Samsung details Exynos 2400 CPU: 10 core CPU, Xclipse 940 GPU and more

Samsung‘s Exynos 2400, initially announced last year with minimal details, finally sheds some light on its specifications. While details were initially scarce, the chip arrives under the hood of the latest Galaxy S24 and S24+, detailing a lot about its capabilities.

Exynos 2400 processor

Samsung Exynos 2400

So the Exynos 2400 boasts a 10-core CPU configuration, featuring a powerful Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.2 GHz, accompanied by a mix of two Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.9 GHz and three Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6 GHz. There are also four Cortex-A520 cores for efficiency with a clock speed of 2 GHz.

Samsung previously confirmed the new chipset brings a 1.7x increase in CPU performance. And the powerful mix of cores in the chipset seems promising. However, we’ll need to see how it actually performs in real-world situations, especially compared to its main rival, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Anyway, the Exynos 2400 is built on Samsung’s latest 4LPP+ process and utilizes FOWLP packaging technology, both aimed at improving performance and power consumption.

For graphics-related tasks, there is a Samsung Xclipse 940 GPU. Built on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture, it comes with features like hardware-level ray tracing and AI-driven upscaling, promising more immersive visuals.

Although specific details like WGP count and clock speed remain undisclosed, Samsung claims the GPU can handle 4K gaming at 120 fps or 1440p at 144 fps on external displays.

The Exynos 2400 also touts a significantly enhanced NPU, claiming a 14x performance improvement over its predecessor. It utilizes a combination of general and dedicated AI processors, though the specific TOPS count remains unknown. For photography enthusiasts, the chip offers support for a staggering 320 MP camera sensor.

The Exynos 2400 will power a portion of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models globally, excluding specific regions like the US, China, Canada, and Japan.

While some key details remain obscured, the revealed specifications showcase a processor capable of handling demanding tasks and delivering advanced gaming experiences.

Engwe, a UK-based e-bike manufacturer, is known for crafting bikes that fit the bill for both weekday commutes and weekend adventures. They’ve outdone themselves with the P275, a model they’re proudly touting as their most premium offering yet.

The bike has a frame-integrated luggage carrier

So, what makes the P275 stand out in a market brimming with options? For starters, it’s the little luxuries that catch your eye. The bike sports a posh Selle Royal saddle and an innovative air-lifting seat post, ensuring your ride is not just smooth, but also easily adjustable to your comfort. The design isn’t just about looks; functionality is key with a frame-integrated luggage carrier – perfect for those daily commutes or a quick grocery run.

E-Bike

The P275 isn’t just a pretty face; it packs a punch in the performance department. Thanks to a powerful motor from Bafang and an integrated torque sensor, the bike offers a personalized pedaling experience, adjusting the assistance with every pedal stroke. With a solid 70 Nm of torque, climbing steep hills feels less daunting, while still aligning with European e-bike regulations. An LED display keeps you informed of your ride stats, adding to the bike’s high-tech appeal.

Google’s New In-App Search Feature Aims to Revolutionize Smartphone Experience

Google is transforming how we interact with our smartphones. In a recent announcement, the tech giant revealed an innovative feature for Android users: the ability to search for content within other applications. This groundbreaking functionality promises to streamline our digital experience, making information more accessible than ever before.

The feature is named “Circle to Search”, and will be available starting Jan 31

Dubbed “Circle to Search,” this feature is set to debut on select premium Android devices, beginning January 31. Imagine watching a video and spotting a dress or gadget you fancy. With Circle to Search, you can simply circle or tap on the item in the video, and Google will provide relevant information right there, without the need to leave the app. This clever integration of Google’s search capabilities into other applications is a game-changer.

Google

The essence of this feature lies in its convenience. It eliminates the hassle of switching between apps to search for information, thereby enriching user engagement and enhancing the overall app experience. Google’s early tests indicate that users tend to return to their original app after using the Circle to Search function, suggesting a seamless integration that doesn’t disrupt the user’s journey.

This feature is initially rolling out on Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 Series, showcasing Google’s commitment to integrating its services with leading smartphone technology. While the availability of this feature on iPhones remains uncertain, Google’s enthusiasm about extending this capability to more users is palpable.

Behind this innovation is Google’s continuous pursuit of growth in its search and YouTube segments. The company reported a significant revenue increase, partly due to its advancements in these areas. However, Google is also navigating through a challenging landscape, especially in Hong Kong, where it faces governmental pressures over content censorship issues.

Huawei P70 series may feature China-made OLED panels from BOE, CSOT, Visionox, Tianma

According to a new Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, advancements in domestic screen technology, particularly the implementation of 8T LTPO technology, have significantly enhanced user experience and acceptance. The successful resolution of eye protection concerns through the adoption of 3Pulse/1Pulse and full high-frequency dimming solutions has made domestic screens more competitive in the market. It appears that the Huawei P70 series may feature OLED display panels from as many as four different China-based display manufacturers.

Four Chinese manufacturers may provide Huawei P70 series display panels

The leaker claimed that an upcoming flagship will be equipped with display panels from local manufacturers, such as BOE, COST, Visionox, and Tianma. As it is known, Huawei is presently prioritizing the advancement of the domestic industrial chain, opting to bolster local development rather than depending on external brands from outside of China.

Hence, it is speculated that the tipster could be talking about the P70 series, which is expected to include at least three models, such as the Huawei P70, the Huawei P70 Pro, and the Huawei P70 Art. These devices are expected to feature the new Kirin 9100 or the existing Kirin 9000s chipset instead of using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8-series chipsets like other brands.

Huawei’s P-series flagship phones are known for delivering top-notch photography experiences, and the same is expected from the P70 lineup. There is a possibility that the P70 and 70 Pro may feature Huawei’s in-house camera sensors or OmniVision cameras. On the other hand, the Huawei P70 Art may come equipped with a one-inch, 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 camera sensor.

The Huawei P70 series leaks suggest it may not launch in Q1 this year. Hence, it is likely that the P70 family may break at some point in the second quarter.

Apple secures patent for Vision Pro headset’s shock absorbing fan system

Apple has recently been granted a patent by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO) for the internal fan system integrated into the Vision Pro headset. This innovative fan system is designed not only to manage airflow within the headset but also to address external impacts, such as accidental drops, providing a protective mechanism for the fan motor system.

Key components of the fan system, including a fan housing, motor hub, and fan blade

The patent details the fan system’s protective features, particularly its ability to mitigate the impact of external events like accidental drops. In scenarios where head-mounted display components have limited space between them and lack flexibility, the patented system introduces a novel approach.

The motor housing, fan hub, and fan blade work together to absorb and disperse the energy generated during an impact event. Figures in the patent illustrate the deformable configuration of the motor hub when subjected to external forces, showcasing the system’s ability to adapt and reduce structural stiffness.

Schematic of Apple’s patent

The fan blade assembly, highlighted in Figure 9 of the patent, reveals a specific design feature aimed at enhancing durability. The fan blade includes a fuse location adjacent to the motor hub, where the cross-section is narrowed or thinned. This strategic design allows the fan blades to deform, twist, squeeze, or separate in response to external forces, contributing to the overall protective function of the fan system.

The significance of this patented protective fan system lies in its potential application in Apple’s Vision Pro headset, a device geared toward delivering an immersive VR experience. As technology companies continue to invest in VR and augmented reality (AR) innovations, Apple’s emphasis on durability and impact resistance sets its hardware apart.

While the patent provides insights into the protective features of the Vision Pro headset’s fan system, it remains to be seen when and how Apple will implement this technology in its future extended reality (XR) offerings.

Seagate unveils the largest hard drive to date, a massive 30TB, and it will be available for everyone

Seagate has made a significant advancement in the data storage industry by introducing the Exos X Mozaic 3+, a 30TB mechanical hard drive. This product is the largest capacity hard drive available to date, primarily aimed at enterprise and data center users.

Seagate Mozaic 3 Plus

Seagate’s Exos X Mozaic 3+ Sets New Standard with 30TB on Ten 3TB Platters

The hard drive’s impressive capacity is achieved through advanced technology. It contains ten 3TB platters, achieving an extraordinary density of 1.742 TB per square inch. Seagate has utilized cutting-edge magnetic field reading sensors, which are the smallest and most sensitive of their kind, to read data on the hard drive’s platters. Additionally, the drive features a 12-nanometer integrated controller, enhancing efficiency by three times compared to older models.

Despite this achievement, in an interview with Tech Radar, Seagate’s Executive Vice President, BS Teh, stated that the company doesn’t plan to increase the number of platters in the future. This decision is to avoid issues with noise, cost, reliability, weight, power consumption, and heat dissipation.

Seagate Mozaic 3 Plus

Seagate is experiencing significant demand for its Mozaic 3+ hard drives from data center clients, who are expected to fully adopt and start using these drives in large quantities by the end of this quarter.

Seagate’s CEO, Dave Mosley, highlighted that Seagate is the only hard drive manufacturer capable of reaching 3 TB per platter, and is planning to introduce platters with a capacity of 5 TB in the future. This technological advancement is especially crucial as the use of AI grows, increasing the need for large amounts of raw data storage.

Mosley also emphasized the importance of areal density in meeting the growing demand for data storage, indicating that Seagate’s innovations are well-aligned with current and future data storage needs.

Seagate’s new Exos 30TB hard drive is expected to be available in Q1 2024. Initially, it will be aimed at hyperscale cloud customers. However, it will eventually be offered to the general public, with a predicted price of around $450.
