Microsoft finally lets you uninstall Edge, Bing, and Cortana, but there’s a catch

Microsoft is bringing a new update for Windows users in Europe. The company is finally allowing its users to uninstall some of its basic apps like Edge (browser), Bing (search), and Cortana (voice assistant). So here’s everything you need to know.

Microsoft Edge, Bing, and Cortana can finally be removed

The American tech giant isn’t rolling out this change for an improved user experience and choice freedom, rather, it is bringing the update to comply with the DMA (Digital Markets Act). For those unaware, the DMA was announced by the European Union, which is enforcing Microsoft to make all of its basic apps removable. It is worth noting that the act will come into effect from March 2024 in the European Economic Area (EEA).

This includes all EU nations along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. In an official blog post, Microsoft announced that the change is exclusive to Europe. This means that the new change isn’t global. So now, you can uninstall the Edge web browser and change the Bing web search. This is something that many Windows users have been requesting for a long time now.

Microsoft is constantly pushing Edge and Bing to convince you to switch over to its own platforms. Apart from this, the company will also let users uninstall Cortana, Camera, and Photos from the Windows experience. In related news, the company patented the multi-device virtual web browser to improve users’ internet accessibility just last month.

After Huawei’s Mate 60 series, the Nova 12 series may get 5G capable Kirin chips

Huawei’s upcoming Nova 12 series devices may support 5G connectivity with the company’s in-house Kirin SoC. The Nova 12 is expected to be powered by a Kirin 8 series chip, whereas the Nova 12 Pro is expected to get a Kirin 9 series chip. Although specific details aren’t confirmed yet.

Despite the technological limitations, Huawei continues to make devices that stand out from the rest

According to credible sources in the digital community, the Nova 12 is expected to get some exclusive features that aren’t available even on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered flagships. It may be due to some Kirin-exclusive capabilities, as we see on Google Tensor chips. One of the exclusive features might be satellite connectivity.

Other than the SoC, the Nova 12 series is expected to boast a 60 megapixel wide-angle selfie camera with a triple rear camera setup on the back. It includes a 50 megapixel main, a 12 megapixel ultrawide that supports macro, and a 50 megapixel telephoto. The device is backed by a 4800mAh battery and 66W fast charging.

Aside from the more premium Kirin 9 series chip, the Nova 12 Pro also gets a slightly bigger 4900mAh battery and a faster 88W charging support.

The Nova 12 series might release as early as December this year. Nonetheless, it’s also important to note that the supply of Huawei’s Kirin chips is currently below the demand. So, the availability of the devices might also be insufficient.

However, the company is working hard to surpass the technological limitations they have and is continuing to contribute to the development of newer technologies and making great devices. An example of this might be the addition of foldable technologies in the mid-range segment. In addition, as DCS expects, the company’s flagship devices may get a significant camera hardware upgrade.

Samsung trademarks the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 monikers

Samsung has basically confirmed the next two generations of its flip phones. The company announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldable smartphones earlier this year. But now, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 monikers have been confirmed.

Samsung registers the Galaxy Z Flip 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 7 moniker

The South Korean tech giant has already trademarked the names Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. These monikers were confirmed via documentation that was recently published in South Korea and on the WIPO website. Based on the brand’s launch cycle, we can expect the Galaxy Z Flip 6 could be launched in the summer of 2024. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 would be next in line as Samsung’s new clamshell folding flip phone.

Unfortunately, Samsung Electronics has only trademarked the names of future devices so finer details about the next generation of Z Flip series devices are still unclear. This means that there are no details regarding their specification or design. But since these are premium grade foldable handsets, we can expect them to feature top notch specs and features. Back in August, we covered a report regarding the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Reportedly, the company is planning on bringing major camera improvements to its upcoming foldable phone models.

Xiaomi is apparently gearing up to launch a new POCO smartphone model in India soon. The device in question was spotted on an Indian certification platform and is expected to be a part of the upcoming POCO X6 series, dubbed the X6 Neo.

POCO X6 Neo visits BIS

The POCO X6 Neo model surfaced on the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification platform. Looking at the online listing, the smartphone carries the model number “2312FRAFDI”. This appears to be quite similar to the model number of the Redmi Note 13R Pro (2311FRAFDC), which means that the POCO X6 Neo could be a rebranded version of this device.

POCO X6 Neo

Previously, the X6 Neo and the Redmi Note 13 5G were spotted on MIUI code and now the former has surfaced on BIS. In other words, the smartphone will likely launch in the Indian market soon. In our earlier report, we also talked about how both the POCO X6 Neo and the Redmi Note 13R Pro will be arriving in the Indian market. The Redmi Note 13R Pro was just announced in the company’s home market of China, which offers us a glipse of some of its key specs.

The Note 13R Pro sports a tall 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED display on the front, while the rear packs a 108-megapixel dual camera setup. Under the hood, the smartphone is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC that is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers this device, which supports 33W fast charging. The device runs on Android 13 OS out of the box, features a side mounted fingerprint scanner, and more. So the X6 Neo may also feature similar specs.
