Corning Debuts Gorilla Armor On The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Touted To Minimize Reflections And Scratches Significantly

Samsung debuted its latest-generation flagship Galaxy S24 series last night. The smartphones come with several upgrades packed with AI features compared to their predecessors. Notably, the top-end Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with a titanium frame for durability. In addition to that, Corning also announced the Gorilla Glass Armor and the S24 Ultra is the first phone to adopt it.

Gorilla Glass Armor debuts on the Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung and Corning have been industry partners for over 50 years. Gorilla Glass has been adopted by a host of smartphone brands on their devices. With the latest Gorilla Armor, Corning is doing away from the ‘Glass’ in the moniker. It succeeds the previous Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Gorilla Armor is layered on the latest Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Corning says that the Gorilla Armor is a different kind of smartphone cover material. The panel is made up of 25 percent pre-consumer recycled content. Samsung claims that the Gorilla Armor on the S24 Ultra offers a combination of durability and visual clarity. It is also a lot different to the normal standard glass found on smartphones. The Gorilla Armor is touted to reduce reflections by up to 75 percent. This should enhance readability and minimize screen reflections in almost any environment.

On the durability front in Corning lab tests, the Gorilla Armor displayed superior results compared to aluminosilicate cover glasses. The company also developed a new Scratch Bot lab test to monitor the micro scratches caused due to daily wear. The Gorilla Armor offers a better and up to four times resistance to scratches compared to the previous iterations.

Owing to the titanium frame and Gorilla Armor, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a robust durability. We can expect durability tests (especially JerryRigEverything’s intense torture test) of the device in the coming weeks that should let us verify Corning’s claims.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S24 series at the recent Unpacked event, featuring three models: Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra. But it seems Samsung has shifted its focus to AI technology to overcome challenges in flagship sales caused by market competition. AI features took center stage at the event, overshadowing even the smartphones. But, after 2025, Samsung’s Galaxy AI features will come with extra costs for users. Here are the details…

Samsung Galaxy AI Features Free Only Until 2025!

Subscription services have become crucial in our daily lives. Subscriptions let us access various products and services without buying them outright, making things like gaming, listening music, and more affordable with regular payments. Moreover, these services cover more than just small items, they also include assets like cars and phones. The reason behind everyone wanting to establish their own subscription service is simple: a regular and uninterrupted revenue stream. Samsung aims to achieve this with Galaxy AI.

According to Samsung’s statement, the Galaxy AI features in the S24 series will be free on supported devices until the end of 2025. However, users who wish to continue using these features afterward will be required to pay a fee. Unfortunately, there is no information about the specific amount of this fee yet. Users who have already paid $799 for their phone might be disappointed if they lose critical functions a year later, but that is currently a concern for 2025.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Edges Out Exynos 2400 in Early Galaxy S24 Benchmark

After much anticipation, Samsung finally shed light on the Exynos 2400, its latest flagship chip. This chip was expected to compete closely with Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and some early Geekbench tests before the S24 series launch even suggested it could be better in some areas.

However, recent results show that the Snapdragon still has the upper hand in overall performance.

Exynos 2400 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

A Vietnamese YouTuber tested both chips in AnTuTu by comparing the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy powered S24 Ultra

The Galaxy S24 with the Exynos chip scored 1.7 million points, while the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S24 Ultra scored slightly higher at 1.8 million. This suggests a small performance difference of about 7% between the two.

However, these numbers are likely lower than what these chips are capable of. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has previously scored over 2 million in similar tests. That is likely due to the fact that the test was done on pre-production hardware running unstable software and might not show the full potential of the chips.

The YouTuber also mentioned that the larger Galaxy S24+ might perform better in comparison with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

But the test suggests that although the Exynos 2400 chip is strong and almost as good as the Snapdragon, it hasn’t quite matched it yet. It will be exciting to see how much better the Exynos 2400 can get with the right firmware update in the future. Also, with the Dimensity 9300 chip in the picture, Samsung now has stiff competition from two top-tier chips in the Android market.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite successor may have surfaced on GeekBench

Samsung recently hosted the Galaxy Unpacked event where it unveiled the Galaxy S24 series and the latest Galaxy Book 4 series for its home market. Now, it appears that a new tablet model is also in the works, which could be the successor to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

New Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite successor visits GeekBench

Google updates Chrome’s incognito mode warning after privacy lawsuit

Google has updated its explanation of incognito browsing, clarifying its function more clearly. This change follows a recent legal settlement where Google was sued for allegedly tracking users even when they were in incognito mode. The lawsuit ended with Google agreeing to pay a massive $5 billion.

Google Incognito warning update

This update was first noticed by MSPowerUser in the latest version of Google Chrome (version 122.0.6251.0). The updated disclaimer states:

“Others who use this device won’t see your activity, so you can browse more privately. This won’t change how data is collected by websites you visit and the services they use, including Google. Downloads, bookmarks, and reading list items will be saved.”

The previous version said:

“Now you can browse privately, and other people who use this device won’t see your activity. However, downloads, bookmarks and reading list items will be saved.”

So the updated disclaimer now clarifies that while incognito hides your activity from others using the same device, it doesn’t stop websites and services like Google itself from collecting your data. Downloads, bookmarks, and reading list items will still be saved, too.

Google claims the update provides “even more information” to users and they’re pleased to resolve the case, which they “long disputed.” However, the update likely reflects a desire to be more transparent after the lawsuit and potential judge’s ruling, which could have forced them to be even clearer about data collection practices.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit argued Google’s practices amounted to an “unaccountable trove of information” about users who thought they were protecting their privacy.

While Google denied the allegations, the settlement and disclaimer change suggest they’re willing to be more forthcoming about data collection in incognito mode.

This isn’t Google’s first brush with privacy lawsuits. They’ve faced accusations of violating federal wiretap laws and collecting user data from Wi-Fi networks without permission. The incognito mode case is just another reminder to be cautious about how much information we share online, even when we think we’re browsing privately.
