Last week, OPPO had announced is software acceleration engine called Hyper Boost for significantly improving the performance its smartphones. Hyper Boost is all about optimizing the device’s performance in three areas namely, system, games and apps. The OPPO R17 and R17 Pro were confirmed as the first devices to receive Hyper Boost through a software update. Today, the Chinese manufacturer has confirmed a list of OPPO phones that will be upgraded to Hyper Boost through the latest ColorOS 5.2.1 update.

The OPPO Find X is scheduled to receive the Hyper Boost engine in this month. In November, the Chinese manufacturer will be making it available to devices like OPPO R11, R11 Plus, R11s, R11s Plus, A83 and A1.

In December, the OPPO R9s, R17, R15, R15 Dream Mirror Edition, A5, A79 and A73 will be getting the Hyper Boost engine through ColorOS 5.2.1 update. In January 2019, OPPO will be releasing the update for OPPO R9s Plus, A77 and A3.

Hyper Boost is OPPO’s version of GPU Turbo technology that is available on Huawei and Honor smartphones. Hyper Boost’s Behavior Aware Scheduling (BAS) feature can arrange the frequency of hardware in 0.2 milliseconds on a smartphone against Linux kernel of Android that adjusts hardware frequency in 20 milliseconds. This will allow the company to significantly boost the system performance on the aforementioned devices. The Chinese manufacturer had also claimed that Hyper Boost powered devices will offer up to 31.9 percent shorter loading times.

For optimized gaming experience on OPPO phones, the company has teamed up with Tencent, Netease, Unreal, Unity and others to ensure lag-free gaming on the top 100 mobile games. OPPO will be working on improving the Hyper Boost engine by adding AI features to it.

Oppo has quietly launched the third variant of its Oppo A83 (2018) smartphone in the Indian market. After the 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM models, the phone will now also be available in 2GB RAM model.

The new 2GB RAM variant of the Oppo A83 (2018), which packs 16GB of internal storage, is priced at Rs. 8,990 (approximately $121). The phone is already available for purchase through offline channels across the country.

In comparison, the 3GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 13,990 (approximately $189) while the 4GB RAM variant is priced at Rs. 15,990 (approximately $216).

Besides the change in the memory configuration, rest of the phone’s specifications remains the same. It features a 5.7-inch LCD HD+ display having a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. It is powered by MediaTek 6763T octa-core chipset paired with Mali G71 GPU.

The phone comes with a microSD card slot, enabling users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB. For photography, there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with an LED flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The device comes with an AI beauty feature which automatically beautifies selfies. While the other variant come with face unlock feature, this 2GB RAM model misses out on the facial recognition feature.

After launching its flagship smartphone Oppo F7 in India, the China-based company has now launched a new entry-level smartphone in the Indian market. Oppo has launched Oppo A83 (2018), which is an upgraded version of the Oppo A83 launched in January.

Just like its predecessor, the smartphone comes with a metal unibody design. It features a 5.7-inch Full View HD+ display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it is powered by MediaTek MT6763T (Helio P23) octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz along with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Its predecessor packs 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Coming to the camera department, the smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel selfie camera at the front with support for AI beautification technology which we’ve earlier seen on company’s more expensive devices. There’s also a 13-megapixel rear camera which also supports artificial intelligence technology for beautification effect. According to the company, its AI technology captures more than 200 facial points when a photo is taken and then uses its own data to refine features and compose the face contour.

The smartphone comes with a facial recognition feature which can be used to unlock the device. Connectivity options include Bluetooth v4.2, Micro-USB port, GPS/ A-GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor.

It runs on the old Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out of the box with the company’s own ColorOS 3.2 on top. The smartphone is powered by a 3,180mAh battery.

As we reported earlier, Oppo has today launched a new mid-range smartphone in the Indian market — Oppo A83. The phone was originally launched in China last month. Priced at Rs. 13,999 (approximately $219), the device will go on sale in India from 20th January.

The phone will be available through Amazon India and Flipkart as well as through offline stores. The device will be available in two colour options — Black and Gold.

According to the company, the Oppo A83 has been designed in line with its UFO Curve Design Philosophy. The phone comes with a full-screen display with thin bezels and comes preloaded with the company’s AI Beauty Recognition technology to enhance selfies and group shots.

The Oppo A83 sports a 5.7-inch HD+ LCD display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6763T processor, clocked at 2.5GHz. It is coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

There is also a microSD card slot, enabling users to further expand its storage capacity up to 256GB. The rear camera sensor supports Ultra-HD mode that can create an image of 50-megapixel resolution.

OPPO had unveiled the OPPO A83 smartphone with full screen design in China in December. The Chinese firm has confirmed on the Twitter account of OPPO Mobile India that it will be launching the smartphone in India on Jan. 20. There is no confirmation on the official pricing of the OPPO A83 for the Indian markets. However, an Indian publication has learnt from its sources that it will be priced at Rs. 13,990 (~$218). The Indian variant of the smartphone will be slightly different from the Chinese model in departments like RAM and battery.

The OPPO A83 features a 5.7-inch LCD display that produces HD screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. It offers an aspect ratio of 18:9. The MediaTek Helio P23 (MT6737T) that features a 2.5 GHz octa-core processor powers the smartphone.

The OPPO A83 that was released in China features 4 GB of RAM, but the model that is arriving in India is speculated to include 3 GB of RAM. Instead of 3,090mAh battery found on the Chinese model, the OPPO A83 for India is expected to house a 3,180mAh battery. The smartphone does not feature a fingerprint scanner. Instead, it comes with facial recognition feature that can unlock the phone in 0.18 seconds by identifying 128 unique features on the face of the user.

OPPO seems to be on a roll in the last few days to the end of the year. After announcing the OPPO A75 and A75s duo in Taiwan yesterday, it has returned to China to unveil the OPPO A83.

OPPO A83 Design

The A83 has a design similar to the A75 released yesterday. The key difference only being the absence of a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. You won’t find the scanner in front too as OPPO has decided to go the iPhone X route by completely ditching the biometric scanner and sticking to Face Unlock.

The OPPO A83 has a metal back that curves at the edges for better handling. The primary camera is raised and there is a LED flash on its right. OPPO’s logo in silver chrome sits in the middle.

Up in front, we get another full-screen display with reduced white bezels on the gold variant and black on the black variant.

OPPO A83 Specs

OPPO’s A83 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display. It packs 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor. OPPO didn’t disclose the processor type but this should be the Helio P23.

The phone has a 13MP rear camera that OPPO says can shoot up to 50MP. This is most likely achieved by stitching several shots together. There is an 8MP sensor with AI beauty mode for selfies.

The selling point of the OPPO A83 is its face unlock feature. Unlike its other recent releases that have Face Unlock and a fingerprint scanner, the A83 ditches the fingerprint sensor.

OPPO claims the phone scans for 128 different facial features and unlocks in just 0.18 seconds! To get a clearer picture of the speed, the OnePlus 5T which has one of the fastest face unlock features unlocks in 0.4 seconds.

Is it secure enough to replace the fingerprint scanner? We will have to put it to the test to find out. OPPO also doesn’t mention if it supports payments which is a bummer.

The A83 rounds up its specs with a 3180mAh battery and runs ColorOS 3.2 out of the box.

OPPO A83 Price and Availability

The OPPO A83 is priced at ¥1399 (~$214) and comes in Champagne and Black color variants. Pre-orders are live on the official online OPPO shop already and sales will commence on the 29th of December. Those who pre-order will get a free pair of QY7 bluetooth headphones.

Apple killed the popular Touch ID sensor on the bezel-less iPhone X and launched it with Face ID facial scanning feature. Fresh information indicates that OPPO will also use the same strategy on its upcoming budget phone. Leaked user manual of the forthcoming OPPO A83 has revealed that even though it is arriving with an 18:9 display, it won’t be featuring a fingerprint reader. Instead, it is speculated to arrive with a face scanning feature.

The OPPO A83 has already received TENAA certification. The details that have emerged through its user manual corresponds with the specs that were seen on TENAA. It will be arriving with a 5.7-inch display that will be carrying support for HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The handset will be measuring 150.5 x 73.1 x 7.7mm.

It has a single rear camera of 13-megapixel and its front panel houses an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. Since the fingerprint scanner cannot be seen on the front or rear sides of the OPPO A83, it appears that the only biometric recognition feature on the phone would be facial scanner.

Rumors have it that the MediaTek Helio P23 SoC will be powering the OPPO A83 along with 2 GB of RAM. It will be arriving with an inbuilt storage capacity of 16 GB and it will be fueled by a 3,090mAh battery. It will be running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat that will be skinned with ColorOS.

The company’s upcoming Oppo A83 smartphone has appeared on TENAA, revealing some of the phone’s specifications. TENAA is a Chinese certification authority, similar to FCC in the U, and requires every smartphone to get certified.

According to the listing on TENAA, the smartphone measures 150.5 x 73.1 x 7.7mm and weighs around 143 grams. It features a 5.7-inch TFT HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. In line with the current trends, the smartphone has narrow bezels surrounding the display.

The phone is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core processor, along with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Currently, it is not known what chipset is powering the phone. There is a microSD card slot, allowing users to further expand internal storage up to 128GB.

As of the camera, the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera with an LED flash. There is also an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper. It runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with the company’s own UI skin on top.
