Leaked video reveals Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s new flat screen and slim bezel design

Samsung is gearing up for the global launch of its Galaxy S24 series on February 17th, set to be unveiled at the Unpacked event in the United States. A recently leaked video has provided a close look at the front screen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, confirming its flatter and rectangular design, a departure from the previous curved displays.

Curved displays, though visually striking, often pose practical problems. They are prone to accidental touches, and easily shattered, and applying screen protectors is often a frustrating experience. In many cases, durability takes a backseat to aesthetics.

However, Samsung isn’t the only player in this flat-screen revolution. Google’s Pixel series has also embraced the flat design, leaving the curved display trend mainly in the hands of Chinese smartphone makers like Vivo, Oppo, and OnePlus.

On the other end of the spectrum, brands like Xiaomi are taking things even further with quad-curved displays. These displays curve not just on the sides but also on the top and bottom, creating an almost waterfall-like effect.

So, where does the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra fit into all of this? With its flat display and minimal bezels, it appears that Samsung is putting practicality and usability ahead of the aesthetic appeal of curved screens. This could be a welcome change for many users who value functionality over form.

Galaxy S24 Specifications (Rumored)

Now, let’s talk about the expected specs of the upcoming S24 Ultra. It’s rumored to sport a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate and a crisp 3120 x 1440 pixel resolution. Under the hood, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with various clock speeds and storage options ranging from 256GB to a whopping 1TB, paired with 12GB of RAM.

In the camera department, the device is expected to feature a quad-camera setup with a stunning 200 MP wide-angle lens, two telephoto lenses (50 MP and 10 MP), a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 12 MP front camera. Notably, it’s said to support up to 100x digital zoom.

The S24 Ultra is geared up with a robust 5000mAh battery that supports fast charging. It also offers versatile connectivity options, including USB-C, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, and UWB technology. You can expect it to come in various Titanium color options.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will run on the One UI 6.1 software, built on the Android 14 operating system. This software packs in a slew of AI and Generative AI features from Galaxy AI, aiming to enhance the user experience through advanced algorithms and machine learning. Additionally, reports indicate that Samsung is considering extending software update support for the Galaxy S24 series to 7 years.

Apple quietly expands Find My network capacity to 32 devices

Apple has discreetly increased the number of items you can track with its Find My app, quietly doubling the previous limit from 16 to 32 devices. This change was first spotted by Nicolas Alveraz (@nicolas09F9) in an Apple support document.

The updated limit applies to a wider range of devices than before, including AirTags, Apple headphones (including some Beats models), newer MagSafe wallets, and even third-party Find My network accessories like e-bikes.

It’s worth noting that some AirPods models count as multiple items in Find My. Regular AirPods and first-generation AirPods Pro count as two items, while second-generation AirPods Pro count as three due to the ability to track the charging case individually.

This increase in the tracking limit likely addresses concerns from some users who reached the previous 16-item limit quickly, especially with the introduction of AirTags and the expansion of the Find My network to third-party devices.

Apple Find My Network capacity 32 devices

Adding new devices to Find My remains straightforward. For example, adding an AirTag involves bringing it close to your iPhone, tapping the pop-up that appears, choosing a name, and then registering it with your Apple ID.

The updated Find My item limit is currently reflected in Apple’s support documents but hasn’t been formally announced by the company. It’s nonetheless a welcome change for users who rely on the Find My network to keep track of their belongings.

The expanded Find My limit is a welcome change for Apple users who rely on the app to keep track of their belongings. It provides greater flexibility and peace of mind, knowing that more of your important items can be easily located if misplaced.

One critical fix concerns a vulnerability in the “Notification service” on devices running Android 11 through 14. This issue could have allowed an attacker to access your personal information.

Another significant fix tackles a “High” level vulnerability in the Bluetooth pairing process, preventing attackers from pairing their devices to your phone without your consent.

While not explicitly confirmed, the update might also include Samsung’s long-awaited burn-in screen protection measures. The company acknowledged this issue in December and promised a fix in their “next update version.” However, it remains unclear if this particular patch delivers on that promise.

If you haven’t received the update yet, you can manually check for it by navigating to Settings > Software update on your device.

Looking ahead, Samsung is gearing up for the imminent launch of the Galaxy S24 series on January 17. The event promises to unveil the next generation of Samsung’s flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra, expected to showcase significant advancements over their predecessors.

Beyond the new hardware, Samsung is also preparing to showcase “Galaxy AI,” their take on artificial intelligence that combines on-device services with cloud-based support. One of the first features teased is “AI Live Translate Call,” which promises real-time translation of audio and text during phone calls.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Galaxy S24 launch and sharing all the latest details as they unfold. Stay tuned for more!

Betavolt’s Coin Size Nuclear Battery Generates 50-Year Electricity Without Charging or Maintenance

Smartphone, laptop, headphone, smartwatch, tablet, and much more. As you can see, the number of devices we need to charge daily is increasing. It’s an extra worry with our busy lives filled with work, school, and hanging out with friends. Many of us have experienced the frustration of forgetting to charge our phone overnight or finding our headphones out of battery when we need them.

Despite advancements like fast charging technologies and the European Union’s unified charging port, the problem persists. ing port, the issue persists. But don’t worry, the solution comes from the heart of technology, China. A Chinese startup has introduced a new battery claiming to generate electricity for 50 years without the need for charging or maintenance. Here are the details…

Betavolt’s Nuclear Battery Reshapes Charging Forever

In today’s tech driven world, with everything from cars to airplanes starting to relying on electricity, there’s a surge in studies on battery technologies. However, besides the charging speeds, there hasn’t been a consumer facing outcome yet, at least until now. Betavolt, based in Beijing, has introduced a new battery that claims to generate electricity for 50 years without needing charging or maintenance. And don’t imagine a massive battery when you hear “nuclear”. Betavolt manages to squeeze 63 isotopes into a battery smaller than a coin.

nuclear battery

Betavolt’s nuclear battery currently generates 100 microwatts at 3 volts, all packed into a small 15x15x5 cubic millimeters. However, the goal is to reach a 1-watt power output by 2025. This technology taps into the energy from decaying isotopes, a concept developed in the 20th. Used in spacecraft, underwater systems, and remote scientific stations, earlier thermonuclear batteries faced challenges related to cost and size.

The company states that the nuclear battery is currently in the testing phase, with Betavolt planning to initiate mass production soon. The idea of having an iPhone that never runs out of charge sounds incredible, doesn’t it? However, it’s wise to approach this groundbreaking invention cautiously for now, considering the potential risks of carrying a nuclear battery in your pocket. As a result, mass production might still be a distant dream for the time being.

DJI MIC 2 Microphone Images Surface Online, Features 32-bit Floating-Point Internal Recording

The upcoming launch of DJI‘s second-generation wireless microphone, DJI MIC 2, is stirring excitement in the tech world. This new version, slated for release on January 17, promises to be a significant upgrade from its predecessor. Here’s a look at what makes the DJI MIC 2 stand out.

The microphone features intelligent noise reduction as well.

One of the most notable improvements is the addition of intelligent noise reduction. This feature is a game-changer for anyone who records in noisy environments. It means clearer audio with less background interference, a crucial aspect for content creators and professionals. The DJI MIC 2 also steps up its game with 32-bit floating-point internal recording. This technical advancement allows for a wider dynamic range, ensuring that the microphone captures sound more accurately and with greater detail. This is especially beneficial when recording in various environments, from quiet studios to bustling streets.

Battery life is another area where the DJI MIC 2 shines. The new model offers an impressive 18-hour battery life, up from 15 hours, when used with its charging box. This longer battery life is essential for those long shooting days, ensuring you won’t be left without audio at a critical moment. The touchscreen on the device has been enlarged from 0.95 inches to 1.1 inches. This increase may seem small, but it makes a big difference in usability, allowing for easier control and navigation.

Additionally, the battery capacity of both the transmitter and receiver has been increased from 320 mAh to 360 mAh. This enhancement means that the devices can operate longer between charges, adding to the overall convenience. The DJI MIC 2 now includes a wheel control, offering more precise adjustments and control over the device. This feature adds to the user-friendly nature of the microphone.

Aesthetically, the microphone now comes in a sleek Pearl White color, adding a touch of style to the device. Previously, DJI MIC 2 was released as an accessory for the Osmo Pocket 3 pocket gimbal camera. This camera itself is a powerhouse, equipped with accessories like a beauty diffuser, a mini tripod, and a magnetic ND filter set, to name a few.

North Korea Steps into 4G, Relying on Second-Hand Huawei Gear

North Korea has recently begun the process of upgrading its mobile network to 4G by using secondhand equipment primarily sourced from Huawei, according to a report by local news site Daily NK

The upgrade initiative is said to have begun in October which involves overhauling the existing 3G network infrastructure and setting the foundation for 4G services.

Major cities like Pyongyang, Nampo, Pyongsong, Sariwon, Wonsan, and Hamhung have seen the first wave of this upgrade. The improvements include the installation of 4G repeaters, remote monitors, and amplifiers for radio transmission and reception, as well as updated signal processing controls at base transceiver stations.

Daily NK also reports that the construction of 4G cell towers is already underway in several regions. The goal is to complete over 80% of the planned cell towers by 2025. Currently, 4G services are said to be mainly available in the central districts of Pyongyang.

An unnamed source told Daily NK “People who have subscribed to the new network say the signal is really good, with no interruptions when browsing the intranet or watching shows.”

However, the source added that there are limitations as the signal weakens significantly when users are far from the base stations. This reportedly has led to some reluctance among North Koreans to switch to 4G, as mobile devices in the country do not automatically revert to 3G in areas with poor 4G reception.

Out of North Korea’s population of 26.2 million, only about 28.3% have a phone connection. The country’s approach to cellular technology has historically lagged behind the global trend, often adopting older generations of technology.

They entered the 2G era in 2002, long after the global 3G wave, and followed a similar pattern with 3G. Industry observers suspect 4G and 5G will follow the same suit.
