Google has rolled out extended service programs for selected Pixel 9 series phones after finding hardware problems in a small number of units. The move affects the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with free repairs or full replacements offered based on model and eligibility.

For the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, Google has introduced an Extended Repair Program that focuses on display defects. The coverage lasts for three years from the original retail purchase date. Devices qualify if they show a vertical line running from the bottom to the top of the display. Pixel 9 Pro units may also qualify if the display flickers at times. If a service center confirms the issue after inspection, users can get a free display replacement. Repairs can be done at Google walk in centers, authorized service partners, or through online repair options, depending on location.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold falls under a separate Extended Warranty Program. Instead of a screen repair, eligible users may receive a full device replacement at no cost. This program applies to hardware issues that affect core device functionality, including the same vertical line display defect seen on other Pixel 9 Pro models. Depending on where the user lives, replacements may be handled online, at participating Google Stores, or through walk in centers that can approve a remote replacement.

Google says only a limited number of devices are affected. All phones submitted under these programs will go through an eligibility inspection. Devices with cracked displays, cover glass damage, or liquid damage may be disqualified. Fees may apply if the issue is outside the program scope. Proof of ownership may be requested during the process. Users must be 18 years or older, or have a parent or guardian complete the request.

Both programs start on December 8, 2025, and run through authorized online and in store channels. Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL users are eligible for free display repairs, while Pixel 9 Pro Fold users can receive one free replacement per device. Users who already paid for eligible repairs will be contacted by email with next steps. All repairs and replacements come with a 90 day warranty, in line with local consumer laws.

Google has launched the much anticipated Pixel 9 series with new AI features, a refreshed design and new colors. The phone is expected to be released on August 22. However, unlike the predecessors, the Pixel 9 series does not come with the latest Android out of the box.

Pixel phones have always been the best platform to showcase the features of the new Android system. This time, however, users won’t immediately be able to experience the latest features of Android.

Google offers a number of AI features which are developed based on Android 14

Fortunately, Google ported some of the new features of Android 15 to Android 14. For example, the screenshot interface on the Pixel 9 adopts the new design of Android 15, with the preview window placed above the new pill-shaped tray with rounded buttons. There is also a dedicated app for screenshots that is supposed to help the user in finding out information from all the screenshots in the device. It can also function as a reminder.

Nonetheless, the new Pixel lineup currently doesn’t have support for the “Private Space”, which requires the system to be based on Android 15.

Some of the AI additions to the Pixel 9 series include Gemini Live and the Pixel Studio image generator, which lets you generate images completely on the device within a couple of seconds based on text prompts. There is also a camera feature called “Add me”, which makes capturing group photos a lot easier my merging two different images together that contain different people in the frames. Google has developed all these features based on Android 14.

While initial reports indicated a limited launch of Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold in India, Google’s official website now confirms the arrival of Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The entire series will be available not only on Flipkart but also through Reliance Digital and Croma.

Key details of the Pixel 9 Pro XL were recently leaked. As per the report, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL will feature a 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2992 x 1344 pixels and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It will be powered by the Tensor G4 chip and M2 security chip, with 16 GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 128 GB to 1 TB. The device will run Android 14, with an upgrade to Android 15 expected soon after launch.

For cameras, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a 42 MP front camera, and a triple rear camera setup with a 50 MP primary sensor, a 48 MP ultrawide lens, and a 48 MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. Pixel 9

Being in line with the previous leaks, the renders reveal a flat design with a camera island that is no longer connected to the frame. All models feature centered punch-hole front cameras.

Pixel 9 Pro

The standard Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro come with a single pill-shaped camera cutout on the back, while the Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes with dual pill-shaped cutouts for the same. The standard Pixel 9 still offers a dual camera setup on the back. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold also appears to have a triple camera setup on the back similar to the Pixel 9 Pro.

Pixel 9 Pro Fold

The Pixel 9 could offer a 6.3″ “Actua” display, which is slightly bigger than the 6.2″ one of its predecessor. The main camera and the ultrawide reportedly boast 50MP and 48MP sensors inside respectively. For context, the ultrawide is upgraded from 12MP. The phone uses a 10.5MP selfie camera similar to its predecessor. There is no more reliable information about the sensors at this point.

While the renders show a total of three models, according to a previous rumor, there are a total of four models in the Pixel 9 series – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google’s upcoming flagship phone series, the Pixel 9, is scheduled to launch worldwide on August 13th. With the launch date nearing, leaks have already revealed a lot of details about the new devices.

However, a recent report has introduced an unexpected twist — the Pixel 9 might not come with the anticipated Android 15 update at launch. Instead, it may ship with Android 14, breaking Google’s usual practice of releasing its phones with the latest Android version.

According to Android Headlines, all four models in the Pixel 9 series—the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold (the successor to the Pixel Fold), and the new Pixel 9 Pro XL—are expected to come with Android 14.

We’ve covered several reports suggesting that Google Pixel phones may soon support satellite communication. New evidence from the Android 15 Beta 4 now confirms that Google is working on bringing satellite emergency call support to Android smartphones.

According to Android Authority, the fourth beta of Android 14 has code strings referencing the upcoming satellite connectivity features. The feature will likely be called “Pixel Satellite SOS.”

Although not confirmed, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold are expected to be the first to benefit from this feature. These smartphones will reportedly come equipped with Samsung’s new Exynos 5400 modem, which has Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) capabilities essential for satellite communication.

The code strings further reveal that satellite communication will be limited to text messages sent through Google Messages. Additionally, similar to Apple’s initial offering, Google might provide a two-year grace period where Pixel Satellite SOS is free. 

However, the pricing structure after this initial period is still unknown, with no indication from Google about potential subscription costs yet. While Apple also offers emergency calls via satellite, it is unclear whether Google plans to extend its emergency satellite functionality beyond messaging. 

Another notable point from the code is that the feature might not be available for Pixel 9 phones at their launch on August 13th or could be initially restricted to certain regions. Eligible Pixel smartphones might require a software update to enable Pixel Satellite SOS.

Besides Pixel phones, Samsung is also preparing to introduce satellite connectivity to its Galaxy phones soon. Support for this feature has been found in three different Samsung apps, suggesting the company is in the final stages of development.

However, the camera specifications of all four models of the Pixel 9 series have been revealed in advance thanks to a source inside Google (via Android Authority). According to the report, the Pixel 9 series comes with major enhancements in the camera hardware.

Google Pixel 9

The regular Pixel 9 is reportedly replacing the Sony IMX386 ultrawide with the new Sony IMX 858 sensor. The new sensor is slightly larger at 1/2.51” as compared to the 1/2.8” size of the previous one. The new sensor for the ultrawide also has a much higher 50MP resolution than the previous 12MP one, which is also expected to offer better details.

The selfie camera will use autofocus like the Pixel 8 Pro. However it will use the same ISOCELL 3J1 sensor. The main camera will also use the same ISOCELL GNK sensor as the predecessor. The Pixel 8 has a fixed focus selfie camera that can offer less sharp photos when taken from a closer distance. Thankfully, this is going to change starting with Pixel 9.

Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL

As you can see from the image, both phones will be equipped with the same camera hardware. According to the source, both the periscope telephoto and the ultrawide of the two models will use the Sone IMX 858 sensor, which is also used in the ultrawide of the standard Pixel 9. This new 50MP Sony sensor replaces the 48MP telephoto and ultrawide sensors of the Pixel 8 Pro.

The main camera of the two models continues to use the same ISOCELL GNK sensor. The front camera of the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will also use the same Sone IMX 858 sensor. This is a major upgrade (at least in terms of resolution) as it replaces the 10.5MP 1/3.1″ sensor of the Pixel 8 Pro.

According to the leak, the base Pixel 9 will start at €899 for the 128GB model and €999 for the 256GB model. The available colors are reported to be Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Cosmo (likely pink), and Mojito (presumably green).

Following user frustrations with the under-display fingerprint sensor introduced on the Pixel 6, Google appears to be making a change with the Pixel 9 series. 

According to a report by Android Authority, the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro will replace the current optical sensor in favor of an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, however, is expected to maintain its side-mounted capacitive sensor.

Ultrasonic fingerprint technology utilizes inaudible sound waves to map a user’s fingerprint. This method offers several potential advantages over the optical sensors used in previous Pixels. 

Unlike optical sensors that rely on light and can be hampered by screen protectors, ultrasonic sensors can create a more detailed “reproduction” of the fingerprint ridges and valleys, leading to faster and more reliable unlocking. 

The specific ultrasonic sensor rumored for the Pixel 9 is the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Gen 2 (QFS4008). Introduced in 2021, this sensor boasts a larger surface area (8x8mm) compared to its predecessor which allows for easier finger placement and captures more biometric data for improved accuracy. 

Additionally, the QFS4008 is claimed to be faster than previous solutions, particularly when fingers are wet – a common pain point for optical sensors. It’s the same sensor used on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. 

Google’s decision to switch to fingerprint sensor technology is not surprising. Since the Pixel 6, users have reported inconsistent performance with the under-display sensor, especially compared to the highly regarded rear-mounted Pixel Imprint scanner used on earlier models. 

While Google made improvements with the Pixel 6a sensor, limitations like a reduced number of registerable fingerprints remained. 

The delay in adopting ultrasonic technology is somewhat puzzling. Fortunately, there is universal face unlock on the Pixel 8 that worked quite well. However, face unlock has its limitations. 

Its reliance solely on the front camera renders it unusable in low-light conditions, highlighting the need for a robust alternative like a reliable fingerprint sensor.

Earlier this month, the Russian source Rozetked revealed the first live photos of the Google Pixel 9 phones. Now, the same source has shared core architecture details and preliminary benchmarks of Google’s Tensor G4 chips powering these devices.

The leak shows that the Tensor G4 uses a 1+3+4 core configuration, with the powerful Cortex-X4 as the primary core, three mid-range Cortex-A720 cores, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A520 cores.

This architectural layout differs completely from the original Tensor and G2’s 2+2+4 setup and the Tensor G3’s 1+4+4 configuration. Interestingly, Google appears to be returning to an octa-core CPU layout from the nine-core design used in the Tensor G3.

Here’s a comparison table of the Tensor G4 against previous Tensor SoCs (via 9to5Google):

Regarding benchmarks, all devices scored over 1 million points on AnTuTu. To be specific, the base Pixel 9 scored 1,016,167 points, the Pixel 9 Pro scored 1,148,452 points, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL scored 1,176,410 points.

The vanilla Pixel 8 scores about 900,000 points on AnTuTu so the performance gain on the Pixel 9 is not very significant.

However, these are early benchmarks on devices running pre-release software. Further software optimization and tuning are still to come that should make the phone’s overall performance even better.

A fresh leak from Android Central adds weight to reports of Google releasing three Pixel 9 phones. Allegedly, the publication has received cases for all the Pixel 9 models from case maker Thinborne. 

The cases reveal some physical details about the Pixel 9 design. They reveal flat sides and smooth corners for the phones, a shift from the curved design of the Pixel 8. 

They still keep the signature camera bar on the back, but there are rumors that it may adopt rounded ends this time around. Renders of all the devices in the Pixel 9 series have been leaked which shows similar changes hinted at by the cases. 

As far as the specs go, the Pixel 9 phones are expected to be powered by the Tensor G4 chip. A leak last month revealed that the Pixel 9 Pro will come packed with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB storage. We can expect a similar memory configuration for the Pixel 9 XL as well. 

The base Pixel 9 is expected to stick with the dual-camera setup as its predecessor. Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL will likely have a triple camera setup on the back. 

Moreover, a rumor last month revealed that Google might rename the upcoming Pixel Fold 2 as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. There might also be Pixel 9a which may debut in 2025. So that means the Pixel 9 line will technically have five devices in its portfolio.

We have seen the renders of all three devices, and now real-life images of the Pixel 9 Pro have popped up online. The images, shared by a Russian website named Rozetked, supposedly showcase the Pixel 9 Pro’s design alongside some potential specs.

First things first, the phone looks a bit worse for wear in the images, with visible cracks on the back. But they still reveal a lot about the device. 

Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen, this Pixel appears smaller, suggesting it could be a 6.1-inch display. What strongly hints that it’s a Pixel 9 Pro is its triple camera setup on the back.

The regular Pixel 9 will stick with the dual-camera setup like its predecessor, while the rumored Pixel 9 XL is said to have a triple camera setup, paired with a 6.7-inch screen. So the leaked image certainly seems like of Pixel 9 Pro.

Nonetheless, one image reveals the phone in fast boot mode, showing its codename “caiman” and some key specs. These details align with earlier reports associating this codename with the Pixel 9 Pro.

Interestingly, the leaked info suggests a big RAM upgrade for the 9 Pro. The unit packs 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a jump from the Pixel 8 Pro’s max of 12GB. It seems storage, however, will remain at only 128GB.

More photos of the phone give a 360-degree view of the phone. The design seems to have flat sides meeting the front and back with a smooth curve.

There’s a cutout on the top, likely for the mmWave antenna, similar to the Pixel 8 Pro.

It’s important to note that these are leaks. While they match earlier renders, it’s wise to be cautious.

The service is reported to be offered initially by T-Mobile, leveraging SpaceX’s Starlink “direct to cell” network.  Initially, users will be able to send text messages but not make calls.

SpaceX recently obtained FCC approval to expand its cellular Starlink testing across the US, including statewide trials in several states and preparations for global testing.

Earlier in March, SpaceX successfully completed tests of its cellular Starlink service using unmodified phones from leading manufacturers, including the Pixel line.

Android Authority reports that Pixel 9 emergency texting will respond to specific prompts, allowing emergency services to streamline communication and provide faster assistance. The functionality mirrors Apple’s Emergency SOS feature on iPhones.

In February, Google announced a collaboration with AST SpaceMobile to advance satellite connectivity for Android devices. This partnership saw Google join mobile carriers AT&T and Vodafone in investing $110 million into AST SpaceMobile, a company developing orbiting space-based cell towers.

The second developer preview of Android 15 further bolstered existing support for satellite roaming. 

Engineering VP Dave Burke highlighted that the release incorporates “UI elements to ensure a consistent user experience across the satellite connectivity landscape” and enables satellite connectivity support for both Google’s own and third-party messaging applications.

Beyond the Pixel 9 series, Android Authority reports that satellite connectivity is also expected to be included in the next generation of the Pixel Fold.

Google usually holds a launch event around October every year to announce its latest Pixel series smartphones. With the Pixel 8 series being quite successful, the brand is already working on the next iteration, known as the Pixel 9 series. CAD renders of the Pixel 9 Pro recently emerged online. Now, we have managed to get our hands on the case images of the Pixel 9 Pro.

The case images come from an industry source who has claimed that this is the final design of the Pixel 9 Pro. The rendered image again confirms the horizontal pill-shaped came module that was featured in a leak yesterday. Three camera lenses are visible in the renders along with a sensor and an LED flash tucked in the right corner of the camera island.

In addition to the updated camera island, the Pixel 9 Pro is expected to showcase flat edges, possibly featuring a flat display. The recently released Galaxy S24 smartphones also adopt a comparable flat design, reminiscent of recent iPhones. This design shift, more visually appealing than the curved design of the Pixel 8 Pro, may sacrifice some comfort in hand-holding for the sake of aesthetics. The SIM tray will be moving from the left side to the top of the device, and the volume rocker and power buttons will be present on the right.

As per a leaked design, the smartphone’s dimensions are projected to be 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm. It is expected to sport a 6.5-inch flat display, slightly smaller than the 6.7-inch screen seen in the Pixel 8 Pro. The device is likely to be powered by the upcoming Tensor G4 chip, featuring CPU cores derived from Samsung’s Exynos 2400 SoC and a GPU designed by Google. Meanwhile, the Pixel 10 series is rumored to house the Tensor G5 chip, purportedly manufactured by TSMC based on Google’s in-house designs.

In October 2023, Google introduced the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones. Although only around three months have passed since their launch, the rumor mill is already abuzz with details about the successors to the Pixel 8 duo. A new report by MySmartPrice, with prominent leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka OnLeaks) as the source, has revealed the key details of the Pixel 9 Pro. Here is a look at all the details that have emerged through the leak.

Google Pixel 9 Pro design revealed

The publication has shared four CAD renders as well as a 360-degree video of the Google Pixel 9 Pro. The report reveals that the Pro model will be equipped with a 6.5-inch flat display, which means it will be smaller than the Pixel 8 Pro, which features a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel.

The screen has rounded corners and a centrally positioned punch-hole. As far as bezels are concerned, they appear quite thin, indicating that the device will offer an impressive screen-to-body ratio.

As per the report, the edges of the Pixel 9 Pro are flat, with the right side featuring a power key and a volume rocker. The left side of the device only has the antenna markings. The top edge of the Pixel 8 Pro has a microphone and an mmWave antenna cover, whereas the bottom features a SIM slot, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille.

The back panel of the Pixel 9 Pro will have a slightly redesigned horizontal camera module, which will comprise a main camera probably with support for a variable aperture, an ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto camera. The thickness of the device at the camera will be 12mm, and its overall dimensions are said to be 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm.

The report has no information about the other specs of the Pixel 9 Pro. However, a recent report claimed that the Pixel 9 lineup will have an exclusive Pixie AI assistant.
