Samsung could improve Low-light Imaging on Galaxy S23 Ultra with next Update

With a 200MP primary sensor on the back, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has debuted as one of the best camera phones on the market. The handset has received praise from users and reviewers alike for its impressive imaging capabilities, and Samsung has further improved its cameras with software updates. However, according to a tipster, the brand now wants to bring improvements to the S23 Ultra’s low-light imaging with an upcoming update. Here are the details.

Galaxy S23 Ultra could soon get Another major Camera Update

Samsung has recently rolled out a significant camera-improving update for the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. This update brings changes to the autofocus algorithm, resulting in faster photography. Furthermore, the gallery now features a new function that enables users to delete photos instantly. Additionally, the update enhances the ultra-wide camera photography by improving sharpness and introducing a notification when shooting in low light with the ultrawide lens.

Renowned tipster Ice Universe claims that Samsung is planning to release another update, primarily focusing on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, to enhance its low-light performance. While the exact nature of these improvements and the release date remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that Samsung will address these enhancements alongside the May 2023 security patch, expected to roll out this month.

Recently, the same tipster shared that Samsung is planning to address the HDR issue present in the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera. This issue has been causing a halo effect and abnormal contour around objects. We assume the Korean company intends to combine both the low-light performance enhancements and the fix for the HDR issue in a single OTA update.

A New 5G Huawei Smartphone may be Under Testing

Once a leader in 5G technology, Huawei is now unable to incorporate the next-gen connectivity feature into its phones. The brand has been restricted to using only 4G chips. However, recent reports suggest that the company is working on a 5G smartphone. Interestingly, leaked images of the handset in the past showcase a design reminiscent of the popular Huawei P40 Pro (review).

Huawei will finally launch a 5G phone?

Huawei has been restricted from using 5G technology and Google services amid the trade ban imposed by the US government. Over the past few years, the company has relied on 4G chipsets from Qualcomm. However, behind the scenes, Huawei has been testing several 5G phones, none of which have made it to the production stage. Now, a Chinese tipster claims that the company has a new 5G device currently under testing.

Although not many details have been shared, reports indicate that the smartphone will bear a resemblance to the flagship Huawei P40 Pro in terms of design. Last week, an alleged prototype of this handset was spotted featuring a curved screen and a wave-shaped aluminum frame. Unlike the 2020 flagship model, which incorporates a pill-shaped cutout on the display, this device boasts a punch hole located in the top center.

Huawei P40 pro lookalike

Currently, it is unclear if the test model will actually make it to the market. However, there is hope that Huawei will soon find a solution to incorporate 5G connectivity into its phones. In the meantime, users may consider phone cases with built-in modules that enable 5G connectivity. A China-based manufacturer recently released such cases for the newly launched Huawei P60 series. While not a permanent solution, it provides a good option for those who wish to experience high-speed connectivity.

Indian government bans 14 mobile apps used for terror activities

The Indian government has banned 14 mobile apps after intelligence agencies reported that these apps were being used by terrorists in Kashmir to communicate with their supporters and spread terror propaganda. The apps that were banned on May 1st do not have representatives in India, making it difficult to track down activities happening on the app. This move brings the total number of banned apps to 288, with the previous bans targeting apps with connections to China, which the government deemed prejudicial to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

The banned apps include popular messaging and chat applications such as IMO, Element, and Threema, as well as file-sharing and storage apps such as Mediafire. The ban also includes apps that offer end-to-end encryption, such as Enigma, Wickrme, and Crypviser, which are popular among privacy advocates.

List of 14 apps that are banned:

  • Crypviser
  • Enigma
  • Safeswiss
  • Wickrme
  • Mediafire
  • Briar
  • BChat
  • Nandbox
  • Conion
  • IMO
  • Element
  • Second line
  • Zangi
  • Threema

The government had previously banned 59 mobile apps in June 2020, 118 apps including PUBG Mobile in September 2020, 43 apps including AliExpress in November 2020, and 54 apps including Tencent-backed Garena’s Free Fire in February 2022. The bans on these apps were also made under Section 69A of the IT law, with the government citing national security concerns and threats to public order.

The ban on these apps is expected to be enforced soon, with Google and Apple notifying developers to remove them from their app stores. This move is part of the Indian government’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and preserve national security by regulating the use of mobile apps and other digital technologies.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Gets Astrophotography Mode In Expert RAW App

Samsung’s astrophotography mode debuted on this year’s Galaxy S22 series. While the Galaxy S21 series received the feature, it has now arrived on the brand’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. The support for astrophotography mode is available with the latest version of the Expert RAW app that was released on the Galaxy Store last week.

Astrophotography Mode now available on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Samsung

The latest version of the Expert RAW app is 2.0.09.1. It can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. The app also notifies that there is an update available when it is opened. Once the latest version is installed, the astrophotography mode can be accessed at the top right corner of the screen to start taking astrophotos.

The astrophotography mode allows users to capture long-exposure photos of stars and constellations as well as pinpoint the location of the constellations through the Expert RAW app. However, the quality of the images depends on the surrounding light pollution and how clear the skies are. This means that users may not get the best results in cities

Samsung has already confirmed that the astrophotography mode will make its way to older flagship devices including the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, and all generations of the Galaxy Z Fold except the original model. With the Galaxy S21 and Z Fold 4 having got the update, we can expect it to become available for other eligible devices soon.

In other news, Samsung is tipped to launch the next-generation Galaxy foldables earlier than usual this year. The CAD-based renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 have emerged recently.

4K TV market to see a steady compound growth of 19% until 2027

A new report has revealed that the 4K TV market will continue to see growth in the coming years. The 4K TV market will apparently see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 19 percent in the five year period starting from 2022 and 2027.

4K TV market to almost double by 2027

The data arrives from a new report from Technavio, who shared that the high end TV market will see a 19.19 percent growth over the course of this five year period. It adds that the 4K market will reach a sizeable 183.45 billion US Dollars. In other words, the market will almost double in the next couple of years. The rising popularity of these high resolution TVs arrives thanks to growing sales of TVs with larger displays.

4K

The Technavio report states that the standard size of TVs was just around 40 inches. However, due to the shift in trends in the market, the TVs being made have even surpassed the 80 inches in size. Furthermore, as smart TVs have become increasingly more popular in the market, customers have also began gravitating towards models that support 4K resolution.

Although, the market still faces many challenges with one of the biggest hurdles being the lack of 4K content. While these 4K enabled models can still support run content on the lower 1080p or 720p resolution, customers would prefer spending less money to just buy TVs with these lower resolution.

OLED Technology Transforms Phones and TVs into Portable Quantum Sensors

Smartphones, computers, and televisions all share one common feature: they have a screen, and user interaction occurs through this display. Therefore, the panel technology used in your device is quite important. Undoubtedly, one of the best panel technologies available today is OLED. Thin, efficient, and highly advanced, this technology is typically used in top-of-the-line premium devices. However, it seems that this is not the only benefit of OLEDs. Scientists in Australia claim that the OLEDs in our phones and TVs could one day be used as portable quantum sensors to image magnetic fields. Here are the details…

Smartphone and TV Screens Become Magnetic Field Mappers with OLED Technology

I am sure that many of you have used OLED technology in one way or another at some point in your life. As these panel types become increasingly affordable and widespread, researchers have created a device structure that allows for measuring magnetic fields both electrically and optically without the need for lasers.

Rugang Geng, the lead author of the study, explains that incorporating a small piece of microwave electronics with OLEDs enables them to function not only as displays and light sources but also as quantum sensors and magnetic field imagers. Geng’s statement on the subject is as follows:

“If this technology is properly developed, people could simply use their smartphones to map the magnetic fields around them, for example, to spot defects in diamonds or jewelry. This also has applications in industry, such as finding defects in construction materials or as a biomedical sensor.”

This study showcases the potential of a small-scale OLED-based magnetic field sensor and a new approach to magnetic field mapping using a technology that is both commercially viable and easy to manufacture.
