Tecno pushes for 4 new Standards to improve Photography on Smartphones

Tecno is apparently pushing to introduce four new standards of photography on future smartphones. The company is taking a leading role in forming ‘Four ITU-T International Standards for Mobile Terminal Computational Photography System.’

As per an official announcement, the smartphone maker revealed that its four new proposals were successfully accepted by ITU-T Study Group. This makes Tecno one of the innovative brands that is working to promote the creation of new international standards for smartphone photography. For those unaware, the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) is an organization that promotes authorized standards corporation, which has 193 member states and more than 900 private-public members. IT also provides an internal platform for telecom and Information Communication Technology (ICTs) and a unified voice for innovation in the industry.

Tecno

Among its four new proposals, the company is pushing for ‘Metadata Management in Image Processing Algorithms.’ As various brands employ different image processing algorithms, Tecno is working on solving issues revolving compatibility and consistency. In simpler terms, make the image processing process more refined across the board. Another proposal is the ‘Guarantee for AWB Training Data Consistency and Reality.’ This standard will help deal with the problem of color cast and capture the ideal white light for improve image quality.

Tecno

AWB or Automatic White Balance is the primary method for computational photography, and Tecno’s team is working on breakthroughs in the AWB module to unify the data collection and processing standard for the mobile devices category. This would again make the process more efficient and create consistency among different devices from various other OEMs. The company is also working on ‘Significant Progress in Image Aesthetics Assessment.’ As smartphone users now require higher quality images and better looking shots nowadays, Tecno uses its localized and inclusive aesthetics algorithms to help the photography experience for users.

Lastly, Tecno is pushing for ‘Standardization on Multi-camera Collaboration’ as well. As the average number of image sensors have risen over the last couple of years, mult-camera systems have become an important feature in the industry. However, the wide range of camera applcations were using different operating systems that caused gaps in the multi-camera collaboration technologies and created incompatibility among different manufacturers. Thus, experts from Tecno are working on standardizing the multi-camera collaboration, which will help specifications be shared and promote an industry wide collaboration. This system can even be found on its premium smartphone such as the newly launched Phantom X2.

Indian PC Market Ends Growth Streak with 4% Fall in Q3 2022

The Indian PC market, including desktops, notebooks, and tablets, saw a downturn in the third quarter of 2022, with shipments falling 4% year on year to 5.1 million units. According to research firm Canalys, notebook shipments were the main contributor to the overall market decline, falling sharply by 21%. However, desktop and tablet shipments saw significant annual growth, with 36% and 24% increases to 766,000 units and 1.5 million units respectively.

Weak Demand from Commercial and Consumer Sectors Affects Indian PC Market

One bright spot for the Indian PC market was the education sector, which saw a surge in shipments due to the release of public sector tenders that had been postponed in the previous two years. This led to a 181% increase in shipments across all product categories in the third quarter. The segment is expected to continue to be a strong performer, particularly for tablets, which are a key part of India’s digital education expansion strategy.

Vendor Q3 2022 shipments Q3 2022

Canalys PC Market Pulse: Q3 2022

On the commercial side, however, demand for PCs was weaker due to businesses reprioritizing IT spending in the face of an uncertain economic climate. Shipments to the commercial segment fell 11% compared to the same period in the previous year, as both enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses saw weaker demand due to inflation and interest rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India.

On the consumer side, demand for PCs was also relatively weak during the festive season, with household spending declining significantly after a surge in the second quarter. Despite promotional activity by vendors and retailers, consumer shipments fell 12% year on year as inventory clearance remained an issue.

The return to in-person education also reduced the need for devices to support remote learning, leading to sluggish consumer demand that is expected to continue into the beginning of 2023. The weakening rupee is also putting additional upward pressure on prices. In terms of market share, HP was the top vendor in the third quarter of 2022, with 26.5% of shipments, followed by Lenovo with 23.6% and Dell with 12.8%. Acer and Asus also had significant market share, with 12.7% and 10.7% respectively.

TikTok

The ban isn’t just limited to the COA but will also extend to other organizations and agencies within the US government. This news follows the recent spending bill that includes a more comprehensive ban that will prevent all federal issued devices from installing TikTok apps. For those unaware, the app is currently the most popular social media platform across many nations. However, it also faces criticism for being operated by ByteDance, which is a China based company and follows Chinese policy towards data management, privacy, and more.

Plus, it has also been accused on occasions for harvesting user data and other sensitive information as well. For this reason, the app still remains banned in India while various other governments, including the US have scrutinized and criticized the platform on multiple occasions.

Oppo Find X6 Pro detailed camera specs emerge online

The Oppo Find X6 Pro is the brand’s next-gen flagship smartphone, expected to debut at some point in Q1 2023. Multiple details regarding the device have already been leaked. And now, the camera details of the device have also been tipped.

OPPO

According to Digital Chat Station, the main 50 MP camera on the Find X6 Pro will use a Sony IMX989 sensor, a 1″-type sensor also used in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It will sport a 23 mm equivalent focal length, an f/1.8 aperture, a 7P lens, and OIS. Oppo uses the IMX890 sensor, which has 50 MP, for the main camera in the Find N2, but here the 1/1.56″ sensor will be hidden by an f/2.2 lens.

Oppo

Given its 64 mm equivalent focal length, the telephoto lens will either contain a Sony IMX766 or Sony IMX890 sensor, both of which are the same size. However, the zoom will be roughly 3x. Additionally, OIS is included, and the aperture is listed as f/2.6. Last but not the least, the leaker also claims that the smartphone has a 32 MP Sony IMX709 sensor for the front camera.

Other details that have surfaced so far state that the device has a 6.7-inch display, which will be an E6 OLED panel with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset powers the device. This chipset will reportedly be paired with up to 512GB of internal storage and 12GB of RAM. The device will be powered by a huge 5,000mAh battery pack inside, which could also handle up to 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra to feature an impressive new Periscope Zoom Camera: Tipster

The Xiaomi 13 series was launched earlier this month in China. But this is not the end for the flagship series, since the company typically also releases a high end Ultra model of its numbered series. Now, a new leak has revealed some interesting details regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 13 Ultra model.

As per tipster Kartikey Singh, the Chinese tech giant’s new Ultra variant for its latest flagship series will feature an all new and improved periscope camera on the rear. The tipster claimed that the new periscope camera on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra “will shock everyone.” In other words, the brand is clearly trying to bring some impressive performance or features through this zoom lens. The company’s Ultra models of smartphones are some of its most premium phones that also feature its best photographic capabilities.

Xiaomi

So, this news isn’t exactly surprising. Last year’s iteration, the 12s Ultra, launched with the Sony IMX989 sensor that had a large 1 inch sensor size. Singh further added that “Since last 2 years no-one was able to challenge Samsung in long magnification Zoom which made Samsung lazy and they are using same hardware for 3 generations now but next year things will Start turning around and this monopoly will come to (an) end.”

Meaning, the new optical zoom module could likely offer improved quality and sharper images while also offering additional magnification. Samsung still takes the crown with its telephoto cameras, but it soon might have a worthy competitor. Unfortunately, this is all we know regarding the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s periscope camera. So stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Asus has launched a new 60% keyboard with a 68-key layout in China called the ROG Magician Competitive Edition Yueyaobai mechanical keyboard. The Magician Competitive Edition Yueyaobai is aesthetically pleasing, with a sophisticated moonlight-white color scheme and RGB lighting effects that can be adjusted with AURA SYNC technology. Users can select from a selection of rhythmic lighting effects as a result to improve their game experience.

The keyboard comes with ROG NX mechanical switch, which is available in three different handle options: Hawthorn Red, Glacier Blue, and Mocha Brown. Among them, the NX Hawthorn Red switch and NX Mocha Brown switches have an actuation point of 0.1mm, which makes the keystroke register even with the lightest presses. For those unaware, Red and Brown mechanical switches usually have an actuation point of 0.2mm. So, the NX Hawthorn Red and NX Mocha Brown switch actually help with cutting down reaction time while playing competitive titles.

A Smart Bar touch bar on the side of the keyboard is another feature of the Magician Competitive Edition Yueyaobai that enables users to customize key functions and control them directly. A two-way USB-C interface on the keyboard allows users to simultaneously connect two devices, and it also has a key line separation design. A protective cover is bundled with the keyboard, allowing users to easily take it on the go.

The Asus ROG Magician Competitive Edition Yueyaobai mechanical keyboard is priced at 599 yuan and is currently available to purchase in China through JD.com.
