Xiaomi has officially stepped into the smart tracking market with the launch of the Xiaomi Tag. This is a compact Bluetooth tracker designed to help you find misplaced keys, wallets, luggage and more, all while offering cross-platform support that sets it apart from many rivals. Unlike proprietary solutions that tie you to a single mobile ecosystem, the Xiaomi Tag is built to work seamlessly with both Apple’s and Google’s ecosystems, giving users flexibility whether they use an iPhone or Android device.

Xiaomi Tag: Lightweight Design with Practical Tracking Tools

The Chinese tech giant’s latest smart tracker sports a minimalist white plastic build, weighing just around 10g and measuring about 7.2mm thick. So it is slim enough to slip into a wallet or attach to keychains and bags with a compatible strap or accessory.

Xiaomi Tag

Inside, the tracker uses Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC for connectivity with nearby devices, and it’s powered by a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery that Xiaomi says can last over one year before needing a swap. But one thing that sets this smart tracker apart from the crowd is the cross platform tracking via Apple Find My and Google Find Hub. This allows items to be located by compatible devices across ecosystems.

There is also a built-in buzzer that plays a tone when triggered from your phone, which is handy for finding an item nearby. Xiaomi offers “Left Behind” alerts as well, to notify you when you walk away from a tagged object. It supports Lost Mode and contact details so others can also help return a missing item via pop-ups if discovered on another network phone. This model gets an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The Xiaomi Tag has just released in Malaysia, being available in a single white color option. It carries a RM 79 (roughly 20 US Dollars) price tag for a single unit, while a pack of four is available for RM 299 (roughly 77 US Dollars).

Motorola has just launched a new smart tracker that will rival the Apple AirTags for Android devices. It is aptly dubbed the Moto Tag and it arrives with support for UWB tech and Google’s network as well to help find your tagged items with ease.

Moto Tag: What makes it special?

The company announced the Moto Tag with enhanced precision thanks to support for the Ultra Wideband technology (UWB). So smartphones that also come with UWB tech can take advantage of this. An example is the brand’s very own Edge 50 Ultra. It is worth noting that the integration with the Find My Device app won’t be available at launch and will arrive in a future update. Similar to the Apple AirTag, the Moto Tag has a circular body that also houses a multifunction button.

This serves the purpose of ringing a paired smartphone and taking pictures remotely. Motorola has placed an emphasis on privacy with the Moto Tag, which uses end-to-end encryption on the Google Find My Device network. In other words, your location data should remain private. For added security, it offers alerts to users regarding an unknown tracker along with manual scans. The body of the Moto Tag comes with an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, making it durable enough for outdoor use.

Thanks to Google Fast Pair, the setup process is convenient, while the Moto Tag app offers functions like battery monitoring and alert volumes. Motorola claims that its smart tracker has a year long battery life. The CR2032 battery cell is also replaceable. The Moto Tag is set to launch in select markets for a 29 US Dollar price tag for one, while a pack of four costs 99 US Dollars. It is listed in two color options, namely Blue and Green variants. The brand will release the smart tracker on 2nd August 2024.

Samsung‘s next-gen tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag 2, is gradually gaining traction with recent updates pointing towards significant improvements over its predecessor. After a previous hint of the new device earlier in July, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 has earned all the necessary certifications it needs. That could only mean one thing. Read on to find more.

The SmartTag was previous spotted earlier this month when it got a Bluetooth SIG certification

Last month, the SmartTag 2 obtained Bluetooth SIG certification with Bluetooth 5.3 support, an advancement over its predecessor’s Bluetooth 5.2, aiming to enhance power consumption, device performance, and user experience. Further confirmation comes from the SmartTag 2’s recent emergence in an FCC application, carrying the EI-T5600 model number. The device was originally spotted in the Bluetooth database, sparking anticipation for its release.

Surprisingly, Samsung has taken a new design approach for the Galaxy SmartTag 2, replacing the rectangular shape of the original SmartTag with an oblong one. It now includes a substantially larger hole for keyrings, though its actual size remains undisclosed due to a lack of reference points in the released live photo.

Key details from the FCC application reveal Bluetooth LE and UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) connectivity for the SmartTag 2. This is particularly noteworthy as the original SmartTag came in two versions, only one of which, the SmartTag+, featured UWB connectivity. The absence of any reference to a “Plus” variant in the FCC application suggests a possible single next-gen model with both Bluetooth and UWB connectivity.

Notably, the SmartTag 2 does not include a “2” in its printed name, only identified as such in its FCC application. Other known improvements over the original include enhanced wireless range, security, and a longer-lasting battery life.

Despite these revelations, Samsung has remained pretty hushed about the Galaxy SmartTag 2’s release date, and it was not announced at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event (which would’ve been a great launch pad for the new design). However, given these developments, an early release in 2024 wouldn’t be surprising at all.

Technology continues to make our lives easier. We can now use various trackers to keep track of our belongings, which we might worry about losing. The most popular tracker is Apple’s AirTag, but there are also other options available. For example Jio has launched a new tracking device in India called the JioTag, as an affordable option for locating your lost items. Here are the details…

The JioTag Has a Replaceable Battery That is Said to Last for Up to a Year

Jio has recently launched its new tracking device, the JioTag, in India. The JioTag is a small, portable device that can be attached to your belongings, such as your keys, wallet, or backpack. If you ever lose one of these items, you can use the JioTag to track it down. The device uses Bluetooth Low energy technology to connect to your smartphone. Once the JioTag is paired with your phone, you can use the JioThings app to track its location. The app will show you the JioTag’s current location on a map, as well as its last known location.

If the JioTag is out of range of your smartphone, the Jio Community Network can help you find it. The Jio Community Network is a group of people who have volunteered to help find lost JioTags. When a JioTag is lost, it will send out a signal to the Jio Community Network. If someone in the network finds the JioTag, they can use the JioThings app to report its location.

The JioTag is a very affordable option for tracking your belongings. It costs just Rs. 749, which is much less than the price of other tracking devices, such as the Apple AirTag. The JioTag is also very easy to use. Simply attach it to your belongings, pair it with your smartphone, and you’re ready to go. If you’re looking for an affordable and easy-to-use tracking device, the JioTag is a great option. It’s small, portable, and easy to use.

If there’s one thing Apple does very well, it’s making products that are already on the market popular. For example, many companies have been producing and selling various tracking devices for years. However, after the introduction of AirTag, the popularity of trackers increased tremendously. However, the increase in usage has also led to increased security concerns. In response, Apple and other manufacturers have added anti-stalking features to AirTag. However, when this feature was exploited, Tile decided to follow a completely different path. Here are the details…

Tile Adds Undetectable Anti-Theft Mode to Tracking Devices, With $1 Million Fine If Used for Stalking

It seems that there is no right or wrong solution when it comes to tracking devices. For example, it was understood that AirTag was being used for stalking shortly after it was released. Taking immediate action, Apple developed a solution, but this also led to other problems. This time, thieves started to discover tracking devices and steal things more easily using these methods. Tile, a company that produces tracking devices, has announced the addition of an Anti-Theft Mode to its devices.

The Anti-Theft Mode is designed to make Tile accessories undetectable by the anti-stalking Scan and Secure feature, which was previously implemented by Tile to prevent stalking. Scan and Secure was introduced to allow iPhone and Android users to scan for and detect nearby Tile devices to prevent them from being used for stalking purposes. Unfortunately, the feature undermined the anti-theft capabilities of Tile as a stolen device’s Tile could be located and removed. Similarly, AirTags, a competitor product, also had a similar security feature, which could locate and remove stolen AirTags.

The Anti-Theft Mode introduced by Tile disables the Scan and Secure feature so that a Tile device cannot be located by someone who doesn’t own the tracker. However, to prevent stalking, Tile has stringent usage terms, including registering using multi-factor identification, and agreeing to the usage terms, which include a $1 million fine if the device is used to track a person without their consent. The Anti-Theft Mode option is intended to make it easier to locate stolen items by preventing thieves from knowing that an item is being tracked.

Unlike other Bluetooth trackers on the market, Tile does not notify nearby smartphone users when an unknown Bluetooth tracker is traveling with them. This feature makes Tile devices more useful for tracking stolen items than AirTags. Apple has added alerts for nearby AirTags to prevent them from being used for tracking people.

However, the proactive notifications found in the Bluetooth tracker industry were designed to prevent stalking. These anti-stalking measures have been criticized for being insufficient for victim protection, as they can make Bluetooth trackers easily identifiable by thieves. To enable Anti-Theft Mode, users must link a government-issued ID card to their Tile account and undergo an advanced ID verification process that uses a biometric scan to detect fake IDs. This measure is meant to deter people from using Tile trackers for stalking or other nefarious purposes. Tile states that any individual convicted of using Tile devices to illegally track another individual without their consent will be fined $1 million, which is in the Tile terms of service.

Tile is also taking a “highly collaborative stance” with law enforcement, and users who turn on Anti-Theft Mode acknowledge that their personal information “can and will” be shared with law enforcement officials in cases of suspected stalking. Tile claims that these usage terms are “progressive safety measures” that will protect people from being stalked with Tile devices.

Google is reportedly working on its own version of Apple’s AirTag trackers, based on recent findings from Android leakster Mishaal Rahman. Evidence suggests that Google’s Fast Pair is preparing to add support for a new locator tag product type, and the company is working on Similar to the distributed tracking network Apple uses for AirTags. This new product may have Finder Network branding.

This new tracking device is codenamed “grogu,” “groguaudio,” or “GR10” and will support both BLE and UWB. It will feature a small built-in speaker and be available in a variety of colors. However, there is no information on the design and features of the device. Google’s Nest team has been working on the device, but it’s unclear what the company plans to do with it. Some reports suggest the device will launch in the first half of the year, but it could coincide with the Pixel 8 launch.

AirTags have been a huge hit for Apple, but the company has faced privacy issues with the device. Google may need additional time to consider possible scenarios and develop protections for its version of the tracker. Based on this, it is possible to say that Google will work on security measures to avoid similar problems.

In conclusion, Google is rumored to be working on a tracker similar to Apple’s AirTags, but has yet to be confirmed. Codenamed grogu, the device will support BLE and UWB. Release date uncertain, but likely in the first half of the year or at the same time as the Pixel launch 8. Google may want to consider privacy concerns before releasing a device.

However, this technology has the potential to be used for nefarious acts like stalking or tracking a person. And now, one actress in the US went through something quite similar.

An apple AirTag was put on me to track my location Saturday night. I’m sharing what happened to me so you know what to look for as I had never heard of this prior to Saturday night.

— Hannah Rose May (@Hannahrosemay_) June 28, 2022

The actress in question is Hannah Rose May who shared her entire ordeal on Twitter. For those unaware, Hannah Rose May is best known for her work in Ballers (2015), Shooter (2016) and Altered Carbon (2018). Apparently, an Apple AirTag was put on her to track her location on 25th June 2022 on a Saturday night. She was at an after hours event at Disneyland and got a “Find My” notification on her iPhone.

At first she didn’t think anything of it but opened it later on only to find that someone was tracking her for two hours. She even shared the screenshot that showed her that the current location can be seen by the owner of this item. The map also showed the whole route that was mapped by the smart tracker before she disabled it. Sadly enough, this is not an isolated incident since Hannah also shared this news on her Instagram, and found that a number of other individuals have also gone through similar experiences.

She even shared a way for Android users to find out if they are being tracked too. Apple has created a separate app for Android, which is called Tracker Detect. She also stated that AirTags are the size of a coin, so it is quite easy to slip into a purse or pocket. The Cupertino based giant has not responded to this incident directly so it remains to be seen how this situation develops since no legal or police reports have been filed at the moment.

According to a MySmartPrice report, the Chinese tech giant’s upcoming smart tracker was spotted on Bluetooth SIG certification website prior to its release. For those unaware, a smart tracker is a small device that helps users find their lost items or belongings that the tracker is attached to. Looking at the certification listing, the Huawei Tag Smart Tracker was carried the model number KRI-CE010.

As per the database, the company’s smart tracker will come with support for Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. To explain things simply, a smart tag usually works by relying on Bluetooth technology to pair with the smartphones. So, it is one of its integral features. Although, we can also expect Huawei’s smart tracker offering to feature ultra wideband technology as well, similar to the Apple AirTag.

Meaning, we might see a new Samsung and Apple rival for a smart tracker in the market. As of right now, it is unclear if the Chinese brand’s smart tag will use a custom chip or not, but since it was listed on Bluetooth SIG, we can expect the launch to be just around the corner. Notably, we had previously also reported on the company trademarking the moniker “Huawei S-Tag,” so this might be the device that had surfaced in the past.

According to a LetsGoDigital report, the Chinese tech giant has trademarked a new “S-Tag” moniker. This trademark was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The description of the trademark is quite and doesn’t offer any clear indication as to what the product actually is, but the name more or less confirms that it is a Bluetooth smart tracker.

For those unaware, a smart tag is basically a small electronic products that users can attach/keep with other objects, like a wallet, backpack, and more, to help find them in case they are lost. These smart tag Bluetooth trackers usually use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra wideband (UWB) technology to precisely pin point the tagged object’s location.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+

Previously, we had also reported on other Chinese brands like Xiaomi and OnePlus working on their own iterations of the Bluetooth tracking device. So, it arrives as no surprise that Huawei might also launch its own smart tag as well. Unfortunately, finer details regarding this product is also unknown at the moment and the available information is quite vague, but we can expect to hear more about this in arriving weeks. At the very least, we do know that this product will be launching in Europe, so stay tuned for more updates.

The patent from the company was recently granted and had the title of “Method and Device for Finding Objects.”

The patent has the application number CN106877911B and was first applied back in 2017. This patent is regarding a method and device that is capable of finding items, as reported by ITHome. In other words, the product in question could be used to find lost items of the user. Meaning, it should be similar to or could actually be a smart tag from the Chinese tech giant. In recent times, certain smartphone makers have launched their own iterations of a smart tracker device, including the Cupertino based company, Apple.

For those unaware, Apple recently launched the AirTag, which is a smart tracking device, that helps users find lost objects or keep track of certain accessories. So, Xiaomi might also be working on a product that offers similar functionality but at a price tag that makes it more accessible to the broader audience. Although, this is just speculation at the moment, so take it with a pinch of salt. Unfortunately, this is still a patent and it is too early to tell if the smartphone maker is actually working on such a product or just covering all bases, so stay tuned for more updates.

Just managed to get a bit of charge in the s5 to have a play. The Zeaplus Nut software downloaded and installed from play store without any problems.
The Zeaplus Nut comes with a battery pre installed so ready to go out of the box. Once you have loaded the nut software it presents you with pairing menu, allow your phone to turn Bluetooth on), next push the button on the nut for 5 seconds and it should pair up with your phone.
Now that the nut is paired you can give it a name and a photo of the object (mine is my wallet) and also setup sleep mode (can set a timer for hours that you are asleep to save battery and not get disturbed etc)

You will also need to create a login, so that you can access the nut (for china this can be a china phone number, for other parts of the world you can use Facebook login etc).

Once this is done you will have access to the tracking screen, from here you can select from

LOCATION – Brings up google maps to pin point the device.

CALL – Sends a signal to the nut and starts a loud beeping tone to help you find your item.

SHARE – This option allows you to share with Sina Weibo, for those of us not in china I think this is not really of any use, however it maybe something that the programers of the software can sort in order to upload to more useful international sites such as Facebook or Google+
Also on the share screen is a bar that shows distance between me and the nut, this goes between near, middle and far.

The next screen is the settings page, activated in top right corner of the page (look for cog), from here you have the following settings-

BEEP NUT ON DISCONNECTION – This is an on/off toggle and can be set to let you know when the phone and the nut are no longer connected (will have a play with this later and update post).

ALARM DISTANCE – This can be set between near and far (will have a play with this later and update post)

SLEEP MODE – This is an on/off toggle, below this are the from, to and repeat settings, you can set the nut to turn off between selected hours, either every day or you can set up a schedule if you want it to be off for the different times on different days.

Below this are three further options:

DECLARE LOST – At present this option is greyed out (I will ask for more info when I speak with Alex next), however the instructions advise that when this is selected, other nut users will help you find your nut and you will be notified where it has been found etc.

POWER OFF – this sends a signal to the nut to power off, it displays a reminder message telling you to press the button on the nut to wake it up, the options are cancel or ok.

DELETE – this gives you a message, are you sure to unbind nut?, options are cancel or ok

There is also an information page (select the question mark in the top right hand corner) that tells you about the functions etc, the English is not the best but it is easy to get the general meanings and figure out how to work things.

Zeaplus is a relatively new company but it has already made headlines with its affordable Zeaplus M4 and the powerful Zeaplus M6.
Today the company announced another product, which is not a smartphone but a smart tracker which helps you to keep a track of your important things.
The device called as the Zeaplus Nut works together with a smartphone app and tracks all the connected
objects. You can control up to 20 objects out of which 6 can be online at a time.
The app allows you to set reminders so that you never forget your device and even if you do, the nut will sound an alarm if the objects goes beyond a certain distance.
Similarly, you can find your phone too using the chip. Just long press on the nut and your phone will start flashing and making a sound, which will help you find your phone.

It comes with rechargeable button battery with 3 months standby time.

As a part of the launch promotion, the company is giving away one free Zeaplus Nut to a lucky winner who shares what they think about the device in their forums.

So, just go to the Zeaplus forum and write what you think and you may win a free Zeaplus nut tracker.
