The competition in the smartphone market continues at full speed. However, one brand manages to outperform its competitors in almost every market. You guessed it right, Apple is way ahead of its competitors, especially in the premium segment. Moreover, the company maintains this dominance even in markets such as China where domestic brands are very strong. According to latest reports, Apple reaches highest ever monthly market share in China.
One in every four devices sold in China was an iPhone
Apple reached its highest ever monthly market share (25%) in China in October 2022, while becoming the #1 OEM in the country for the second consecutive month, according to Counterpoint Research’s Monthly Market Pulse Service. While the sales for other key OEMs declined in October, Apple grew 21% MoM. In YoY terms, China’s sales declined 15%, while Apple’s sales declined just 4%.
Apple has been reaching new heights in terms of market share in China during the last two years. It reached a record monthly market share in November and December 2020, and in October, November and December 2021. Notably, 2020 was also the year when US sanctions were imposed on Huawei.
Commenting on the market growth in China, Research Director Ethan Qi said, “China’s market has been sluggish due to multiple factors, including macroeconomic pressures and COVID-19 lockdowns hitting consumer sentiment. Overall sales declined 4% MoM. However, Apple managed to defy the market trend. This also shows the resilient nature of the premium segment.
Looking at the trend for the last two years in China, it is evident that Apple has emerged as a clear winner of Huawei’s share in the premium market. It has almost become an undisputed leader in China’s premium segment. The iPhone 14 series has started off well with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max performing better than the previous generation. The iPhone 13 also continues to do well, as the iPhone 14 offers little differentiation from the iPhone 13.”
The evolution of smartphones is progressing very fast. Every year, performance and camera features are getting better than the predecessor models, but the same cannot be said about the design. For example, Apple has been criticized for using the same design with almost every iPhone. Lastly, an engineer who decided to fix Apple’s shortcomings made a curved iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Curved iPhone 14 Pro Max gain a lot of attention on social media
An engineer using the nickname fix Apple (@lipilipsi) on Twitter made a curved iPhone 14 Pro Max. Fix Apple said that he achieved this result by changing the middle frame of the phone. In the video, the phone looks flawless, and even Dynamic Island stays in place. However, there is no detail about whether the touch screen is working or not.
As you know, Apple doesn’t like their phones tampered with. As you know, Apple does not want their phones to be tampered with and is very sensitive about using original parts. Therefore, there is a possibility that there will be a problem after this process. Still, fix Apple promises to make curved screens to people who want it.
Unfortunately, there is no information about the cost of this process or on which models it is possible. For now, we’ve only seen the iPhone 14 Pro Max. @lipilipsi‘s bio says he’s engineered at Apple and Huawei. Unfortunately, we are unable to verify this information. So be careful if you want a curved iPhone 14.
Apple fans insist on design change
The curved iPhone isn’t the only modified iPhone Apple enthusiasts have made. Recently, a fan in China managed to convert his iPhone into a Galaxy Z Flip-like foldable smartphone. The video of the foldable iPhone showcases different parts of other foldable smartphones with a clamshell design. This fan’s project was a year-long effort, but it is still just a prototype and won’t come close to an actual finished product from a major tech giant.

We expect the devices to be launched somewhere around the starting months of 2022 i.e. Jan or Feb. Most probably, the device will launch in the month of Jan itself. However, all of this stands out to be an expectation so you can take the information with a pinch of salt!
Apart from this, there isn’t much else we can say about the next gadget. So, we advise you to hold off until the official announcement. That will put all of our questions to rest and provide comprehensive information about the device.

Corning has launched the Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It is the successor to the Victus that was announced back in 2020. The newest generation glass from the company is touted to offer improved drop resistance. Corning says that Gorilla Glass has been used in eight billion devices, across 45 major brands and 85 percent of buyers in China, India, and the US consider durability as the most important factor in smartphone purchase.
Smartphones today are highly prone to potential damage since the glass is quite fragile and due to thinner, and lighter designs. Additionally, the larger the screen diagonal is, the more stress will be put on the glass when it is dropped. Corning’s latest generation Gorilla Glass Victus 2 focuses more on drop resistance. The company has adopted a new glass composition which will potentially save devices from accidental drops on rough surfaces. Asphalt can leave the screen scratched up while concrete in the worst cases can shatter the display glass.
Corning says that the drop performance of the Victus 2 has improved by up to 1m on 80-grit and up to 2m on 180-grit. In lab tests, the latest-generation glass is seen withstanding one-meter (hip height) drops on concrete whereas it survived two meters (head height) drops on an asphalt surface. Victus 2 also ensures 2x scratch resistance than previous versions and 4x better scratch performance compared to its competitors.
In a statement, Corning said “today’s smartphones are nearly 15% heavier, and screen sizes are up to 10% larger, than they were four years ago – increasing both the stress on the cover glass and the probability of damage. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 redefines tough for consumers and OEMs”.
The new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, Notebook PCs, cameras, and more devices. Smartphones boasting the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 are expected to hit the markets in the coming months. Although there is no word on which would be the first device to adorn the latest generation glass, we assume it to be Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series.
Back in September, Google had officially announced that it is ending its support for the Stadia platform. The cloud gaming technology had faced many challenges and issues, and now, the company is gearing up to offer refunds to its buyers.
The Search Engine giant had stated on September 30 that it will be ending Stadia and will even be reimbursing all Stadia users who purchased games or hardware from Google. The company said that Stadia hardware purchases made from the company’s Store as well as any Stadia Store games or add on content bought will be eligible for the refunds. So one can expect that the brand is spending a lot of money to reimburse a lot of money.
For those unaware, the company began offering software refunds at the beginning of last month and now it appears that Google will now settle up on the hardware side as well. The brand will initiate the refunds by sending out emails to its customers informing them that the refunds will be issued in the next couple of weeks. The users who purchased their hardware directly from official company store will get their money back first within the next two weeks.
As of right now, the company is offering refunds on the Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, Play and watch Google TV packages, and even the Stadia controllers as well. The Stadia users will be be able to continue playing on the platform until the date of 18th of January 2023, which is when the platform will be officially shut down.
Two Lenovo K-series phones have been spotted on the Google Play Console listing. The devices are the Lenovo K14 and K14 Note. For those unaware, the brand’s K-series phones are aimed at select low-end markets. Additionally, they are also rebadged versions of the Motorola phones. The Lenovo K14 and K14 Note could possibly join the K14 Plus that was launched in March this year. They are also expected to arrive as the successors to the last year’s K13 and K13 Note.
The Google Play Console listings of the Lenovo K14 and K14 Note reveal key specifications as well as the front render of the devices. Starting with the regular variant, it has a waterdrop notch and a thick bottom bezel. The screen offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1,600 pixels and 280 ppi pixel density. The listing reveals that the device will be equipped with a Spreadtrum T606 chipset based on a 12nm process. It comprises two Cortex A75 cores at 1.6GHz and six Cortex A55 cores at 1.6GHz. The SoC is coupled with Mali G57 GPU. As per the listing, the device packs 2GB RAM and runs on Android 11 OS out of the box.
On the other hand, the Lenovo K14 Note is seen with a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout. The display is said to offer an FHD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels and a pixel density of 420 ppi. The listing mentions a MediaTek MT6769 processor under the hood. This could either be the Helio G80 or G85 chipset. The phone will come with 4GB RAM onboard and ship with Android 11 OS.
As per the specifications in the listing, we assume the Lenovo K14 to be a budget device whereas the K14 Note could be a mid-range offering.
Motorola has confirmed to launch the Moto X40 (Motorola Edge 40 Pro) in December in China. The company has been teasing the features of this smartphone for quite a while now. At the same time, the details about the device are also emerging from other sources.
For instance, the phone has now leaked in renders revealing its entire design. Let’s take a look at everything that’s known about it.
We already know what the upcoming Moto X40 will look like. That’s because its design had been already leaked via a TENAA listing. The latest leak from @OnLeaks (via MySmartPrice) confirms the design again.
As per the renders, the handset will sport a curved display. It will house a rectangular camera island with sensor placements somewhat similar to that of iPhone Pro models.

In May, Vivo unveiled the Vivo S15 series of smartphones in China. Recent reports have claimed that the company is preparing the S16 series for the home market. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station, reveals that the S16 series will launch by the end of this month.
Apart from claiming that the Vivo S16 series will launch by December-end in China, the tipster also shared key details about the S16 Pro. He revealed that the phone will have an OLED display with support for a high refresh rate, a Dimensity 8200 chipset, and 80W charging.

The S16 is likely to come in black, blue, and purple, whereas the S16 Pro may arrive in black, green, and orange gold. The S16-series is also rumored to include Exynos 1080-powered Vivo S16e.

Earlier this week, Apple updated its list of vintage and obsolete products list. The company has added some older models from its iMacs lineup and even one of its Apple Watch model from a couple of years ago on this list.
Looking at the new list, the Cupertino based giant has officially labeled the iMac models from the year 2013 and 2014 on to the obsolete list. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 2 has been added to the Vintage list. For those unaware, these same iMacs were on the Vintage list before being moved to the Obsolete list. When a device is added to the latter, they are finally no longer eligible for official repairs from the brand. So those that have purchased Macs from the late 2013, which is the 21.5 inch iMacs, the 2014 21.5 inch iMac, and the 2014 27 inch Retina 5K iMac, have to look for unofficial repairs if they face any issues.
The company typically adds products to the obsolete list around 7 years after its first sale and discontinues for obsolete products. On the other hand, the Apple Watch Series 2 are now on the vintage list. This vintage products list features devices that went on sale around 5 years since its launch but less than 7 years from its announcement. These products are still officially serviceable, however, the repairs would still depend upon the availability of the specific parts for your vintage device.
