR, and an impressive 144Hz refresh rate. It also has a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera. The Edge 20 has the same display size, type, and features, save for the lack of support for Amazon HDR.

Powering the Motorola Edge 20 Pro is the Snapdragon 870 processor, the same one that made its global debut in the Edge S a.k.a. Moto G100. There is 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It also has two features called Turbo Write and Host-Aware Performance Booster.

The Motorola Edge 20 comes with the less-powerful Snapdragon 778G processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It also misses out on the fast writing speed and performance booster of the pro model.

There is a primary 108MP rear camera on both phones. In addition, the Edge 20 Pro has an 8MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and 50x superzoom and a 16MP ultrawide angle camera that can shoot macro photographs. The Pro model can also shoot in 8K.

The Edge 20 also has an 8MP camera but with 3x optical zoom and 30x superzoom and a 16MP ultrawide angle camera that doubles as a macro camera. Both phones have a 32MP front-facing camera.

The Edge 20 Pro has a 4500mAh battery while the Edge 20 has a smaller 4000mAh battery but both phones support 30W TurboPower fast charging. The two phones run Android 11 with My UX on top. They also come with the Ready For PC feature that allows the phone to be connected to an external display to use in desktop mode, serve as a webcam, or as a gaming console.

Motorola Edge 20 Lite

The Motorola Edge 20 Lite also has a 6.67-inch 10-bit OLED display with DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+. Its refresh rate is lower at 90Hz and it also misses out on Amazon HDR support.

Powering the phone is MediaTek’s Dimensity 720 processor and it is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 108MP primary rear camera comes along with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera that can also take macro photos and a 2MP depth camera. Its front-facing camera is a 32MP sensor too.

Unlike its siblings which have an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Edge 20 Lite has a side-mounted scanner. However, it does have a water-repellent design, ThinkShield Security for mobile, support for Ready For albeit with fewer features, and Wi-Fi 6.

Motorola gives the Edge 20 Lite a bigger 5000mAh battery and adds support for 30W TurboPower fast charging. It runs My UX based on Android 11 out of the box.

According to Nils Ahrensmeier of Techniknews, Motorola has revealed that all three phones will receive OS upgrades and security updates for two years. So we should see them receive Android 12 and Android 13 updates.

With their launch still weeks away, a lot is already known about the devices. But this hasn’t prevented further leaks from popping up online. The latest leak by tipster OnLeaks has revealed some compelling renders of the Edge 20, showing some of its features.

The renders are similar to the image of the Edge 20 and Edge 20 Pro which appeared on China’s TENAA database earlier this month. Only that we get to see the front camera clearly and how the device looks in a different pain job. It is speculated that the renders are for the global edition of the Edge 20. They reveal a triple camera setup at the rear and a 32MP front camera embedded under a centrally located punch hole. The triple rear camera setup is signposted by a 108MP primary camera, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens. There is a LED flash behind the third lens.

The Lenovo-owned Motorola Edge 20 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset. The base model of the Edge 20 will come with 6GB-rated RAM and 128GB of storage. The 8GB RAM version could come with up to 256GB of internal storage.

The renders show a punch-hole that is about 1.7mm thick to add to the 8.9mm thickness of the device on the whole. The 6.7-inch screen is an FHD+ display with a 120Hz display refresh rate. Slim bezels adorn the device, and there is a fingerprint scanner on the right side of the device, which also is the power button for the device.

The Motorola Edge 20 does not have a 3.5mm audio jack. Hence you can only listen to music via a wireless connection. In addition, it sports a 4,000mAh battery, but we are not clear what juice the study packs on a full charge.

The exact launch date for the Motorola Edge 20 is still under wraps but there are speculations that it will be launched by the end of July. We expect to know the pricing and global availability details when the models are launched.

A fresh report by Tech Radar has revealed the Edge 20’s India launch timeframe and pricing.

According to the publication, the Edge 20 mid-range smartphone will be debuting in India by the end of this month or in August. The device is expected to be priced at around Rs 30,000 (~$402).

With that pricing, the Moto Edge 20 will be rivaling the likes of Realme X7 Max 5G, Xiaomi Mi 11X, and upcoming phones such as OnePlus Nord 2 and POCO F3 GT. The Edge 20 is expected to launch first in the global markets before arriving in India. The publication claims that the company might change the name of the Edge 20 variant heading to India.

Past reports have revealed that the Edge 20 lineup includes other phones such as the Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 Lite. Blass has now claimed that these smartphones will debut by “very end” of this month.

It is likely that the Berlin and Berlin NA phones may release with Edge 20 moniker. The NA model is reportedly aimed towards North American on Verizon, and the Berlin model is heading to the global markets. Both smartphones are powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset, but the global model appears to be a downgraded edition of the North American model as it has a smaller display and battery. However, the global model has better cameras than the NA variant.

The Pstar model is expected to debut as the Edge 20+ handset and it may release in multiple markets such as Asia, Europe, Australia, Latin America, China, and India. Earlier this year, Motorola announced the Edge S flagship featuring the Snapdragon 870 chip in China. Later, it was made available in global markets with the Moto G100 moniker. The purported Edge 20+ is also expected to feature the Snapdragon 870 SoC.

Blass has previously claimed that the Kyoto model may debut as the Motorola Edge 20 Lite. This phone is expected to release in global and Indian markets. The monikers of the Berlin/Berlin NA and Pstar models have not been revealed yet. The specs of the Edge 20 Lite suggest that it will be the most affordable phone in the lineup. While the new Edge 20 models are expected to launch by July end, there is no official confirmation yet from Motorola.

Earlier this week, reputed tipster Evan Blass revealed that the Kyoto phone will be arriving in the market with Motorola Edge 20 Lite moniker. Hence, it is speculated that the Berlin, Berlin, and Pstar could be Edge 20 series. A fresh leak by Blass has revealed all the important specs of the purported Edge 20 lineup.

Motorola Edge Berlin and Berlin NA

The new leak reveals that the Motorola Berlin NA will be heading to the North American markets, whereas Berlin will be releasing in global markets and India. The Berlin NA has a 6.78-inch centered punch-hole panel that offers 1080 x 2460 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Berlin model has a smaller 6.67-inch centered punch-hole screen that offers 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 778G powers both handsets with 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM. Both handsets will come in 128 GB / 256 GB storage editions.

Both smartphones possess a 32-megapixel front camera. The Berlin NA’s rear camera system has a 108-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle/macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Berlin has 108-megapixel + 16-megapixel wide-angle/macro camera + 8-megapixel telephoto lens (3x zoom) triple camera system. The Berlin NA has a 5,000mAh battery, whereas the global edition is backed by a 4,000mAh battery. Both phones are loaded with Android 11 OS and a mono speaker. The global edition will have a Google Assistant button and it will be available in Emerald, Stout, and White colors.

Motorola-Edge

Motorola Pstar

The Pstar (also known as Sierra codename) is heading to markets like Asia, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and India. It has a 6.67-inch centered punch-hole display that offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 870 chip powers with 6 GB / 8 GB / 12 GB of RAM. It is expected to arrive in 128 GB and 256 GB storage choices.

The model releasing in China will have a 16-megapixel front camera, where the variant heading to other markets will have a 32-megapixel front camera. Its rear camera setup has a 108-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel wide-angle/macro camera, and an 8-megapixel telephoto snapper with 5x optical zoom. Other features of the phone include a 4,500mAh battery, Android 11 OS, mono speaker, display output, Google Assistant button, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. It will come in three colors like black, white, and blue.

Motorola Kyoto

The Kyoto model is aimed towards markets like global and India. It also features a centered punch-hole that offers 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. The Dimensity 720 fuels the phone with 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM. It will come with a native storage of 128 GB.

It has a 32-megapixel front camera, and its rear has a 108-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle/macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It houses a 5,000mAh battery and runs on Android 11 OS. It will also feature a Google Assistant button. The handset will be available in Iron and Cosmos colors.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post, the Kyoto model is expected to launch as Motorola Edge 20 Lite. Hence, it appears that the Berlin/Berlin NA and Pstar may hit the market with the Edge 20+ moniker. At present, there is no information available on the launch date of the Edge 20 lineup. Apart from these phones, the company is also expected to launch Moto G50 5G and Moto G60S handsets.
