Apple to Swap “Pro Max” with “Ultra for the iPhone 16, Leak Suggests

Just a hot minute after the release of the iPhone 15, buzz about Apple’s next marvel, the iPhone 16, is already making waves. Fresh off the press, reports suggest a significant name change—Apple is expected to call its top-tier model “Ultra,” not the usual “Pro Max.”

The camera modules of the iPhone 16 may be compatible with the Vision Pro Headset

The name change isn’t just for show. Sources like Apple Product Blog Reporter Majin Bu suggest that the iPhone 16 Ultra will introduce three new compact camera modules. What makes this particularly interesting is the fact that these modules are said to be compatible with the Vision Pro headset, possibly taking augmented reality experiences to a whole new level.

iPhone 16 micro lens array MLA OLED Display

Battery life getting you down? Worry no more. The standard iPhone 16 will probably aim to offer a 120 Hz refresh rate and a nifty feature to switch to “millimeter wave mode” to conserve battery. Sounds like Apple is thinking ahead to keep us unplugged for longer.

Another attention-grabber is the alleged “View Button” on the iPhone 16 Pro. Not only is this similar to Microsoft‘s Glance Bar used in the Surface Duo 2, but it’s also a physical button, not a digital one. Could this be a nostalgic nod to physical buttons or a functional tweak for an enhanced user experience?

Adding meat to the bones, earlier leaks propose that the iPhone 16 series will make use of virtual solid-state buttons—bringing both aesthetics and functionality to the table. The Pro version is anticipated to feature a 6.3-inch screen and impressive camera upgrades, including a 48Mp main camera and 5X polyprism Telephoto. That would be an exciting addition to the future iPhone. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.

TSMC’s 2nm Chip Production might be Delayed until 2026

TSMC, the powerhouse behind Apple’s 3nm A17 Pro chips, is reportedly facing a hurdle in its next step toward chip miniaturization. A recent report suggests that the chip foundry’s highly anticipated 2nm chips might be delayed until 2026, despite initial promises of a 2025 launch.

Samsung also plans to launch its 2nm chips in 2025

The move to 2nm is crucial for TSMC as it plans to transition from FinFET transistors to Gate-all-around (GAA) technology, aiming for lower energy consumption and better performance. This innovation will make TSMC competitive against Samsung Foundry, which already uses GAA in its 3nm node.

TSMC

However, the delay could give its rivals a head start. Intel, which plans to introduce its Power Via technology next year, could potentially take process leadership by 2025 with its 18A node (1.8nm). Meanwhile, Samsung Foundry is on track to launch its 2nm chips in 2025 and even has plans to begin 1.4nm production in 2027.

One of the reasons for TSMC’s delay is said to be the slowdown in the semiconductor market, affecting the construction timeline of a vital facility in Hsinchu Baosha, Taiwan. TSMC has denied the accuracy of these reports, likely feeling the pressure as competitors ramp up their plans.

While TSMC had a smooth ride with the introduction of 3nm chips, mainly thanks to a sweetheart deal with Apple, this delay could potentially change the dynamics of the chip market. TSMC needs to catch up, and fast, to stay in the race with Samsung and Intel, who are not showing signs of slowing down. This delay may mold the chip industry a bit, redistributing the power balance among TSMC, Intel, and Samsung. As for consumers, any delays in TSMC’s 2nm chip production could influence the specs of future tech gadgets, from smartphones to autonomous vehicles

TVS Breaks Ground with India’s First Electric Motorcycle Racing

TVS Racing, the racing arm of TVS Motor Company, one of India‘s largest motorcycle manufacturers, has unveiled its brand-new electric motorcycle racing series. Known as the TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC), this marks India’s entry into the electric two-wheeler racing world. The debut is set for September 29, 2023, as part of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC).

The power-to-weight ratio is expected to be the highest in the category

In a bid to focus on the rider’s capabilities, the championship’s Apache RTE electric sportbikes are designed to be identical in specifications. This eliminates machine disparity, putting the spotlight firmly on the skills of the eight racers selected for the series. What sets these bikes apart is their exceptional power-to-weight ratio, which, although undisclosed, is said to be the highest in the category.

TVS Electric

While the motorcycles come with high-power cells and liquid-cooled electric motors, what’s truly exciting is the environmental angle this championship introduces. By showcasing high-performance, carbon-fiber-clad electric bikes, TVS Racing is not just innovating but also pushing the envelope for greener motorsports in India and neighboring regions. The series offers an eco-conscious alternative to traditional motorcycle racing, while not compromising on the thrills and skills the sport demands.

Sudarshan Venu, the Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, emphasized the company’s “track to road” philosophy, which implies that technology developed for racing eventually finds its way into consumer vehicles. This series could very well lay the foundation for future electric vehicles in India, simultaneously boosting the popularity of electric vehicles and sustainable practices in motorsports.

Redmi Note 13 Pro also launching as a Poco phone globally: Tipster

Redmi launched the Note 13 series in China last week. The new lineup includes the vanilla Note 13, the higher-end Note 13 Pro, and the top-tier Note 13 Pro Plus. Like last year, these phones are expected to launch in the global market as well. While there’s no official confirmation, a reliable tipster claims Xiaomi plans to launch Note 13 Pro as a Poco-branded smartphone outside China.

Almost every Poco smartphone you see out there is a rebadged Redmi smartphone. This is true from the very first Poco F1 to the latest Poco F5. Kacper Skrzypek says the Redmi Note 13 Pro will also be rebranded as a Poco smartphone. However, they note the handset will launch with its original moniker as well.

Redmi-Note-13-Pro

It’s still unclear which Poco phone the Redmi Note 13 Pro will be rebranded as, but based on past trends, it’s likely to be a member of the Poco X series. This year’s Poco X5 Pro is essentially a rebadged Redmi Note 13 Pro Speed Edition, so it’s possible that the Note 13 Pro could be marketed as the Poco X6 Pro. However, it’s too early to say for sure, as we’re probably several months away from the official launch.

To remind you, the Redmi Note 13 Pro debuts as a solid mid-ranger from the brand. It brings a new 4nm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor. The handset has a flat 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout. It offers a 1.5K display resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1,600 nits peak brightness.

The Note 13 Pro also brings a 200MP primary camera, a 5100mAh battery, and 67W charging support. It starts at CNY 1,499 ($205) in China for the base 8GB + 128GB storage variant.
