Xiaomi 13 Ultra debuted earlier this year in China and recently made its way to the global market, starting with Hong Kong. All the marketing material and reviews of the smartphone will tell you it has great cameras, and that’s mostly correct. However, it turns out that the 13 Ultra is not good enough to be DXOMARK’s best cameraphone. In fact, it doesn’t even rank in the top 10.
Xiaomi 13 Ultra is DXOMARK’s 14th best cameraphone, falls behind iPhone 14 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has impressed users and reviewers alike with its versatile camera system. We took our own time to test the device’s cameras and were equally impressed, noting that it can even compete head-to-head with smaller cameras like the RICOH GR series. This sentiment is echoed by tech publishers worldwide. However, it appears that DXOMARK is not nearly as impressed as everyone else.
What we found astounding is that Xiaomi 13 Ultra ranks even lower than the Mi 11 Ultra from two years ago. To remind you, Xiaomi 13 Ultra boasts an impressive camera setup, featuring four 50 MP lenses. The primary camera utilizes the Sony IMX989 sensor, while the ultra-wide-angle and two telephoto cameras make use of three IMX858 sensors.
In its testing, DXOMARK noted several issues with the smartphone’s cameras. This includes a noticeable delay between pressing the shutter button and the device capturing an image. More issues are listed in the image below along with the merits.
You may check out DXOMARK’s full report here. Also, to see the device in action, you might want to see our detailed video below.

Priced just above the Redmi A series, the Redmi 12C is a budget smartphone with all the features you need. The handset was unveiled in India earlier this year in April with a price tag of under Rs. 10,000. It boasts a large HD+ display and a massive 5,000mAh battery. The good news is that Redmi is offering a sweet discount of up to Rs. 1000 on the Redmi 12C, making it an even more affordable option for those who don’t want to spend a fortune. Here’s how you can avail the discount.
Redmi 12C becomes more affordable
The Redmi 12C debuted in India with a starting price of Rs. 8,999. However, recently Xiaomi humbled the consumers with Rs. 200 discount, making it available for Rs 8,799. If this wasn’t enough (we know it wasn’t), the company has now announced a Rs. 800 price cut for a limited time through special offers. Do note that the offer is applicable only on the base 4GB model.
To avail of this discount, you’ll need to purchase the device on EMI through Amazon using an ICICI credit card, HDFC credit card, or HDFC debit card. This will bring the effective price of the device down to Rs. 7,999. Amazon has mentioned June 15 as the last date for the credit/debit card offer, with no specific date mentioned for the UPI offer.
As a reminder, the Redmi 12C features the Helio G85 chipset, accompanied by up to 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. It features a 6.71-inch IPS LCD panel that produces an HD+ resolution of 1650 x 720 pixels. The panel offers a 20.6:9 aspect ratio and 500 nits of brightness. The device packs a 5,000mAh battery with 10W.
Technology continues to make our lives easier. We can now use various trackers to keep track of our belongings, which we might worry about losing. The most popular tracker is Apple’s AirTag, but there are also other options available. For example Jio has launched a new tracking device in India called the JioTag, as an affordable option for locating your lost items. Here are the details…
The JioTag Has a Replaceable Battery That is Said to Last for Up to a Year
Jio has recently launched its new tracking device, the JioTag, in India. The JioTag is a small, portable device that can be attached to your belongings, such as your keys, wallet, or backpack. If you ever lose one of these items, you can use the JioTag to track it down. The device uses Bluetooth Low energy technology to connect to your smartphone. Once the JioTag is paired with your phone, you can use the JioThings app to track its location. The app will show you the JioTag’s current location on a map, as well as its last known location.
If the JioTag is out of range of your smartphone, the Jio Community Network can help you find it. The Jio Community Network is a group of people who have volunteered to help find lost JioTags. When a JioTag is lost, it will send out a signal to the Jio Community Network. If someone in the network finds the JioTag, they can use the JioThings app to report its location.
The JioTag is a very affordable option for tracking your belongings. It costs just Rs. 749, which is much less than the price of other tracking devices, such as the Apple AirTag. The JioTag is also very easy to use. Simply attach it to your belongings, pair it with your smartphone, and you’re ready to go. If you’re looking for an affordable and easy-to-use tracking device, the JioTag is a great option. It’s small, portable, and easy to use.

Nokia introduced several new smartphones in the US this month, including the rugged XR21 with an “indestructible” build. Soon, HMD Global may launch a new affordable smartphone in the G series, called Nokia G42 5G. The smartphone was recently spotted on the Geekbench website, running Android 13 and an unknown Qualcomm processor. Here are the details.
New Nokia G42 5G could launch soon
The Nokia G42 was recently spotted on Geekbench with its key specifications. The handset was listed on the benchmarking site with quad core Qualcomm processor with a base frequency of 1.90 GHz. There’s also a fast cluster of two cores, clocked at 2.21 Ghz. While we don’t know the exact name of this processor, it is expected to be a lower mid-range SoC.
This is further evidenced by the running score. The Nokia G42 has managed to score 738 in single-core tests and 1718 in multi-core tests. The Geekbench listing further suggests that the smartphone gets at least 4GB of RAM and runs the Android 13 software out of the box. This is all the information we get from the present listing.
Previous reports claim the Nokia G42 will also have a 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of built-in storage. The smartphone could boast a screen resolution of 1612*720 and be available in purple and gray color options. Other details about the smartphone are still anyone’s guess. We hope to learn more in the coming days.
As we mentioned above, Nokia recently unveiled the rugged XR21 smartphone in the US with MIL-STD 810H military-grade durability, IP68-rated waterproofing, and IP69K-certification dust resistance. It comes powered by the Snapdragon 695 processor, coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage.
Apple is a successful company in both commercial and technological terms. They have a knack for setting trends, even with technologies that have been around for a while. Virtual reality and augmented reality are two examples of this. While the “Metaverse” hype has been overblown, AR and VR have never been more popular than they are right now, thanks in part to Apple’s upcoming Visual Pro headset. In response to this potential threat, some manufacturers are preparing to try to counter Apple’s influence. Here are the details…
The Mixed Reality Market Heats Up as Apple and Android Square Off
Apple announced its new mixed reality headset, Vision Pro, at WWDC 2023. The headset has impressive features, but it won’t be released until early 2024. This has disappointed some people, but it has also opened a window of opportunity for others. Apple’s rivals are also working on mixed reality headsets.
The Android group, on the other hand, is developing a range of MR products at different price points. Samsung is reportedly working on a pair of MR glasses that will be priced around $300. Google is also developing an mixed reality operating system (OS) and chipsets for MR devices. Qualcomm is providing its Snapdragon XR2 chipset for MR headsets from other companies, such as Magicleap.
Industry insiders are expecting a confrontation between Apple and the Android group in the mixed reality market, just like the current smartphone race. Counterpoint Research expects global MR-XR headset shipments to grow from 18 million units in 2022 to 110 million in 2025 and 1 billion in 2030. But for this we have no choice but to wait
Raging in anger, you type the vilest insult known to humanity, only to find out that your iPhone has autocorrected your most lethal expletives (the words that start with F) with a rather lovely creature—a duck. We’ve all been there and done that, and honestly speaking, it’s not a great experience. Apparently, Apple has also realized this, as it announced during WWDC 2023 that the iPhone keyboard will no longer correct the common swear words with “duck” and “ducking.”
No more “What the duck!”
Apple introduced its latest iOS 17 software at WWDC 2023, held earlier this week. While the new software may not seem like a big deal on the surface, it does bring some welcome upgrades. Most notably, it fixes Apple’s “ducking” autocorrect problem. The Cupertino company announced during its developers’ event that the new iOS software will utilize machine learning technology to stop autocorrecting swear words.
“In those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it, too,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering.
Apple’s autocorrect has historically caused users to become frustrated, leading to the popular phrase often seen on social media: “Damn you, autocorrect.” It has also sparked a flurry of memes featuring ducks (one of which can be seen above).
This new change will roll out with the iOS 17 update, which will make its way to your phones in September 2023. A Developer Beta for the new firmware is already available for developers, with Public Betas to start rolling out from July 2023 onwards. During WWDC, Apple also introduced its new Vision Pro headsets with some serious tech and a price tag that will make you rub your eyes in disbelief.
It appears that Vivo is gearing up to launch a new mid range grade smartphone in the market soon. A new certification listing has revealed that the company is working on a new Y27 5G model. So here are all the details.
Vivo Y27 5G carries the model number V2302
Just last month, we had reported on the Vivo Y27 being spotted on various online listings. This includes a sighting on the Google Play Console, which revealed some of its key specifications, as well as on the NCC website. The latter revealed live images of the device ahead of its official launch. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker’s upcoming Y27 5G was even spotted on the EEC certification. This listing reveals that it carries the V2302 model number.
Based on the previous reports, we know that the Vivo Y27 5G might be equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC. For those unaware, the Dimensity 700 could be rebranded as the Dimensity 6020 SoC. Furthermore, the device will also run on Android 13 OS based FunTouchOS 13 out of the box. The Google Play Console listing revealed that the chipset will be paired with 6GB of RAM and sport a display that has a Full HD+ resolution and a 440 ppi screen density.
There have also been rumors of the Vivo Y27 model being a rebranded Y36 5G. If this is true, we can expect the Y27 will sport a 6.44 inch LCD panel that has a 90Hz refresh rate. Other notable features include, a 50 megapixel primary camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor with an LED flash. Meanwhile, the front may house a 16 megapixel selfie shooter.
Google has recently unveiled the Android 14 Beta 3 for Pixel devices, accompanied by an early preview of Android 14 for TV. Alongside this update, Google has made the decision to retire Android 13 for television devices, which will no longer be recommended in the emulator menu of Android Studio.
Despite the recent update for Chromecast with Google TV, which still runs on Android 12, it appears that Google has abandoned plans for an Android 13-based update for all Android TV and Google TV devices.
Android TV 14 features
As reported by Mishaal Rahman, there have been several notable changes in the code for Android 14 TV Beta. Firstly, the install dialogs on Android TV 14 now showcase an updated design specifically tailored for television devices. Additionally, the accessibility option has been elevated to a top-level menu item in Settings, making it easily accessible for users.
There have also been updates to the Power & Energy settings, which have been relocated under Settings > System, just below the “About” section. Furthermore, the “Energy Saver” option has been renamed to “Shut-Off Timer.”
Android TV 14 introduces expanded accessibility settings, with the “Services” option now called “Screen Readers” and placed at the top. Moreover, there is a new shortcut to adjust text scaling and a setting for bold text. Various other settings have been reorganized into appropriate categories.
Under Display settings, a new option called “format selection” has been introduced in Android TV 14. It allows users to choose whether content should always be converted to formats like Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, or SDR.
Energy efficiency has been given attention in Android TV 14 with the inclusion of four energy modes: Low, moderate, high, and unrestricted. Switching energy modes can optimize power consumption when the TV is not in use, depending on the level of network connectivity.
The display frame rate settings have been adjusted, with the “non-seamless” option now renamed to “Always.” This setting ensures that content frame rates are matched appropriately. Furthermore, if a connected display does not support seamless content transitions, Android TV 14 will notify the user.
Color correction settings have been introduced under the Accessibility section of Android TV 14. Users can access and customize color correction settings based on their preferences.
Certain appearance settings will only be visible if the build supports low power standby and other relevant DeviceConfig flags are enabled.
Android TV 14 allows users to select their preferred dynamic range for format conversion—System-preferred, Passthrough, or Force conversion—based on their preferences.
Looking ahead, Android TV 14 is preparing to enable call notifications from supported apps on the TV screen, with adjustable preferences for individual apps. Additionally, the Google TV launcher may include a “Headphones” option, making it more convenient to connect Bluetooth headphones without navigating through the settings.
Users will also have the ability to create shortcuts for their favorite apps in Android TV 14, allowing them to open specific apps using a custom button on the remote. Furthermore, they can easily view and switch between inputs for TV or other connected devices using the same custom button.
The global smartphone market is in a state of decline. Almost every other OEM is registering negative growth, except for one — Honor.
Ever since Honor separated from its parent company Huawei, it has been slowly increasing its presence in markets outside China. Counterpoint Research has published a report noting the achievements of the brand.
The article talks about Honor’s key international markets and its product portfolio. Let’s go through some of the important takeaways.
As per Counterpoint, Honor was the only major brand other than HMD Global to register growth in markets outside China in the first quarter of 2023. The company grew four times compared to the same quarter last year.
Honor’s market share increased at a time when other Chinese brands saw a decline by double-digits. Europe, MEA (Middle East & Africa), and LATAM (Latin America) were the company’s key global markets.
In Europe, the brand grew by over five-fold. It was able to achieve this by partnering with major retailers as well as operators like Three, Orange, SFR, and Wind Tre.
The brand managed to increase its market presence with just three lineup of smartphones, namely Magic series, Number series, and X series. These three fall under premium, mid-range, and budget segments, respectively.
Honor registered a whopping eight-fold growth in LATAM. It is already a top-five brand in Colombia and Peru. It is also gaining momentum in Panama and Guatemala.
The brand also grew six-fold in MEA. The Middle East, in particular, was one of the key growth regions. It is a top 5 brand in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.
Though most of Honor’s sales come from its X series outside China, it is expanding its premium portfolio with expensive slab and foldable phones. You can learn more about what Counterpoint Research has to say about Honor’s future here.
