Apple could replace Google with its own search engine: Report

Among many search engines out there, Google remains the top choice, and it is also the one used most widely. Billions of devices have Google Search as their default search engine, including those manufactured by Apple. But Apple isn’t a fan of using third-party technologies on its products. In fact, the Cupertino company has reportedly been hard at work developing its own search engine that could replace Google as the preferred option on its devices.

Apple already uses its search tech in some apps

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports Apple has been “tinkering with search technology for years.” The report suggests the iPhone maker still has a long way to go, but if its internal search technology ever gets into tiptop shape, Apple users will enjoy a more integrated and private solution compared with Google.

Apple is already testing smaller use cases of its search technology in some of its apps, says the report. Apple’s search efforts can be clearly seen in Spotlight, which helps users find things across their devices.

“A couple of iOS and macOS versions ago, Apple started adding web search results to this tool, pointing users directly to sites that might answer their questions. At different points in time, those results were powered by either Microsoft Corp.’s Bing or Alphabet Inc.’s Google. Siri also uses that technology to offer up web results,” reads the Bloomberg report.

Source: Mark Gurman/Bloomberg

Apple’s interest in search technology is also evident by its rumored meetings with Microsoft for the purchase of the Bing search engine. Although the Cupertino company didn’t go ahead with the purchase, the exploratory talks affirmed its interest.

If Apple actually replaces Google in its products, the latter will see a significant loss in its revenue. After all, there are billions of Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks that use the Mountain View company’s search technologies. Interstingly, Bloomberg says Apple gets a cut of Google’s search ad revenue, a commission that has brought in roughly $8 billion annually in recent years.

The Mystery Chip that Revived Huawei: Here is the 5G Smartphone that Defied U.S. Sanctions

Despite facing extensive trade sanctions, Huawei Technologies has stunned the market by rolling out its new Mate 60 Pro 5G smartphone series. Only a few months ago, Huawei’s deputy chairman Eric Xu Zhijun dismissed the idea of a new 5G release, citing the need for U.S. Department of Commerce approval for 5G chips. However, the company surprised many with a pre-sale campaign for the Mate 60 Pro and Mate 60 Pro+ in late August, quietly reigniting its presence in the 5G smartphone market.

The chips appear to be fabricated through restriction-friendly techniques

The new 5G handsets come with a central processing unit (CPU) shrouded in secrecy, believed to be the Kirin 9000s. Both Huawei and the mainland chipmaker SMIC have been tight-lipped about the system-on-a-chip (SoC) used. This secrecy has fueled speculation and debate on how Huawei managed to produce these chips, especially under stringent U.S. sanctions. The chips are suspected to have been fabricated through techniques that bypass the restrictions, a theory that if confirmed, could prove a violation of U.S. sanctions.

Huawei-logo

While the launch of Huawei’s new phones stirred nationalist pride on Chinese social media platforms, it also ignited a discourse on the limitations of trade sanctions in curbing technological growth. The smartphones’ success challenges the efficacy of U.S. trade sanctions, as analysts indicate that Huawei has already exceeded its shipment targets. Many wonder how this resurgence will affect competitors like Apple and other Android flagship models, putting additional pressure on the smartphone industry in a bit of a slump.

Huawei’s rebound isn’t merely a win for the company; it poses questions about the effectiveness of trade sanctions as a tool for technological containment. If a company under such restrictions can innovate its way around them, it provokes a reconsideration of how trade policies are enacted and enforced. Meanwhile, Huawei’s ability to sustain this momentum hinges on a stable supply of key components and overcoming U.S.-imposed limitations on its supply chain.

Tesla & MG Electric Vehicles are Outselling All Other BEV Brands in Europe

As Europe’s appetite for electric cars grows, Tesla and MG are racing ahead, leaving traditional auto manufacturers struggling to catch up. New data from JATO Dynamics reveals that electric vehicles accounted for 22% of new car registrations in Europe in April. This figure trails only behind the 25% mark set in December 2022, indicating an increasing consumer shift towards electric vehicles (EVs).

The Tesla Model Y has sold over 190,000 units so far in Europe alone

Tesla is at the forefront of this seismic change. In August 2023 alone, the company registered 33,809 cars in Europe—a staggering 240% increase from the same month last year. Most notably, this sales figure edges out well-known European car makers like Opel and Citroën and closes in on Ford. Tesla’s success in Europe primarily rides on two models: the Model Y and Model 3. Particularly, the Model Y has reported sales of over 169,000 units and is projected to continue leading the European market through the year.

Tesla Model 2

But Tesla isn’t the only game-changer. Enter MG, a brand originally British but now Chinese-owned, which is gaining ground fast. In August, MG made it to the European top 20 by selling nearly 14,900 units, with electric models accounting for a significant 59% of those sales. This sales volume puts MG ahead of well-established brands like Audi, Skoda, and Peugeot in the electric vehicle space.

While Tesla and MG ascend, traditional brands are feeling the squeeze. Established names like Volkswagen, Ford, and Hyundai are witnessing erosion in their market share. Tesla’s strategy of lowering prices is attracting a broader customer base, and MG is competing effectively with its budget-friendly EVs. As a result, traditional automakers find themselves wedged between Tesla’s aggressive pricing and MG’s value offerings.

Li Auto Leads the Charge in China’s Rapidly Growing EV Market, Leaving Tesla Behind

China’s electric vehicle (EV) market is stronger than ever, and homegrown company Li Auto is taking the lead. Not just keeping pace with, but also frequently being compared to U.S. giant Tesla, Li Auto has hit yet another milestone. The Beijing-based EV maker announced a record-breaking 36,060 vehicle deliveries for September. That’s a 3.3% rise from the previous month and a staggering 212.7% increase year on year.

Li Auto Shipped over 100,000 vehicles in the third quarter of 2023

While Tesla initiated a price war that ended in May, its ripples are still affecting the market. Chinese consumers, who had been holding off for discounts, are now setting their sights on local heroes like Li Auto and BYD. Li Auto, in particular, has been successful in capturing this pent-up demand, shipping 105,108 vehicles in just the third quarter, a 296.3% jump from last year’s figures.

Li Auto Electric

It’s not just the numbers that tell the story; it’s also about innovation and infrastructure. Li Auto rolled out an over-the-air software update last month, giving their Li L series an edge in user experience. What’s more, the firm has successfully set up more than 100 supercharging stations nationwide, simplifying the lives of EV owners.

But it’s not all smooth sailing for everyone in the Chinese EV market. While other major players like Xpeng and Nio are also posting strong numbers, they haven’t managed to keep the momentum going at the same rate as Li Auto. Nio saw a 19% drop from August in its September deliveries, while Xpeng’s new SUV model, the G6, experienced a 41% sales drop last month.

CEO Xiang Li credits the success to “numerous historic breakthroughs” in response to “ever-increasing market demand.” As the Chinese government pushes for more sustainable modes of transportation, Li Auto seems perfectly positioned to take the lead, offering customers both innovation and reliability. Expect to see more from Li Auto as it seeks to solidify its standing as a powerhouse in China’s rapidly evolving EV landscape.

Zeekr Eyes New Markets: Chinese EV Makers Go Global

The electric vehicle market continues to grow. Every day, more and more people are choosing these environmentally friendly cars. Furthermore, the significantly lower “fuel” costs compared to traditional vehicles and the decreasing sales prices due to advancing technology greatly increase the demand for EV technology. Naturally, this trend also supports the growth and expansion of electric vehicle manufacturers into different markets. Lastly, it has been announced that Zeekr, one of these manufacturers, is expanding into the Middle East. Here are the details…

Zeekr Aims to Rank Among Top Three Premium EV Brands in Europe by 2030

China is one of the world’s largest electric vehicle markets. Due to factors like its vast population and the number of local manufacturers, the Asian country is leading the way globally in this sector. Naturally, this situation impacts the sales of local manufacturers, while also paving the way for new ventures. Many companies, like BYD, want to expand their domestic success to other countries. One such company is Zeekr.

zeekr

If there are those among you who are unaware, Zeekr is a premium electric vehicle brand established in 2021 by the Chinese EV manufacturer, Geely. Zeekr’s inaugural model, the Zeekr 001, was introduced in April 2021. This high-performance electric SUV boasts a range of up to 712 kilometers. The Zeekr 001 has garnered commendations for its design, performance, and technological features. Now, Zeekr is making its way to the Middle East.

Zeekr has partnered with Israeli distributor Union Group to set up a sales network in Israel. The company will offer its 001 sedan and X SUV in Israel. The 001 has a starting price of €59,490 ($65,230) in Europe, and Zeekr sees it vying against Tesla’s Model Y. The X starts at €44,990 and is marketed in a similar category as Mercedes-Benz’s EQA.

The Middle East is a growing market for electric vehicles, as governments in the region are investing in charging infrastructure and other incentives to promote the adoption of EVs. Oil-rich countries in the Middle East are also looking to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and diversify their economies.

Zeekr is also targeting other markets in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The company has said that it aims to be among the top three premium EV marques in Europe by the end of the decade.

Google Play Store 37.7.22 Apk now rolling out to Android devices

Google has given us a new update for the Google Play Store! The latest version is 37.7.22, and it’s rolling out to Android devices. As usual, Google didn’t provide any changelogs for this update.

Download Play Store Apk

This update will work on Android devices that are running Android 5.0 or newer. It will download by itself, but you can also download it manually if you want to. The size of the download might be different depending on what device you have. We have a detailed guide available for manual installation of the Google Play Store if you need assistance.

Google is working on some new features! We don’t know much about these features yet but there’s a feature called “Cubes” that will help you find new content in different categories and “Download Buddy” to make downloading apps better by showing a moveable arrow on the screen to track progress. They’re also adding filters so you can see what apps will work on your device and reminders to open apps you haven’t used in a while.

Google has also recently rolled out an update that will let you archive apps, which means you can save up to 60% of your storage space without losing any data! If an app is archived, you’ll see a cloud icon, and you can manage these apps in the Play Store settings. For better privacy and battery life, apps that you haven’t used in a while will lose their permissions automatically.

Google Play is also introducing “The Play Report” to help users find new apps and games through a series of videos that will be shown on the Play Store homepage.

Google has also gone through some legal issues regarding the Play Store and search engine recently and it is currently settling a lawsuit about its dominant position in the market, supposedly leading to fewer choices and higher app prices for consumers. The settlement details are confidential and are waiting for approval.

WhatsApp often tests different features in its beta version, and not all of them end up in the stable release. Some features get integrated into the stable release, while others may be discarded or remain exclusive to the beta version.

How the New Feature Improves Conversational Flow

In the latest WhatsApp beta version (2.23.20.20) available through the Google Play Beta Program, they’ve introduced a new feature called the “reply bar.” As per WABetaInfo, this feature enables users to quickly respond to images, videos, and GIFs without leaving the current screen, improving the flow and context of conversations. It aims to minimize interruptions and enhance the overall user interaction experience.

To access this feature, simply install the latest WhatsApp beta update from the Google Play Store, and it is expected to have a broader release soon.

Additionally, WhatsApp has been working on refining the user experience with a series of updates, including shortcuts to easily add participants to group calls and the introduction of the “Flows” feature to improve in-app shopping experiences. Excitingly, there’s also a native WhatsApp app in development for iPad, addressing a long-standing demand from users.

Epic Games in Trouble: Layoffs, Divestitures Signal Financial Woes

Epic Games announced plans to lay off 16% of its workforce, affecting approximately 870 employees. The company also revealed its intentions to sell off Bandcamp, an online music distribution platform it had acquired last year, and divest a significant portion of SuperAwesome, a firm specializing in safe technology for children.

Epic Games

Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, in a note to employees, mentioned that the company had overspent its earnings and had no other choice but to take this step to continue its growth. Sweeney stated that while efforts were made to reduce company costs, layoffs became inevitable to maintain financial sustainability.

In A Major Relief To Owners, Apple Acknowledges Overheating Issues On iPhone 15 Pro Models, Software Update Coming Soon

Apple seems to be expediting the process of solving issues that have been plaguing iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants since they went on sale. Owners all over the world have been reporting overheating and discoloration problems in their units. The Cupertino-based tech giant recently acknowledged the discoloration issue on this year’s Pro models. Now, in an interview with Forbes that is a major relief to users, Apple has revealed that a fix is incoming for the iPhone 15 Pro’s overheating problems.

iPhone 15 Pro models getting a software update to fix overheating

Apple iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are powered by Apple’s A17 Pro processor. It is a powerful chipset that comprises six-core CPU and a six-core GPU. The processor is also capable of running console-level games like Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and more.

The Cupertino-based tech giant added that it has identified a few things that cause the iPhone 15 Pro to become warmer than expected. It may run like that for the first few days after setting up or restoring because of the intense background activity. In simple words, the new device works overtime and over temperature to redownload all the data from the previous phone as fast as possible.

That’s not all. Apple also added that it has spotted a bug in the iOS 17 that is impacting users and will be fixed via a software update. Additionally, any updates to third-party apps is also causing the system to overload.

Apple’s acknowledgment of overheating issues squashes any assumptions of any fault in the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. Users won’t have to face this for a long period. Apple also reassured that iPhones and iPad’s long-term performance won’t be affected as they have built-in protections to prevent overheating.

If the temperature inside increases beyond the normal range, it protects its components by regulating the temperature.
