Xiaomi’s Breakthrough in Sound Recognition Technology

To provide context, Google divided the AudioSet dataset into three parts, with the first two subsets collectively known as “AudioSet-2M” used for training purposes. It was within this training dataset that Xiaomi’s sound recognition algorithm model surpassed the 50 mAP threshold, setting a new standard in audio tagging technology.

Furthermore, Xiaomi has introduced a Mini version of this model, tailored for resource-constrained scenarios. Despite its reduced size, this Mini model outperforms similar models from other organizations.

This technological advancement holds practical value as it can be broadly applied to Xiaomi’s smart devices, enhancing the overall user experience. The algorithm excels at recognizing various environmental sounds, such as baby cries, animal noises, car engines, and more, and can represent these sounds in different forms, like text.

Furthermore, Xiaomi’s robots benefit greatly from this algorithm technology. The humanoid robot, CyberOne, can recognize 85 types of environmental sounds and perceive a wide range of human emotions through auditory sensing. The second-generation biomimetic quadruped robot, CyberDog 2, can identify 38 types of environmental sounds, further enhancing its dynamic response capabilities.

Google Chrome’s Scrolling Issue will fade away with Android 14

For years, users have been complaining about Google Chrome’s scrolling issue on Android. The same Chrome browser works flawlessly on iOS with smooth scrolling. It seems Google has acknowledged and prepared a fix for the scrolling issue which will be part of the Android 14 update. A full detailed blog post on the Chromium Blog explains the issue, and solution for improved scrolling.

Must See: How to Turn Off Chrome browser’s new Download Tray

The issue seems to be at the OS level, Android’s native touch input algorithm stutters a lot, and to overcome the issue, respective companies have made their own input algorithm for better scrolling experience. But, the Chrome browser can’t switch due to web compatibility issues. To overcome the issue, Google has introduced a new API in Android 14 which enables Chrome to offer a better scrolling experience.

An API called Nanosecond API allows apps to sample touch inputs at nanosecond intervals rather than the millisecond interval. The result of its usage is quite evident as the developers even posted a video of Redmi 9A utilizing the both Nanosecond and Millisecond API side-by-side. The scrolling becomes 2x smoother in comparison with the previous API.

Finally, Chrome for Android is getting the iPhone-like smooth-scrolling support with the Android 14. The device must be on the latest Android and enjoy smooth scrolling on Chrome for Android.

Samsung already started the OneUI 6.0 Beta Program based on Android 14 for selected devices like Galaxy S23, Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 5G. The program is live in the US, China, India, Germany, and South Korea for some devices. We expect more devices to join the program and benefit from the latest Android 14 version as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, if the Chrome for Android scrolling issues fade away with the Android 14, then we expect a similar experience for other Chromium-based browsers such as the Samsung Internet and Microsoft Edge.

Europe may get special Xiaomi 13T with Leica camera

The Xiaomi 13T series is set to go official on September 26. Ahead of that, we have been learning about these devices via leaks and certifications for quite a while now.

Recently, a new set of renders emerged along with pricing and color details for both pro and non-pro variants. These pictures also disclosed an interesting tidbit about the vanilla model.

In a nutshell, the standard Xiaomi 13T could differ region-wise. Let’s go through the details.

Xiaomi 13T

When the renders of the Xiaomi 13T lineup started appearing, only the pro version had the Leica branding. Even the unit used in the vanilla Xiaomi 13T unboxing video lacked the Leica branding on the rear.

However, the latest render leak shows Leica text on both Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro. The source of the new leak claims that these variants are meant for Europe.

Therefore, Xiaomiui suggests that Leica branding on Xiaomi 13T could be region-specific. As of now, it seems like European nations will get the special version of the device.

So what does it mean for regions that will lack Leica branding? In these markets, the regular Xiaomi 13T will most likely not offer Leica-related features like color processing, filters, and others.

Anyways, the camera hardware will be the same in all regions. The smartphone is expected to sport a 20MP selfie camera. Whereas, on the rear, it is said to house a triple camera setup comprising an OIS-assisted 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP 2x telephoto shooter, and a 12MP ultra-wide unit.

Apple ‘Made in India’ iPhone 15 first sale begins on September 22

The Apple iPhone 15 series was officially announced recently with a number of upgrades over its predecessors. The company is now gearing up to release these devices across the globe, and we finally have a first sale date.

Apple iPhone 15: When does it release?

According to new reports, the Cupertino based giant is releasing the Made in India iPhone 15 on the launch date for the first time ever. The Economic Times report hints that this move shows Apple’s confidence. In other words, the 2023 iPhones that are manufactured in India will be available to Indian customers on the same date as the first sale in other regions.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro, iPhoen 15 Pro Max
Apple iPhone 15 Pro, iPhoen 15 Pro Max

Apple manufactures its iPhone in India from its major supplier Foxconn’s factory in Tamil Nadu (a South Indian State). But despite the brand’s intention of same date release, sources have claimed that the iPhone 15 made in India might see delays over logistic issues. The move to shift iPhone production to India is a strategic change for Apple, which is trying to reduce its dependency on China.

So the plans for a same date first release also showcase the brand’s decision to continue its growth in India. For those unaware, the country is also the second largest smartphone market in the world. However, it remains to be seen if the iPhone 15 lineup actually gets delayed in the region, so stick around for more updates.

Following the launch of the Apple iPhone 15 series, the company has dropped the pricing for some of its older iPhone models. This includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and the iPhone 14 Plus, so here are all the details.

Which iPhones are getting the discount?

The Apple iPhone 15 lineup launched after months of rumors and speculations. After every new generation iPhone launch, the prices of older models get discounted. It is worth noting that these prices are permanent and much lower than their launch prices. Furthermore, these price tags are also applicable on the company’s official website, but the cost on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart might differ.

Oppo A2 Pro launch date officially revealed along with design and key specs

The Oppo A2 was tipped to launch at the end of this week a few days back. Today, the company has officially revealed the phone’s launch date.

Just like the leak suggested, the product is indeed going official later this week. Apart from disclosing the announcement date, the brand has also uncovered key specs of the handset along with its renders.

Let’s go through everything that’s known about Oppo’s next A Pro series smartphone for China.

Oppo A2 Pro

The Oppo A2 Pro is scheduled to launch in China on September 15 (September). It will be announced at 2:30 PM GMT+8.

As per the renders, the device will sport a leather back and a giant circular camera module. Weirdly, it looks more like a Huawei Mate 50 Pro than an Oppo Find X6 Pro.

It will be offered in three colors, such as brown, black, and purple. The latter color option has a glass/plastic rear panel instead of leather.

Further, the phone will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC paired with up to 12GB RAM. For the unaware, this is the same chip that powers the Realme 11 Pro series and Redmi Note 12 Pro series. This chipset was previously called Dimensity 1080 before the recent rebranding by MediaTek.

The device will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W charging. This battery is rated to retain more than 80% of its capacity even after 4 years of usage. If the battery degrades more than what Oppo claims, the company will offer a free replacement.

MIUI 15 Codebase reportedly confirms Xiaomi 14 Series launch in November

Xiaomi typically launches its flagship number series towards the end of the year. The Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro made their debut in December 2022. However, this time around, the company might launch the Xiaomi 14 series earlier, with reports suggesting the flagships may arrive in early November. While there is no official confirmation, the MIUI 15 codebase has now offered evidence backing the November launch timeline for the upcoming phones.

According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi is testing MIUI 15 based on Android 14. The code indicates that Xiaomi will release the Xiaomi 14 series models in China in the first week of November. The publication also adds that the latest internal version numbers are MIUI-V15.0.0.1.UNCEUXM and MIUI-V15.0.0.1.UNBEUXM. Based on the build number, it appears that the development of the Xiaomi 14 series is nearing completion.

Last week, tipster Digital Chat Station revealed a similar timeline, suggesting that Xiaomi aims to launch the Xiaomi 14 series before the Double Eleven sales event— a shopping event in China, also known as Singles’ Day. This event, which occurs on November 11 each year, can be considered the Chinese equivalent of Black Friday, if not even bigger.

As usual, Xiaomi has not made an official announcement yet. If the launch timelines are accurate, we can expect the company to commence teasing the new flagship next month. For those unaware, the upcoming Xiaomi 14 series will likely comprise two models— Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. There will also be an Ultra model, but its release is expected sometime in Q1 2024. Anyways, both devices are reported to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which itself is set to launch in October.
