The world of technology is is evolving at an unprecedented pace. After a decade centered on smartphones, artificial intelligence and mixed reality have captured the spotlight. Moreover, we expect these two technologies to combine in the near future, and leading to even greater results than what Apple Vision Pro offers today. However, how does this expectation reflects to consumer behavior? Recent IDC research suggests a highly promising outlook for AR/VR headsets in 2024. Here are the details…
After 2023 Dip, AR/VR Headset Market Set for Explosive Growth
Despite the existence of AR/VR headsets for some time, the selection of mainstream products remains limited. Until recently, Meta’s Quest models dominated the field. However, 2023 signaled a shift with Apple’s announcement of its upcoming mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. While this development promises to energize the industry, it appears to have temporarily dampened sales. In fact, global AR/VR headset sales declined by 23.5% in 2023. This drop is likely due to consumers holding off on purchases in anticipation of the Vision Pro’s release.
Of course it’s expected that expectations will change significantly in 2024. Following the increase in the number of people purchasing Apple Vision Pro and the mainstream adoption of this technology, it is anticipated that more people will turn to alternatives. IDC estimates that sales are expected to increase by 44.2%, reaching 9.7 million units this year. Moreover, this figure is expected to continue to grow exponentially in the coming years, potentially reaching 36 million units by the end of 2028.
Remember, this is nothing more than a prediction and focuses on the current dynamics of the market. In 2023, a staggering 1.2 billion smartphones were sold globally. This widespread adoption reflects the centrality of smartphones in our lives, from essential communication to financial transactions. If AR/VR technology experiences similar significant advancements in the coming years, achieving the transformative impact of smartphones, it’s plausible that sales figures could reach comparable levels.
Xiaomi is all set to announce the Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro today, but there’s a bit of sad news accompanying the excitement. Unfortunately, the CIVI 4 Pro won’t be available globally; it’ll only be sold in China and India. This unexpected turn has disappointed many who were eagerly waiting to get their hands on this fantastic camera-focused phone. However, Indian users are in luck as they’ll have the chance to buy it.

The GSMChina team checked the Mi Code closely and discovered important details. The CIVI 4 Pro, codenamed “chenfeng” with the internal number “N9,” will have model numbers “24053PY09C / 24053PY09I,” indicating its exclusive availability in China and India.
CIVI 4 Pro
While users in India may be pleased about the phone’s availability, there are still some unknowns. We don’t know what it’ll be called in India, and there’s a chance some features might be different. All eyes are now on the launch event happening later today, where we hope to learn more about the Xiaomi CIVI 4 Pro. Until then, fans are eagerly awaiting further updates on this exciting new phone.

Artificial intelligence technologies continue to expand their reach, appearing in a wide array of products and services. Smartphones are the latest frontier, with AI features becoming increasingly common. However, these features have been limited to high-end devices due to the demanding performance requirements of AI.
Using expensive and powerful processors in every phone for AI tasks is currently impractical. To address this challenge, Korean tech giant has developed a solution “a dedicated AI accelerator chip”. Samsung plans to launch this chip, named Mach-1, in 2025. Here are the details…
Samsung Targets AI Dominance with Mach-1
Samsung recently announced its Galaxy AI alongside with the Galaxy S24 family. This includes a ChatGPT-like language model and much more artificial intelligence tasks. However, due to the high performance demands of AI, this feature is limited to a select few models. Even powerful processors like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may struggle with some future AI applications. To address this challenge, Samsung is developing its own Mach-1 AI accelerator chip.
The company has already begun development efforts. Emerging reports indicate a chip named Mach-1 is targeted for a 2025 launch. While initial models may not be power-efficient enough for immediate smartphone integration, it’s inaccurate to dismiss the possibility of a dedicated AI chip in the Galaxy S25.
This represents a significant first step, and future iterations could lead to such advancements. Additionally, Samsung plans to not only utilize the chip internally but also market it to other companies, directly competing with Nvidia. Following Nvidia’s remarkable success in AI chips over the past two years, it’s understandable for Samsung, a major player in tech, to seek entry into this market.
The dominance of Nvidia’s AI technology is evident with companies like Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI, Amazon, and Google relying on their chips, translating to billions in revenue. While Samsung is known to be developing similar processors, a concrete product launch hasn’t materialized yet. This lack of competition could potentially lead to an unbalanced market. Samsung’s entry into this field is crucial to fostering a healthy competitive environment.
OnePlus has recently introduced a new model to its 12R lineup in India, targeting users looking for more storage without a steep price tag. The latest addition, an 8GB + 256GB variant of the OnePlus 12R, is priced at Rs. 42,999. This model fits right between the initial 8GB + 128GB version and the top-tier 16GB + 256GB model, offering a mid-range option for buyers.
This new storage variant is available across OnePlus’s online platforms, Amazon.in, and various offline stores. To attract buyers, OnePlus is offering several deals. Customers using ICICI Bank Credit Cards and OneCard can enjoy a Rs. 1,000 discount, while those looking to exchange an old device can get a bonus of Rs. 3,000, with an additional Rs. 1,000 off for OnePlus Nord owners. For a limited time, buyers will also get a free pair of OnePlus Buds Z2.
Additionally, OnePlus is providing a 9-month No-Cost EMI option and Jio Benefits that include Rs. 150 off per month for 15 months, totaling Rs. 2,250 in savings.
OnePlus 12R specs:
The OnePlus 12R features a 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The screen offers a 1.5K resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 4,500 nits of brightness. It runs on Android 14 with OxygenOS 1 and promises three major Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 12R is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, coupled with LPDDR5x RAM, and offers UFS 3.1. It packs a 5,500mAh battery with 100W charging support. For photography, it sports a 16-megapixel front camera and a triple-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor (Sony IMX890), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. Additional features include dual speakers, an IR blaster, NFC, and an IP65-rated chassis.
Apple‘s next year’s flagship iPhone, expected in late 2025, might come with a significant display upgrade if a recent leak proves accurate. According to a Weibo post by leaker Instant Digital, the iPhone 17 could feature a “super-hard anti-reflective layer” that boasts superior scratch resistance compared to the current Ceramic Shield found on iPhone 15 models.
Improved Viewing Experience: Less Glare for iPhone 17 Users?
The leak suggests Apple has acquired new coating equipment from Japan and integrated it into its Chinese supply chain. This equipment is likely intended for future iPhones, with the iPhone 17 being the prime candidate as it wouldn’t be ready for the upcoming iPhone 16 launch.
This rumor aligns with the ongoing advancements in display technology. Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 Ultra uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Armor, known for its impressive 75% glare reduction and significant improvement in scratch resistance compared to other smartphone displays.
While the leak doesn’t explicitly mention Gorilla Glass Armor, Apple’s long-standing partnership with Corning and the similarities in features suggest a similar technology might be in the works for the iPhone 17. It’s also possible Corning might be developing a custom solution for Apple under a different brand name.
Apple currently utilizes its “Ceramic Shield” technology, co-developed with Corning, which offers improved drop protection compared to previous iPhones. However, advancements from competitors like Samsung seem to have pushed the boundaries of what’s possible.
If this leak proves accurate, it suggests the iPhone 17 could mark a significant leap in display technology for Apple. With both improved scratch resistance and reduced glare, users can expect a more durable and visually appealing phone.

Nothing Phone (2a) has been a big success with 100,000 units sold on the first day of the sale. It retains the same transparent design as the premium Phone (2) but with slight changes. The main USP of Nothing’s smartphones are their unique back panel designs. Hence, it doesn’t make sense to slap a protective case on the device. Having said that, PBKreviews has done a drop test of the Nothing Phone (2a) if you’re clumsy and worried about its durability.
Nothing Phone (2a) drop test reveal no significant damage
The Nothing Phone (2a) sports an aluminium frame, a plastic back panel, and a Gorilla Glass 5 on the display. The frame on the White colour variant is covered up in paint. The drop test by PBKreviews includes three rounds. The phone is dropped on a concrete surface from three different heights. In the first round, it falls flat on its screen from a waist-level height. The phone comes out unscathed without any damage in this round.
Coming to the second round, the Nothing Phone (2a) is dropped from head-level height. There are only minor scrapes on the frame and the screen remains free from any scratches. The third round also does not change the durability result of the device. In the fourth round, the Phone (2a) is dropped on its frame from waist height.
The drop results indicate that the Nothing Phone (2a) is quite durable barring a few minor scrapes on the side frame. Even the plastic back panel comes out unscathed despite being dropped four times. This should solve your worry and dilemma of putting on a protective case on the smartphone and limiting its unique design.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra and the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ shared the top spot in DxOMark’s ultra-premium smartphone camera rankings last week. However, the Honor Magic 6 Pro, which debuted globally at the end of last month, has now surpassed both of these phones to become the new reigning champion as DxOMark’s best camera phone in the ultra-premium segment. The Honor Magic 6 Pro smartphone features the following rear camera system:
Ultra-wide: 50MP 1/2.88″ sensor, 13mm equivalent f/2.0-aperture lens, AF
Tele: 180MP 1/1.4″ sensor, 68mm equivalent f/2.6-aperture lens, AF, OIS
As per the DxOMark test results, the Honor Magic 6 Pro achieves excellent results across all of the tests, achieving an overall score of 158. For photos, the device is tied up with the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ for the top score of 160. It is capable of reproducing nice colors while offering excellent dynamic range, even in scenes with challenging backlight. The autofocus system of the device is a major plus point since it’s quick and accurate in all situations.
The Magic 6 Pro shined in its zoom capabilities, setting a new standard, especially with its ultra-wide and video zoom features. The ultra-wide camera’s exposure and colors were top-notch, and the telephoto lens managed to capture detailed images at a distance, though some details looked a bit off.
Video recording with HDR on the Magic6 Pro showed off its color rendering skills, with accurate colors and white balance under various lighting. It didn’t quite keep up with the iPhone 15 Pro Max in terms of exposure control, stabilization, and autofocus reliability. Still, its color quality was impressive, and it managed a good balance between texture and noise reduction, although it did face some issues with exposure stability and clarity in low light.
For more in-depth insights into the camera system, you can find a detailed review on DxOMark‘s website.

2024 is shaping up to be a great year for gaming. A fresh report has suggested that Gaming PCs could see a rebound this year. But the computers aren’t alone as Gaming Monitors are projected to continue their rise this year as well. So here’s what you need to know.
Gaming PC rebound in 2024 along with the rising gaming monitors
For those unaware, shipments of gaming PCs declined alongside the overall PC market in 2023. However, the gaming category in particular saw a notable decline of over 13 percent last year. But gaming monitors dodged this downward trend with 20 percent growth during this same period. Now, an IDC report hints that 2024 could be the year that gaming products make a comeback.
Recovering from the setback from 2023, Gaming PCs are expected to finally hit the positive with a modest 1 percent growth. PCs include the desktop and notebook segments, the latter of which is driving this growth. Meanwhile, monitors designed for gamers will continue to rise by 13.6 percent in this same period. The report adds that sustained demand helped gaming PCs despite the current situation of the global economy.
As gaming as a hobby continues to expand, peripherals like gaming monitors are becoming increasingly popular. The drop in prices has also made them more cost effective. Maximizing Your Scanning Experience: Tips and Tricks
Objects to Avoid Scanning:
Before diving into your scanning journey, it’s crucial to be aware of what objects may not yield optimal results. Avoid scanning reflective or transparent objects, as well as objects that are too thin or small. These may pose challenges for the scanner and could result in incomplete or inaccurate scans.
How toEnhance Scan Results:
Use of Transparent Spacer or Tray: Placing a transparent spacer or tray under the object can provide a stable base and improve the clarity of the scan.
Marking Method: Applying small dots or markers on the object can aid the scanner in better identifying its features, resulting in more accurate scans.
Utilize Auxiliary Products: Explore the use of special scanning spray, talcum powder, or dry cleaning spray to pre-treat hair, reflective surfaces, or other challenging objects. These products can enhance visibility and make scanning easier and clearer.
Sufficient Light: Ensure the scanning area is well-lit to provide ample illumination for the scanner to capture details accurately.
Use Diffuse Light: Whenever possible, utilize diffuse lighting to minimize harsh shadows and glare, creating a more uniform lighting environment conducive to scanning.
By keeping these tips in mind and implementing them into your scanning process, you can enhance the quality and accuracy of your scans, unlocking the full potential of your Creality CR-Scan Ferret Pro.

Samsung is one of the world’s most creative tech companies, always trying out new and unique products. This helps them stay on top in popular markets, like foldable phones, and wearables. The Korean tech giant’s next interesting idea is the Galaxy Ring. They showed it off at MWC 2024, but it’s not out yet, so it’s still a bit of a mystery. However, some new hints are exciting. It seems Samsung might connect the ring to its Food platform, which could change the way we think about eating and healthy choices. Here are the details…
How Galaxy Ring Can Help You Achieve Your Weight Goals
According to the latest reports, the Samsung Galaxy Ring will prioritize advanced health tracking. The ring’s constant presence on your finger allows it to monitor vital metrics like heart rate, sleep patterns, activity levels, also calorie intake and more. This data will sync with the Samsung Health app on your phone, enabling detailed nutrition tracking, customized meal plans, and diet recommendations tailored to your specific health goals.
Samsung Food, powered by artificial intelligence, seamlessly integrates with your Samsung refrigerator (if you have one) to analyze available ingredients. It suggests delicious recipes tailored to what you have on hand and recommends any additional items you may need from the Samsung e-Food Hall. For ultimate convenience, optimal cooking settings are automatically sent to your compatible Samsung oven (again if you have one).
The exact methods remain unclear. However, it will likely involve a sophisticated integration of sensor data and artificial intelligence. Regardless of the specifics, it seems the Galaxy Ring has the potential to significantly disrupt the traditional role of a dietitian.
Google’s annual I/O Developer conference is set to take place on May 14 this year. As usual, the search giant is expected to unveil the mid-range Pixel A-series phone along with other hardware and software announcements. The next-generation Pixel 8a has already been subject to leaks and rumours. Now a new report courtesy of Android Authority reveals a host of details of the upcoming offering.
Google Pixel 8a key details emerge in a massive leak
Google Pixel 8a CAD renders
Citing a source inside Google, Android Authority has shared key specifications of the Pixel 8a. The mid-ranger A-series phone is said to feature a significant display upgrade. While the OLED panel, display resolution, and screen size will remain the same at 6.1 inches, the refresh rate and brightness will get a huge upgrade over last year’s Pixel 7a. The device will offer a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,400 nits peak brightness.
The report adds that Google has increased the corner radius on the Pixel 8a which now measures 128px instead of 47px on the last year’s model. This is in line with the leaked renders that already revealed the design change.
The Pixel 8a will also come with DisplayPort output. This will make the feature available across the entire Pixel 8 series. The flagship models recently started getting support for display output. Under the hood, the upcoming smartphone will reportedly be equipped with a Tensor G3 chipset which also powers the non-pro and pro models. The Pixel 8a won’t get any upgrades in the camera departments. It is very much expected to retain the same setup as its predecessor which comprises a 64MP IMX787 sensor and a 13MP IMX712 lens.
Lastly, the report adds that the Pixel 8a will likely be offered in more regions compared to the limited availability of the Pixel 7a. The forthcoming smartphone includes electronic warranty labels for the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
