ASUS has rolled out Android 10 stable updates to the Zenfone 6 and Zenfone 5Z. Now it is rolling out a beta update to the Zenfone Max Pro M1 and the Zenfone Max Pro M2, its popular mid-range phones from 2018.

ASUS promised the Zenfone Max Pro M1 would get two Android upgrades and it already got one last April when it was updated to Android 9 Pie. Since the Max Pro M1 will be getting Android 10, it only makes sense that its successor, the Max Pro M2 also gets updated. Both devices launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

The beta update for the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes as version 17.2017.1911.407 and weighs in at 1.6GB in size. The update for the Max Pro M2 arrives as version 17.2018.1912.409 and is 1.5GB in size. If you are interested in trying it out, you can download it for your device from the source links below and sideload it on to your device. This is a beta update, so it is expected to experience issues. It is therefore advised that you backup your data before updating.

Android 10 brings changes in the user interface, Dark Mode, Smart Reply for messaging apps, and a new navigation system.

ASUS first unveiled the Zenfone Max Pro M2 in Russia in November last year and one month later, the model was launched in India and Indonesia. The phone has since gone on sale in those markets. In addition, ASUS has expanded its sales network as the models are now on sale in Europe via the companies official store in France, Italy, Spain, and Russia. In addition, the release of the Zenfone Max Pro M2 has affected the pricing of its predecessor, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 which is now cheaper.

Both the Zenfone Max Pro M2 and M1 are defined by their affordable prices, pure Android OS and massive 5,000mAh batteries. As for their pricing, the Zenfone Max Pro M1’s base version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage is listed for €200 in France while the 4GB+64GB version is 11% off (€250). On the other hand, the M2 is on sale for €300 and if you buy one over the next 6 months, you’ll get an €80 voucher to spend on Asus.com (valid for 3 weeks). This isn’t applicable in Italy where the M2 is on sale for €300. However, the M1 comes in cheaper at  €180. The price of the Zenfone Max Pro M1 in Spain is still a huge €300 which isn’t in any way a bargain. In the Netherlands, the M2 is already out of stock but it has a retail price of €220. Finally, in In Russia, the M1 starts at RUB 14,000, the M2 at RUB 18,000.

To recall, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 features a 6.2-inch Full HD+ screen giving a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels on 19:9 aspect ratio screen and 450 nits brightness. It is powered by  Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform which works together with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. On the camera end, the device comes with a vertically-stacked dual camera setup, featuring a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. It is accompanied by 5-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the front side, there’s a 13-megapixel selfie camera with an LED flash that supports Face Unlock. Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, the budget mid-range offering from the Taiwan-based company has been well-received in India, making its mark in the country’s mid-range segment. Now, the company is all set to launch its successor today.

While the company is launching the Zenfone Max Pro M2, Asus has also revealed that the Zenfone Max Pro M1 will receive the latest Android Pie update early next year, by the end of February 2019, along with the Zenfone Max M1.

Notably, the phone comes with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box and runs the stock version without any custom user interface. However, the phone is not a part of the Android One program from Google.

The report says that the company is currently testing the Android Pie update internally. Also, the Zenfone 5Z, another mid-range smartphone from the company, is slated to receive the Android 9 Pie updated by the end of January 2019.

As for the specifications, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 features a 5.99-inch Full View Full HD+ display with 2160 x 1080 pixels screen resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 636 processor and comes in three variants — 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage.

It also supports microSD card, enabling users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity. In terms of photography, the device features a vertically arranged dual camera setup equipped with Softlight LED on its rear panel. It comprises a 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture for depth sensing.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro 2 is launching on Dec. 11 in Indonesia. A YouTube video showcasing the unannounced smartphone had surfaced recently. However, it was soon taken down. Recently, an Indian site had shared the front and rear renders of the smartphone. Even though the website has taken down the post that carried the leaked renders, various tech sites have already circulated the image. The said renders are also available on SlashLeaks.

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 renders show that it features a notched screen with tall aspect ratio. The chin of the device seems to be as thick as the notch of the smartphone.

Rumors have it that the notch of the Max Pro 2 includes a softlight LED flash, a proximity sensor and an f/2.0 aperture 13-megapixel selfie camera. It is rumored to be equipped with 6.26-inch display that supports 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. Both the front and rear sides of the phone are reportedly shielded by Corning Gorillas Glass layer.

The rear shell of the Max Pro M2 appears to be made out of glass. A popular tipster had recently claimed that the phone is equipped with a triple camera setup. Moreover, a misleading teaser also hinted that it has a third camera. In the renders shown above, it is quite clear that it will be featuring a dual camera setup that sits flush on the back panel of the device.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 is speculated to include a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a pixel size of 1.25micron. It offers features like PDAF, EIS and LED flash. The primary lens is coupled with 5-megapixel depth sensor.

A fingerprint scanner is placed on the back panel followed by the logo of the company. It is rumored to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery. There is no confirmation on whether it supports fast charging. The icons present on the screen of the device suggests it could be running on stock Android OS. The Snapdragon 660 SoC is expected to power the smartphone. It may arrive with up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of inbuilt storage. There is no information available on the pricing of the smartphone.

Apart from having a cool design, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 has as its main selling point, an affordable pricing. The phone comes with a starting price of Rs. 10,999 ($148) in India for the variant with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant. On the other hand, the model with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage will cost Rs. 12,999 ($175). ASUS introduced a 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant in July which sells for Rs. 14,999 ($202) in India. ASUS initially made the device available in Midnight Black and Grey colour options but in August, a Blue variant was added to the mix to further boost sales.

ASUS’ Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (Pro) killer is heading to Europe. Come August 13, the Zenfone Max Pro (M1) will go on sale in Spain.

Although ASUS itself has not made an official announcement, the device has been listed on the ASUS Spain online store. When it goes on sale, the Zenfone Max Pro (M1) will sell for €249 (~$292).

The phone packs a 6-inch Full HD+ display and feels like a 5.5-inch device. It is powered by the Snapdragon 636 and the version for sale in Europe will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. If you need more storage, the phone has a dedicated MicroSD card slot that lets you add up to 2TB of extra storage.

The Zenfone Max Pro (M1) has a 13MP + 5MP dual camera combo on its rear and an 8MP front-facing camera with support for face unlock and its own LED flash. There is a fingerprint scanner on the back too.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is a pretty long name for a phone. But if you are planning on taking on one of the best mid-range phones on the market (Redmi Note 5 Pro), you might as well come with a longer name.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 launched a few months ago in India. When it was announced, ASUS revealed it would be available in three variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB, 4GB RAM + 64GB, and 6GB RAM + 64GB. However, only the 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variants are available for purchase. That may be changing soon as the page for the 6GB RAM variant has been seen on  Flipkart.

The page is still under construction but the page source does reveal some key details. The 6GB RAM variant not only has more RAM but also comes with better cameras according to the page source.

Unlike the other variants which have a 13MP primary camera on the rear, the 6GB RAM Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a 16MP sensor. Its selfie camera has also been upped from 8MP to 16MP. Its price tag which was already announced at the launch event is INR 14,999 (~$221).

Asus has released a new update for its popular mid-range smartphone Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. The new firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) update for the smartphone is the second such update rolled out by the company since the launch of the phone.

Previously, the company had released a firmware update for the smartphone right after its launch, which introduced the Face Unlock feature, as promised by the company during the phone’s launch.

The latest update brings in new features, including VoLTE support for Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel. It also brings May security patch for Android along with few bug fixes. The update also improves the response time of the fingerprint sensor as well as the performance of the front-facing camera but the company has not revealed what specifically has been improved.

If you haven’t received the update notification yet, you can manually check if the update is available for your smartphone by going into Settings > System > System update.

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is the competitor to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro and is also the first device from the company to launch as part of a new strategic partnership with online retailer Flipkart.

The smartphone is available at a starting price of Rs. 10,999 for 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and goes up to Rs 12,999 for 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. ASUS had launched the ZenFone Max Pro M1 smartphone on April 23. The Flipkart exclusive phone was made available on pre-orders for the first time on May 3 at 12 PM. Except for the base model featuring 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, all the variants of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 had gone out of stock soon after its pre-orders began. The starting variant was also sold out in couple of hours. The Taiwanese company did not confirm on the number of units of the Max Pro M1 that were sold through its first pre-orders. It only revealed that the handset had met with “tremendous response” in the country. ASUS has now announced that it will be carrying out the pre-orders for the second time on May 10.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes in multiple variants such as 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM, 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage + 6 GB of RAM. These models are respectively priced at Rs. 10,999 (~$164), Rs. 12,999 (~$193) and Rs. 14,999 (~$223) in India. The highest configuration variant was not available through during the first sale. Also, there is no confirmation whether it will be available during the second sale. The handset can be availed in Black and Gray colors. The Taiwanese firm is also providing the MaxBox dock on which the phone can be placed for amplified audio experience.

New and existing Vodafone prepaid and RED plan subscribers who purchase can take advantage of additional 10 GB monthly data for 12 months. ASUS unveiled the Zenfone Max Pro M1 on April 23 in India but the device only went up for pre-orders on May 3 and will be available for purchase on May 10. The pre-orders have shown that the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 will be a very popular one and will be sold out pretty quickly. Perhaps, in a bid to ride on the shoulders of its popularity, ASUS has released the kernel source code and bootloader unlock tool for the device.  

Thus, users can now download the kernel source code which would come in handy for the development of Custom ROM. Users can also now officially unlock the bootloader of the device but there is a caveat. Using the official bootloader unlock tool will void users’ warranty. However, the release of the official bootloader unlock tool signify that users can now flash generic system images (GSIs) of AOSP Android Oreo as well as LineageOS and ResurrectionRemix.

The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 is coming into a very competitive terrain, as it falls in the same lower mid-range segment as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in terms of specifications, including the Snapdragon 636 chip. ASUS wisely priced the Zenfone Max Pro M1 lower than its contemporary and ships it with custom Android 8.1 Oreo instead of giving it the Zen UI skin. The release of the kernel source code is another wise move to ensure the device performs very well in the market. Apart from that, the device recently received its first major update which addded Face Unlock and April security patches. The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro (M1) unveiled in India last week has been referred to as the Redmi Note 5 Pro killer. Although the latter outshines it in some departments, ASUS may have gained a new upper hand and that is in the speed of updates.

Just a week after its launch, ASUS has pushed out a new update to the device. This is no small update. Not only is it a whopping 1.3GB in size, it brings some new features and fixes some issues with the device.

According to YouTuber @geekyranjit, the update enables the Face Unlock feature, slightly improves the response time of the fingerprint scanner, and also improves the fluidity of the UI. Do note that the Zenfone Max Pro actually runs a stock-like version of Android.

The update is likely to be the one that will come bundled with the phone when it goes on sale tomorrow, so you may not receive a “new update”.

Today, through an unveiled event in Delhi, ASUS has launched the ZenFone Max Pro M1 smartphone in India. The new ASUS mid-range phone that includes the trendy 18:9 aspect ratio screen is packed with the same chipset and 6 GB of RAM that powers the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Moreover, it also includes an impressive dual camera setup and an LED flash enabled selfie snapper. The new ASUS phone is a major competitor for Redmi Note 5 Pro which is packed with similar specs. Here is all the information about the newly announced ZenFone Max Pro M1:

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 Specifications and Features

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 features a 5.99-inch Full View display that delivers a great cinematic experience as it offers features like Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels, support for 85 percent NTSC color gamut, 450-nits brightness and a contrast ratio of 1500:1. The display is placed under a layer of 2.5D arc glass.

Like the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the new ASUS phone is driven by the Snapdragon 636 SoC. Its highest configuration model has 6 GB of RAM and a native storage of 64 GB. Apart from dual-SIM slot, it features a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card. With an AnTuTu score 116618, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is 54 percent faster than the Redmi Note 5 Pro, claimed the company at the unveiling of the phone.

The high-density 5,000mAh battery of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 offers up to 199 hours of music playback, up to 25.3 hours of Full HD video playback, up to 28 hours of Wi-Fi browsing and up to 42 hours of 3G talk time. The behemoth battery of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 also supports 10W fast charging and it takes 2.42 hours to charge it to the brim.

During the launch event of the Max Pro M1, the company also claimed that with the same charging rate, the Redmi Note 5 Pro 5’s 4,000mAh battery takes 3.2 hours to charge completely. ASUS claims that the ZenFone Max Pro M1 that is the world’s thinnest smartphone with 5,000mAh battery. Its body that is made out of metal measures 159 x 76 x 8.61mm and it weighs 180 grams.

In terms of photography, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 features a vertically arranged dual camera setup equipped with Softlight LED on its rear panel. It comprises of 13-megapixel primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing. The features offered by the dual rear cameras include faster autofocus, PDAF and 4K video shooting. For snapping selfies, it is fitted with a Softlight LED enabled 8-megapixel front camera that has been optimized to capture selfie shots with bokeh effect.

ASUS phones usually feature ZenUI, but the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is the first phone that offers stock Android experience. It runs on pure version of Android 8.1 Oreo OS. One should be aware of the fact that it is not an Android One device like Xiaomi Mi A1 and Nokia 6 (2018) which means it includes some apps and features by ASUS.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 has been made to deliver impressive audio output as it includes 5-magnet speaker and NXP smart amplifier. The Taiwanese company will be also offering passive amplifier accessory called Max Box for the Max Pro M1, but its pricing and availability was not confirmed at the launch event of the phone. The MaxBox can amplify the sound output of the phone by 2 times. Its other features include rear-mounted fingerprint reader, 3.5mm audio jack, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 5.0, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi and GPS.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 Pricing and Availability

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 carries an exciting price tag of Rs. 10,999 (~$165) for the base model. The 64 GB storage + 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage + 6 GB RAM editions are respectively priced at Rs. 12,999 (~$195) and 14,999 (~$225). The handset can be availed in color choices like Deepsea Black and Gray. The handset will be exclusively available through Flipkart from May 3.

The Indian retailer giant also introduced Complete Mobile Protection plan with an introductory pricing of Rs. 49 against its regular price of Rs. 999. It covers issues like broken screen, liquid damage, hardware and software issue for 1 year with easy pick up and drop service along with other features such as one helpline service for all queries and 10-days guaranteed resolution. Flipkart will be also offering other launch-day offers like no cost EMI on all credit cards and Bajaj Finserve and Rs. 1,000 additional discount over regular exchange value on select phones.

Vodafone will be providing its consumers who purchase the ZenFone Max Pro M1 amazing offers up to Rs. 3,200 (~$48). For prepaid users with 199 plan and above and postpaid users on RED 399 plan and above, Vodafone will be offering 10 GB of additional data per month for a year. For customers with RED 499 plan and above, the mobile operator will be giving free Vodafone RED Shield device security insurance for 2 years along with 10 GB additional monthly data for 1 year.

I think we need to agree ASUS is terrible when it comes to naming its products. The only other manufacturer that matches it is Xiaomi. Take for instance this upcoming phone called the Zenfone Max Pro M1. It is different from the Zenfone Max Plus (M1) which was released in Russia as the Zenfone Max (M1). Let’s not also forget that back in 2016, ASUS released a phone called the Zenfone Max Pro which also packs a 5,000mAh battery.

Specs of the Zenfone Max Pro (M1) leaked a few days ago and it sure looks like the perfect contender to Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 (Pro). All we hope for now is an affordable price tag.

More photos of the phone have been released by Evan Blass and he also c0nfirms some of the specs. The new photos show the phone in blue and silver.

The Zenfone Max Pro (M1) has a different design from the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5z. The Max Pro M1 has a smooth metallic finish and not glass on the rear. Though the dual cameras are arranged in the same iPhone X style and there is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Up in front, the display is covered in glass. It has an 18:9 aspect ratio and the corners are curved. The bezels are moderately sized and ASUS could have put the fingerprint scanner in front if it wanted. The top bezel is home to the camera, sensor, earpiece, and a soft LED flash.

The power button and volume rocker can be seen on the right which means the SIM tray is on the left.

Through a press event yesterday, Indian e-commerce site Flipkart confirmed that it has entered a long-term relationship with ASUS to sell its smartphones in India. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 is the first phone to be born through ASUS-Flipkart partnership. The smartphone is slated to get announced on April 23. Fresh information on the specifications of the upcoming ZenFone Max Pro M1 have surfaced online.

Leaked information reveals that the ZenFone Max Pro M1 will be featuring a 6-inch Full View display that will deliver an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Snapdragon 636 chipset that powers the ZenFone 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and Meizu E3 will be present under the hood of the upcoming ASUS phone. The handset will be running on “pure” version of Android Oreo. However, there is no confirmation on whether it will be an Android One device or not.

It is expected to be available with up to 6 GB of RAM and a storage of up to 64 GB. This suggests that the handset could be available in 4 GB RAM + 32 GB storage model. It will feature a dedicated slot for microSD card apart from the dual-SIM slots.

The vertical dual camera setup of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is expected to include dual 16-megapixel sensor. For selfies, it is expected to feature a Softlight LED flash equipped front-facing camera of 16-megapixel. The front camera is expected to carry support for facial recognition. The back panel of the phone houses a fingerprint scanner that can unlock it just 0.3 seconds. The Max Pro M1 will be also arriving with a 5-magnet speaker along with NXP smart amp.

A behemoth battery of 5,000mAh capacity is expected to power the phone. Hopefully, it will also include support for fast charging. There is no information on its pricing. However, it could be competitively priced to take on 4 GB RAM + 64 GB Redmi Note 5 Pro that is selling with a price tag of Rs. 13,999 (~$213) in India.
