Sony PlayStation 5 to go on pre-orders again on March 24 in India

The Sony PlayStation 5 launched back in November 2020, however, it has been difficult to grab one even in 2022. This is largely due to the ongoing global chip shortage resulting in limited production. And what little stock is made available for sale is usually bought up by scalpers who in turn resell the console at huge markups.

Apple accused of holding an illegal monopoly on heart rate apps for Apple Watch

Earlier this week, a federal judge in the US said that Apple is facing a claim that states that it is illegally holding a monopoly over its heart rate monitoring apps on its Apple Watch in the United States market.

Apple

According to a Reuters report, US District Judge Jeffrey White stated that AliveCor Inc has claimed that it can prove that the Cupertino based giant has violated federal antitrust law. As per the claim, the iPhone maker allegedly has “complete control” on the market over similar apps. For those unaware, AliveCor Inc is behind the SmartRythm app that alerts the users to irregular heartbeats.

The judge added that “AliveCor alleges that Apple made changes to the heart rate algorithm that made it effectively impossible for third parties to inform a user when to take an ECG. Plaintiff’s allegations plausibly establish that Apple’s conduct was anticompetitive.” At the same time, Judge White also dismissed a separate claim for AliveCor, which claimed that Apple maintained an illegal monopoly over its ECG enabled smartwatches. Unfortunately, Apple has yet to provide any comments regarding this matter. Although, this isn’t the first time AliveCor has filed a complaint against the brand.

apple-watch-series-7-featured

Back in 2020, the company had accused Apple for infringing on its patents based on its ECG features. In 2021, it also claimed that AliveCor was accused of changing the heart rate algorithm, which gave its proprietary system an “unfair competitive edge” over its competitors or possibly even putting “countless AliveCor users’ lives in danger” since they rely on their systems to offer them alerts. However, the American brand had countered this claim by saying that it was an “uncontroversial proposition that product improvement by itself” and did not violate the federal Sherman antitrust law.

OPPO Find X5 Pro can now be placed on chest to measure heart rate

OPPO announced the OPPO Find X5 Pro globally ahead of MWC 2022. It is the latest flagship smartphone from the company and the successor of last year’s OPPO Find X3 Pro. Almost a month after its debut, the company introduces an interesting feature.

Find X5 Pro Review 15
OPPO Find X5 Pro (Review)

The OPPO Find X5 Pro can be now used to measure heart rate in China. The phone does not use an optical fingerprint-heart rate combo sensor like the Xiaomi Mi 11 and the realme GT2 Pro

Instead, it relies on an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor, which is capable of measuring triaxial acceleration and triaxial angular velocity. OPPO is the world’s first smartphone manufacturer to measure heart rate using an IMU sensor, which consists of an accelerometer and a gyroscope.

In order to measure heart rate using their OPPO Find X5 Pro, users need to open the OPPO Health app (v3.13 or above), navigate to Heart Rate > Phone Heart Rate Measurement, and place the handset on their chest. Alternately, users can ask OPPO Xiaobu (Breeno) virtual assistant “measure heart rate” to access the feature quickly.

The heart rate data will be displayed on the screen within 12-15 seconds. The result will be based on the vibration reading through the IMU sensor and OPPO Health algorithm processing.

We are not sure how accurate the readings are. Either way, it is not recommended to rely on this feature for medical use. The same can be said for every fitness-focused wearable available in the market. Only consider them as a tool to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle.

The POCO X4 Pro 5G will be launching in India on March 28. The virtual event will be live-streamed on the brand’s official YouTube channel from 12 PM IST. We also expect live tweets from the company’s official Twitter account.

As far as the device is concerned, we know everything about it since it is not only already official but also on sale in multiple regions for weeks. In some markets, it also comes with a free YouTube Premium subscription. We are not sure if this offer will be available in India.

But we are somewhat certain that the phone will lack NFC in the country. Further, going by the image tweeted by the brand, the handset will arrive with a 64MP main camera instead of a 108MP sensor like the original model.

The POCO X4 Pro 5G is a rebranded Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G with a tweaked design and a cheaper price tag. Hence, it has the exact same set of features.

The smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC, liquid cooling technology, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, 108MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera system, 16MP selfie camera, dual stereo speakers, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP53 rating, MIUI 13 based on Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 67W fast charging.

As the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (Remi Note 11 Pro 5G) starts at ₹20,999 in India, the POCO X4 Pro 5G will likely cost ₹19,999 or lower.

BYD announces first overseas sales of its DM-i based EVs, 500 units shipped to Colombia

Earlier this month, BYD distributor Motorysa held an event in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. Here, it was announced that the company has just shipped its first 500 units of its Qin PLUS DM-i and Song PLUS DM-i models in the country, which marks the first ever order for its DM-i models outside of China.

For those unaware, the Chinese automobile maker had entered the Colobian passenger car market back in 2019. Since then, the brand has delivered thousands of electric passenger cars to Bogota, Medellin and other cities as well. Motorysa stated that these two new models arrive with a trendy and futuristic exterior design and are equipped with BYD’s latest DM-i hybrid platform, which means it combines stylish design with powerful performance.

Motorysa further added the new electric vehicles will also help promote the development of the nation’s new energy vehicle industry. Just last year, BYD had received orders for more than 1,550 electric powered buses from the country. Notably, this accounted for 96.5 percent of the region’s electric bus market and 99 percent of the capital Bogota’s electric bus market as well. The Chinese brand had also stated last year that it will deliver more than 1,000 plug in hybrid models in Colombia, with the company already securing dealers in several cities in the country.

CD Projekt Red officially announces development of new Witcher game

CD Projekt Red has just announced that it has began development of a new game within its popular Witcher series. The company’s last Witcher game was released back in 2015 and saw great success.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the last entry in the series, which is based on a Polish series of fantasy novels. While the first two titles also saw decent sales, this title basically thrusted the series into mainstream popularity. Notably, there is even a critically acclaimed Netflix series based on the same setting and name. Now, the studio has announced that it is working on the new game with a multi year partnership with Epic Games. This will have CD Projekt Red built a new Witcher game on the Unreal Engine 5 game engine.

For those unaware, the studio has been using its proprietary REDengine technology for its games. But with the partnership, CD Projekt Red will have access to tailor made tools and assistance from Epic Games for the latest generation of Unreal Engine. This REDengine had even powered the infamous Cyberpunk 2077 as well. The company added that this engine will continue to power 2077, with the Witcher 3 also receiving a new gen console upgrade later this year.

Witcher

While the studio hasn’t shared any finer details at the moment, CD Projekt Red CTO Paweł Zawodny stated that “One of the core aspects of our internal RED 2.0 Transformation is a much stronger focus on technology, and our cooperation with Epic Games is based on this principle. From the outset, we did not consider a typical licensing arrangement; both we and Epic see this as a long-term, fulfilling tech partnership. It is vital for CD PROJEKT RED to have the technical direction of our next game decided from the earliest possible phase as; in the past, we spent a lot of resources and energy to evolve and adapt REDengine with every subsequent game release.”
