AI-powered PCs to dominate China’s market in 2024

The AI PC Industry White Paper, released by IDC China, forecasts a significant shift in the Chinese PC market towards AI PCs – computers enhanced with artificial intelligence capabilities. AI PCs are expected to dominate the market, with their assembly ratio reaching 81% by 2027. This trend is set to begin in 2024, with over half of new PCs in China, the largest PC market globally, being AI PCs.

AI PC

The Rise of AI PCs

Lenovo, a leader in the global PC market, introduced the concept of AI PCs and also announced the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024 recently. They plan to launch these PCs in September 2024. AI PCs are designed to understand users better, creating personalized knowledge databases and facilitating natural AI interactions. Other major manufacturers like HP and Acer are also gearing up to release AI PC solutions between 2024 and 2025.

Intel, a leading chip manufacturer, has announced the first AI PC acceleration program, aiming to integrate AI performance into over 100 million PC devices by 2025. Additionally, Intel, Lenovo Group, and iQiyi have agreed to collaborate in the AI PC sector.

AI PCs are characterized by their ability to run AI applications, such as ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion, locally. This offers a more personalized user experience while ensuring data privacy. The definition of AI PCs includes two stages: AI Ready, for PCs equipped with AI chips and capabilities, and AI On, indicating fully operational AI models in PCs. Currently, most AI PCs are in the AI Ready stage. These new PCs are expected to revitalize the personal computer industry, with IDC predicting that AI will be a standard feature in PCs by 2024.

This development is significant for the Chinese market, given Lenovo’s dominant position in PC sales in the country. The shift towards AI PCs is also reshaping the competitive landscape among tech giants like AMD, Intel, HP, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, who have all announced AI PC and chipset plans.

Meta’s new AI Image Generator Trained on Your 1.1 Billion Social Media Photos

While artificial intelligence technologies only became a part of our lives last year, they’re everywhere. Almost every service and product we use has some form of AI. Meta, one of the AI crazy companies in question, recently introduced a free image generator website called “Imagine with Meta AI.” While this artificial intelligence is currently limited to a few users, it’s getting a lot of attention and praise for what it can do. However, recently uncovered information about the product has surprised us all. Here are the details…

Imagine with Meta AI” was trained on 1.1 billion Instagram and Facebook photos

Meta, the company overseeing the world’s largest social media networks like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, has access to all our information. The company frequently makes news for handling and profiting from this data. However, the most recent revelation managed to astonish even the Gizmochina team, which has covered every scandal involving the social media giant for years. According to reports, the “Imagine with Meta AI” technology was created using users’ Instagram and Facebook photos.

Meta AI

The company used 1.1 billion photos from Instagram and Facebook to train its new artificial intelligence model. In response to concerns, Meta defended its actions by clarifying that they exclusively used images from public posts, asserting that user privacy was not compromised. It’s important to note that using publicly available photos doesn’t breach privacy standards. Nevertheless, some have interpreted this action by the company as a potential violation of personal data protection.

However, to reassure you, I must say that 1.1 billion photos are not as many as you might think. For instance, Instagram alone sees the daily upload of 95 million photos and videos. Therefore, the likelihood of your photos and videos being used is quite low, even if there is a possibility.”Imagine with Meta AI”, which is currently only available to users in the USA, is expected to be used in other countries in the near future.

A Crossover between Rainbow Six Siege and Dead by Daylight is Here!

The recent crossover between “Dead by Daylight” and Ubisoft’s “Rainbow Six Siege” has taken Ubisoft Fans by surprise. It stands as an example to future gaming collaborations. This unique partnership brings a surprising twist to the gaming community, showcasing how diverse game worlds can coalesce, offering players a refreshing experience.

It’s always fun to see two different game genres come together

“Dead by Daylight,” known for its heart-pounding asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror format, has been a playground for various characters from different realms since its 2016 release. This game, where four survivors aim to elude a relentless killer, has continuously expanded its universe by incorporating characters from across the horror genre and beyond. The list includes icons from “Silent Hill,” “Resident Evil,” and even the eerie realms of “The Ring” and “Stranger Things.”

Dead by Daylight

The latest crossover introduces “Rainbow Six Siege” into this mix, a move that might initially seem offbeat given its tactical shooter roots. However, this melding signifies a broader trend in gaming: the breaking down of genre barriers to create novel experiences. The crossover does not introduce new characters but cleverly integrates “Rainbow Six Siege” operators as alternate skins for existing “Dead by Daylight” characters. These include the Waimi’s Suit for Adam Francis and the Blitz Uniform for Felix Richter, adding a rugged, battle-worn aesthetic to the game’s atmosphere.

This collaboration highlights the creative potential in the gaming industry, where the unexpected can lead to intriguing outcomes. It’s a reminder that the essence of gaming lies in its ability to adapt, transform, and surprise. While “Dead by Daylight” has previously ventured into various non-horror crossovers, such as the “Attack on Titan” series, the inclusion of “Rainbow Six Siege” characters opens a realm of possibilities. Could we see more characters from different genres, like Lara Croft or John Marston, make their way into this horror universe?

The crossover between “Dead by Daylight” and “Rainbow Six Siege” is more than just a novelty for the fans; it’s a reflection of the gaming world’s boundless creativity and its relentless pursuit of diverse, immersive experiences. As these worlds collide, they bring forth a unique blend of excitement and unpredictability, enriching the gaming landscape with endless possibilities.

New Nationwide EV Charging Network Launched by Pilot Travel Centers, GM, and EVgo

The recent collaboration between Pilot Travel Centers, General Motors (GM), and EVgo has ushered in a new era for electric vehicle (EV) charging, blending convenience and accessibility in a network that promises to change the landscape of EV travel in the United States.

The ultimate vision is to build 500 EV Charging stations with over 2000 charging stalls

Spanning across 13 states, the first 17 locations of this ambitious project are situated at existing Pilot and Flying J travel centers. These stations are more than just charging points; they are comprehensive service areas designed to cater to the needs of the modern EV driver. The stations feature high-power chargers, capable of up to 350-kW charging, and are equipped with CCS1 connectors, catering to a broad range of EVs.

Charging Stations

What sets these stations apart is their design, mindful of the unique needs of EV drivers. They offer pull-through charging stalls, accommodating vehicles of all sizes, including those towing trailers. Moreover, the stations are covered with canopies and provide 24/7 access to essential amenities like restrooms, food and beverage options, and free Wi-Fi, all monitored by onsite staff.

The expansion plan is aggressive and promising, with a target of 25 locations by the end of the year, expanding to around 200 by the end of 2024. Ultimately, the vision is a vast network of 500 locations with 2,000 charging stalls. This development is a clear indication of the growing demand and acceptance of EVs, and the need for more robust, reliable charging infrastructure.

An aspect worth noting is the community’s response. The EV community has shown enthusiasm for the layout and amenities of these stations, indicating a shift in expectations for charging experiences. This project is not just about providing power; it’s about enhancing the journey of the EV driver, making long-distance travel more feasible and enjoyable.

Looking ahead to spring 2024, GM and Pilot Travel Centers plan to introduce exclusive benefits for GM drivers, including charger reservations and charging discounts. This partnership marks a significant step towards addressing range anxiety and encouraging more people to embrace EVs, signaling a pivotal shift in the automotive and energy industries. By creating a network that parallels traditional fuel stations in convenience and accessibility, Pilot Travel Centers, GM, and EVgo are not just supporting the current generation of EV drivers but are paving the way for a future where electric travel is the norm.

Juiced Bikes’ Scrambler X2 E-Bike Features a Triple-Tree Front Suspension Fork

Juiced Bikes, hailing from San Diego, has once again made a splash in the e-bike market with its latest launch, the Scrambler X2. This new e-bike is not just a mode of transportation; it’s a statement in style and power, all wrapped up in an affordable package.

The bike’s design is reminiscent of a classic motorbike

At first glance, the Scrambler X2 is a head-turner. Its design borrows heavily from classic motorcycles, featuring a distinctive round LED headlight and a bench-style seat. This design choice not only gives it a retro look but also adds practicality with ample space for comfortable riding. The minimalist, exposed frame, complemented by race-inspired side covers, further accentuates its unique style.

E-Bike

But the Scrambler X2 isn’t just about looks. It packs a punch with a 1,000-watt motor nestled in the rear hub. This power allows it to reach speeds of up to 28 mph, offering an exhilarating ride akin to a mini-motorbike. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, there’s a thumb throttle capped at 20 mph. The bike’s battery is a robust 52-volt, 15.6-ampere-hour unit, providing an impressive range of around 55 miles, though high-speed rides will reduce this.

Off-road capabilities are another highlight. With a triple-tree front suspension fork, chunky all-terrain tires, and hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, the Scrambler X2 is ready for adventure beyond the city streets. The addition of an LCD instrument panel for ride stats and a USB charging port for devices on the go underscores its practicality.

Juiced Bikes’ CEO, Tora Harris, remarks that the Scrambler X2 aims to disrupt the e-bike market by blending the excitement of e-biking with the practicality of daily commuting. It’s a daring take on e-mobility, offering power, style, and safety for a wide range of riders.

Priced at an introductory $1,499 USD, significantly lower than its retail price of $1,899 USD, the Scrambler X2 is an attractive option for those seeking a high-performance, stylish e-bike without breaking the bank. It’s a clear signal that Juiced Bikes continues to push the boundaries of what an e-bike can be, blending the thrill of cycling with the ease of electric mobility.

iPhone 16 Series Will Reportedly Be Equipped With Upgraded Microphone To Integrate AI Features

Previously, it was reported that Apple is banking on iOS 18-loaded software and AI features for the next-generation iPhone 16 series. Now, the latest information from notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also strengthens the previous report. Next year’s iPhone 16 lineup is said to pack a significantly upgraded microphone. The Cupertino-based tech giant is lagging behind in the generative AI space and aims to compete against Google and OpenAI.

iPhone 16 to have upgraded microphone

iPhone-16-render

Kuo in a Medium post says that strengthening Siri’s hardware and software features and specifications will be the key to promoting AI-generated content. This means that all models in the next-generation iPhone 16 lineup will be equipped with upgraded microphones for better voice and speech integration for triggering Siri and other AI functions. The major upgrade to the microphone will offer a better signal-to-noise ratio for a significantly improved Siri experience. It is also said to have better water resistance.

The report indicates that Apple’s generative AI ambitions and large-language models will heavily rely on voice input processing. The company also aims to integrate more AI features into Siri. Kuo reveals that Apple reorganized its Siri team in Q3 2023 to integrate generative AI and LLMs.

The upgraded microphones on the iPhone 16 series are said to be a costly affair for Apple. The ASP of the iPhone 16’s microphones is expected to be 100 – 150 percent higher than the iPhone 15. Apple’s suppliers AAC and Goertek will benefit from the specification upgrade.

Original iPhone SE and Second-Gen iPad Pro 12.9 Now Labelled Vintage

Apple has just added two of its devices to its vintage and obsolete product list. It is the original iPhone SE that debuted way back in 2016 and the second-generation iPad Pro 12.9. Apple considers devices vintage if they are off the market for five years but less than seven. The original SE was sold until 2018. In October, the Apple Watch Series 1 was classified as vintage.

Original iPhone SE and iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Gen classified as vintage

Apple’s vintage and obsolete labels are quite different. The iPhone SE and iPad Pro 12.9 having entered the vintage category indicate that they are not obsolete yet but may no longer be eligible for official support. Repairs of the devices will be subject to the availability of spare parts. Once the phone and tablet hit the seven-year mark, they will be labeled obsolete and will lose their ability to be serviced.

The iPhone SE was a budget iPhone with a compact form factor and a dual-tone design like the iPhone 5s that left a lasting legacy. It had a 4-inch display, A9 SoC, 2GB RAM, and a 1,624mAh battery unit. After the departure of the original model, Apple now has two generations of the iPhone SE. The third-generation launched last year and the next iPhone SE is rumoured to arrive in 2025.

Meanwhile, the second-generation iPad Pro 12.9 was pulled off from the market in 2018.
