Sennheiser Launches the “Budget” Ambeo Soundbar Mini, Priced at $800

Sennheiser is stepping into the budget-friendly ring with its newly unveiled Ambeo Soundbar Mini, but don’t let the “budget” and “Mini” tags mislead you. Priced at $800, it’s a serious contender against its compact rival, the Sonos Beam. While the Mini is easy on the wallet compared to its predecessors, the Ambeo Soundbar Max and Plus, it’s still not exactly a steal.

The Speakers boast 250 watts of amp power with 4 drivers and 2 subwoofers

Sized at less than half of the Ambeo Soundbar Plus, the Mini aims to fit in snug corners, even doubling as a desk speaker if you wish. The company boasts that its compactness doesn’t compromise on quality, packing 250 watts of amplification power backed by four full-range drivers and two four-inch subwoofers. This mini dynamo is engineered to deliver the same “sharp fidelity, impactful bass, and crystal-clear presence” as its more substantial family members.

What sets the Mini apart from its competition is Sennheiser’s signature Ambeo technology. This 3D audio system self-calibrates based on room specifics, from size to surface textures. All it takes is a one-touch process to optimize the speaker’s 7.1.4 surround sound capabilities. Compatible with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X MPEG-H, and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, this small but potent gadget aims to fill your room with immersive sound.

Streaming your favorite tunes is also a breeze. With both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, you can stream music from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal. The Ambeo OS ensures quick access to Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect. And for those who love talking to their tech, voice commands through Alexa are readily available.

However, it’s not all rosy; the Mini has its limitations. While the Sonos Beam offers more flexibility by supporting third-party subwoofers and rear speakers, the Ambeo Soundbar Mini locks you into Sennheiser’s ecosystem. Want to expand? Your only choice is the Ambeo Sub, costing an additional $600. What do you think about thse new launches from Sennheiser? Do you think they’re still too expensive, or would you give them a shot? Let us know in the comments below.

WhatsApp is working on a feature to hide the IP address in calls

Safeguarding Call Privacy: WhatsApp’s Upcoming IP Address Protection

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp previously introduced the silence unknown callers feature, allowing users to mute calls from unfamiliar contacts to enhance call privacy. The latest update reveals a new privacy relay feature for calls.

WhatsApp’s new privacy relay feature for calls involves rerouting calls through its servers, which hides the user’s IP address and prevents location guessing by call participants. However, this method could marginally lower call quality due to encryption. The feature aims to provide secure calls, defending against location tracking through call data, yet poses a challenge of balancing privacy and call quality.

whatsapp ip address protection feature

The privacy relay feature is currently undergoing testing with a limited group of beta users. It’s set to expand its testing to a wider audience soon, and a stable version is expected to be released in the future.

WhatsApp is working on several interesting features in addition to the privacy relay: the ability to reply to status updates using avatars, original quality photo and video sharing, and an improved calling interface.

It’s important to keep in mind that some popular third-party apps might not work with Android 14. So, if you rely heavily on these apps, it’s a good idea to be cautious when upgrading.

Currently, the Find X6 Pro, OnePlus 11, and Reno 9 Pro are also eligible for ColorOS x Android 14 beta recruitment. However, there are still very few details available regarding ColorOS 14. Oppo concluded its significant Find N3 Flip launch event in China, but it didn’t reveal any details about its custom software.

BYD shares jump after it posted a 200%+ increase in H1, 2023 profit

Chinese EV maker BYD seems to be on a roll after reporting its half-year financial results. The shares of the company jumped as a response to the company’s 204.68% increase in profit in H1, 2023. BYD reported a net profit of 10.95 billion yuan ($1.50 billion) from its H1 2022 net profit of 3.6 billion yuan ($494.13 million). Shares of the Chinese carmaker responded positively to the report with a 5% jump in the Chinese stock exchange.

BYD

The highly impressive H1 2023 performance of BYD was mainly driven by record deliveries and a fast-expanding marketing architecture. BYD shares listed in Hong Kong rose 5.6% while stocks in Shenzhen appreciated by 4.75%. In a stock filing, BYD attributed its impressive performance to rapid growth in the new energy vehicle business. BYD’s revenue in the first half of 2023 rose by 72.72% from H1, 2022. The company’s gross margin in the first half of this year was 18% which is as impressive as it can get.

BYD retains the record as China’s top-selling electric vehicle brand and it posted its best-ever quarterly sales numbers in Q2, 2023. Sales of BYD passenger EVs in the second quarter were 700,244 units (98% increase YOY). BYD’s sales numbers were higher than Tesla which was 466,140 vehicles sold in Q2, 2023. This further cements China’s position as the largest auto market globally in terms of sales and production. It also puts it as the largest EV market globally. BYD continues to flourish in the mass EV market while Tesla’s target is the luxury segment. The price differential will continue to drive sales for BYD as it expands to more overseas markets.

BYD retains the top spot in China’s EV market but it has some strong competitors like Nio and Xpeng, among others. The EV revolution is already ongoing in China and BYD maintains a positive outlook for the remaining part of the year.

JAC Electric Truck inspired by the Tesla Semi spotted in China

Automaker JAC could soon release an electric truck modeled after the Tesla Semi. The upcoming JAC electric truck was spotted in China and bears a similar design as the Tesla Semi.

JAC Electric Truck

The transition of heavy-duty transportation from fossil fuels to electricity has a massive implication in the transportation ecosystem. As the transition to electric mobility progresses at a high pace, many firms are adding electric options to their heavy-duty truck range.

The Tesla Semi is one of the most popular electric trucks in the market. It has been widely anticipated across global markets and is built for long-haul movements. The Tesla Semi can cover up to 500 miles (~805km) on a single charge. It also has a low energy consumption per mile (2kWh/ mile).

It seems the finer details of the Tesla Semi have inspired JAC to develop its own electric truck. The Tesla Semi lookalike truck was recently spotted in China with some images also available of its cockpit. The JAC electric truck’s cockpit has the same 3-seat cabin layout as the Semi, with the driver ensconced between two passengers.

The JAC electric truck features two 246kW electric motors and has a top speed of 89km/h. The yet-to-be-released electric truck has a swappable battery architecture that delivers up to 350km on a single charge. The swappable battery packs add another layer of versatility to the truck. With high-octane charging speeds between 350kW and 1MW being developed, the range of the EV is expandable.

JAC Electric Truck

The challenge remains however of providing the needed power infrastructure to accommodate any heavy electric truck rollout. Electric truck charging stations could require up to 50MW of power, which is about the power requirements of a small town. The development of electric trucks therefore holds the potential of also improving other aspects of infrastructure.

Battery swapping is another viable option that has less power requirements. It could also open up other financing models for greater functionality and coverage. There are no indications yet on the release date and pricing of the JAC electric truck.

Here’s how Oppo Find N3 Flip differentiates itself from competitors

Oppo entered the clamshell foldable category with the launch of the Oppo Find N2 Flip in December 2022. Within eight months, the company has now unveiled the successor aptly named Oppo Find N3 Flip.

The latest model arrives with a few improvements over the original. These very same features make it stand out from other similar devices on the market.

The phone primarily competes with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Because the other clamshell foldables like the Huawei P50 Pocket and the Vivo X Flip are comparatively older with outdated features.

As of now, the Oppo Find N3 Flip is limited to China. However, the brand has confirmed global availability for later.

Either way, it will go head-to-head with the aforementioned handsets from Samsung and Motorola in almost all markets. So let’s check out how it is different from its competitors.

What makes Oppo Find N3 Flip special?

1. Only clamshell foldable with triple cameras

Oppo Find N3 Flip

All the clamshell foldable smartphones on the market are limited to dual cameras, except for the newly unveiled Oppo Find N3 Flip. The third camera on this device is a 2x telephoto shooter, which is a first on such a product.

Most importantly, these three cameras are not regular sensors. The primary one is a 50MP Sony IMX890, the 2x telephoto lens is equipped with a 32MP Sony IMX709, and the 114° ultra-wide lens is equipped with a 48MP Sony IMX581. On the front, there’s another Sony IMX709 sensor.

All these cameras support autofocus, and therefore, the ultra-wide unit can be also used for macro photography. But only the main sensor has OIS.

These cameras are also tuned by Hasselblad algorithm. Hence, you also get specialized portrait models, XPAN mode, and others.

2. A MediaTek chip runs the show

Oppo Find N3 Flip

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, the Oppo Find N3 Flip 3 is powered by a MediaTek chipset. More specifically, it houses a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, making it the first and the only clamshell foldable with this chip.

The Dimensity 9200 chipset is almost as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC found inside the Galaxy Z Flip 5. As per benchmarks, it is slightly slower but costs less, which helps OEMs price the device lower.

The Oppo foldable starts at just ¥6,799 compared to Samsung’s ¥7,499 price tag in China. It is worth noting that the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is even more affordable at ¥5,699 as it uses a year-old Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip.

So all in all Oppo Find N3 Flip does not sacrifice on both performance and affordable price tag, thanks to a MediaTek chipset.

3. A convenient feature from OnePlus

Oppo Find N3 Flip

OnePlus is known for its alert slider. The feature was once removed but returned again with outcry from the public.

This switch has now made its way to the Oppo Find N3 Flip. Just like triple cameras, it is the only clamshell foldable with a dedicated button for changing sound profiles.

With the alert slider, users can conveniently switch between normal, silent, and vibrate modes without interacting with the cover screen or the main display.

Tesla may partner with Samsung for the autonomous driving chips for upcoming EVs

Tesla has a strong presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market and is working hard to become even more prominent in this area. As the demand for self-driving cars is growing rapidly, Tesla might be partnering with Samsung Electronics to gather more advanced chips for its next-generation EVs.

As per a recent report from Business Korea, Samsung is reportedly becoming Tesla’s primary provider for their 5th-generation self-driving chip (HW 5.0). This advanced chip is expected to utilize a cutting-edge 4nm process. Industry insiders have also noted that Tesla’s previous Full Self-Driving (FSD) chip was manufactured using Samsung’s 14nm semiconductors. Elon Musk’s goal of achieving fully autonomous vehicles, both Samsung and TSMC are being considered strong contenders for this partnership.

Earlier this year, news emerged online about a meeting involving Tesla’s Elon Musk and Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong. It was speculated that this meeting aimed to explore a potential collaboration between the two companies. Self-driving technology and semiconductor chips were thought to be the primary focus of interest for this collaboration. We know that Samsung holds a well-known position worldwide as a major semiconductor manufacturer. The strong possibility was that Tesla was trying to get Samsung on this project of autonomous driving chips for Tesla EVs. The full report of this meeting was covered on our website.

In related news, Tesla might be making its way to India by introducing its electric vehicles. The Indian government is also considering lowering the import tax on electric vehicles for automakers that partner with a local manufacturing unit. You can check out the full report by clicking here.

Google May Offer 5 Years Of OS Updates For The Pixel 8 And Existing Tensor-Powered Devices

Apple is popularly known for offering longer software support for its devices. It offers six or more years of software updates for its iPhones making users stick to their devices for a long period. However, on the other hand, the Cupertino-giant’s Android counterparts have been lagging in this aspect. While Google is responsible for new changes and features on Android, software support is something that is not in the hands of the search giant but instead smartphone OEMs. Now, a new report reveals that Google might offer longer software support for its Pixel devices thereby extending their lifespan.

Google may offer more OS updates starting with the Pixel 8

Google Pixel 8

Google currently delivers three years of major OS updates and five years of security patches for its Pixel devices. This software update policy came into effect with the Pixel 6’s launch way back in 2021. Soon after many brands joined the bandwagon in offering more than 2 years of software support for selected devices These include OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo etc. Samsung is the only brand that is committed to delivering four years of OS updates for its phones. However, the latest report suggests that Google might be one-upping the South Korean company.

The folks at 9to5Google citing one of their sources reveal that Google might offer a longer software support for the upcoming Pixel 8 series. The search giant is planning to deliver five years of OS updates for its devices powered by a Tensor processor. The company’s proprietary chipset is already capable of receiving five years of software updates. However, it remains to be seen if the Pixel 6 will indeed receive two years of additional OS updates compared to the guaranteed three years when it launched.

With the potential extended software support, Google will surpass Samsung’s four-year software update policy. Smartphones don’t become obsolete as many new features are introduced through app updates and Google Play Services. However, longer software support will take Google close to Apple’s policy. It will also extend the longevity of the smartphones.
